Tour Date Updates; opening date moved, western dates including Red Rocks
Posted at 08:43 PM | comments (63)

Rush at Red RocksUPDATE - 3/16@1:38PM: Utah! Energy Solutions Arena Usana Amphitheater in Salt Lake City on Friday, July 27th (Friday). Not confirmed of course - but none of these are really.

My tour date updates thread from 2 days ago was starting to get very cluttered with updates so I thought I should start a new one. A lot has happened in the last 2 days. The big news is the moving of opening night from the Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville (which was recently bought and closed down recently) to the HiFi Buys Amphitheater in Atlanta on June 13th. The Atlanta date was originally scheduled for June 18th but since that is now open it looks like they'll be playing 2 dates in North Carolina; one in Charlotte on the 19th and one at Walnut Creek in Raleigh around the same day (no exact date yet).

In addition to the opening night change, several shows out west have been announced and/or rumored. They are Las Vegas on July 28th; Marysville, CA on August 4th;
Morrison, CO (at Red Rocks) on August 8th (just announced on ticketmaster); and Dallas on August 10th.

There's also a rumor that they'll celebrate Neil Peart's 55th birthday by playing the John Labatt Centre in London, ON on September 12th.

As far as Europe goes, we have 2 German dates now; October 19th in Oberhausen and October 21st in Mannheim.

Here's the updated summary list. I'm sure that about 2 seconds after I post this I'll hear of another update. :)

Jun. 13 - Atlanta, GA @ HiFi Buys Amphitheater
Jun. 15 - West Palm Beach, FL @ Sound Advice Amphitheater
Jun. 16 - Tampa, FL @ Ford Amphitheater @ Florida State Fairgrounds
Jun. 19 - Charlotte, NC @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Jun. 27 - Mansfield, MA @ Tweeter Center
Jun. 29 - Scranton PA @ Montage Mountain
Jun. 30 - Saratoga Springs, NY @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center
Jul. 02 - Wantagh, NY @ Jones Beach Amphitheater
Jul. 04 - Darien Lake, NY @ Six Flags
Jul. 07 - Homdel, NJ @ PNC Arts Center
Jul. 09 - Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun Arena
Jul. 27 - Salt Lake City, UT @ Usana Amphitheater
Jul. 28 - Las Vegas, NV @ MGM Grand Garden Arena
Aug. 04 - Marysville, Ca @ Sleep Train Amphitheater
Aug. 08 - Morrison, CO @ Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Aug. 10 - Dallas, TX @ Smirnoff Music Center
Sep. 01 - Cincinnati, OH @ Riverbend Music Center
Sep. 12 - London, ON @ John Labatt Centre in London, ON
Oct. 03 - Glasgow, UK @ SECC Arena
Oct. 05 - Newcastle, UK @ Newcastle Metro Arena
Oct. 16 - Rotterdam, Netherlands @ Ahoy' Rotterdam
Oct. 17 - Rotterdam, Netherlands @ Ahoy' Rotterdam

Cincinnati is still the only date in Ohio...
#2 - Posted 3/15/07 @8:55PM by Ed [contact]

They had better play Cleveland or I'll be pissed! ;)
Actually, if they didn't it'd just give me another excuse for a road trip... to Red Rocks perhaps?? :)
#3 - Posted 3/15/07 @8:58PM by Eric D. [contact]

ME WON'T MSG!
#4 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:08PM by Jon [contact]

If Cinci is the only midwestern stop then there is gonna be one hell of a ticket scramble...surely Indy or St. Louis is in their plans!?!?!?
#5 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:13PM by jessica [contact]

i could not be more stoked about red rocks. i don't know how many of you have seen shows there in general... but the acoustics are unbelievable for an outdoor venue, and you can't beat the backdrop. first rush show ever... what a great place for it to be. anyone who saw them there for r30--how far in advance do you need to get there to camp out to get ridiculously good seats?
#6 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:20PM by Dino64 [contact]

They must be insane to come to Texas during August...it's like 110 down here virtually every day!

Not very wise. I'll still go though!
#7 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:27PM by T Ricks [contact]

Getting closer to the NW. I am hoping they are in Washington (in Seattle or at the Gorge) on my b'day Aug 1. Judging by the tour date puzzle pieces falling into play, I'd say my chances are fair!
#8 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:31PM by Don [contact]

I live in Colorado and have seen shows at Red Rocks in the past (at least 3 concerts back in my high school/college days), so I should know the answer to this question but for some reason I don't: There are NO reserved seats at Red Rocks, correct? It's strictly first-come, first-served? Either way, I'm really hoping to score tickets to this show. R30 sold out almost instantly when it came to Denver, so I missed out on that one entirely...
#9 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:33PM by K.K. [contact]

Where is the Phoenix date? It looks like they could get out here sometime after the Mohegan Sun gig, but I'll tell you what, the longer they push it towards the end of July/ early August, it's gonna make for one brutal day at Desert Sky Pavilion with temps floating around the 110 degree mark...UGH!
#10 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:38PM by jessica [contact]

don--red rocks leaves it up to the band, actually. a lot of bands will have the first 25 rows or so be general admission and then have the rest be actual reserved seating... sometimes the whole thing is GA. for some reason, i see rush making all of it GA, but then again i have no idea. talk to me about tickets... i have a possible connection. no promises, but anything is worth a shot.
#11 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:40PM by andrew [contact]

This is the best site in the history of the internets.
#12 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:49PM by RicoRoq [contact]

I was at the R30 Red Rocks show in June '04, which by the way was THE best RUSH show I have ever seen and heard (out of 46 total).

It was NOT first-come-first-serve, or GA. My seat was assigned (17th row). There are no "seats" per se, just wood benches. Kinda like risers.

As for the acoustics at RR... un-freakin-believable! And the setting is just unreal to look at at. The two giant rocks that jut out look like huge slabs of bacon.
#13 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:51PM by Paul The Rush Geek [contact]

You're pissed Ed? Where the heck are the IL venues???!!! Better at least get one in Chicago!!! What's up with that???
#14 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:54PM by tygr [contact]

Well, I hate the Atlanta date on a Wednesday, but I'll just have to suck it up and find a way to make it. (o;} The good part about it is I've never seen their opening show on any tour, so that will be good compensation. Will catch them in Tampa, too. Aiight...time to listen to Far Cry AGAIN. LOL
#15 - Posted 3/15/07 @9:55PM by Justin [contact]

So question...

I plan on attending at least 10 shows this tour. Does anyone have success with the "day of the show" ticket method? I plan on going to the city, and waking up the day of the show to get on ticketmaster.com to get the good seats up front. If not, I'll head to the venue and get whatever I can. Again, I'm going for close to front row. Thoughts on this???
#16 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:02PM by Shane [contact]

Hey guys.

These tour dates gets more exciting by the minute. What I can't figure of the rumor of calling this tour a farewell tour. You know what that means this tour will be a sold out shows. Count your beads if not a farewell tour. That would be a madness frenzy. But I am looking forward for the dates out in Ca. Hopefully Irvine Virizon Wireless Amp. or Hollywood Bowland or near San Diego. I keep my finger cross. RUSH RUELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#17 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:03PM by will [contact]

Everyone keep in mind that they are playing 48 North American dates. There are only 17 posted so far. My point is when they officially release all 48 dates, I think everyone will be HAPPY.
#18 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:09PM by Guy Nowitzki [contact]

Rush to Dallas (and hopefully to Houston and San Antonio afterwards) on Aug. 10?!?!? Geddy is tougher than I thought. During either the Vapor Trails or R30 tour, he brought up how hot it was during the concert, and playing in Texas in August is tough, yet he decided to come back at the same time. He's tough! He sings for Rush! Plus, he's a big baseball fan. so he likes the heat!
#19 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:09PM by will [contact]

I think the "farewell tour" talk is baseless. Just a bad rumor. I can't see them touring in their 60's though, in my opinion this is probably their second to last tour. All three guys are about 55, so maybe a tour at age 58 or 59 and then that's it.
#20 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:13PM by K.K. [contact]

In response to Justin:

Ticketmaster typically drops premium seats in the days immediately preceding a show, perhaps 2-3 days out up till the morning of the gig.
I scored a pair of tickets to R30 in San Diego 2 days before the show, 6th row, just to the right of center ( actually right in front of Geddy's mike stand ! )
Ticketmaster does this all the time, just stay on top of the site for a few days and you should find something nice...
Being first in line at the ticket window when it opens is a good strategy as well...I have found great seats to shows that way.

You know I tried to get tixs for The Police. But I started thinking RUSH will be on tour this summer. I'm like RUSH is hands down is the best live band ever so I will save money and see RUSH instead of The Police. And looking at the tour dates for The Police every stop that will play is all sold out. I was scratching my head why in the hell it is so bloody important to see them. I would rather see RUSH. Besides they have been around longer than the Police. Oh yeah tixs price for The Police is unreal. I was like to about to bute my head off. I hope RUSH tixs will be reasonalble. RUSH lives forever
#22 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:22PM by % [contact]

Let's calm down here a bit. Love em as we do, even if this were a farewell tour (which has been established as a false rumor), they would not "sell out" these amphitheaters. Some of these places can hold 30,000-40,000 people. Rush averages 12,000 a show. They will never see those numbers in the States. I mean look at Vancouver. They can barely put 5,000 in the GM Place. Iowa is also a lost market to them. The Rochester NY show for Counterparts was sold out 10,000 5/4/94. Vapor Trails attendance was horrific - 4,000 tops.
Even if this album comes close to Moving Picture levels of inspiration, they would up the average to perhaps 15,000.

I was however impressed with the Detroit DTE Energy amphitheater Vapor Trails show - 17,000 easy and a second night on top of that.
MSG also had a respectable 14,000 or so. Jones Beach sold at just over 15,000. Scranton has clocked in at 12,000 for both VT and R30. R30 show at PNC in NJ actually had higher attendance at around 14,000 compared to VT.
#23 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:22PM by will [contact]

Rush ticket prices are always reasonable. For the R30 tour I went to 3 shows and paid somewhere in the 30's for each show. Those were lawn seats though, but the party's in the lawn. You know what I mean.
#24 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:30PM by jediyyz [contact]

Guys...don't go to Red Rocks...it's not that great...Oh man I can't even lie on a blog...it's everything you've heard about and more...saw R30 row 5...it is all reserved seating...ticketmaster is a confusing, cruel beast!! To wait or not to wait, that is the question...to suffer the loss of great seats...or risk it all to get great ones on show day...what a distracted globe we are on...just when we feel we're ahead of the wheel...well you know the rest...it is...silence.
#25 - Posted 3/15/07 @10:54PM by xyquanzjryth [contact]

YES! A Vegas date!!! This will be my first Rush show, and hopefully not my last... :D
#26 - Posted 3/15/07 @11:15PM by Jon [contact]

Will,

Yep, you're right...only 17 posted and there's 3 wide open areas of possible dates (June 19-27th, July 9-28th, Aug. 10th-Sept.1).

My question is (so I can start 'tentatively' planning on taking off work) when would be best case scenario for them to hit Midwestern cities (St. Louis, Indy, and my city Evansville [YES, IT COULD HAPPEN!])?

I would naturally assume it would be near the Cinci date but what the hell do I know...???

I'll be a tad disappointed when they do actually release the tourdates...nothing fuels the excitement like speculation, eh?

Jon
#27 - Posted 3/15/07 @11:26PM by Dino [contact]

OK, London (ONT.) something at least, but when is the T.O. show going to be? Hopefully, like VT they will wraparound and do it twice. Nothing like a hometown show. I know they get the jitters playing at home, but I'll tell you, the R30 show was THE TIGHTEST that I have EVER seen them.
#28 - Posted 3/15/07 @11:29PM by Jesse G. [contact]

Ummm... LA, CALIFORNIA?!?!
#29 - Posted 3/15/07 @11:43PM by Laura N. [contact]

Wow, I'm psyched to see a Texas date, but bummed because it's right smack dab in the middle of my husband's family reunion in Tennessee!!! I've been swearing all along that if this happened, I'd be staying here to see the (hopefully 3!) Texas shows; man, I hate to piss off my in-laws, but it's Rush!! I was there for two shows each on VT and R30, and it was as close to a religious experience as I've ever come.
I'm so glad I found this page; it's good to know there are others who actually get off on seeing pictures of the Far Cry single! >sniffles< I thought I was the only one!!!
#30 - Posted 3/15/07 @11:57PM by Botcherby [contact]

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!
they skipped right over Utah between Vegas and Red Rocks!!!!!!!!
there is plenty of room inbetween but still...
im going to be in a nervous frenzy until I know if theyre coming, i cant make it to red rocks...
#31 - Posted 3/16/07 @12:09AM by Broonskey [contact]

I am awaiting ANY information regarding the Verizon amphitheatre ticket sales. During the summer months, the humidity is a killer, but I find a thin layer of vaseline betwixt my thighs helps with the malevolent chaffing.

I LOVE the new single.

Rush on ;P.
#32 - Posted 3/16/07 @1:12AM by Don [contact]

Shane... I'm regretting getting Police tickets myself now that I know Rush is touring. The Police are cool and all, but I'd much rather have just saved money for the Rush tickets. At least there is a couple of months between the shows (I have tix for the June 10th Police show).

And speaking of tickets... JESSICA, I'd love to get more info from you on your possible source for the Red Rocks show!

And thanks Ed for this awesome, awesome forum for discussing the upcoming tour...

hey don--email me at jaytee578ATyahoo.com. i am going to talk to some people today and see what the extent of their power is :) like i said, no promises of course, but it would be nice be sure of tickets AT ALL... mush less, good seats. and while poster #22 has a good point about them averaging 12-14000 in a show last tour, last i checked, red rocks only holds about 9000. email me and i shall get back to you!
#37 - Posted 3/16/07 @8:16AM by gamblor [contact]

frig!! i hope they come to canada! theres a month in their schedule that is still wide open tho. so theres a chance. if not, i just might have to make the trip down to see em.

#39 - Posted 3/16/07 @8:23AM by CJ [contact]

I had already planned on going to nashville like I did last tour and I cant describe to you what the opening night vibe is like. It is incredible. I live in atlanta so I am really hoping that the firt leg dates hold true. I have already made a vacation pick based on this info and I believe it because the first leg of the last tour was leaked in a similiar way and it was true so I will keep my fingers crossed. Now here comes my problem. I saw the vegas show last time and it was awesome. I really would love to see it again but im torn between vegas and redrocks. I cant do both. I do plan on seeing 3-4 shows on this tour so im trying to pick the best ones i can and space them out a little too. You kinda have to let your ears heal themselves between shows especially if you plan on getting up close. Does anyone have a clue as to a presale like last tour? I scored some great seats to the nashville and atlanta shows last time.
#40 - Posted 3/16/07 @8:34AM by Tabor [contact]

Post 29 scares me. Live in Omaha. Seen them 3 times and Ames, Ia. was the last. Hoping they come this way again but doesn't sound good???
#41 - Posted 3/16/07 @8:39AM by Rubinowits [contact]

Where is/are the Michigan dates? OY! Michigan has been a stronghold since the beginning. You owe us, Rash. jk.
Seriously, though, get yer canuck butts down here.
Does anyone ever upgrade their tix when they get to the show? I always do. I go to the ticket box and ask for an upgrade and I have gotten fantastic seats by spending a little more. And that's after already having got decent seats.
#42 - Posted 3/16/07 @9:02AM by melissa [contact]

For the tickmaster deal;
How much have those close-to-front row tickets cost to you all in the past? I'm debating wheather I should (try) doing that before or after buying other seats, but how much to they cost?
#43 - Posted 3/16/07 @9:25AM by C. Felix [contact]

I had 3rd row for VT...just got on line at Ticketmaster...
#44 - Posted 3/16/07 @10:19AM by jediyyz [contact]

So currently we have 16 unconfirmed North American dates(U.S.)...with not too many days in the calander to add all of the hoped for destinations...either a lot of people are going to be disappointed, or these are not entirely accurate...either way now may not be the time to plan vacations and take off work...wish the dates were official...Monday?!
#45 - Posted 3/16/07 @11:25AM by Don [contact]

Jessica... e-mail sent. Thanks!
#46 - Posted 3/16/07 @12:22PM by Vischum [contact]

To post No. 8 and all Rush goers to Red Rocks.Until 3 years ago Red Rocks was always GA. Now a days its reserved seating from row 1 to row 25. Rows in the middle 50 are GA, and the rest to the top are reserved. I;ve been to about 30 shows there now, and its always Unbeleiveable. The R30 tour stopped there last time, for the very 1st time. I to this day, say it was the best Rush show I;ve seen. I have seen them all over the country now since 1977, and its No. 1 in my books.Man O Man what a show.{all the worlds a stage}. If you guys can go to Red Rocks, Do it. It is definetely worth the trip. I'll meet ya there, me and my Rush Buddies from Loveland. KBye
#47 - Posted 3/16/07 @1:34PM by Brian [contact]

FYI...there are 4 configurations for Red Rocks seating, the artist's management determines ratio of reserved/GA. It has always been this way.
B
#48 - Posted 3/16/07 @1:37PM by jediyyz [contact]

I also saw R30 at Red Rocks...it is great, but I honestly feel the sound in other places I've been is just as good...I always enjoyed Fiddlers Green in Denver...for those interested, realize the light show won't be as elaborate in Red Rocks...it is harder to rig the entire show(straight from lighting director Howard Ungerleider)...but for many, the setting makes up for that...I'm still being cautious about dates...have I mentioned that ticketmaster is frustrating!!
#49 - Posted 3/16/07 @1:42PM by j [contact]

Also, I arrived several hour before the Red Rocks show(reserved tickets in hand) and there weren't enough people in line to believe that any good seats were general admission...it seemed ever seat was reserved?
#50 - Posted 3/16/07 @1:44PM by jediyyz [contact]

Last post was from Jediyyz not just j...not sure what happened
#51 - Posted 3/16/07 @3:42PM by jessica [contact]

based on ticketmaster's site, every seat at red rocks WILL be reserved, but who knows? they still may take the date down all together! hopefully everything will be cleared up on monday...
#52 - Posted 3/16/07 @4:06PM by Vischum [contact]

Thats, true, lets hope everything is all cleared up by Monday. I just hope that all the ticket dates aren;t the same on sale date. That could get quite expensive. I,m sure everybody plans on seeing Rush more than once.
#53 - Posted 3/16/07 @5:45PM by Stu Griffin [contact]

Red Rocks? Guess Liberator finally has something to look forward to.
#54 - Posted 3/16/07 @7:17PM by Rob [contact]

Ed, Dont worry about Rush playing Cleveland. The band will forever owe your city for their U.S. start. Not to mention they have always had a strong following in the midwest.
#55 - Posted 3/17/07 @9:33AM by dean schiada [contact]

we should see more dates this week, chicago. wisconsin, michigan. indiana, missouri. columbus/cleveland? everyone that i saw on 2004 tour i will hopefully see on the raod this summer? anthony from toronto? peter from europe? im planning at least 5 shows, id like to see opening night in atlanta. but west palm beach and tampa shows look more likey, scranton is possible too ! of course the midwest dates too. any one want to hook up on the road let me know? dean
#56 - Posted 3/17/07 @11:52AM by Rob [contact]

Yea the midwest dates( Indianapolis, Columbus, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Chicago, St Louis,....maybe Dayton, but I doubt it with Cincy on board)....all these cities are pratically mandatory for these guys. I'm going to try like hell to hit at least four of these cities....cant f****** wait!
#57 - Posted 3/17/07 @3:29PM by Jon [contact]

On another comments list it was mentioned there WAS a presale for tix on the last North American tour!! Anyone tell me how much more are the tix then and how quick do they go??? If Ticketbastard is behind this then do all the good seats get scarfed up then when they go on sale or do you get Ticketmaster's pick of the litter instead of your own.

Hope it doesn't go that way...

P.S. Anyone have an idea who's opening for them? I heard a rumor it might be Gary Moore. I could dig that ;)

JMR
#58 - Posted 3/17/07 @8:04PM by CJ [contact]

Hey JMR they did the presale through music today and the price was at face value. I got unbelievable seats for the nashville and atlanta shows on the presale. By the way I hope no one opens for them i dont think anyone is anyway the saratoga and darien lake shows show " An evening with Rush" lets not muck this thing up with an opening act ok.
#59 - Posted 3/17/07 @11:56PM by Jon [contact]

CJ,

Face value price? Very good! Is "music today" some type of online ticket purchasing thing (got me on that one)? I do know I saw Iron Maiden, Dio, and Motorhead a few years back and Maiden allowed fans on their site to buy tix early...will Rush do that on their site or how will we know when and where to jump on them...?

Appreciate the info...my first RUSH show and wanna make the seats good ones (hoping for an Indy, St. Louis show but keeping Cinci in mind in case the previous two don't happen...).

Thanks again!

jmr
#60 - Posted 3/18/07 @2:25PM by cJ [contact]

JMR If there is going to be a presale that info will probably be given when the tour dates are officially announced. On the R30 tour if you were on the mailing list on rush.com then you were given a password. On the specific presale days you had to log on to a link from rush.com to music today put in the password and buy tickets in the samd fashion as you would ticketmaster. I still have the stubs and they say music today on them. I scored some awesome seats about 12th row center for nashville and about 20 rows center in atlanta but the seats for the atlanta show were elevated above the first section where you could sit down and have a perfect veiw. I talked to a guy at the atlanta show that only ordered one ticket on the presale and got front row. I hope they do the same for this tour because i dont want to take my chances with ticketmaster or ebay. You can get some really good seats on ebay just be prepared for the raping without lube.
#61 - Posted 3/18/07 @2:35PM by Jon [contact]

CJ,

Good info...much thanks!

...pretty much the same me and some friends did for the Maiden show, then! Any chance to steer clear from TicketBastard is fine by me (ebay is good too but I'd rather not...). I've been raped plenty of times by Ticketbastard and I'll do whatever possible to avoid them. I'm on the mailing list from Rush.com so I'll hang tight then...so does anyone know for sure if tomorrow is going to be the tourdate release day!?!??!

JMR
#62 - Posted 3/18/07 @4:05PM by CJ [contact]

What sucks is the redrocks show goes on sale in 13 days which leads me to believe that there wont be a presale for that show. I really want to see that show and really dont want to deal with ticketmaster oh well I guess well have to wait and see.
