The Trailer Park Boys movie: soundtrack tracklist and a cameo from Officer Alex Lifeson

The Trailer Park Boys movie news just keeps pouring in. In a ChartAttack.com article from earlier today the soundtrack tracklist is revealed (as are some other interesting details) and an air date of September 18th is given for the first video/single (previous reports had been saying September 12th). From the article:

...The Soundtrack will be released by Anthem Records on October 3. The first single/video, a cover of the Bobby Fuller Four's "I Fought The Law" performed by The Big Dirty Band, will first air on September 18.

The Big Dirty Band are comprised of Rush's Geddy Lee (bass) and Alex Lifeson (guitar), Thornley's Ian Thornley (vocals and guitar), Three Days Grace's Adam Gontier (vocals), Die Mannequin's Care Failure (vocals) and former Tea Party drummer Jeff Burrows. The video for the song — featuring the TPB characters of Ricky (Robb Wells), Bubbles (Mike Smith) and Julian (John Paul Tremblay) on the streets of Toronto — was directed by Juno Award winner Andrew McNaughton.

The soundtrack also features a performance of "Liquor & Whores" by Bubbles & The Shit Rockers, who include Lifeson and Blackie & The Rodeo Kings member and solo artist Tom Wilson.

Alexisonfire cover Black Sabbath's "Sweet Leaf," TPB character J-Roc (Jonathan Torrens) performs "Trailer Park Life," and the all-Canadian album also features songs from Rush, Rough Trade, April Wine, The Tragically Hip, Wintersleep and Swollen Members. Commentaries from Ricky, Bubbles and Julian are interspersed between tracks.

Former Headstones frontman Hugh Dillon appears in the movie as a new character called Sonny. The film, written and directed by Mike Clattenburg, is expected in theatres next month. You can read more about Trailer Park Boys — The Movie in the upcoming October issue of Chart.

Here are the tracks on Trailer Park Boys — The Soundtrack:

* Big Dirty Drums
* The Big Dirty Band — "I Fought The Law"
* Rush — "The Spirit Of Radio"
* J-Roc — "Trailer Park Life"
* Credulence
* Alexisonfire — "Sweet Leaf"
* Rough Trade — "All Touch"
* Shithawks
* April Wine — "I'm On Fire For You Baby"
* The Tragically Hip — "Bobcaygeon"
* Wintersleep — "Orca"
* Swollen Members — "Swamp Water"
* Ricky's Day In Court
* Bubbles & The Shit Rockers — "Liquor & Whores"

So it's still unclear to me whether the Big Dirty Band's I Fought the Law will be released as a CD single or not. It sounds to me like it will not - and just the video for the song will be released prior to the soundtrack. I had heard that the single was to be released tomorrow, but I couldn't find any evidence of this at all online or anywhere else. This was also the first I'd heard that Rush friend and photographer Andrew McNaughton directed the video, and that Alex Lifeson performed on Bubbles' Liquor and Whores track as part of his Shit Rockers band. :)

In addition to this great information, the film has begun to be screened here and there. Reports are starting to filter in. This one from Counterparts board member Three Eyes is particlularly interesting:

Last week I saw a test screening of the TPB movie with Richard Carter here at the Burbank AMC. It was great! Alex has a cameo as a cop and there is a snippet of A Passage to Bangkok as Trevor and Cory drive up on a snowmobile with wheels.

No spoilers here but I will say the movie uses stuff from the series that many of us are already familiar with presumably to introduce the characters to a new, wider audience. This has me thinking it will see an American release. Just the fact that they screened it in the U.S. is a good sign. Then again if the film tests poorly here it might only get rolled out in Canada.

So Alex gets a cameo as ... a cop!?! How absolutely perfect. :)
