Alex Lifeson was recently interviewed for the Sea of Tranquility podcast to talk about the release of Envy of None's Stygian Wavz album, Rush and more (thanks RushFanForever). Here he is talking about how Envy of None was a great conduit for him to spread his wings musically and get out of his comfort zone:
... I could just keep doing the same stuff that I've been doing for 50 years, but I want to challenge myself. I have a lot of music in me and a lot of ideas and I love approaching music from a different place. For me, I do a lot of acoustic stuff ... but I'm really playing a lot of acoustic now and I really incorporate a lot of acoustic stuff in Envy of None. And that's juxtaposed to some heavy guitars and jangly guitars and and I just love the contrast of all those things and how they develop and how they serve the song. And that's really what it comes down to; it's all about servicing the song ...
