Rush Fifty Something tour LA show #2 open thread

Tue, Jun 9, 2026@2:25AM | comments

UPDATE - 6/10@12:46PM: There's another setlist photo from Alex's guitar tech's console making the rounds that shows essentially ALL the tracks from the 1st 2 shows, plus another 5 that they haven't played yet. If you want to be spoiled, click on the thumbnail and check out what those 5 songs are.

UPDATE - 6/10@9:32AM: Some videos from last night's show:

2112:

Anthem:

Closer to the Heart:

Witch Hunt:

The Trees:

Full Second Set and Encore:

UPDATE - 6/10@1:52AM: That's a wrap on show #2! Some highlights included the return of Aimee Mann on Time Stand Still (looks like she'll be at all the LA shows), the FULL 2112 suite, and they played these TEN new songs not included in Sunday's show - nearly half the entire show:

The Analog Kid
Leave That Thing Alone
The Trees
Headlong Flight
Animate
Closer to the Heart
A Passage to Bangkok
Anthem
Witch Hunt
Finding My Way

This means that - of the 38-ish songs they rehearsed - they have now played 32 of them. So there still remain about 6 songs that haven't been heard yet, and which we should be hearing over the next 2 LA shows. Check out the show's full setlist here. Good night!

UPDATE - 6/10@1:09AM: They are at the Neil Peart tribute portion of the 2nd set and ONCE AGAIN brought out Aimee Mann for Time Stand Still. The set still opened with 2112 but it was the entire song (!!) instead of the truncated version, and they included 3 additional songs not played on Sunday; Animate, Closer to the Heart, and A Passage to Bangkok. Follow along with the setlist here.

UPDATE - 6/10@12:48AM: Wow. So they still opened with 2112 ... but not just the truncated version, they played the WHOLE DAMN THING! Follow along with the setlist here.

UPDATE - 6/10@12:31AM: 2nd set is underway and they are opening with 2112 again, which likely means this will be a staple of each performance.

UPDATE - 6/10@12:05AM: It's intermission time! The 2nd half of the 1st set featured THREE tracks not played on Sunday - Leave That Thing Alone, The Trees and Headlong Flight. They closed out the set with Limelight - swapping places with The Spirit of Radio. Follow along with the setlist here.

Set 1:

Intro video (Xanadudes)

1) Xanadu
2) The Spirit of Radio (Band Introductions)
3) The Analog Kid
4) Freewill
5) Subdivisions
6) Bravado (Neil tribute 1 - Neil video lead in with voiceover)
7) Leave That Thing Alone
8) The Trees
9) Headlong Flight
10) Limelight

----- snip -----

UPDATE - 6/9@11:35PM: The first set is half way over, and they are at the point for the 1st Neil Peart tribute song, which was - once again - Bravado. So far they've added just one new song (The Analog Kid) and switched up the order of some others, but the Xanadu opener remains. Follow along with the setlist here.

UPDATE - 6/9@11:13PM: They are already shaking things up a little, and played The Spirit of Radio in the slot where they played Limelight on Sunday. Guessing that these 2 tracks are just switching places.

UPDATE - 6/9@10:56PM: The show is underway and Xanadu is still the opener, which means that likely will be a staple of the performance every night. Limelight is next, and that's unlikely to change as well. But Far Cry is likely one of the tracks they'll be swapping out for something new. Enjoy!

UPDATE - 6/9@10:46PM: The show will be starting any minute now.... Here's a side stage photo.

UPDATE - 6/9@6:01PM: Rick Beato just dropped his 20-minute interview with Anika Nilles that he conducted in Toronto around the same time as Ged and Al's interview (thanks Brian E):

Rush fans across the globe are still trying to digest all the details from Sunday's unforgettable opening night show, but this is just the beginning - 1 show down, 87 left to go! Rush has 3 more shows to play at The Forum over the next week, starting tonight, and they should essentially follow the same format as the opener except with a significantly different setlist. Rush revealed in several interviews that they'd been rehearsing around 38 songs for the tour, and they played 22 of those on Sunday night, leaving another 16 left to hear. Their plan is to try and rotate in their entire 38-song repertoire over a 4-night stint (or thereabouts), which means we should be hearing 5 or 6 new songs at tonight's show. It'll be interesting to see which songs get swapped out and which remain, outside the obvious of course; meaning Tom Sawyer, The Spirit of Radio, Limelight, Working Man, and other standards will always be in there, but maybe not By-tor, Vital Signs, etc. Speaking of which, Anika Nilles posted a photo of herself examining the setlist post-show to Instagram yesterday, and the list is readable if you zoom in, revealing that Anthem was also an option for the slot where they played Vital Signs. It looks like the band will be dedicating one song per set to Neil Peart, where they play a tribute video with a Neil Peart voiceover prior. And on Sunday night those 2 songs were Bravado in the first set, and Time Stand Still in the 2nd. It remains to be seen whether these will be swapped out, or if they'll remain a fixed part of each show. For that Time Stand Still performance, the band gave fans a special treat, bringing out Aimee Mann to sing backing vocals on the track she was featured on over 40 years ago (and appeared in the iconic music video). Aimee is based in LA, so it's likely this was just a one-off special appearance for opening night, but it's certainly possible she'll be on hand for tonight's and/or the rest of the LA shows. I'm also guessing the set openers and closers will stay in - so Xanadu and The Spirit of Radio will probably continue to bookend the 1st set, with 2112 opening set 2 and Tom Sawyer closing out the main performance. I also think they'll keep Working Man as the encore closer, but might shake things up and swap out By-tor. We shall see. I'll keep the setlist updated throughout the evening, as well as the RIAB social media channels. For everyone going tonight, have fun and be safe. RUSH!!!!
