Official Rush Time Machine Tour photos now available for purchase
Posted at 10:08AM | comments (53)

UPDATE - 8/6@8:30AM: They've made some changes to their pricing scheme and are now offering several photo packages for sale along with 5x7 prints starting at $20. All the photos come with a watermark displaying when and where that photo was taken, but John has been uploading non-watermarked versions of the photos as well for those who would rather not have the watermark.

I'd mentioned this in both of the Rush Time Machine Tour open threads over the weekend, but thought I'd rehash for those who had missed it. Rush's official tour photographer and pyrotechnician John Arrowsmith has been regularly posting his fantastic tour photos for each show to the Rush.com Multimedia: Rush on the Road section. Due to popular demand, high quality prints of these photos are now available for purchase at this link. You can buy the photos in a variety of sizes and finishes starting at $40. Many thanks to Rush and John for making these available.

you people and your "I'm first" posts, are you 8 years old? Or are you just a douche? Is this the one time in your pathetic life that you get to feel like a winner? Sorry for being so harsh, I'm just getting sick of seeing these posts. Rush fans are normally not this juvenile.
#5 - Posted 7/26/10 @10:25AM by kevin [contact]

Sorry Boys, I will have to pass on this offer. If I buy anything else this year I will need the boys to help out with my divorce fee's *L*

BTW Seems like they are really cranking out the merchandise!
I'm waiting on the action figures and the Rush Toothbrush :)
#6 - Posted 7/26/10 @10:33AM by 1-2-bucklemyshoe [contact]

It does see like $40 is a little steep for one photo, but I guess it might be worth it if your only other option is low resolution cell phone photos.
#7 - Posted 7/26/10 @10:50AM by 1-2-bucklemyshoe [contact]

#4 -- You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I must say that I have been following this blog for about 4 years now and the "firsts" and "seconds" have been a staple here at RIAB. Personally, I don't find them annoying at all.

I would also point out, to put a positive spin on it, that something new is posted here on a daily basis, and often, several times a day. That provides that many more opportunities for comments from the fans, hence more frequent "firsts" and "seconds."

Rather than being juvenile, I would propose that this reflects the fact that Rush fans are so completely devoted to their boys (and to this fantastic blog) that they want the world to see that they are eagerly awaiting the latest news from Rush-land.

Further, it might also be a collective and subconscious acknowledgment that Rush is the "first" band in the world, "second" to none and "third" because... well, because there are three of them.

Finally, I would conclude by saying that some (like yours truly) like to express themselves in long-winded ways and others use more concise expressions. To each his own

oh, by the way: 8th!!!
#9 - Posted 7/26/10 @10:53AM by drmike [contact]

With the quality and quantity of pictures put up by fans, I don't see any need to purchase "official" Rush photos.

#5 Haven't seen the action figures yet but the bobblesheads are back. (But, wow!, a Rush Toothbrush would be amazing! lol)
#10 - Posted 7/26/10 @10:59AM by MMCXII

....or right click and save. a savings of over forty dollars!
#11 - Posted 7/26/10 @11:02AM by drmike [contact]

#7 Hmmm. So that's what I'm doing when I call out "FIRST!". Nice to know that. For those who don't like it, it's easy to ignore the first few posts, just like you ignore the header and the "Please leave a comment" message. Personally, as an almost-50 yr old, I like to act juvenile every chance I get--especially at the Rush show, jumping up and down and yelling like a kid!
#12 - Posted 7/26/10 @11:41AM by timintey [contact]

40 bucks???!!! Wow! Do you have to wait over 3 months to receive these as well... ;)
#13 - Posted 7/26/10 @11:45AM by Diego [contact]

I was hoping there would be a 4x6 print at a cheaper price but not so. $40 seems way too much for any photo but I have to admit that the Chicago show has one outstanding photo, it is 7th in the series or ORD13. I'm wondering if ORD is in reference to O'Hare airport's code. It would be a fun method of labeling given Rush's YYZ.
#14 - Posted 7/26/10 @11:59AM by ghost__rider [contact]

$40 too much for a Rush photo? Get a grip!

I will admit it is tempting to buy the photo of me from SPAC (LUVGEDDY) but $40 is quite a bit. But, hey, Christmas is just right around the corner! (haha)
#16 - Posted 7/26/10 @12:25PM by josh7598 [contact]

Now they're selling the pictures? Jeezoo. Maybe they should change the opening video from "Rash" to "Cash: the real story of Rush"!! Hahahahahaha. Okay, now you can all start crucifying my!
#17 - Posted 7/26/10 @12:38PM by kevin [contact]

#10 LOL, That was clever..

Hey maybe they will do the low budget movie like Kiss did?

I think arguably the Kiss movie was the worst production
anything ever, period.....L
#18 - Posted 7/26/10 @12:48PM by Diego [contact]

I agree that $40 is quite a bit for an 8x10 photo and good seats for the live show are expensive too. However you can get into the venue for a decent price and hear the band just fine. Also, the two latest tunes could be easily downloaded for just $2.29 and the new documentary DVD can be purchased for $16.99 at Amazon. Their music is easily obtained and can be experienced live at a reasonable price considering the going rate for live shows. Their music is honest and as long as it remains so I don't mind them cashing in where they can.

Off topic - Rocco finished dead last at the Canadian Open. Certainly couldn't be due to the hat, right?
#21 - Posted 7/26/10 @1:45PM by The Sphere [contact]

At least Rocco made the cut.

i own kiss meets the phantom of the park yes i do
#23 - Posted 7/26/10 @2:12PM by Alexfan [contact]

Calling "First", "Second", or "Third" is part of the schtick around here.

Anyone who doesn't get that should probably have a couple of silly pills and start trying to do it themselves.

It's not that easy... LOL.
#24 - Posted 7/26/10 @2:14PM by Alexfan [contact]

Did anyone see Rocco with the hat?
#25 - Posted 7/26/10 @2:36PM by drmike [contact]

#15 Ya, that has to be tempting. It used to be illegal to use pictures of identifiable people without their consent. You should be getting royalties for each one they sell IMHO (Maybe you should ask them about that...maybe they'll offer you a free print).

#12 HILARIOUS!

#16 Good one. No crucifying on this thread (All crucifixion will take place in the Jones Beach Open Thread.)

#19 Thanks for the heads up. I was waiting for the interview to show up.
#26 - Posted 7/26/10 @3:11PM by hermy [contact]

#19....It's a great interview!.....except for the weird-o writing in a 125:24.......
#27 - Posted 7/26/10 @3:12PM by iluvgeddy05 [contact]

#25: My father said the same thing.. but I did verbally consent to him taking my photograph so not sure where that fits in legally.
#28 - Posted 7/26/10 @3:15PM by drmike [contact]

#10 I'm absolutely stunned that right clicking on these photos wasn't disabled (of course, hitting prt sc then pasting into a paint program would still work).
#29 - Posted 7/26/10 @3:43PM by random_sample [contact]

Im #29!! woooo!! Oh,thats just for the first few posts...umm ,nevermind....

Ok,so these pictures are $40 for "various sizes"...isn't the size kind of a factor, here? To me, $40 for an 8"x10" is kind of steep, but for a larger size ..not. Depends what size you get.
#30 - Posted 7/26/10 @3:50PM by exit...stage left [contact]

#13...ORD is in fact the airport code for chicago o'hare international...i know...i work as a subcontractor to the FAA...by the way I'm #30...muhahahahahaha!
#31 - Posted 7/26/10 @4:05PM by Habs2112 [contact]

I'm not gonna hold any punches on this one...$40 for one picture is outrageous. I have spent over a grand on tickets, more on merch and still getting stuck with this kick in the ass. I can buy an entire concert on blue ray for less than $30 but one picture is $40? Or even looked at in the context of tickets, I could see another show from good seats or get 4 still pictures...not a hard choice for me...and like many Rush fans I have the money to spend, but know when I'm being ripped off.
#32 - Posted 7/26/10 @4:25PM by drmike [contact]

#31 I also won't be buying a $40 picture either (if it comes framed, it might be worth it). But If I were iluvgeddy05, I'd be tempted to buy the license plate pic, or Kelly D et al. in the front row with Alex fawning over me, then it might be worth it.

Right clicking will get you the pic but be aware that photo places ask you if the pic is copyrighted.... don't know what happens if they catch you printing copyrighted material (like they'd call the cops!)
#33 - Posted 7/26/10 @5:01PM by driven2theedge [contact]

#33 here (does that mean I'm Kareem Abdul-Jabbar? LOL) I'm with most of you that $40 for one still pic is too much money but part of what you're paying for is the phoitogs "name" and his access to the band to the type of pics the rest of us can't get. Not worth it to most of us, but to some folks it may very well be.
#32 I'm with you, if it's framed that might make it worth the expendature.
#34 - Posted 7/26/10 @5:08PM by cpb [contact]

#32: BEWARE! People who work at photo places will like so TOTALLY CALL THE COPS if you try to print copyrighted photos! I'm being like way way serious. As evidence, I submit...

#35 - Posted 7/26/10 @5:37PM by drmike [contact]

#34 lol Maybe we should just deputize those Walmart photo process people, give them guns and authorize them to stop people breaking copyright laws at all costs.
#36 - Posted 7/26/10 @5:39PM by KenNJ [contact]

Nobody is putting a gun to your head. If you want a nice memory of your show to hang on the wall, I say go for it. It's not like they stopped half way through TCE and passed the plate before they would start up again.
#37 - Posted 7/26/10 @6:16PM by Mr. K

#5 I'm waiting for the latest Geddy Lee Fender bass, with the pearloid inlays on the fretboard... that can't be too far away.
#38 - Posted 7/26/10 @6:23PM by Ricbass4003 [contact]

#4 - you win! I am both a douche and 8 yrs old. LOL.

and I am Number 38!!!

15 & 25 - It probably has on the back of the tickets about giving consent for any pics taken so they must be covered.

#5 & 37 - I'd love a plush RUSH beach towel!
#39 - Posted 7/26/10 @6:24PM by katskahnne [contact]

As someone who used to earn money doing both concert and promo/still photography, I won't argue the relative merits of $40 for an 8x10. Bottom line is I just can't afford it. If money were no object I'd be all over it.
#40 - Posted 7/26/10 @6:25PM by kevin [contact]

#36 True, but come on they have really ramped up on the merchandising. But you know what these guys have always been
very smart business men and obviously are very responsible with their coinage. They are a well oil machine at this point
with very good people around them and they are very rich men. Good for them! It couldn't happen to better people.

BTW Any chance they get their own PEZ dispenser? LOL
#41 - Posted 7/26/10 @6:35PM by Rob [contact]

Loving what you're doing......YES

Artistic freedom........YES

Making as much money as you can......YES

Being a band for forty odd years...a part of that is being a business.

it's as simple as that.
#42 - Posted 7/26/10 @6:54PM by Mr. K

#38 - You cannot go wrong with a plush beach towel.

*** TICKET FOR SALE @ FACE VALUE ***
RED ROCKS 2nd SHOW 8/18/10

I have 1 row 6 ticket seat 94 that I'm selling for face value ($129). It's a will call only ticket, so if you're interested, we'll have to meet before the show to make the exchange.

Contact me for details. It would be a shame if a row 6 Rush ticket went unused!
#44 - Posted 7/26/10 @8:00PM by Mr. K

#38 - Can I get a new Rush compilation CD with my plush beach towel?

Oh wait... I guess I can...
#45 - Posted 7/26/10 @9:02PM by mark one [contact]

im number 2 and 45 in the same day and i still found time to cut the grass and clean the pool. waiting for sept 2
#46 - Posted 7/26/10 @11:57PM by double-agent [contact]

I would pay forty bucks for some of Petie's pics of Geddy....poster-sized! Her pics are amazing!
#47 - Posted 7/27/10 @9:36AM by A Symptom Of Life [contact]

If you don't want to pay $40 for a photo, then you have to take that extra step like me. Pony up the cash and buy the VIP Licensed ticket. Drive nearly 900 miles in one day to the show. Get in line over 8 hours before the gates open and be the third one in and up against the barrier at a rare general admission show. Have a damn good camera such as a Canon Powershot S90. Look for the photos by "asymptomoflife" on the 9 July Sarnia gallery. Your own photos are the best souvenirs.
#48 - Posted 7/27/10 @10:30AM by Get up and go the distance [contact]

$40 is not too much to pay for a great quality photo, but I simply can't afford it. I'll be making do with my $19.99 S&A tourbook, which has loads of fantastic pics. (I see they've lowered the price even more to $14.99 at the Rush Backstage Club now.) They'll probably have a great Tourbook of the Time Machine tour also.
#49 - Posted 7/28/10 @3:17PM by Paradiddle [contact]

Just a word of warning to people - the writing that appears on the photos on the site also appears on the photos you buy. I thought that it was just a digital watermark for the website to keep people from copying and printing themselves. I love my picture, but I would have preferred it without the text at the bottom. I'm trying to find out if there's any way to get them without it - I'll post if I learn anything.

On the positive side, I received the photo in only 2 days! If only the Rush VIP swag shipped that fast...still waiting on that 7 days AFTER the show's over...
#50 - Posted 7/28/10 @5:03PM by heavymeister [contact]

Excuse me, but the photographic quality of these John Arrowsmith photos is not that great at all. And not worth 40 bucks at all. The fact that members of Rush are pictured does not make it necessarily a good photo. At least I could not find a single one that I would hang on any of my walls as photographic art.
#51 - Posted 7/28/10 @5:28PM by savage1 [contact]

Hello. I agree with #50- these are not anywhere close to MacNaughtan quality shots. I only stop for the best. Thanks.
#52 - Posted 7/29/10 @10:10PM by PetieLee [contact]

#46: Thanks! :) Happy you like my Rush concert pix!

I bought the Arrowsmith Time Machine Tour print where mommy_of_zuzu, KellyD and I appear in Saratoga Springs, NY. I love it! Shipped really fast too! I can take a picture of Geddy but I sure as heck can't take a picture of me taking a picture of Geddy! *tee hee hee* This print is priceless to me. Forty bucks is a quite a bargain for this shot!!! :)

Love da Geddy! Miss da Geddy! Next stop: Auburn, WA!!! ♥
#53 - Posted 8/2/10 @7:43PM by That other guy

I'll have to agree will all from #49 and up.
For one, the "watermark", good I suppose on one had as a souvenir type thing but it would be nice to have the option of purchasing without.
I'm not sure about $40 either though, most of those photos of the band are crap, I could probably take better pics with my point and click if only they'd let me on stage.

I wonder if Arrowsmith has set the prices for these since he's the "photographer" or was it a band thing?

How much would you pay for one of these so called photographic art pics?
