UPDATE - 4/24@11:57AM: I'm now hearing that they'll do the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on June 25th prior to the tour rather than August 10th before the LA show.

UPDATE - 4/23@3:58PM: Here are 2 photos (here and here) from Lorne's MySpace page showing the Snakes & Arrows kit in Nashville during their recent recording sessions (thanks hermy).

UPDATE - 4/23@1:39PM: Here's yet another telling MySpace status update from Neil Peart drum tech Lorne Wheaton (thanks hermy):

I think we all figured Neil would have a new kit for the tour but it's nice to finally get some confirmation. Cool!

The Rush Time Machine Tour pre-sale frenzy continued this past week. On Sunday night Rush announced second shows at both Red Rocks and Chicago along with all the Music Today fan pre-sales for the week. Then on Wednesday we learned that Rush would be playing the Ottawa Bluesfest on July 11th. A total of 14 shows began various pre-sales this past Tuesday - most of which have now ended. General ticket sales for 4 of these - both Toronto shows, the Omaha show and the Kansas City show - began this morning with the remaining 10 dates along with Ottawa going on sale tomorrow (Pittsburgh on Monday). Pre-sale information for next week will likely be announced over the weekend for the following dates that are slated to go on sale next weekend:

Jul 15: Quebec City Summer Festival - Quebec City, QC
Aug 14: MGM Grand Garden Arena - Las Vegas, NV
Sep 14: TD Garden - Boston, MA
Sep 18: Jiffy Lube Live - Bristow, VA
Sep 25: Woodlands Pavilion - The Woodlands, TX
Sep 29: Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre - Alpharetta, GA
Oct 01: Ford Amphitheatre - Tampa, FL
Oct 02: Cruzan Amphitheatre - West Palm Beach, FL

Stay tuned to the tour page for the latest updates, pre-sale times and passwords. I've also added a nifty interactive tour map to the page along with a Rush ticket sales and pre-sales guide. The guide explains how all the various and sundry pre-sales work along with some other miscellaneous information. You can even post comments to the guide if you have any information you'd like to add or elaborate on.

The long-anticipated Rush documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage will have its US and world premier tomorrow at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City while the Canadian premiere will occur at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto next Thursday, April 29th. The official trailer for the film was posted online earlier today and you can check it out at this link, along with these 2 preview clips that had been posted online a couple weeks ago. Earlier this week we learned that the documentary will get its television premiere on VH1 and VH1 Classic on June 26th, just a few days before the start of Rush's Time Machine Tour. Katy Rich of Cinema Blend posted the first review of the film yesterday at this link. For any RIABers who are attending the premiere tomorrow, reader ReGorLaTroy wanted me to let everyone know that there will be a pre-screening meet-up at The Molly Wee which is located at 30th and 8th.

Speaking of the Rush documentary, filmmakers Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen won a Juno Award for Music DVD of the Year this past weekend for their film Iron Maiden: Flight 666, beating out Rush's Snakes & Arrows Live DVD. Sam Dunn had expected Rush to win and even dressed for the occasion. From a Spinner.com article covering the event:

... "I wore my Rush 'Caress of Steel' shirt because I thought Rush were going to win," Dunn said backstage after their win, noting the duo's next documentary is the upcoming Rush film 'Beyond the Lighted Stage.' ...

Thanks to RushFanForever for the heads up.

Whereas Rush's Snakes & Arrows Live DVD did not win a Juno, Home Theater Magazine's May 2010 issue did list the blu-ray version among their Top 100 Blu-Rays and gave it a great little review. Thanks to Reed Lover for the heads up and the scan.

A new interview with Geddy Lee conducted by Rolling Stone's Greg Prato was released online earlier this week. Geddy talks about the upcoming tour, the new material they've been working on, and the Moving Pictures album. He even reveals the title of one of their new songs; Caravan. Check out this post for all the details.

Eagle Rock Entertainment is the creator of a series of Classic Albums documentary specials where important albums in rock -n- roll history are showcased. A Classic Albums treatment of both Rush's 2112 and Moving Pictures has been in production for quite some time now and on Sunday we learned via BW&BK that a combined DVD/Blu-ray release covering both albums is due for release this September. Reader RushFanForever also let me know that the DVD apparently was previewed at Full Metal Texas 2010 last month.

Nearly 2 years ago we learned that Rush would be awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Since then we've been awaiting word on when the ceremony would take place, with the assumption that it would occur the next time the band played a show in Los Angeles. Although it's not official yet, from what I'm now hearing that's exactly what is going to happen that they'll do the Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on June 25th just prior to the start of the tour rather than August 10th before the LA show. Apparently the ceremony will take place on August 10th the day before the band's show at the Gibson Amphitheatre this summer.

Geddy Lee is scheduled to appear on the syndicated Mark and Brian show on KLOS out of Los Angeles this coming Monday morning (thanks Huge Ackman at Counterparts). And both Geddy and Alex will be on Q104.3's Out of the Box with Jonathan Clarke this Sunday night (thanks Pmover at Counterparts). This probably means that Geddy and Alex will likely be making the radio interview rounds next week, so keep your ears open for other interviews too.

Used Bin Radio is a weekly internet radio talk show geared towards Classic, Modern and Progressive Rock. Hosts Joe and Brad are longtime Rush fans as well as RIAB readers and the subject of Rush often comes up on their show. I've been a guest on their show a couple of times now and will be making a return appearance on the show this coming Tuesday to talk Rush with the guys. If you want to know what Joe and Brad think of me listen to this past week's show at about the 15-minute mark. :) The show airs live on Tuesday nights from 8-10PM PST (11-1 EST) and you can listen live to the program on purerockradio.net. It is also syndicated on progrock.com and redeyeradionetwork.com. Past shows can be listened to via podcast at this link. Listen in if you get a chance - I'll post another reminder next Tuesday.

Details regarding both RushCon 10 and Rush RatCon 2010 were released earlier this week. RushCon 10 - billed as RushCon/Force/10 - will take place this July 16-18 in Toronto, ON along with a one-day minicon to occur on August 14th in Las Vegas. Both the main convention and the minicon will coincide with Rush shows in each respective city. For all the details check out the RushCon website and you can follow RushCon on Facebook too. The 2nd annual RatCon East Coast Rush gathering/convention - billed as The Astral Door to the Time Machine Tour - will take place the weekend of June 25th at Club Xanadu (The Shred's House) in beautiful Severna Park, MD (outside Baltimore). Events will include an ON-SITE 3-hour concert from Rush tribute band Cygnals on Friday night, an outdoor big-screen viewing of VH1's television premiere of Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage on Saturday night and - interspersed throughout - a lot of great Rush-themed food, beverage, games, prizes, conversation and loads of Rush music! You can check out all the details and learn about the origin of the Rush Rat and RatCon at the website here. You can also follow RatCon on Facebook. And to see how much fun we all had at RatCon 2009 last year go to the RatCon 2009 tab on the RatCon site and check out all the pictures.

Rush's Tom Sawyer was played on the latest episode of Fox TV's Fringe (Season 2, Episode 39) last night. It was playing on a car radio in the opening scene of the show. You can watch the full episode online at this link. Thanks to chicodawg and RUSHnATL for the heads up.

Reader Dylan pointed me to this teaser trailer for the new movie High School which uses the intro to Rush's 2112 as background music.

Reader RushFanForever located this old SPIN interview with Neil Peart from 1992. You can check it out at this link.

Reader, Rush fan, and composer/performer Ben Sommer recently created a music discovery podcast and blog called Bands Like Rush where bands that have some kind of connection or similarity to Rush are interviewed. His latest installment is a humorous pseudo interview with Gino of now defunct prog-rock band Electrum. You can check it out at this link.

Commercials for Rush's Time Machine Tour have been running in a couple of cities over the last couple of weeks. Reader Rob S located the commercial on YouTube and you can check it out below.

That's it for this week. Have a great weekend!
