I see blue.lol.

The Classic Rock magazines are not hard to find.

For anyone that lives in North America, it takes at least one to two months for the current edition of Classic Rock magazine (which is a UK publication) to appear on book shelves as an import.

Also the magazine is not that cheap to buy.

I appreciate the UK fans sending in the scans that we all want to see which cuts to the chase. :)

Even Classic Rock can't get the "Moving Pictures" release year correct? Geez. 1981, jackasses.
#6 - Posted 7/27/10 @12:43PM by My Counterpart [contact]

Was cool except for the misinformation! Moving Pictures came out in 81 and it was a five-year hiatus, not seven. Idiots.
#7 - Posted 7/27/10 @1:15PM by rosc [contact]

Twilight of their career??!! WTF???

Classic Rock Magazine should get their head out of their ass and out of the past and look to see Rush is still very much "in the present tense"
#8 - Posted 7/27/10 @4:39PM by random_sample [contact]

#7-
I havent read the article yet,so I haven't seen the context of what was said, but I wouldn't get your back up about it. Remember ,the guys in Rush are approaching 60 years old, so really, saying it's the "twilight of their career" probably isn't too far off and doesn't have to be taken as an insult. Most people retire from "regular" jobs at either 55 or 65 and what Rush does (as in touring) is probably not getting any easier as they get older. They aren't superhuman.
#5,6-
I agree. I get annoyed when I see writers get facts wrong, too.
#9 - Posted 7/27/10 @4:39PM by random_sample [contact]

p.s:
I already asked this in the last thread but got no reply.
Does anyone know the sales figures for Snakes and arrows, by any chance?
#10 - Posted 7/27/10 @5:34PM by KenNJ [contact]

off topic but i don't imagine a thread opening up for this one so.... just got my vip package. how could alex's pic not have been mentioned yet? is that him? he has always been "the nutty one" but that one takes the cake.
#11 - Posted 7/27/10 @5:39PM by KenNJ [contact]

also..i picked large for my vip shirt and as usual i guessed wrong. sometimes x large rush shirts fit and sometimes large rush shirts fit me.

anyone out there with a x large that guessed wrong want to make an exchange?
#12 - Posted 7/27/10 @5:45PM by RushFanForever [contact]

random_sample this is the only sales figures I have seen for the "Snakes & Arrows" album.

From the CIRA - Canadian Recording Industry Association website:

As of Sept 2007 the album has sold 50,000 Gold units in Canada.

link

It isn't listed on the RIAA - Recording Industry Association of America website. So this means that it may not have sold in the 100,000 units bracket or more.
#13 - Posted 7/27/10 @7:25PM by random_sample [contact]

#12-
Yeah, the most recent thing I could find was that it sold 93,000 copies initially (soon after being released) and after that, I can't see any information. So I was really curious at this point where it's at sales numbers wise. Obviously downloading and all of the other competing types of media ,etc etc have changed things, but Im still really curious about this. Oh well, doesnt seem like the information is available.
#14 - Posted 7/27/10 @7:27PM by random_sample [contact]

#12-
You could be right, though..that it hasn't passed the 100,000 mark yet and that's why it wouldn't appear on the RIAA. If it was at 93,000 initially though, thats only 7,000 more copies it would have had to sell to make it to 100,000...since around 2007-2008.
#15 - Posted 7/27/10 @8:43PM by Wool [contact]

#11 I guessed right this time on size. Plus, I am a bit bigger now. But, that shirt is plum damn ugly. Either put a concert t-shirt in the VIP package or forget it. All the other stuff I already had. It's like the VIP packages are for NEW RUSH fans now......oh well, it was my choice to buy the VIP which scored a front row seat. I'll shut up now. I am off to drink lots of beer and stare at my ugly shirt. Geez!!!
#16 - Posted 7/27/10 @8:44PM by kevin [contact]

Check Itunes sales, not sure any other metric matters?

nobody buys albums anymore except my weird neighbor who still uses his turn table, Ah the good ole days...
#17 - Posted 7/27/10 @8:55PM by random_sample [contact]

#16-
Not sure if you were referencing my post or not. Your post was a little confusing. Anyway, if you were..I wasn't referring to "albums" literally in the vinyl format. I meant how many "units" (if that word works better) of Snakes and arrows have been sold. Obviously you can't say "nobody" buys albums, cd's (whatever, downloaded version) anymore, if initially 93,000 were sold. Personally, I've bought every Rush release ,regardless of downloading being available.
#18 - Posted 7/27/10 @10:42PM by choose freewill [contact]

just heard BU2B on XM radio on the Boneyard channel about a half-hour ago.. SWEET! DJ said album won't be out til next year but they're smart they know they're hot right now with the doc and all so they released a couple songs.. said they've been playing Caravan on the channel but didn't know if anyone had played the other one yet.. "but I am!" Nice.
#19 - Posted 7/27/10 @11:19PM by drmike [contact]

#16 On a recent trip to Canada, I walked into a music shop. Seems they are competing with downloaded music by selling vinyl LP's again (at $45 a pop). I know there are vinyl collectors out there....
#20 - Posted 7/28/10 @6:05AM by kevin [contact]

#16 Understood. I wasn't referring to Vinyl, I was referring
to total album sales and downloads. Again I think Itunes
and downloads of individual songs really complicates understanding sales. I downloaded 5 songs from S&A and 3 from Vapor Trails. Where is that calculated?
#21 - Posted 7/28/10 @7:30AM by mysticbeat [contact]

Finally got both of our VIP swag pkgs. I think the shirt is pretty cool. The guitar pick magnet is nice as well, does that replace the water bottle that did not come? The picks kept falling out so I creatively engineered them with little pieces of tape underneath to hold them in. For the S&A tour, we got the extra things with those tickets as well, although it was not called VIP. Anyhow, those shirts were not exactly the tour shirts, but they did have the S&A logo on the front, but nothing on the back, so I did not care for them. I would rather have something like these shirts, and we can get the tour shirts at the venue. Also, my significant other does not like to wear black T shirts, so the charcoal color is great. OK TMI, as we continue our long wait until Sept.
#22 - Posted 7/28/10 @8:18AM by Red Comet [contact]

#21 awesome that you got your stuff, hopefully I get mine today..naybe :/ that water bottle you were referring to was packaged with a black time machine tour shirt that was available to purchase in conjunction with the ticket purchases but if you want to get that shirt/bottle package go to livenation shop search artist for Rush and there it is
#23 - Posted 7/28/10 @10:12AM by mysticbeat [contact]

Oh okay, I must have been cornfused. Am fine with the other stuff, so no problemo :) Hope you gets yours soon!
#24 - Posted 7/28/10 @12:02PM by RUSHHEADDAVID [contact]

Off topic...

I just got off of the Livenation site after buying the shirt that SHOULD have came in the VIP package. I got to the check-out page, and what do I see? $8.31 for shipping!!! At most it should only be $4.50 (that's including their cost on supplies). I hope Rush finds different company to do business with in the future.

RUSH ON...
#25 - Posted 7/28/10 @1:36PM by Red Comet [contact]

I got my package! yay
#26 - Posted 7/28/10 @2:11PM by drmike [contact]

#24 When you purchase stuff by mail, most companies charge shipping and handling--the handling being the cost of paying someone to package it, address it and get it to the shipper. Any company Rush would get to handle merchandising will do the same thing and $8.31 is a lot less than some companies charge. Unfortunately, one of the realities of shopping by mail.
#27 - Posted 7/28/10 @3:42PM by I love Rush [contact]

Still have not gotten my vip stuff!!! Maybe I'll give it to the end of the week since some folks recently got their goodies.......
#28 - Posted 7/28/10 @4:49PM by 1-2-bucklemyshoe [contact]

I just got my VIP package today, one week after the Philadelphia show for which I bought the ticket.

My poster was a little bent up, but still presentable. At first I was disappointed, thinking it would be a Clockwork Angels design (it did say "collectible tour poster, limited edition, numbered") but it appears it was not to be.

Could this be a left-over from the actual Fly By Night tour? I somehow doubt it since the eyes of the owl have "starman" pupils...

Could it be a special poster made for this tour?

I would be curious if the "numbered" part is legitimate or did everyone actually get a different number? If not, perhaps this is just a copy of a lithograph.

My number is...

717/3500
#29 - Posted 7/28/10 @6:26PM by dssnhopper [contact]

#9: I've been curious, myself. I'm one of those guys that likes to brag about the band, so I'd love to see Vapor Trails and S&A go gold (platinum, if possible); thus extending the consecutive gold/platinum albums ranking.
#30 - Posted 7/28/10 @6:32PM by Archimer [contact]

#28 -- The "Fly By Night" poster in the VIP packages confuses the heck out of me. I mean, I loved "Fly By Night," but this tour has little to do with that album. The Starman pupils are something that I didn't catch in the pictures I've seen... I guess that's kinda neat?
#31 - Posted 7/28/10 @7:48PM by random_sample [contact]

#29-
Yeah me too. I would have to check ,but I thought Vapor Trails had gone gold ,but the last information I could see on Snakes and arrows was it sold 93,000 initially, then after that I can't see any information. Gold is 100,000 units in the states, right?
#32 - Posted 7/28/10 @7:49PM by random_sample [contact]

Or is gold sales of 500,000 + ?

Thanx #33 for that imfo. Does anyone know where to find attendance numbers for the current and past tours?
Happy early birthday Geddy!

#28- my poster is numbered 531/3500, by the way.

#30- The package contains the vintage Rush t-shirt as well as the Fly by Night poster to coincide with the Doc-Beyond the lighted Stage. It also contains new music with the tour program to go with the past, present and future themed
Time Machine tour.
Let me also say; Happy Birthday Geddy! :o}

#33 You should point out those figures are U.S. sales only. One source of info does not contain worldwide sales.
