Tour date announcement March 26th, pre-sale info March 27th
Posted at 09:51 AM | comments (144)

UPDATE - 3/23@1:26PM: Now these ones are new. ;) Irvine, CA at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on July 25th with tickets on sale April 14th. I'm also hearing that they'll play in Mountanview, CA at the Shoreline Amphitheater around the same time - but no firm date yet. More as I get them ...

UPDATE - 3/23@1:08PM: I'm confusing myself here... already had those Florida dates up. :) Move along ... nothing to see here.

UPDATE - 3/23@12:49PM: Florida dates! West Palm Beach, FL at the Sound Advice Amphitheater on June 15th and Tampa Bay, FL at the Ford Amphitheatre on June 16th. Here's this link with details. Thanks Sean!

UPDATE - 3/23@10:01AM: Thanks to Power Windows's contacts at Anthem, I now know that there will be no press conference... just a press release. Sorry about the confustion. My source probably just misheard or misinterpreted the info. The dates and pre-release info definitely seem legit though. Again- sorry.

UPDATE - 3/23@9:33AM: New date! Reader david alerted me that livenation.com is listing a date in Selma, TX at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater on August 12th.

UPDATE - 3/22@7:05PM: It looks like Wembly on the 12th is out ... since Donny Osmond already seems to be booked for that date (thanks Pete). Unless of course, he's opening for Rush (or vice versa). :) The Birmingham date is also questionable, but I'll leave it up for now. Sorry guys - these UK dates seem to be very difficult to get a handle on. Seems like I hear something different every day.

UPDATE - 3/22@3:04PM: ... And another. They seem to be rolling in at a good pace today. Reader Bruce strikes again; Tweeter Center at the Waterfront in Camden, NJ on July 6th.

UPDATE - 3/22@1:37PM: UK Dates! We've known for some time now that Rush is set to play Glasgow and Newcastle on October 3rd and 5th respectively but there's been some question as to the other UK tour stops. I've now received information that Rush will play in Manchester at the MEN Arena on October 7th; Birmingham at the NEC Arena on October 9th; and the Wembly Arena in London on October 12th.

UPDATE - 3/22@10:44AM: ... And another one from Bruce; Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Virginia Beach on June 22.

UPDATE - 3/22@10:03AM: Got another date from reader Bruce; San Diego, CA at the Coors Amphitheatre on July 30th.

If you read the updates to yesterday's post then you already know this; but I've heard from a reliable source (sorry - can't reveal who) that Rush will be making the official announcement of tour dates this coming Monday, March 26th. I've also heard that they'll announce the dates via a press conference in New York City. And no - I don't know any details beyond that. Warner Music Group, who owns Atlantic Records (Rush's US record company) is based in New York - if that means anything. Maybe they'll be announcing the dates there? I really don't care where they announce them - I just want the dates! Personally I hope I'm completely wrong on this and they instead release the dates sooner. If so, I will gladly eat my virtual hat. :)

I've also obtained information that pre-sales will begin next Tuesday, March 27th for selected cities and that musictoday.com will conduct the pre-sale similar to how it was done in 2004. This is to say that they'll email info (a url and password) out to their email list which you can signup for at Rush.net. I didn't participate in the pre-sale on the last tour, so I'm just going by what others have told me. So please share any info you have about the pre-sale in the comments.

Ed, you'll be OK if you wear a hat like Carmen Miranda...

It's looking like they'll be around Chicago near my B-day...Sept. 3rd! It's just a guess.

A press conference is pretty unusual for Rush. They didn't even do that for VT after the hiatus.

I certainly hope that doesn't mean there is something bigger to announce than just the tour (like retirement.)
#4 - Posted 3/21/07 @10:43AM by Kurt [contact]

Anybody been to Noblesville, IN...good or bad venue...looks like my travel budget is seriously lacking (kids want to hang with Cinderella in the fall takes slight precedent over my boys).
#5 - Posted 3/21/07 @10:48AM by TorontoWriter [contact]

Maybe they boys will arrive at the press conference on a barge, or flatbed truck. Maybe they'll have a shitty little ghetto-blaster to play 5 seconds of another new song. (Sorry - making fun of the Rolling Stones, not Rush.)
#6 - Posted 3/21/07 @10:53AM by Ed [contact]

If there is a press conference, I sincerely doubt that any members of Rush would be there- probably just various record company suits and/or band management.
#7 - Posted 3/21/07 @10:54AM by phall2112 [contact]

Hey Kurt.
Knoblesville, is an awesome venue. Of course i could be biased. I saw rush on the counterparts tour there 2nd row.
But it is a nice place. i would go back. but there playing closer to me in cincy.
#8 - Posted 3/21/07 @11:07AM by jediyyz [contact]

So the tour will be announced on 3/26...and pre-sales begin on 3/27?...not much time for fans to decide where and when to see the band...it could be tough on us!! I'm sure this is not the fault of Rush, but it seems some snags caused this delay?!
#9 - Posted 3/21/07 @11:12AM by Shane [contact]

Guys guys just chill wait til Monday those dates that Ed has on here are unconfirmed Dates. So everybody relax I know we are excited to hear the tour dates. As Monday rolls around we will all feel relife. I know I will I am hoping Hollywoood Bowl or Irvine Vrizon Wireless Amp. So look forward to Monday ok guys. I feel you guys of your anger and excitment.
#10 - Posted 3/21/07 @11:33AM by cygnify [contact]

I wonder if the pre-sale is for a bunch of dates at the same time - kinda makes it difficult for an individual to get good tickets to multiple shows and allows the brokers (with multiple employees) to grab up bunches of tickets for multiple shows. Gotta love "How it is"
#11 - Posted 3/21/07 @11:42AM by Shane [contact]

I never like pre-sale cause I might get screwed of not getting good seats. What ever happen to first come and first serve. That was the good ol days.
#12 - Posted 3/21/07 @11:55AM by scott c [contact]

I hope these shows are recorded and I want to be the guy who either yells out "Professor!" in a British accent or "hot stuff!!" at the end of CTTH!
#13 - Posted 3/21/07 @12:05PM by Angel [contact]

you guys in the US or Canada thing you have a rought time getting good tickets??? I'm in Lima Peru, and my only means of getting good seats is to stay up all night scouting the Ticketmaster site hoping that the good seats have not been taken by the "middlemen"... Anyway, I'm hoping on a plane in June and going to the Atlanta, WPB and Tampa shows to experience the greatest rush of my life... pun intended!
#14 - Posted 3/21/07 @12:17PM by Toronto Writer [contact]

Angel - you should look into a flight to Toronto. Seeing the boys in their hometown is a GREAT experience.
#15 - Posted 3/21/07 @12:21PM by pugscrap [contact]

I purchased tickets through the presales program for the last tour. I was very disappointed with the seats. They were issued blind, but we were assured they would be the best available. I shopped tickets through ticket master and discovered i would have been much better off to wait for the regular release. You can at least see what you are buying. It seemed to me they issued blocks of second rate seats for prerelease and saved the good one for the brokers.
#16 - Posted 3/21/07 @12:41PM by Cygnus GOB [contact]

Ed, any information that we'll be able to see the press conference via the internet, ala Genesis? Let us know if you know.
#17 - Posted 3/21/07 @12:46PM by Lamb Saag [contact]

Ahh, the good old days of camping out all night for Rush tickets in a cold dark parking lot with a throng of strangers, and after daybreak, when the ticket window opens, the crowd surges forward in a stampede like the Who concert at Riverfront Coliseum....

Been there, don't wanna go back.

Online sales; first-come, first-served; buying blind - what to do??

Personally, I believe in day-of-show walk-up sales, I have never been dissapointed the last four times I saw Rush this way.
#18 - Posted 3/21/07 @12:56PM by Shane [contact]

Vote no on pre-sales

I tried to get tixs for The Police the pre-sale to join on the thepolicetour.com you have to pay 100 bucks to join the club. That is toally lame. Same thing with U2 getting those tix is like finding neddle and a haystack.

so vote no on pre-sales
#19 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:05PM by Brian [contact]

Hmmm, whatever happens, is what happens. That's all I know. I'm going to at least 1 show no matter what, the rest, as they say, is up to god...or whoever. Currently I am more enthralled by the release of the new album, after all, it is the most important event(I believe)in the next few months. Why chew the cud on a subject that will be superfluously deliberated over, when we all know that our decisions will be made only on the day and date of "the announcement"?
B
#20 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:06PM by cygnify [contact]

I realize Anthem denied the rumor of the farewell tour - but that was likely Peg or whomever answered the phone many weeks ago.

The decision to hang it up would be between Neil, Al, Ged, and Ray - and I woulnd't be surprised if the person answering the phone at Anthem would not know (yet)

Not to get all gloomy - but, why would Rush hold a press conference? I don't buy the "sell more records" or "tickets" scenarios. Why would anyone not already planning to buy S&A and tickets give a crap that Rush is holding a press conference?

They are announcing something.
#21 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:16PM by D- [contact]

#3 ' A press conference is pretty unusual for Rush' Yup, yer right and I dont recall any from R30. But, there was one for em in Rio in which Neil wasnt a part of.

Just a dumb thought... Wouldnt it make sense for Neil & Michael to ride to NY for the conf. then up to Toronto to rehearse?

With them trying to do such a big push on 'S&A' Why wouldnt they be there?

D~
#22 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:21PM by D- [contact]

#20... I believe that SRO is only run by a few people. We know how it is in a small office, if one knows something then everyone knows everything!

So, I say we waste the day trying to figure out what they're planning without killing ourselves!

D!
#23 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:22PM by Kurt [contact]

Cygnify: not sure I would go that far...but it does seem odd. Remember mass media is dominated by PR...trust me I do it every day. Its been 5 years since they have had new material all the pre-buzz has been positive...why not make it seem big with an annoucement. I don't think it is any more than that.

#17

God you remember those days. My first show was 1985 PW tour...I waited outside the local video store who had a Tickemaster desk. I think we got there at 4:00 A.M. my dad (God Bless him) waited with me and a friend as we were first in line. Like you said though, I don't want to do that again, but it sure brought back some happy memories.
#24 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:35PM by Dan [contact]

Gang,
Don't forget that RUSH held multiple press conferences in Brazil on th VT Tour. SO this is not unprecedented.
#25 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:40PM by Shane [contact]

Yeah Dan is right about that. It's on the second disc of RUSH IN RIO. When you watch it the video you see why it was such a big deal for RUSH to be in Brazil.
#26 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:53PM by cygnify [contact]

Yes, they held them in Brazil - but not for the opening of the VT tour after being on hiatus since 1997 (5 years.)

#23, I certainly hope you are right. Can you imagine the ticket insanity that would ensue (particularly for the last show?!?)

I will try to remain hopeful, but I can't help but have an uneasy feeling about it... time will tell...
#27 - Posted 3/21/07 @1:53PM by TorontoWriter [contact]

I don't know of them ever doing a press conference to announce a tour though. They did the press in Rio because they'd never been there before and there was such a demand for them to meet with the newsies.
#28 - Posted 3/21/07 @2:06PM by Kurt [contact]

I would think the last show would then be in Toronto not Germany! If that were the case. Again I would wager its just to create buzz...its all about the benji's.
#29 - Posted 3/21/07 @2:09PM by Kurt [contact]

Anybody have any idea what this import is...and the cover ahh!!!
#30 - Posted 3/21/07 @2:10PM by TorontoWriter [contact]

The "benji's" or in Rush's case, the "Loonies". (Our dollars are gold-coloured coins with a loon on them.)
#31 - Posted 3/21/07 @2:24PM by Kurt [contact]

Sorry its on Amazon.com... Rush Import of Snakes and Arrows with the horrible cover
#32 - Posted 3/21/07 @2:42PM by Kurt [contact]

And its 33 bones...anyone anyone? Bueller Bueller?
#33 - Posted 3/21/07 @2:48PM by Dan [contact]

WHERE THE HELL IS THE MIDWEST ALREADY????

Is Tinley Park and Indiana the only dates in the Upper Midwest?

C'Mon guys!!
#34 - Posted 3/21/07 @3:11PM by jediyyz [contact]

I'm wondering why rush.com hasn't at least stated when the tour dates will appear...it can't be that hard...look how much info. Ed gives us! That's who should be running the official site,ED!!...as for the press conference, just another topic for us to speculate...I can't ever remember a pre-tour press conference, but again, who knows what it will reveal. Stay tuned...
#35 - Posted 3/21/07 @3:12PM by Kurt [contact]

No comments on the $33 import with the bad Yoga cover on Amazon?
#36 - Posted 3/21/07 @3:48PM by Scott_PA [contact]

Itching for the Philly date!! All good things come to those who wait, or so they say?!
#37 - Posted 3/21/07 @4:02PM by Don [contact]

The $33 price tag on the import on amazon is pretty standard these days... especially for albums from Japan (it isn't clear on amazon where this is imported from). I'm only saying that the $33 price tag alone is not proof that there's anything extra on this release in terms of bonus tracks (which Rush doesn't believe in), a bonus DVD, etc.

The cover, on the other hand, is more troubling. I had all but decided that the Leela board cover was a hoax. Perhaps there is a "special edition" (with the DVD?) that includes the Leela cover, while the regular edition is the highway scene? That would be strange. But other artists have done this (see the recent Norah Jones release, which has totally different covers for the regular release and the "special edition" with DVD, etc.)
#38 - Posted 3/21/07 @4:06PM by Don [contact]

Oh, and as I posted in another thread yesterday, here's a link to CD-Wow, which is just as official a CD retailer as amazon, featuring the "highway" cover. Maybe there really are two covers!

link

[Note that you can also get Rush in Rio from this site for a paltry 14.95 shipped!]
#39 - Posted 3/21/07 @4:48PM by Mike [contact]

Does Rush come back to the US and tour after Europe or is that it???
#40 - Posted 3/21/07 @4:57PM by Shane [contact]

Hey Mike some bands usally do that like U2 have done a few times. And The Police are gonna do that too as well. But RUSH have never done that. Cause on the last tour of R30 thier last stop was in Europe at Ahoy,Rotterdam. And on VT Tour they end thier tour iin Rio. So keep your fingers cross if they do but I doubt it they will.
#41 - Posted 3/21/07 @5:12PM by Kele [contact]

Any idea what ticket prices will be like, especially at the Red Rocks? They didn't come to St. Paul/Minneapolis last tour so I have no idea how much they are now.
#42 - Posted 3/21/07 @5:41PM by kevin [contact]

Setlist Prediction

1st set Set two

Spirit of the radio Tom Sawyer
distant early warning "New Song"
the pass Subdivisions
Far Cry Roll The Bones
YYZ Freewill
earthshine "New Song"
"New song" La Villa stragiato
hero 2112 (not complete but longer)
Driven encores
the trees Fly by night
Jacob's ladder In the Mood
Hemispheres side 1 (broke down version) Camera Eye

I know this setlist is wishful thinking but a discussion piece.
#43 - Posted 3/21/07 @5:42PM by kevin [contact]

Nice editor, it jumbled my spaces.
#44 - Posted 3/21/07 @5:51PM by D- [contact]

I started to think a little of what Neil wrote yesterday in his 'The Count of Words'. He points out 2 things.

1) "Anyone who knows much about this reporter will understand that I am not entirely thrilled about embarking on another long concert tour".

2) "I'm about to get very, very busy. Until-oh-November"!

Its said to be 48 major cities. It doesnt take a genius to pin-point the 48 major cities in the US. I think that we'll see them do 58-62 shows in the US. And that is not counting the shows over-seas or in Canada.

But, with that said and Eds list. It couldnt be right. Could it? I know right now, they'll do 2 shows in Washington. One at White River Ampt. and the other at the Gorge. Then down to Oregon for one or two. And possibly 4-5 along California. 1, Sac. 2, Shoreline, 3, Marysville 4-5, So. Cal. No, didnt forget Concord. Just trying to pan em out a little!

Any thoughts?

I remember back in the good old days of camping out. How they would do 2-3 shows, continue the tour and spin right back for us in the Bay Area for another 2 shows in another season. It was great... But, that was 20 something years ago! How great the good old days were, eh?

D~

Kevin, ya forgot Barchetta, Pearts tap-aways and Resist. Unless, they are going to replace Resist with something older, which would be kewl! In the End would be great!

Dont forget Heart Full of Soul!

D~
#47 - Posted 3/21/07 @6:09PM by kevin [contact]

I leave out the feedback stuff =(
#48 - Posted 3/21/07 @6:16PM by Shane [contact]

Oh man they will never do Camera Eye. Too complex for them to play.
#49 - Posted 3/21/07 @6:26PM by Brian [contact]

Where do you guys come up with these "crystal ball" set lists? Don't rule Camera Eye out ... fans have been clamoring that gem for ages now. Last time that was played was on the Signals tour ... I saw it in Syracuse 4/83. It was spectacular!!!!!
#50 - Posted 3/21/07 @6:35PM by kevin [contact]

Oh yea Bravado. They will definitely play that tune for the Brazillians.
#51 - Posted 3/21/07 @6:38PM by Shane [contact]

Hey Brian,

I heard them saying something that they won't played ever of Camera Eye. I heard it on some dvd that I have.
#52 - Posted 3/21/07 @6:59PM by kevin [contact]

You know they have said that about several songs throughout the years, Neil in particular. However the I do believe that at some point a song sounds good to you again. I believe this happened with them in the late eighties, with the exception of Spirit of the Radio you heard no Permanent Waves what so ever and often the band would speak of that era as gone forever. Then the alternative scene surfaced and all of a sudden these songs re appeared. I believe Camera Eye and Jacob's Ladder will live again.
#53 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:08PM by Shane [contact]

Don't get me wrong but Permeant Waves is a really good album. Every song is totally cool. Jacob'r Ladder was played live on EXIT STAGE LEFT album. But every RUSH album that I have on cd each album have simular sounds. I am looking forward to new album SNAKES & ARROWS.
#54 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:15PM by keith [contact]

heyD~ it was nice to bring back Red Barchetta, one of my all time fav but i'd love to hear In The End and not just a medley or part of a bunch of song liked they opened with for the 3oth---wich was great , but the whole song for us older fans---maybe something out of the "vault"? jeeez i hope so............
#55 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:19PM by Shane [contact]

Yeah I was soooo blessed when RUSH played Red Barchetta. I wanted to hear live and in person. I was so blown away when they play it at Riven Verzion Wireless Amp. On their R30 tour and I was fourteen rows back from the stage in the orchestra section.
#56 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:23PM by D- [contact]

When was the last time we heard Lakeside Park, PW's or so?

Same for Red Lenses. Only time I saw em play this was the GUP tour.

It'd be nice to see em do a little of the older stuff thats been left off a few sets. Chemisty, Analog Kid, Witch Hunt, B, B & B, Time Stand Still, Superconductor, Territories and I'd think that it'd be a nice add to have "I Think I'm Going Bald' in the mix! But, I'd have to say yes on Camera Eye!

D~
#57 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:31PM by kevin [contact]

Two issues with R30's Red Barchetta version. Delay in the harmonics opening and also the lead with some sort of wah effect. The lead must have that boxy fender sound. The wah effect was a little much.
#58 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:32PM by D- [contact]

#54- Keith. When rumors started flying around that they were going back to the Hemp's style. I pulled out the older stuff that I really havent listened to in quite a while.... Guess that you can say since the good old jean jackets with patches and stoner dayz of 84-86 for me.

I played 'In The End' oneday recently and both of my boys were like, this is cool. Who is this? I got to have the laughs. But, the 'post-trips' came haunting me! (jk)

I'd really like for them to crank open the 'vault' for the old groupies (us) and just make a night of it!

D~
#59 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:55PM by keith [contact]

hey D~ not for nothing my first time seeing them was '80 in NYC, the Palladium, which i dont think is there anymore, but its funny i've been going back to hear old stuff too, actually another fav was Lakeside Park.but i remember somewhere reading something that Ged really didnt like doing song from Caress so.....i guess those songs We wont have too much of a chance to hear....would be nice but with sooooo much music to play.still hoping for In The End......
#60 - Posted 3/21/07 @7:57PM by Lamb Saag [contact]

Hey D,

Did you have one of the RUSH Backstage Club "Lifetime Member" patches sewn on your jean jacket sleeve, and a Man-In-Star pin on one of your front pockets (as well as a pack of matches and some loose change in the other)?

And for the true heads, the back of the jean jacket was bleached then painted with the 1st album logo?

[ cue in music from the Wonder Years ... ]

...ahem, oh yeah, his thread is about tickets.
#61 - Posted 3/21/07 @8:00PM by C.Felix [contact]

I think it was in Roadshow or Traveiling Music where Neil talks about "The Camera Eye"

I think he said something along the lines of "...we know about the internet poll, we know they want us to play The Camera Eye, we've tried it and our hearts just aren't in it. We don't want to play a song that our hearts aren't in because it won't come across as well as it could..."

(I'm paraphrasing.)
#62 - Posted 3/21/07 @8:21PM by Shane [contact]

Yes C. Felix it was on Traveling Music. And I do remember reading that. Thanks C. Felix
#63 - Posted 3/21/07 @8:45PM by keith [contact]

hey D~ funny you mention your boys----when my son was 3 he was singing at day care"its my turn to drive and the day care people asked us what music do you listen to at home.......anyway he's 13 now (i thing the age adds up) and i tookhim to radio city when they playd there..20yrs after i saw them there soooooooooo bring the kids up right and hope they have the same taste in music........

Looks like I'm still dealing with someone claiming to be me(see next thread)...Ed this type of thing is getting old...I know you can tell by our email address where we are coming from...I think we have some immature prankster!(by the way I'm not blaming you ED...I realize it's the nature of open posting) Well I hope some of the regulars come to each others defense when this happens...D~ you got my back!...I too would love to hear some songs from the "vault"...Kid Gloves...Middle town Dreams...Turn the Page...Bastille Day...just to name a few...
#67 - Posted 3/21/07 @9:46PM by Ed [contact]

jediyyz,
Yup- I agree. I'm gonna start banning ips that abuse the system. I will try and do that asap.. I'm starting to feel that I'm going to eventually move to a simple signup system in order to comment. That won't happen anytime soon though. Sorry guys- I know it's frustrating. Just wanted to let you know that I'm aware of it and it's frustrating to me too.
#68 - Posted 3/21/07 @10:03PM by Shane [contact]

I have no complaint from either of you guys. And everybody have thier own opion ya know. I apprecaite that everybody respect each other. We're all RUSH fan. I was born with a mild case Cerbreal Palsy and I have been a RUSH fan since 1981 when MOVING PICTURES was release and ever since then I have collecting RUSH albums on vinly and cd's. Also 4 dvd's by RUSH. Geddy,ALex and Niel has chenged my life from as a kid up to now. I have the deepest respect for RUSH and what they do is unreal. Sometimes I get anyoned by other critzied about RUSH. By it's way life nowadays. I mean what can you do eh! I am proud to see RUSH in concert. Saw them twice and this tour will be my third. I am hoping for RUSH to come by at The Hollywood Bowl or Irvine Verizon Wireless Amp. both of those venues are cool to be at. Well I hope you all have a great night and Ed keep up the good work and I will be looking forward for the annoucment of RUSH's 2007 tour dates. RUSH lives forever.
#69 - Posted 3/21/07 @10:14PM by D- [contact]

'The Wonder Years' If you could hear me lmao! That was damn funny! Wish they'd do a lil get together. But, they had to spoil with the final ep. That was a great show!

Had, believe it or not, a 'starman' in big red and black ink on the back! My folks nearly killed me! And the Hemp's RUSH logo on the front right over my heart!

Didnt you have one? Each and every die hard RUSH fan shoulda or should have one!!!

Keith, one son really digs my taste and is in favor of 'Far Cry' and is counting em days down with us. The other is more into 'Slip-Snot' (I spelled it my way) and the 'Korn' static! But, he thinks that Al was too heavy in 'Far Cry'! Yeah, I know, I cant explain him!

'Between The Wheels' was kewl. Just didnt understand it at first at R30 then caught on. Forgot about 'Ghost of a Chance' The only song that I really like from 'VT' other than 'One Little' would be Ghost Rider! It clearly belongs to Neil. But, it's something that many of us can relate to in our own way!

#65 C. Fel.... Nothing against you! But, are you smoking crack? Is the beer bad? How can you say retire 'Limelight'? Dude, thats like taking out Neils solo! It's wrong!!!! I see where yer coming from and I do sometimes think that the song is overplayed at every tour. Kinda like Distant Early Warning. But, you cant just take the song out, its just wrong! NO BASHING on C.F!!!

AGAIN.... NO BASHING ON C!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although, yup, Presto would be great acoutsic. How about Avail. Light, The Pass or even, ahh, a re-vamped acoutsic ver. of Ghost of a Chance????

D~

I don't know if this is the right place to say this, but "Far Cry" is up on the main page of MediaBase with picture of the guys too.

Shane you sound like the great loyal type of fan that the band always talks about...I enjoy your opinions and your style...I hope you get to see Rush in all the places you mention!! Ed, thank you for the response and for all your efforts...like I've said before, I wish you ran the official site.

O.k. fans, don't throw things at me with the "Songs they don't need to play this time around". Cheers, Scotto

Songs I would Love to See Them Play This Time Around:

Vital Signs, Camera Eye, Natural Science, The Pass, Something For Nothing, Farewell to Kings, The Trees, By-Tor & The Snowdog (only complete version, not a medley version), Jacobs Ladder, Fly By Night

Songs They Don't Need to Play This Time Around:

Freewill, Tom Sawyer, Spirit of Radio, Xanadu, La Villa, Working Man, Red Sector A, Marathon, Closer To The Heart, Bastille Day, Limelight
#74 - Posted 3/21/07 @11:14PM by Scotto [contact]

Forgot one gang, the one song that I absolutely would love them to play is Circumstances and heck it is less than 3 minutes. I wish they could squeeze that classic in the concert tour!!
#75 - Posted 3/21/07 @11:47PM by Shane [contact]

Hey Thanks jediyyz,

For your comment.I really Apprecaite it long live RUSH.
#76 - Posted 3/22/07 @1:15AM by Brian [contact]

Hey Everyone,

Any ideas as to what "epic" gem may get dusted off and played this time around. There's a couple obvious ones that stand out ... and there's a few "sleepers" that would be awesome to be seen again {or for a first}!!

I mean, when ya' think about it, they've done extremely well and covered most of the "vintage" long numbers in the last 3 tours or so.

Such as:
Working Man
By Tor & The Snow Dog
All of 2112
Cygnus X1
Xanadu
Hemispheres
La Villa
Natural Science

Which leaves the obvious - Camera Eye, and another epic gem I really feel they're going to do - Jacobs Ladder!!

Some "sleepers" would be - Digital Man or Marathon

And some real "sleepers" would be - Afterimage or Freeze
#77 - Posted 3/22/07 @3:59AM by F#7add11 [contact]

Maybe Neil wouldn't hate touring if he didn't play like a freaking robot. I've been a Rush fan for 25 years and think Neil is an awesome drummer BUT (and this applies to the rest of the band too) ... why don't they loosen up and improvise a little? That's what most musicians love about playing live.

Especially with the new music that has very little keyboards, why not ditch the click track and jam a little? No wonder Neil hates touring - how about playing a different fill instead of the same exact one night after night, decade after decade?

I hope I get some responses from those who agree, and not just the flames I'm expecting.
#78 - Posted 3/22/07 @6:21AM by C.Felix [contact]

D---I'm just sick of Limelight...that's all.
#79 - Posted 3/22/07 @7:18AM by kevin [contact]

#77 considering there music is so technical there already kind of jamming on every song. Some of us actually prefer the precision in which they play live.
#80 - Posted 3/22/07 @7:37AM by max o'webster uk [contact]

Geddy is the one who really can jam.

Just to say that I have read some of the comments mae by cretins on other threads.

Basically with the excitement of a new album and a tour this web site is excellent and I for one am visiting everyday. Ed should be thanked for his efforts.
#81 - Posted 3/22/07 @7:52AM by C. Felix [contact]

#80...Yes the excitement is there...but, this press conference has me a little confused and concerned. Its just not a RUSH thing to do to annouce tour dates.

Perhaps they'll play in Times Square or the NBC Morning show...

Can you see the board in Times Square...with the EPK on it?

I know, I know...There's as much of a chance as Neil walking into my classroom today as that happening.
#82 - Posted 3/22/07 @8:40AM by kevin [contact]

#80
Geddy is the only one who can jam?

Lets see um Alex Lifeson only wrote the chapter on chord voicings and playing a g chord about a 100 different ways.
And Neil best of drummer of modern times. Yea your statement
sounds about right. NOT
#83 - Posted 3/22/07 @8:52AM by Brian [contact]

WTF? It's amazing, amidst all of the posts on here, the juvenile posts really stand out. Not because of what they say, but how they say it. You're not fooling anyone, and to be honest you're only mildly annoying. I just feel bad for you.
B
#84 - Posted 3/22/07 @9:25AM by Brian [contact]

LMAO, WOW! I feel so honored that you'd find retorting to me worthy of so many duplicates. Point of fact, I'm not Ed. Also, I merely commented on your posts hoping to disuade you from making an ass of yourself further. My only thought is that it must hurt to be that bored/ignnorant.
B
#85 - Posted 3/22/07 @9:29AM by Brian [contact]

BTW, you're not impressing anyone, save for maybe the other 5th graders, I imagine, huddled around your computer. As for me, I'm starting to see why kids are bringing guns to school.
B
#86 - Posted 3/22/07 @9:48AM by Brian [contact]

LOL, ummm...yeah. I'm well aware of what it takes to make a duplicate, what surprised me is that you felt it required over 100 of them to get whatever your point was across. Why are you here?
B
#87 - Posted 3/22/07 @9:51AM by Brian [contact]

As if "hmm" isn't the same person. Funny how we go months without anything of the sort, and then all of a sudden, there are multiple jackasses. It's too much coincidence obviously.

#89 - Posted 3/22/07 @9:56AM by Vischum [contact]

What the hell is wrong with you people. Rush fans are very cool people. Everybody on here lately, must be in to Justin Timberlake or the Cheetah Girls. All this bickering going on and 4th grade talk. It;s bullshit. Lets try to be a little mature here.
#90 - Posted 3/22/07 @9:57AM by Ed [contact]

Brian- sorry. :)
Looks like the thread was hijacked last night. I've deleted all the offending posts and blocked the ips. Brain wasn't actually talking to himself.. and as far as I know he is not schizophrenic. ;)

Back to something more pleasent.
Songs I think are concert worthy:

Half the World , Totem , The Speed of Love , War Paint , Superconductor , Out of the Cradle , and end with , The Sphere

Still Rolling the Bones for a St. Louis date.
#92 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:09AM by scott c [contact]

Here are my picks:Marathon, Territories, Mission, Scars, Wheres My Thing?,Cut to the Chase, Sweet Miracle, end with The Weapon
#93 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:10AM by Brian [contact]

Thanks man, I was really just trying to disuade the kid from making it worse, but i guess he was having none of that. You know, my grandmother use to write me letters and spell my name B-r-a-i-n, thanks for helping me re-live that Ed, lol. Now what were we talking about?
Oh yeah, Rush! I'll take this oppurtunity to throw my "obscure song" suggestion into the hat, I think they should play "Middletown Dreams". Love that song, but I whole-heartedly agree with "Circumstances", "Camera Eye", "Witch Hunt", "Hemispheres", and, oh yeah..."The Weapon"!
B
#94 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:18AM by Lamb Saag [contact]

No doubt, Brian!

I read the hundreds of posts; funny, they all seemed to say the same thing...

And pretty pathetic what he/they did to you, Ed. It feels like I just witnessed a drive-by shooting. So many innocent people getting blasted...

Anyway, last time I checked, RUSH is still a pretty good subject to discuss, right? Remember RUSH?

(Personally, I'd like to go back on D~'s thread of RUSH-decorated jean jackets...)

I want that one too!

I am really nervous that there aren't any Washington/Oregon dates yet. Praying for a slot between 7/30 and 08/04.
I just can't imagine them skipping the NW.
#97 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:37AM by Scott_PA [contact]

Has Rush done the tour date "press conference" in the past? It just kinda dawned on me that this is unusual, and given the "farewell" rumors that circulated before... hmmm. Well, there is not a damned thing that we can do about it one way or another, so we shall see what Monday brings.
#98 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:49AM by Steve D [contact]

what the hell is with these ticket prices? I clicked on the tickets for the Scranton, PA show, and it says they're from $255 to $465?!?!?!?! What is up with that? I was expecting $100-$150, max, and hoping for less. Does anyone know why these cost so much, and how long have they been on sale for?
#99 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:50AM by Brian [contact]

The "announcement" is quite puzzling, and I would agree that it is a little worrisome. What compounds that for me, is that through the years, they've always been in search of the elusive "perfect album"-I know that I don't need to remind you that Geddy said that this was the best work that they had ever done. That does scare me a bit. But, in the end, they deserve to go out however they want to, and everyone will agree that it's best to go out at the top of your game. I'm just glad that I was able to be a part of this for as long as I have.
B
#100 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:52AM by Brian [contact]

Steve...they are not on sale, and they won't be that expensive. Wherever you are seeing those tickets, it's nothing to worry about.
B
#101 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:56AM by Ed [contact]

#98 Steve,
Right- they're not officially on-sale yet. Those links go to a ticket broker. They were one of the few sites that still had the show listed so I used them (ticketmaster, livenation, etc. had taken down their links). I was a bit premature on putting those up. I'm gonna take those down to avoid confusion. Brokers are a bad way to get tix, unless the show is sold out (or almost sold-out and you want better tix).
#102 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:57AM by Mark Wallace [contact]

The Weapon is one of my favorite songs. Would love to hear it again live. Any time I can hear Pre-1980 songs live, that is a bonus. Anthem, AFTK, anything from the first album.

As for the "radio staples" like Tom Sawyer, Limelight, New World Man, Subdivisions, etc I hear them enough on the radio.

As for Camera Eye, they played it on the Signals Tour. I think they played the full version in Long Beach Feb 14/15 1983. Could be wrong and it wouldn't be the first time.
#103 - Posted 3/22/07 @10:59AM by max o'webster uk [contact]

I said Geddy was the only one who could "really" jam. The other 2 aren't slouches I agree, but it seems to me that Geddy is the one more willing to improvise sometimes. Perhaps the drums and guitars are too scripted to mess about with.

It would be nice to see Kim Mitchell and Geddy have a jam with a more Jazz type drummer and perhaps a sax and the keyboard player from Spock's Beard in front of Peter Frampton's fresh corpse. Im sure I've explained myself.

Other thoughts, if this is to be the Farewell to things tour I may try to get to the last show looks like Germany at the moment. Although the b******s murdered my grandfather in 1943 I might have to make the trip.
#104 - Posted 3/22/07 @11:00AM by Steve D [contact]

Brian & Ed, thank you both for calming me down. I'm a college student (at Penn State, go Lions!), and, like most students, I don't have too much money. This will be my first Rush concert, and can't wait for the day to come. I guess I just got a little jumpy when I saw the prices up on that site.
#105 - Posted 3/22/07 @11:10AM by Brian [contact]

No problem Steve, stick to rush.com, and this little site here and you'll be fine. Consider this, I wasn't even a fan of Rush when i saw them the first time(on the Presto tour), and when I left that show, I immediately bought everything they had and have been devout since. I was 15 then. I can only imagine what it will be like for you and anyone else in your situation, the boys truly are incredible. And believe me, Rush in Rio, and R30 won't prepare you for what it will be like when you're there.

Hi All,
there's been some interesting suggestions, but how about this:
Need Some Love
Different Strings
The Necromancer
Countdown
Chain Lightning
Freeze
Ceiling Unlimited
Time and Motion
Best I Can
Grand Designs
Lessons
Making Memories
Summertime
Working Man

At least some of those interspresed with the biggest hits and the new stuff...that's be a fresh concert that none of us have never seen!!! :-)
#107 - Posted 3/22/07 @11:22AM by Shane [contact]

Wow alot of negetive thoughts. Guys this press confrence might be a surprise for us RUSH fans. but this bitching and moaning needs to stop is not worth it ladies and gentelmens.Just chill til Monday. Then we all can plan our vacation and see RUSH. Actually I really don't see any respect about RUSH.
#108 - Posted 3/22/07 @11:26AM by SF in Prague [contact]

One more thing: if anyone out there in Rush-cyber land knows of a website award, let us know so we can all give ED our vote...ED for President! :-)
#109 - Posted 3/22/07 @11:39AM by C.Felix [contact]

If this is going to be a "Farewell to Our Kings" tour, I'm sure they would end in Toronto. Even if they have to come back from Europe and re-set everything up for 2 more shows...I'm sure they'd do that.

Hi everyone,

This is my first post to this blog nevertheless, I read the headline RUSH news almost everyday. I saw RUSH for the first time as a tweenie on their Grace under Pressure tour. I remember being totally mesmerized and hooked for life! I would like to hear the Enemy Within and Time Stands Still. However, I will take whatever I can get from the boys. I truly enjoyed the beginning compilation on R30. Perhaps they will design a set list with some "oldies" similar to that style.
I have enjoyed reading your messages and hope to become a regular participant to the message board as we draw closer to the tour anouncement. Hope to see the guys in MA, NY, or CT or perhaps all three!??

Best wishes to all,

Lee
#112 - Posted 3/22/07 @12:00PM by RushFan [contact]

To # 103 - I can pretty much guarantee that if this was a farewell tour, there would be another round of US & Canadian dates added. They're not going to knowinglt play the final shows of their career in Germany or in South America. I'm sure the very last show would be in Toronto and there would probably be a series of shows in major US markets before that as well. I'm sure that's the case no matter when the last tour actually is (provided it's determined in their minds in advance).
#113 - Posted 3/22/07 @12:14PM by Colin [contact]

Unless they do an Elton John, Bowie, et al, and have a 'Farewell' tour every five years :D

...please, no
B
#115 - Posted 3/22/07 @12:28PM by D- [contact]

Just keep it RUSH... If you cant, yer in the wrong place!!!

#78 C - Yeah, I'm with you there. For me, its Distant Early Warning. And thats why it was cool to see them do Between The Wheels as something diffrent from GUP!

#96 T - They'll be here! How can Neil miss out on riding through the cascades and not enjoy the troopers? I'm nervous too. But, I think that Ed is withholding the NW dates to make me sweat a little! (jk)

#94 Lamb - I say all of us go to Goodwill, find a good ol jean jacket, throw on some patches, get some skin tight acid wash pants, grow our hair out (mullets of course to impress the ladies) and make an 80's retro night of the show... LOL!

D~
#116 - Posted 3/22/07 @12:30PM by Shane [contact]

The Who have done before they annouce it be the Farewell Tour back in 82. Then 8 years later they tour to clebrate the Anniversay of Tommy. Then in 96 it was Quadrophina tour. Ever since they tour and tour. I don't see RUSH do that. If RUSH was gonna do a Farewell tour they should make it exciting and a party show ya know.
#117 - Posted 3/22/07 @12:33PM by Tony [contact]

Some of my old favs that I would like to see them play are in chronological order:

Here Again
In the End
Necromancer
Fountain of Lamneth - the whole side!!
Twilight Zone
Something for Nothing
A Farewell to Kings - title track
Circumstances
Natural Science
Vital Signs
Witchhunt
Broons Bane! - This and La Villa live Hooked me for good
I would so love to hear Alex play Broons Bane.
The Weapon
Afterimage
I could go on, but those are some of my all time favs

Hey Steve, listen to Ed's advice...those sites were the dreaded ticket brokers...inflated prices...basically, scalpers...don't worry you will be able to get tickets at reasonable prices considering the great experience you will have(85-120 dollar range most likely). I wish something would be done about the brokers...boycotting their "services" would probably send the message...I srongly suggest all parents to take your children to see the shows...it helped turn my own kids into life long fans...how about Scars as a song to pull out?!(loved it at the Presto tour)
#120 - Posted 3/22/07 @1:14PM by Brian [contact]

"Scars"...hell yeah, how about "Hand Over Fist", or "Available Light"?

Note that this site, as well as www.amazon.de and www.cd-wow.com all list the release date as April 27th. Hmmm.

#126 - Brian, join the rest of us on the dark side!

Does anyone know where the press confrence is being held at in NY on Monday?

My thought is that if it is being held at Warner Music. Then it'd have to do with the album. The tour info would and could be released any where!

#127 - Thanks Don! But, whats sup with 2 min instrumentals??? It's kewl to see that most of the tracks are 5 mins or so. But, whats the gig on 'Album Version'

D~
#130 - Posted 3/22/07 @2:03PM by Don [contact]

If the track times on that German site are correct, Snakes and Arrows will clock in at 62:50.
#131 - Posted 3/22/07 @2:04PM by Brian [contact]

The short instrumentals make me wonder if the songs all run together without stops, like The Mars Volta.
B
#132 - Posted 3/22/07 @2:07PM by Don [contact]

I think the "album version" comments are just record company marketing copy. The tracks surely won't be listed like that on the back of the album.

I'm hoping that at least a couple of the instrumentals might be extensions of the song preceding them. For example, maybe "Hope" is an extended outtro to "The Way the Wind Blows." That could be cool.

Oh, and "The Main Monkey Business" is over six minutes... can't wait to hear that one.

Does anyone have an opinion on all these German web sites listing the release date as April 27? Is there a chance the release date is being moved up to meet the hype? Or maybe that hell has frozen over and the Europeans are getting a Rush album before North America?
#133 - Posted 3/22/07 @3:14PM by Shane [contact]

Vapor Trailrs clocked at 67mins.
#134 - Posted 3/22/07 @5:04PM by Steve [contact]

Is it just me or does it seem like tracks 8 through 12 are grouped together with strong individual human desires with religious/inspirational/sinful themes like Hope, Faith, Brave Face, Good News (Bible), Narcissism to possibly form another Rush epic?? Track 8 starts with a 2 minute instrumental (similar to Overture in 2112) followed by the storytelling middle layer only to end with another 2 minute instrumental (Grand Finale-2112). Is my desire to see another Rush epic making me read into this track listing too much??

Donny Osmond will be pissed off if a bunch of Rush fans turn up at his Wembley show in London on 12th October.

Possibly not as unhappy as the Rush fans though :-)

About release dates. I think that albums in Germany are traditionally released on a Friday, hence the 27th April for them. Here in the UK, albums are normally released on a Monday and our release day is 30th April.

So, hell has indeed frozen over.

SAN DIEGO!!!!WOOO HOOO!!!!! That's my nick of the woods : D
Looks like I won't have to try and get a million dollars to fly out and see them, or go on an expensive road trip after all.

#134: TOTALLY agree with you!! i wonder if tracks 8-13 refer to the 'masterpiece' that Neil wrote of earlier in the writing/recording process!! a single piece of music perhaps...subdivided

WOW...what if!?!?

Maybe they should do a gig with Donny Osmond. Heck, Jimi Hendrix did a couple of gigs with The Monkeys...

Brian and D~, I'm with you guys. When the heck are we going to see the Chicago date? Or Peoria would be cool, Bloomington even better!

Donny and Rush could jam together. There's a scary picture.

I hope you won't take offense but I find that tour date list kind of odd. Twenty-eight dates in the US and only two in Canada (and neither of those is Toronto?) They are skipping Toronto and every other major city in Canada? Surely Rush has more regard for their Canadian fans... :^( When they were inducted into the Canadian Artists Hall of Fame, Geddy said that Canada was a great country to work out of.. Well, play for more of us then.

Lois, no worries - it's certainly *not* a complete list. These are just the dates I have so far. Man, if they skipped Toronto I think they'd get their Orders of Canada revoked! :)

Rush will play their hometown...count on it!!
