Rush Q107 interview details

Tue, Apr 17, 2007@4:14PM | comments removed/disabled

UPDATE - 4/19@9:33AM: Reader Shane T emailed Jeff Woods and obtained the following information regarding the interview. At least one (possibly more) teaser interview clip, featuring Geddy, Alex and Neil, will be released this Friday, April 20th. He also said that the following radio station homepages will have the local airdates and airtimes of the special when it's released: q107.com, q107fm.ca , y108.ca, thehawk.ca, rock101.com.

This past Saturday I mentioned that Jeff Woods of Toronto's Q107 would be interviewing all 3 members of Rush this week and was taking suggestions from fans for what questions to ask. He spoke with Alex and Geddy yesterday and Neil today, and updated his original blog post with these words and ... answers to many of the questions! (see below):

UPDATE Tues April 17 2:48pm
I had an hour with Neil today. First time ever. With few exceptions (Bowie, Steven Tyler, Ray Manzarek), rarely have I met someone so passionately and articulately expressive.
With thanks to Neil, Geddy & Alex - I'm going to bring you a fantastic Rush premiere on the radio, with lots of 'extras' online thereafter. Here's the challenge - the radio show is 90 minutes and not even including music I have 90 minutes of the guys in conversation! That, and there's 8 or 9 (of 13) songs that I feel like I have to play! Fans will be able to hear 'em all, regardless, when the album comes Tues May 1.

UPDATE! Monday Aprill 16 1:25pm.
Alex and Geddy were just in my office and have answered a bunch of questions .... I have posted some of the answers with more to come. They got to most of them but had to run to another interview (sorry if I made you late guys - great to see you). I'm saving some for Neil with whom I'll speak later this week.

Thanks to everyone around the globe for particpating! I'll post the run-dates and times of all the radio special Rush Snakes and Arrows World Album Premiere soon here on the blog too.

What I think is really cool is that he individually addressed nearly all the comments/questions people left him and posed as many as he could to the band in the interview. View the comments on his blog post to see some of the answers. Here are some samples (I truncated a few of the longer questions). But you will definitely want to read all the answers yourself:

Q: Just wondering which song EACH member feels is the highlight of the album and what new ground each member has attained while recording Snakes and Arrows.
Alex - Working them Angels
Geddy - Larger Bowl

Q: I would ask them if they're considering some dates in this side of the world, specifically Brazil, Argentina and/or Chile, my homeland.
Alex & Geddy say - Trying, hopefully in '08

Q: I'd love to know if the band would consider playing an "unplugged" type of show where the fans could get more accoustical interpretations of their songs, ala 'Resist' and 'Heart Full of Soul' as they did on the R30 tour.
Geddy says: How does that one go? Kidding, actually yes, and Alex says: I'd watch.

Q: Not to make you guys feel old, but what keeps the creative juices flowing after all these years?
Geddy and Alex agree: It's meat.

Q: Will there be a possibility that Geddy,Alex and Neil will record the old song from 1974: Garden Road.
Alex and Geddy say: No, sorry, and cool (the Rotterdam bit).

Q: What other bands have Alex and Geddy been listening to these last couple of years? Any movies they've particularly enjoyed?
Geddy says: The lives of others - best movie of the last year.
Alex says: I love Porcupine Tree and Mars Volta ... and of course PussyCat Dolls (smiles).

Q: For Alex, not sure if this was true or not, but apparently this past summer you were taking part in a guitar camp or something of the sort here in Toronto, I'm just wondering if you would be doing something like that again.
Alex says: Yes I did and would consider doing it again.

Q: I just want to let the band know the many of us fans feel that they overlook GREAT songs ... is there any chance for us rush nuts out there to hear some more obscure rush songs or revamp the show on this tour?
Alex and Geddy haven't confirmed the set list but do acknowledge there's a chance you'll hear a song you've hoped for.
editorial: ghost of a chance that is ....

Q: ... do [Rush] plan on ever coming back to Atlantic Canada? It has been 20 years since they have played a show here.
Alex and Geddy say: We'll try to get back before the end of this tour and will try to cover off as many Cdn cities we haven't scheduled yet ... will be another leg in '08!

Q: How much of Snakes and Arrows will be appearing in the upcoming tour setlist?
Geddy says: hopefully at least 7 or 8 songs.

Q: Hearing far cry, it seems Nick R has really meshed well with you guys and made you churn out some of the best stuff in a long time. How much say/suggestions do producers have on the live tour portion of your work?
Geddy says: He's trying to, but so far no.

Q: Will "Circumstances" be on the tour setlist?
Gedd says: Maybe.

Yes... that was just a small sampling - read the comments on his post yourself to get the full scoop. So Jeff hints that Ghost of a Chance will be played this tour along with 7 or 8 songs from S&A and ... maybe Circumstances! We also learn that they plan on doing another leg of the tour in 2008, possibly including South American dates ... and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I can't wait for the full interview to air. Thanks to jon l (who had his question answered too by the way) for the heads up.
