Neil Peart's Slingerland drum kit to be on display at Lakeside Park

Neil Peart's original Chromey Slingerland drum kit (which he used from Fly By Night through 2112) will be on display this weekend at RushCon in Toronto. The kit will also make an appearance at Lakeside Park in Port Dalhousie on July 22nd from 1-11PM and July 24th from noon to 10PM. Fans can visit the park that was immortalized in the Rush song Lakeside Park and have their photos taken with the kit and even play the kit to raise money for the Friends of the Carousel. Here's a bit of history regarding the kit from the St. Catherines Standard:

... The kit was initially purchased by Peart in 1974 for a U.S.-Canada tour. Aside from All the World's a Stage (where the drums also appear on the album cover), the Chromey was used in the recording of three other Rush albums: Fly By Night, Caress of Steel and 2112 and went on five consecutive North American tours between 1974-77.

The kit was retired in 1977, and remained in storage for a decade until it became a prize in the July 1987 issue of Modern Drummer magazine, to be awarded to the person who performed the best drum solo, as judged by Peart himself. Mark Feldman, of New York City, was declared the winner and he kept them in storage for 22 years, until 2009.

At that point, it was put on eBay because Feldman wanted to raise funds to found a community drum school. In August 2009, [Dean] Bobisud was the high bidder at $25,100.

With the help of Michael DF Lowe, of www.neilpeartdrumsticks.com, and other experienced technical advisors, the kit was refurbished with vintage replacement equipment; it has been restored to its former original playing condition.

Bobisud now tours the kit around because he feels it belongs to the fans. He also uses the kit to raise money for charity, and it has appeared at major drum shows in Chicago and Indianapolis, and will be at RushCon this weekend....

Thanks to Blabbermouth for the heads up.
