Rush 2013 Clockwork Angels tour Red Deer benefit concert open thread

Wed, Jul 24, 2013@11:41AM | comments removed/disabled

UPDATE - 8/1@10:12AM: Rush posted a thank you message yesterday announcing that the show had raised $575,000!!

THANK YOU to EVERYONE who supported the benefit show at the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer last week! As well as a special thanks to our partners for this concert – Live Nation Canada, Ticketmaster, and the Enmax Centrium venue who generously donated time, goods and services so that we could raise the most amount of money possible for this worthy cause.

We are happy to announce the final amount is $575,000 and it will all be donated for Alberta Flood Relief!

“It is important to be a good neighbour in situations like these, and we are very grateful that we were able to amass such a huge sum that will undoubtedly help many of our fellow Canadians in need. Thanks to our partners who joined us in the effort, to all the great fans from all over Alberta who attended the show, the workers who donated their time along with us, and those fans abroad that supported via the special Flood T-shirt.” – Geddy Lee

The proceeds from the July 24th concert will see $125,000 specifically go to the citizens of High River who were hit the hardest in the floods, $400,000 going to the Canadian Red Cross to support Alberta Flood Relief, and the remaining $50,000 to local charities. ...

UPDATE - 7/25@5:39PM: Here's a great review from the Red Deer Advocate (thanks hannuFIN).

UPDATE - 7/25@1:34PM: Here's a short, CTV news clip that features interview snippets with a couple of regular RIAB readers along with 30 seconds or so of concert footage.

UPDATE - 7/25@9:44AM: Reader clockwork-fan confirms that the full Night A - version 4 setlist was played.

UPDATE - 7/25@7:38AM: I still haven't received any setlist information at this point, so if you went to the show please let us know what set was played. We do know that the show got a late start because of some unknown technical difficulties and the band didn't hit the stage until around 9PM. This review from the Calgary Herald mentions the delay but also says the band only played a 2-hour set with intermission. I doubt they'd play a shorter set but still include the intermission, so this is likely an error or typo. Official photos from the show are already posted at Rush.com.

Rush will kick off the final leg of their Clockwork Angels tour tonight with a benefit show at the Enmax Centrium in Red Deer, Alberta. The band was originally scheduled to play the Calgary Saddledome, but due to severe flooding damage suffered by the venue last month they were forced to cancel the show. In their typical classy fashion, rather than just simply reschedule the show, the band decided to perform a separate show nearby on the same date in Red Deer, Alberta with all proceeds going to the Alberta Flood Relief effort. The band has also created a special t-shirt design just for the Red Deer Benefit Concert with all proceeds from sales of the t-shirts also going to the Alberta Flood Relief effort. So if you aren't able to attend the show but would still like to help out, you can purchase one of the t-shirts via the Rush Backstage Club, or at Long & McQuade music stores throughout Edmonton and Calgary. The band is due to play one of their Night A sets for the Red Deer crowd. I'll post confirmation of this as soon as I learn about it. For everyone going to the show tonight, have fun, stay safe, and be sure to share your photos, videos and reports with us. RUUSSSHHHH!!!!!
