[Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage Trailer]

UPDATE - 4/23@1:11PM: It's now up on YouTube as well (thanks Vagner C):

----- snip -----

The long-anticipated Rush documentary Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage will have its US and world premier tomorrow at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City while the Canadian premiere will occur at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto next Thursday, April 29th. Earlier this week we learned that the documentary will get its television premiere on VH1 and VH1 Classic on June 26th, just a few days before the start of Rush's Time Machine Tour. On Wednesday Time Out New York posted a brief interview with Alex Lifeson where he discusses the documentary and a few other subjects. A couple of weeks ago two preview clips from the film appeared online. And now the official trailer has been posted online at MSN.com at this link. The trailer runs about 2:15 and contains a lot of great teaser footage. The documentary has been creating a lot of buzz and is one of the most talked about films at the Tribeca Film Festival. From a recent New York Post article (thanks Jordan M):

Would you believe that a doc about the Canadian trio is one of the most searched on the film festival's Web site? Talking heads, including Gene Simmons, Billy Corgan, Sebastian Bach, and Jack Black, talk about what the creators of "Tom Sawyer" mean to them.

The documentary also made V Magazine's list of the 25 must-see films at the festival (thanks Gary M):

Rush explores its namesake Canadian hard rockers in unabashedly fanatic detail, exposing the band's 40-year history both on and off the stage and featuring interviews from Billy Corgan, Gene Simmons, Jack Black and many of the band's devoted fans. Director duo Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn already have three metal documentaries to their credit (2005's Metal: A Headbanger's Journey; 2008's Global Metal; and last year's Iron Maiden: Flight 666), so even if you don't know your Rush from your Kiss to your Iron Butterfly, you can feel safe stage-diving headfirst into this latest effort.

And Katy Rich of Cinema Blend posted this review of the film yesterday.

For any RIABers who are attending the premiere tomorrow, reader ReGorLaTroy wanted me to let everyone know that there will be a pre-screening meet-up at The Molly Wee which is located at 30th and 8th.

That trailer was definitely a nice "tease". Looking forward to seeing this doc.
Is anyone who's going to see the premiere going to try a "Brody" from Seinfeld and bring in a video camera to make a bootleg of it? haha.

"What kind of band is Rush? ........IT'S RUSH!"

From 1:38 through to the end of TSOR I have to admit I got a little emotional.

An overwhelming feeling of pride and excitement shot through me.

"No you can't tell us what to do ....and no we don't care!"

.....and yet a documentary while the band is at their pinnacle doesn't quite seem right. They are still an ongoing "documentary in the making".

We all have such amazing memories of this band but I honestly feel the best is yet to come. These coming 18 months and whats beyond will be legendary.

So let's "get out there and rock" and see you in Albuquerque.

9 - hermy

That's just the way I felt!

Isn't it just like Rush to buck what's expected and have their documentary come out while they're revving up for another tour?!

I particulary liked the pictures of them as boys - very sweet!

I'm so hurt I didn't get tix to the premiere - but I think I'll go the 4/30 showing.

To everyone attending - have a blast!

re #8: subdivincent, I got goosebumps too!

This film is confirmation of what we've all known for so many years: Rush was - and still is - a band worth paying attention to.

It's safe to back a winner, but those of us who've stood up for Rush for all these decades are finally getting our requital.

Pleased. I am...pleased!

Yay!

Carry on.

See, Alex may not be comfortable wirth this kind of thing (or industry awards etc.) but for the fans it's really special. After all, Rush would not be Rush without all our unending support, decade after decade. This is something for all Rush fans to get excited about. I'm sure I'll get all teary eyed too. Can't wait.

You Geddicorns and Al-ex's might not agree....but the best part was the huge smile on Neil's face!

He didn't want to tour after Presto.........Presto! That was 20 years ago.

....and now we have at least 115 shows to look forward to.

ya know... I was reading the review by Katey Rich knowing she was not a fan and thinking, hmmm she seemed to approach it with an open mind. As I neared the end of the read I was still thinking... hmmmm not a bad review for a non fan... then sure enough--- the DAGGER(insult) had to be thrown.. she just could not complete the review without a heart piercing scorching hot dagger and says "If your Rush-loving friend drags you to see it, stick around-- you might get beyond Geddy Lee's screechy vocals and find something to love too." Go figure!

I was wearing my S&A shirt recently and someone said "You still like that old band? I remember when some of the kids at school were into them."

My response was along the lines of "Hell yeah! Not only still relevant, but still the coolest band in the world."

#9 Love Gene Simmons' comment also.
#19 - Posted 4/23/10 @11:48AM by LovLee [contact]

Hermy - I agree with you 100%

A smile on Neil's face is pricless...

I stand corrected.

Of all the crap that comes out of Genes mouth, that is a dead accurate description. You can't describe RUSH any better then that, as we all know there is no one else like

Wow! Definitely gave me chills too and had me smiling from ear to ear the whole time! What a great trailer! This looks like it's going to be a very fun film for all of us to see. I can't freaking wait!!

Can't wait to see it. One does like to believe in the freedom of music...

WAY awesome! ::smiling ear to ear:: You know, on discussion boards I still see some really ignorant, catty, and occasionally cruel remarks about the guys...but there are also those who stand up for them. Some who GET it. Nice to see Taylor Hawkins in the trailer - one of my other favorite drummers, hella nice guy, and I know a hardcore Rush fan for many years!

Oh, man. I'm gonna be smiling all day now. Thanks for sharing! I LOVE THIS BAND!!!

I didn't really think it was that "bad" of a review , really. Yeah,it's obvious she isn't very familiar with Rush and not a fan of them, but considering that, I didn't think she really was as insulting as some reviewers are.
The way I see it, some people like Rush, some people love them, then there are those who just don't like their music. It's subjective. I've never really been able to get into Led Zepplin, myself. I always knew they were huge and legendary, but for some reason ,their music (other than a few songs )has never appealed to me that much. Same goes for Rush's music. But ,Im almost certain that most people, even if they don't LIKE Rush's music, if they got a chance to see the three of them interviewed or learned about the them as people, even though they don't like their music, they would probably admit the guys in Rush are talented, good people with lots of integrity.

#4 LovLee - I thought that was priceless too! :D

To all the RIAB members that are going to the Tribeca Premiere... I can't wait to read your reviews. Have an AWESOME time!

I can't wait until the Toronto Premiere on April 29th! I was excited before but this trailer of the documentary added a whole new level of excitement for me!

So KEWL that Sam Dunn wore the Counterparts t-shirt while accepting his award at the Juno's - RIGHT ON!!!

PEACE...

Can't wait to see more of Alex's humor which will probably be abundant. The "chicks" answer made me laugh for a long time.
