Rush Replay X 3 is here!
Posted at 09:18 AM | comments (22)

UPDATE - 6/13@11:13AM: According to a couple of threads at The Rush Forum the "bonus CD" is not a separate CD. The songs are tacked on the end of the Grace Under Pressure CD. It still hasn't been verified as to whether these 4 extra tracks are actually "exclusive" to Best Buy. 1:26PM: The bonus tracks are indeed "exclusive" to Best Buy. 8:22PM: Check out the comments for this post; Eric from Power Windows has offered up a lot of cool background info on the 4 bonus tracks. Also check out his site to see his new Rush Replay theme. Thanks Eric!

Today is the day. Rush Replay X 3 is released in the US. If you haven't ordered your copy yet, the best deal going yet is at Best Buy. The price is $24.99 (plus applicable sales tax) and it looks like you get a 4-song bounus CD with your purchase. The bonus CD contains audio versions of Limelight and Closer to the Heart from the Exit ... Stage Left DVD and The Spirit of Radio and Tom Sawyer from the A Show of hands DVD. There are no reports yet from anyone who has actually received this bonus CD yet; we're just going on what Best Buy claimed in their Sunday paper ad insert. See this post for more discussion on the various offers.

A few lucky souls have already obtained their copy. It looks like some Target and Wal-mart stores had them out on the shelves a little early. From comments on the various message boards, it looks like there are no huge surprises. The general consensus so far is that the sound quality is excellent and that the Grace Under Pressure CD track list does in fact mirror the DVD tracklist exactly. As far as easter eggs go, early reports are claiming that there are none. This is a big disappointment to me if true. I'm still holding out hope though. I'll keep you posted as I find out more. And if you've already gotten your copy, please share your opinions in the comments.

To clarify the Best Buy version. Copies purchased at Best Buy have a special version of the Grace Under Pressure audio disk, which includes four undocumented bonus tracks tacked onto the end of the disk. The printed tracklist matches the DVD, with no mention of the bonus tracks at all other than the sticker on the wrapper. According to Anthem Records, these tracks are from the Exit Stage Left and A Show of Hands soundtracks, although one of the tracks, "Closer To The Heart", was included on both previously released CD versions. I haven't heard it yet to determine what version of Closer is the bonus, but obviously if it has the extented jam, its from ASOH...

Lots of people were hoping for "Lock and Key" to be included as an Easter Egg. I've been told that producer Pierre Lamoureux, who worked on the DVD package, said that he was not he wasn't even aware of Lock and Key being previously available on the Laserdisc.

Thanks for the info!
I've also been reading on the boards that those people who are buying the DVD at Circuit City have been having trouble getting the "free poster" promised; apparently not all stores have them in stock. Call first I guess.

Just got back from Music World in Canada, Toronto and got the new package. Good price at 31.00 CAN. Nice packaging.
Nice tourbooks. Nice GUP Audio disk also. No poster and not sure about the extra tracks...at work now...will listen in the car on the way home! Rush On!

Amazon shipped mine yesterday and it's on its way - but it doesn't look like I'll be getting it until tomorrow. :(
The more I think about it, the less inclined I am to also get the Best Buy version. I wasn't too excited about the GUP audio CD in the first place - so 4 extra tracks that are just audio versions of songs on the DVDs doesn't seem like a good reason to have 2 copies.
I was really holding out hope for some easter eggs though. Has anyone done a thorough search for any yet?

Easter eggs could make the difference for me Ed!

I didn't but it today. One side of my brain is impressed while the other is starting to get hungry!!

Here's the details on the bonus tracks. The four bonus tracks are from the Exit Stage Left and A Show of Hands video soundtracks, three of which were previously not available on vinyl or CD: "Limelight" was previously available on King Biscuit Flower Hour's Best of the Best: 25 Years of Rock (live). Note: the version of "Closer To The Heart" included here was recorded during the Moving Pictures tour, the version found on the ESL album was recorded during the Permanent Waves tour (with the "Glaswegian Chorus"!).

"Limelight" (ESL video soundtrack)
"Closer To The Heart" (ESL video soundtrack)
"The Spirit Of Radio" (ASOH video soundtrack)
"Tom Sawyer" (ASOH video soundtrack)

RUSHX3 soundtrack is awesome, like one of the best like it is different to hear the difference between asoh and the gp tour as well,it is awesome, also to let some of you people know that during the grace under pressure tour the second song on the tour was subdivisions but they didn't show that on the dvd sad,but other then that it is awesome dvd all three dvd's/cd,hope everyone is enjoying it as much as i am?

OK...have listened to the audio CD in the car today up to Closer to the Heart. This show rocks. I know first of all that the version (exetended jam) of closer is not the one from ASOH. This extended jam version must be from the show in 84 on the GUP tour. I remember that show since I was at my peak of Rushdom and was at all 3 nights at the Gardens in TO. This version has different guitar riffs on the exd bit and alex plays right through. The ASOH version, Geddy plays the bass line through a few bars before alex comes in. So...more later on the way home. Rush on!

ESL Video was run last night on my buds theatre system. WOW...have not seen that in years and the video to digital transfer looks great..grainy yes but captures the Rush concert of that era. They were such stadium rockers in those days. You can tell it was Canada in 81 due to all the hockey shirts, Rush shirts and lumber jackets. LOL.
Great show..blew me away!

Got it yesterday! I've only had a chance to listen to first half of GUP so far and I'm blown away by the sound quality; amazing. Alex did a great job.

why isnt YYZ listed on the ASOH tourbook or songlist but it is played like right after territories it should say

YYZ/The Rhythm Method i just find that odd
#21 - Posted 06/15/2006 4:52 PM by xanadu2112 [contact]

some of the sounds is slightly delayed like in red barchetta in ESL and my drummer friend says you cant here snare hits in one part of primemover

Have purchased dvd, and will be disappointed if there's no easter eggs! Watching "A Show Of Hands" and sound clarity is amazing in 5.1!
