have an awesome legal nonsense-free show!!!
#4 - Posted 7/11/10 @1:14PM by Armeee [contact]

Any RIAB fans with gold circle seats have access to the private bar at the side of the stage. I believe its the Metropolitan GC area.

My buddy and i will probably be their about 6:30..... hope to see some of you there.

my bro-in-law is doing some of the WI FI for Bluesfest and saw Neil just before soundcheck around noon hour. Even got a lil nod from him.

He brought his camera (which is probably worth more than my car) and promised me some great pics with his "all access" badge.

Weather is freekin' beautiful.... gonna be a night to remember!

To everyone on RIAB

I just wanted to post this to let people know this is my last post on this site.

I just cannot "ride along down the same road this site is going".

Most of the people on this site are wonderful...Lance, Petie, Kelly, Spindrifter, Mr Driven, etc (Rats)...I love ya to death. But lately this site has been taken over by people who have nothing better to do than to look for people with different ideas or opinions than theirs...then "bash them"..and I cannot tolerate it anymore..the constant name-calling, politicizing everything (he must be republican/democrat)...when I started with this site...this stuff didn't exist..and it isn't how I like to converse with other Rush fans. I think the world of Ed...he's wonderful..and a friend as well...but I don't believe in living my life like many of these people on here do when it comes to discussing our favorite band...so for that reason I must depart.

To those of you I know....you have my cell phone number and email...keep me posted, and stay in touch.

With that....I bid you all farewell..

#5 - - MMB - - Amazing that you are letting a few bloggers drive you out of a website you seemed to enjoy. I for one as a so-called "newbie" have some observations:
I believe it is the very exclusivity of the so-called "long-timers" or "rats" that keeps some people away from the site. I understand the origins of the "rat" references but consider the actual definition of a rat:
Rat n 1:a gnawing animal with brown, black, white or grayish fur that looks like but is larger than the mouse 2 : a person who betrays friends
I think this definition describes the very people that are always negative on this site.

#5: Aw, we'll miss ya', man! :(

Some people get caught up in the ability to hide behind a username and have a field day saying stupid things that they'd never dream of saying to your face. It's sad that we can't all be mature and civil here.

For the most part, I think that the good outweighs the bad, here. It's a self-policing community from what I've seen: If somebody says something out-of-line, people are quick to point out that they should probably check their bitter tongues at the door.

#10 Thanks Entrenous for reminding me why I like coming to this website in the first place. I enjoy all the links and updates we get. It is amazing how much the quality of these bootleg videos have improved in just two years!

Very well said. I don't post very often, but, I check this site out daily. I just read the thread about the gentleman who is suing Rush. The personal attacks against this person truly amazed me.
The personal attacks against people who disagreed with the setlist (I'm included in this group) left me shaking my head.
Ed, you do a wonderful job in keeping us up to date on all things Rush. Thank you for all of your hard work. I will return when these "invisible airwaves crackle with life" and not personal attacks.

Sorry for this off-topic comment but there doesn't seem to be a way of starting new "threads" so here goes:
The Geddy Factor
Last night, at dinner with my 3 brothers and their wives the subject of Rush came up. Two of my brothers and their wives are bigtime Rush fans and we all went to the Albuquerque show together. My oldest brother, non-fan, brought up the fact that he likes the music but can't get used to "the Voice". Then my sister-in-law, married to non-fan, brought up Geddy's looks, unfavorably. One of my brothers pointed out that many women have mad crushes on Geddy. I said "Whatever "It" is, Geddy has "It"! He is unquestionably one of the coolest people on the planet! Now I have been to several concerts and I have sat far away from the stage and right up close. I have noticed that no matter where I am, Geddy has the uncanny abiity of making it seem he is looking right at you. He is like the Mona Lisa! My two brothers and their wives laughed and agreed that they have noticed this too. Just a silly observation!

#16- Funny and interesting post.
Personally, coming from a straight guy perspective,I can honestly say I think Geddy looks cool. Yeah, large nose ,etc. He STILL looks cool, to me. And "cool" (in my opinion anyway) isn't just about how someone LOOKS. As far as whether a woman finds Geddy "attractive" or hideous,or whatever...that is subjective. Personally, alot of the time , I don't find the typical barbie-doll (no offense to any women who have that look) look the most attractive. But getting back to the "cool" factor, there are people who try real hard , in fact it's obvious as hell that they are TRYING to be cool. The singer from Nickelback, for example. That guy tries way too hard to be cool...and it just doesn't work (haha).
I've also heard women comment about Geddy's looks and personally (even though I am obviously looking at him from a guy's perspective) I always thought he looked good. He's got a distinctive look. I could do without the soul patch and the same round sunglasses all the time, but hey...he can do what he wants.

I'm at the show right now and let me tell you it is scorching hot!!!
I will definitely post a fan based review on my blog along with some pics and video. I'll post the link here tomorrow.
I'm sitting on Ged's side almost all the way at the front of the stage!! Hav a good night to whoever is here with me on this beautiful night:)
Love a fellow rush fan
#21 - Posted 7/11/10 @5:43PM by random_sample [contact]

Just another quick thing I thought of, when it comes to the appeal of the guys in Rush to females. I think maybe part of the appeal is that most women admire integrity, loyalty and those types of qualities in men. I think those are qualities Alex, Geddy and Neil have in both their professional and private lives. Maybe Gene Simmons didn't understand and couldn't fathom why the guys in Rush weren't "bangin groupies" ,but I would guess it had something to do with the fact that that just wouldn't be them (not to mention they were all in relationships with their girlfriends/future wives). To some people (like me) that is part of Rush's "coolness".
And how can anyone not find the whole "2112/ we are doing things our way" thing to be one of the coolest rock stories?? Contrast that with a band (previously mentioned) like Nickelback , that writes and produces music completely based on mass market appeal. To me, they are the antithesis of what Rush is.
#22 - Posted 7/11/10 @5:53PM by rushsister [contact]

#21 You are exactly right, Random Sample, the trio are seemingly normal, albeit extremely talented men, who are faithful, loyal family men. That does definitely increase their appeal and my personal respect for them.
#23 - Posted 7/11/10 @5:57PM by rush is best f... the rest [contact]

You got that right Random Sample and as my name says...RUSH is best...
#24 - Posted 7/11/10 @6:08PM by Archimer [contact]

The members of Rush have all aged very well, for one. They haven't trashed their bodies like many rockers do. Also, as Random Sample said: Integrity is sexy. :) I dig the guys in Rush because they remind me of the man in my own life!
#25 - Posted 7/11/10 @6:15PM by double-agent [contact]

That's a huge reason why I love them! Alex was married at a very young age, 17 I think, since Charlene was pregnant, and Geddy married Nancy when he was 21-ish. One of the very early albums was dedicated to Nancy, Charlene and Jacqueline so Neil was with his wife early on as well. I remember reading that album sleeve dedication and thinking how sweet that was. I'm thrilled to hear that they didn't bang everything in sight like certain other disgusting rock stars. A faithful man is a sexy man IMO.
#26 - Posted 7/11/10 @6:29PM by kevin [contact]

In 78 -79 Era I was so enamored with Alex, he just looked like
the perfect musician to me. I had posters and pictures of him all over my room. I was only 10 but I was already a fan. Playing his double neck with his long blond hair he was my god. LOL
#27 - Posted 7/11/10 @6:30PM by Rob [contact]

#25 Alex had a kid at 17..but didn't marry until 1975.
#28 - Posted 7/11/10 @6:38PM by double-agent [contact]

#27 - Then it's even more admirable that he was faithful to the mother of his child, even without a marriage certificate. I do know that Neil and Jackie were only common-law married, but it really is just a piece of paper. Ask the married rock stars who still did the groupies while our boys stayed in their rooms watching TV.

#5 MMB...
I totally understand your feelings and decision. I am of the same opinion...which to some makes me "an idiot" or worse.
I scan RIAB several times a day, love the updates and appreciate Ed for his efforts. Oft times those that espouse tolerance seem to tolerate very little, especially if the opinion is different than their own.

All the best to you and yours.
#30 - Posted 7/11/10 @8:08PM by double-agent [contact]

Has anyone else been able to get on that live blog thing that RFF posted about with his newspaper article links?
#31 - Posted 7/11/10 @8:23PM by random_sample [contact]

#22-#27

Thats what I was getting at, with Rush and female fans (even though it's mostly male,I was commenting about the female ones).
Personally, Ive only met a few female Rush fans, but I just had this feeling that most female Rush fans are more discerning than the average female music listener. They appreciate things like integrity, creativity, loyalty.
Then ,there is the long marriages of all 3 of them ,which a few of you commented on, which of course appeals to women (and even other men, myself included).
#32 - Posted 7/11/10 @8:48PM by katskahnne [contact]

#16/19/21 SO true! Integrity IS appealing, and self-control, and compassion, and loyalty, all the traits they show. As far as the physical stuff...I like "uncommon" good looks. The real modelly "perfect" stuff just bores me. Always has. Who defines that look as "perfect" anyway...I think Geddy's nose is distinctive, he doesn't look like Mr Typical Rock Front Guy. I *like* that distinctiveness, I think it has depth, and the way he moves on stage (more energy than a lot of guys half his age!), etc. Neil has such distinctive eyes, to my thinking...and don't even get me started on Alex. Thought he was gorgeous "back in the day", think he's gorgeous now!! (That smile...!!!)

Have fun at the show tonight, everyone who's going! Gibson Amphitheatre a month from today...I know I can't wait!!!
#33 - Posted 7/11/10 @9:59PM by Distant Echoes [contact]

#16 A breath of fresh air around these parts! Geddy is the coolest guy in music period! I agree he does have the uncanny ability to relate to the audience...when ever one is lucky enough to be close enough, Geddy makes eye contact and makes you feel like he appreciates your presence.

Got a chance to meet him in Albuquerque...he was gracious, patient and kind. He signed autographs for all who wanted one, all I wanted was a handshake and a chance to thank him for all the great music...he told me "You got it" and showed a real appreciation for all us fans. I think one of the keys was our group acted civilized and didn't overwhelm him by appearing fanatical...it was clear he appreciated that approach.

#5 No one can run me away from RIAB..."no salutes for your surrender"

Endlessly Rocking!
#34 - Posted 7/11/10 @11:47PM by guitarmutt [contact]

Don't let the troll chase you away. The internet has lots of trolls, but they should not control how the internet runs. They should be pushed back down into their caves, systematically, one by one.

Civility can still win if civility is still shown to exist- - even in the face of the most uncivilised ugliness. You just keep on keeping on, and the stones will slowly wear away revealing something new. Most RIAB'ers show this most of the time.

Two steps forward, one step back, and so on, forward.
#35 - Posted 7/12/10 @1:16AM by lapirata2 [contact]

Not the right thread here but I just about died rotfl when Clint Eastwood told me I was beating a dead horse with my unhappiness with the middle half of Rush's first set song selection. I very rarely post but that was Well said guy!

I will still probably end up seeing them at Mohegan Sun next Monday. After all, they are Rush!

BTW, has anyone seen Maiden on this tour yet?

Nice job Ottawa! 25,000 crazy RUSH fans!I think Geddy was quite surprised of the size of the crowd.

I wish I could have been at the Ottawa Blues Fest to have seen Rush and the other band's. Thank you for the videos people and who was that joker with the hockey stick and starman banner, too funny and pretty cool~

I've been a member since May 12, 2007, does that make me a newbie? Although I hardly ever post and when I have said anything when I was drunk, just to crack up some jokes....cause it's good to laugh at life sometimes, can't we all get along?

I think the post are good when their is a debate about the band or the music. I think we get so involved with a silly blog about when Geddy is going to brush his teeth, etc.

Message boards and text are vague anyway's without real jester's and the like, but people do go overboard, we all do in our little way's. I think some people take blogging too serious. This message board should be fun discussing topics about RUSH. Their is alot of squabbing that's uncalled for, so we shouldn't let this turn into "the national midnight star", and that was before they called it blogging~lol~

Who Am I to point a finger, let's all get mellow~
#40 - Posted 7/12/10 @9:08AM by surge of adrenaline [contact]

Did I hear Geddy say "Don't swallow your TOES" in Stick it Out, last night?

I read somewhere he's been known to change some words just for fun. Just wondering if it was intentional or I'm just hearing things. Anyway I got a laugh out of that one.

It was an amazing concert.

#42 - Posted 7/12/10 @9:25AM by surge of adrenaline [contact]

#36, yes I did see Iron Maiden at Ottawa Bluesfest and I thought Dream Theatre who opened for them was better. And of course, I thought Rush was way better than the two of them. But of course, I am biased. I haven't bought an Iron Maiden album since the 80's. And if this was an Iron Maiden blog site, the comments would probably be reversed.
#43 - Posted 7/12/10 @11:01AM by timintey [contact]

So glad I went to a show early in the tour. The leaking of set list spoilers without warning is unbelievable...
#44 - Posted 7/12/10 @11:49AM by Armeee [contact]

Geddy was almost Giddy!
I think he was impressed with the size of the crowd.

Certainly glad I had VIP seats..... GA looked hot and forget about leaving to take a piss or get a beer. Lots of people passing out.

They did a great job of Moving Pictures.

A couple of disapointments!

No Alex rant during La Villa

Time Stand Still - ditch it

Video problems (especially during Neil's solo)

Finally, I read something earlier from Alex that they were possibly gonna play "Jacobs Ladder" .... didn't happen and I was floored.

Really enjoyed the comical intro's
#45 - Posted 7/12/10 @11:50AM by long awaited friend [contact]

Wow...is that 25,000 number I read in an earlier post correct?....if so this tour looks to be generating some pretty big attendence numbers especially in todays economy. We had close to 20,000 in Milw. last week which was quite a bit more than the 2 times they were here during S&A....great to see how many fans they are pulling in!
#46 - Posted 7/12/10 @11:53AM by Armeee [contact]

#43

Funny....... some clown in front of me was about to tell me the setlist. I said if he did I was wondering which eye would he like to watch the show with!
#47 - Posted 7/12/10 @11:58AM by Armeee [contact]

#45

Keep in mind alot of the 25000 have festival passes for the whole week. Not to say they wouldn't have had a great crowd...... but they also had 25000 for the B52's/Moody Blues a couple of nights ago.
#48 - Posted 7/12/10 @12:36PM by Distant Echoes [contact]

#36 *...saw Iron Maiden/Dream Theater...I agree DT was better... neither could hold a candle to Rush! Maiden seemed stuck in time, Rush moved through time , DT didn't get enough time!
#49 - Posted 7/12/10 @3:22PM by patrush

#48 DT is a bunch of show-offs! I saw them live in Oakland, when they played alongside with Three, and Opeth. Their music doesn't move me at all.
#50 - Posted 7/12/10 @6:16PM by Distant Echoes [contact]

#49 And some people don't "get" Rush as well...go figure! To each his own.
#51 - Posted 7/12/10 @6:33PM by weirdalok [contact]

My top three bands are as follows: Rush, Dream theater, Iron Maiden, its really a trip to be seeing all three of them in one summer! I went to the Denver show (mostly to see DT), there was construction everywhere, and most everyone was late to the show so unfortunately i missed their first song...

Coincidently Mike Portnoy stated in an interview that their original focus for the band was to be a mixture of Iron Maiden, and Rush. Very cool
#52 - Posted 7/12/10 @8:50PM by kevin [contact]

#47 Your probably right about attendance but there is just no denying numbers are up. I remember S&A In Raleigh in was like 6,900 and most of that had to do with the economy sucking eggs, I saw them a couple of years before and it was like 12,000 almost double.
#53 - Posted 7/13/10 @11:06AM by surge of adrenaline [contact]

#48, yes, your last line nailed it right on the head. At this Ottawa Bluesfest, DT didn't have time to showoff.

Back to Rush, Alex had a guitar problem for one song at this show, and that reminded me he had one too at the last Ottawa show for S&A. Coincidence?
