Rush 2010 tour update: a few rumored dates/venues
Posted at 10:29PM | comments (157)

UPDATE - 3/13@10:42PM: I'm now hearing that the Casino Rama show won't be happening. There may have been discussions at some point, but as of right now it doesn't look likely. I'm crossing that one off the list. But to replace it, I'm adding the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. I've heard from a source at the venue that Rush will is tentatively scheduled to play there on July 19th.

UPDATE - 3/12@1:03PM: I have another one that I'm pretty sure of now: August 5th at the USANA Amphitheatre in Salt Lake City, UT. I added it below too.

UPDATE - 3/10@9:53PM: The PNC date is not correct. It's a mixup from the 2008 tour (they played there on the '08 leg on July 12th).

UPDATE - 3/10@8:36PM: Not so sure about that PNC date right now. I'll keep it, but with a question mark. Earlier I mentioned that they'd be starting in the Southwest. I'm starting to narrow that down and it looks like it'll be Albuquerque, NM. Not sure of the venue but I assume it's The Pavilion.

UPDATE - 3/10@4:27PM: According to rushdude38 who cites a venue source, there will be a show at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ on July 12th. I've added it below.

UPDATE - 3/10@10:57AM: It looks like the Atlanta opening in early June is unlikely to happen. I was a little hesitant about that information to begin with and now I'm hearing conflicting reports putting the opening date more towards mid-late June in the Southwest rather than the Southeast. The good news is that the rest of my information regarding Milwaukee, St. Louis, San Francisco and the Casino Rama seems to be pretty solid. They'll still probably hit Atlanta at some point but it looks like it'll be more towards the end of the tour. And for anyone worried about the Casino Rama date meaning that they won't play Toronto, don't be; I've heard that they are confirmed to play the Molson Amphitheatre but I'm not sure of the date yet. Speculating on the tour announcement; I don't expect any kind of tour announcement this week, but I think next week is a good bet - likely early in the week. I would anticipate an initial announcement that the tour is happening - probably with some general information (number of dates, duration, opening city, etc.). Then a week or so after that we'd get the full list.

UPDATE - 3/8@6:46PM: It looks like the major concert announcement from 103.5 The Arrow for tomorrow will be regarding Sting - not Rush.

And this just in! ... (added down below as well)

Aug 22nd: Verizon Wireless Amphitheater St. Louis - Maryland Heights, MO (outside St. Louis)

* This comes from a source at the venue (thanks lifesonfan). This is around the same time they played this venue on the 2007 tour. So it's starting to look like the tour route will be very similar to the '07 leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour.

----- snip -----

UPDATE - 3/8@2:22PM: This may be a bit of a stretch, but reader hermy noticed that the Xcel Energy Center had the date of July 5th grayed out on their calendar which means that the date is on hold. He confirmed this with the venue but they would not give any details as to who may be scheduled. Rush played the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, MN on both the 2007 and 2008 legs of the Snakes & Arrows tour and - assuming the July 3rd Summerfest date is confirmed - they'll be close by in Milwaukee just 2 days prior. Interesting...

In other news, Jason R let me know that Utah classic rock station 103.5 The Arrow is advertising a major concert announcement for tomorrow morning at 9AM EST. This of course could have nothing to do with Rush, but it's worth keeping an eye on I suppose.

----- snip -----

UPDATE - 3/8@11:28AM: Reader robertkincaid96 noticed that the Gwinnett Center Arena now has a show booked on June 6th (June 3rd and June 5th too) so if the opening show is at the Gwinnett Center it won't by on June 6th. Nothing is officially scheduled at Encore Park for June yet.

I've been gathering a few scraps of information regarding Rush's expected 2010 tour since my update on Friday. I'll first repeat what I'd mentioned on Friday; that I continue to hear from multiple reliable sources that the tour is happening, and have not heard any news to the contrary. The general consensus is that the North American portion of the tour will kick off in early-mid June and run through September - much like the 2007 leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour. Dates are still being finalized which is why we haven't had an announcement yet. There are also several side rumors that I'm less sure of including whether South America and/or Atlantic Canada will be included, whether the rumored European leg in 2011 will happen, whether the tour will contain some kind of nod/celebration to the 30th anniversary of Permanent Waves and whether the tour will kick off in the Southeast US (more on this below). Those are all rumors I've heard but have not been able to corroborate. Remember, these rumors did not materialize out of nowhere; Alex Lifeson kicked off the tour rumors back in September when he said hopefully by next summer, [Rush would] be ready to tour in this NoiseCreep.com interview. Since then, both Geddy Lee and Neil Peart have chimed in with similar statements. And let's not forget that back in December several major radio stations across the country ran contests to promote the release of the Working Men live compilation and gave away chances to win tickets to Rush's next tour. And at the end of January 105.7 WAPL out of Appleton, WI announced on the air that Rush would be playing Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 3rd. They even had a page up on their website promoting the event that has since been taken down. Radio stations do not do this kind of thing unless they have been given some kind of assurance that a band will be touring. I know and understand that everyone is getting a little antsy for an announcement, but to put things in perspective - the dates for the 2007 Snakes & Arrows tour were not announced until March 26th with tickets going on sale the following day. The only official mention of a tour prior to that occurred on February 14, 2007 with the official announcement of the Snakes & Arrows album - and all they said at that time was on tour this summer. details coming soon. So we still may be waiting a couple weeks before we get any official tour dates, although I'm hoping to get some leaked dates prior to that. Speaking of which, here a few of the scraps of information I spoke of earlier:

June ?? (mid-late June): tour kick-off in Albuquerque, NM - The Pavilion? (unsure of the venue)

June 6th: Verizon Wireless Amphitheater at Encore Park - Alpharetta, GA OR Gwinnett Arena - Duluth, GA

They'll still probably hit Atlanta at some point but it looks like it'll be more towards the end of the tour.

* It looks like they are/were attempting to book the Alpharetta show as the opening date on the tour but ran into potential scheduling conflicts. So the Gwinnett Arena was one alternative venue they were looking at. If the conflicts could not be worked out, it's likely they would still kick-off the tour somewhere in the Southeast US at some other venue, but this may still end up being the opening date.

July 3rd: Summerfest - Milwaukee, WI

* As I'd mentioned above, at the end of January 105.7 WAPL out of Appleton, WI announced on the air that Rush would be playing Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 3rd. They prematurely announced the show and even had a page up on their website promoting the event for a short time. I was informed by sources at the venue that this date has indeed been confirmed, although there has still been no official announcement.

July 19th: Mohegan Sun Arena - Uncasville, CT

*I've heard from a source at the venue that Rush will is tentatively scheduled.

July ??: 2 shows at the Casino Rama - Rama, Ontario (60 miles north of Toronto)

* This is an interesting one! I received word that Rush is booked to play two shows in July at the Casino Rama about 60 miles north of Toronto. The venue seats about 5000 and KISS played 2 back-to-back shows there last summer (July 20,21), so it's certainly plausible. The dates have not been announced yet but I assume they'd be back-to-back shows sometime in mid-late July. If true, it would seem to suggest that Rush plans to hit several more Canadian dates than on the 2007/08 tour - including Atlantic Canada hopefully.

Aug ??: Shoreline Amphitheater - Mountain View, CA
Aug ??: Sleep Train Pavillion - Concord, CA

* The word is that Rush has been confirmed for both of these venues sometime in early August. I'm not sure of the exact dates yet.

Aug 5th: USANA Amphitheatre - Salt Lake City, UT

Aug 22nd: Verizon Wireless Amphitheater St. Louis - Maryland Heights, MO (outside St. Louis)

* This comes from a source at the venue (thanks lifesonfan). This is around the same time they played this venue on the 2007 tour. So it's starting to look like the tour route will be very similar to the '07 leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour.

Date Unknown: Molson Amphitheatre - Toronto, ON

Remember that until Rush confirms any of this information, it's not official. If anyone has any industry connections or contacts at the various concert venues, find out what you can and let us know. I'll continue updating the site as I receive more information.

Thank you sooooo much for your hard work, Ed!! Finding out this information is almost as exciting as sitting in the audience before the concert and watching the spotlight workers climb up the ladder. You know it's coming soon!!!

Here's keeping my fingers crossed that St. Louis is on June 12. That would be the best birthday present ever. Last year I celebrated my birthday at RatCon, and the only thing that would even come close to comparing with how much fun that was would be a RUSH concert!
#15 - Posted 3/7/10 @11:12PM by The Clansman 2112 [contact]

The Casino dates interest me because on Neil's Website he stated the last time that they played a Casino it wasn't the best experience.

I remember him saying that the crowd was luke-warm because the front rows were full of people who received "Comps" because they were high-rollers or VIPS. He noticed that people seemed to be very disinterested in the Proceedings and some of them even left after the first part of the show. It actually had a impact on the band's performance because it was such a dead crowd.

He said that they never wanted to go though that again because the true fans weren't getting the prime seats.

would love to see them at the gorge in washington again! that was the best night of my life!

::turns from Basement Kat into Ceiling Fan Kat:: BWAAAAAA!!!!!

Early August for the Bay Area huh? Bands tend to tour CA in one swell foop, including Rush, so I'm figuring on L.A. a week or less either way of those dates. Sac and Fresno, if on the itinerary, tucked in there somewhere. Hubby needs to get steady job NOW. And I need to poke a few people in the hiney to make sure I'm back on my feet by August!!! AAAAAAA!!!!! ::spazzes out:: Needmoneyneedsurgeryscheduledneedmorewinerightnow

#15 - L.A. can be almost as bad as the casinos in a lot of ways because so much of the industry is out here. Bands who normally comp us in to their shows often can't in L.A. because they get a skimpy guest list. Think I've mentioned how a lot of bands dislike playing here for that and other reasons. I've attended concerts in the Midwest and the Boston area - the vibe is a lot better, ditto in the Bay Area. So, hoping I can hit multiple dates!!! Woo...

BTW the Hollywood WOF thing will be in the same time frame as the shows here right? Anyone coming out for shows here? Come on, we need to fill the place with REAL Rush fans!!
#20 - Posted 3/8/10 @1:26AM by random_sample [contact]

The Casino Rama thing just seems WEIRD to me, but..who knows. Hard to imagine Rush playing there. We shall see ,I guess.

I need Texas and Louisiana dates at least !!!

I'm happy for you guys, but I'm still waiting for information on a european tour...
#25 - Posted 3/8/10 @6:42AM by josh7598 [contact]

Thanks, ED! This definitely eases some tension, and makes the wait a little easier. Nice to get up on a Monday morning and read some good news. Well done!
#26 - Posted 3/8/10 @7:26AM by Will Collier [contact]

Uggggh. I hope they don't wind up at Gwinnett Arena. That place is miserable to get to (especially during rush hour), and the acoustics suck ass. Only redeeming virtue is the free parking.
#27 - Posted 3/8/10 @7:29AM by Will Collier [contact]

Update: okay, on a weekend date (June 6 is a Sunday) it wouldn't be AS bad at Gwinnett. But Verizon, Lakewood or even Philips would all be improvements.

Maybe Rush could rent out the Pensacola Civic Center for a week to gear up for this tour, a la Counterparts in '94...
#28 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:21AM by dadof4 [contact]

St. Louis is waiting... this town needs some excitement here!!!
#29 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:25AM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Crazed rodent here. Little beady eyes popping out, staring at a hot dog string of tour pellets dangling in front of me............

Do they make straight jackets in size Rattus Norvegicus??
#30 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:36AM by RUSHGIRL [contact]

Good LORD, I HOPE that the Casino Rama venue rumour DOES NOT HAPPEN! That is the worst place in the world to see a show!!! The gambling elite get first crack at the best seats, plus there is no drinking of alchol or any other beverage inside the theatre, and the shows I have seen there are cut WAY short on the set lists! The longest I have seen anyone play there is 1.5 hours!!! HORRIBLE EPIC FAIL if they play this venue!
#31 - Posted 3/8/10 @9:22AM by snowdog1969 [contact]

If not Oklahoma City, then PLEASE come to Dallas!!
#32 - Posted 3/8/10 @9:34AM by gag2man [contact]

I couldn't see them doing any kind of tribute to PW just because they played 2/3 of the album on the last tour. If they played Jabobs Ladder, I could probably tolerate that
:-). And then on the 2nd leg in 2011, it will be the 30th anniversary of MP so they could play The Camera Eye. That would also be terrible. :-)
#33 - Posted 3/8/10 @9:56AM by State of Grace [contact]

I agree with other's here... I can't see RUSH agreeing to Casion RAMA after Neil's comments about disliking that the true fans were not in the front rows at a Casino they played at before.

Besides "No alcohol or drinks of any kind inside theatre..." - DEAL BREAKER!!! :D LOL

Great rumours though for a Monday morning though!

PEACE...
#34 - Posted 3/8/10 @9:58AM by State of Grace [contact]

OOPS! Strike one *though* from the last sentence in my post #33.
#35 - Posted 3/8/10 @10:20AM by GooseRider [contact]

No way I'll cross the Atlantic to see a show in a casino! Why on earth would they not play the Molson? Now that would be worth the trip again. Early days yet, and all good things come to those who wait...
#36 - Posted 3/8/10 @10:29AM by hermy [contact]

Two years ago tomorrow Ed posted the following about March 8, 2007;

"I can safely say that yesterday was probably the most volatile and exhausting day on rushisaband.com since its inception."

The art work and Far Cry snippet were just being released and tour rumors were a buzz!

The machine is being cranked up again and the excitement is back. Should be an EPIC summer/autumn!
#37 - Posted 3/8/10 @10:38AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

Hermy, that was actually 3 years ago! I can't believe Snakes and Arrows has been out that long already.
#38 - Posted 3/8/10 @10:39AM by hermy [contact]

#37.....My bad! WOW, 3 years!!.......I need my coffee, and I'll pour some for #33 as well. ;-)

My heart is fluttering...an exciting time. Can't wait!
#40 - Posted 3/8/10 @11:17AM by Kelly D [contact]

While I agree that the crowds in casinos suck, I will admit that's how diehard fans up close get noticed *cough cough* ;)
#41 - Posted 3/8/10 @11:19AM by robertkincaid96 [contact]

This is already scheduled so I guess it will not be there.

Chayanne

The Arena At Gwinnett CenterAtlanta, GA

#42 - Posted 3/8/10 @11:29AM by Lamb Saag [contact]

Casino Rama?
Did they name a casino for the hero of the Ramayana, husband of Sita? He is the Hindu model of the ideal man, the seventh incarnation of Vishnu, and is widely venerated, by some sects as the supreme god. (I know lots of casinos are operated by Native American Indians, but never heard of one with connections to the Indian subcontinent, perhaps in name only, and by coincidence.)
#43 - Posted 3/8/10 @11:29AM by Will Collier [contact]

Rush will most likely NOT be playing Gwinnett Arena on June 6. There's already a "Chayanne" event scheduled in the arena for that date (no, I've never heard of him, either), and also a concert (Daughtrey--ugh) the night before:

link

There are no events at all on the current online calendar for June at Verizon Ampitheater... but certainly there will be plenty of shows there that month.
#44 - Posted 3/8/10 @12:11PM by Michael Senyo [contact]

The show at the Hollywood Bowl on the last tour took in well over a million bucks, in spite of the large number of freeloaders and hangers on, the base of LA's population. Include two shows at Nokia and one in the cow shed at Irvine, the boys didn't hurt at all after So Cal.

Here's hoping a full tour of viable venues in So Cal is in the works. I wonder, though, if Nokia will be included?
Its lousy.

If Rush plays Casino Rama, I'll eat my hat.
#46 - Posted 3/8/10 @12:58PM by rocinante5m [contact]

Got a feeling we will know by the end of the week, being how things went the past couple of years and based on what we know up to now.....just got a post on FB from Rush to check out the backstage club......Rush camp is active :D......

for all of those who doubted the tour and said they would not tour, try thinking more positively and i'm sure you will live a better life.........
#47 - Posted 3/8/10 @2:00PM by theanalogkid [contact]

Unfortunately, they wont be playing at Casino Rama during Diwali. Now that would be epic!
#48 - Posted 3/8/10 @2:03PM by Arleen2112 [contact]

I hope the Casino Rama rumor is a false one. I would HOPE they play at the Molson Amphitheatre..much better atmosphere for a summertime show!

Just checked the tour archives... RUSH have NEVER played in Vermont-NEVER... Can we work on that please?

#14 - TheHonestMan. Believe me there is NO better way to celebrate your birthday. 6th October 2007- Sheffield Arena, UK. My 40th. OMG. What an amazing day. Even got a glimpse of Neil riding by on his bike before the gig. Best day ever. Fingers crossed for you.
#51 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:23PM by RUSHGIRL [contact]

Woot! Getting closer to dates officially!!! Rama is on an Indian reserve in the small town of Rama. Molson Amp is a MUCH better venue for Toronto!!!!!!!
#49 I vote for Vermont as well!!!!!! That is one road trip I would look VERY forward to. Beautiful state to drive to!!!!!!!!
#52 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:25PM by Ian Harris

Summerfest, hmm.

Rush avoid festivals like the plague.

But then they avoided TV and they went on Colbert. And avoided writing hockey themes.

Looking forward to Alex's 12-string version of Match of the Day.
#53 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:28PM by I love Rush [contact]

Dear Rush:

Please do your Chicago show before Milwaukee July 3.
My son has Boy Scout Camp July 4--10.

We're going together to the Milwaukee show the night before camp (his first show, he's 12)
(that is, if the July 3 Milwaukee date is for real)

....how about Friday July 2 at the United Center?....

Love ya
#54 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:30PM by I love Rush [contact]

Ian:

they won't be at the Fest like you think---the theater is on the Fest grounds, but it is indoors. It happens to be the same weekend as Summerfest.

They did the same thing in 07 (or was it 08?)

Just ask Petie--
#55 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:33PM by yyz_6785 [contact]

It is interesting to note that the 2007 Snakes and Arrows Tour started in Georgia as well...I was there!

Let's start the tour on June 7th...my birthday!!!
#56 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:37PM by marty from clayton

RE: Ed's update about the Xcel in St. Paul, MN -- not only do they have July 5 blocked out, they also have Aug. 5 blocked out. Either date is fine by me - I can make either one.
#57 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:37PM by hermy [contact]

#54...It's actually an outdoor venue with a grassy hill and all. It's at the south end of the venue and Rush won't even know they are part of a festival. They will have the place to themselves for load-in, the show and load-out.
#58 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:50PM by redrocksdave [contact]

Looks like the Red Rocks show will be in late July, can be really hot around then, and good chance for rain. Hopefully they will film the DVD there this tour, can't believe they have never filmed themselves in front of a US crowd, time for that to change.
#59 - Posted 3/8/10 @3:51PM by Spindrifter [contact]

Someone throw some coals in and let's get this thing fired up! Hermy, you got my juices going!!! Chandelier time man! A summer of Rush is being molded before our eyes. Are there rats at the Gorge?
#60 - Posted 3/8/10 @4:07PM by TheHonestMan [contact]

#50 - Thanks for keeping your fingers crossed lol. I'd even take a day or two before or after my birthday :)

"This of course could have nothing to do with Rush, but it's worth keeping an eye on I suppose."

This might be my favorite quote from RIAB ever. We are all so excited that ANY concert announcement is big news because it MIGHT be related to RUSH. This is what makes this site so great. Thanks for the update, Ed.

The official news is just around the corner. I have a feeling that I won't be the only one visiting RIAB dozens of times everyday over the next week.
#61 - Posted 3/8/10 @4:30PM by theanalogkid [contact]

#56--I also checked the Xcel Center's calendar...they have the 5th of EVERY month in gray.
#62 - Posted 3/8/10 @4:31PM by theanalogkid [contact]

#49--I heartily second that motion. Bring Rush to VERMONT!!!!!
#63 - Posted 3/8/10 @4:52PM by RushonBlu-Ray [contact]

Wow looks like the bones are sloooolwy starting to roll!!
#64 - Posted 3/8/10 @4:56PM by katskahnne [contact]

Checked the Bowl's calendar, not much free in August, a handful of Monday nights and not much else. (If August is carved in stone for the Bay Area dates and assuming they do NorCal and SoCal in the same swath of tour...) Nokia hasn't got a lot listed past mid-July so who knows.

Wonder if they'll play Sac, they generally do. STA would be a dealbreaker, though...it's in the middle of BFE and I don't have a car. Hoping maybe possibly the Memorial, or Raley Field, or Cal Expo, or Echo - I mean Arco - Arena, even. Concert sound sucks at Arco and I've heard numerous performers complain that they can *never* get a decent guitar mix there so that'd be bottom of my wish list.
#65 - Posted 3/8/10 @5:45PM by weirdalok [contact]

#15 I was at the Las Vegas show, i believe it was May 10th 2008. If i remember correctly that was the show Neil was referring too, and i for one agree. Me and my buddy managed to get tickets and we ended up waaaay up in the very back (nose bleed section). And i have to say, we noticed that the front rows were not into the show at all, it didn't occur to me that they probably weren't rush fans at all, but it makes sense now.
Anyway, everyone in the back of the stadium with us were just having a ball, we new every word to every song, we were standing up the whole time. And i made quite a few good friends that night. Its a shame how the people in front probably didn't even know who Rush was.

Thank goodness!! Finally some tour news starting to gel! Although looks like I may only make two shows this time...damn electrical problems in my daughters room last night (actual fire in one switchbox)...just set me back over 500 bucks to have diagnosed and repaired...what was it?? Just a damn 3 dollar lightswitch..and she can't plug in her space heater anymore...Oh well...bring on Indy and Cincy!

#60-The official news is just around the corner. I have a feeling that I won't be the only one visiting RIAB dozens of times everyday over the next week.

Dozens is a little too few don't ya think. I already have ticket money, and just need them to come to atlantic canada now! I will be using my proxy server at school to constantly check RIAB, plus the dozens of times I will check at home.

I tried calling your cellphone...and kept getting some kind of message that I was using the wrong area code?? Probably some sort of electronic snaffu today.. Still hasn't gotten any better in the construction area??

rushrulez...I know you guys in AC have been waiting a long time for Rush to pay you a visit...I sure hope it happens for you all this time!
#71 - Posted 3/8/10 @7:47PM by emajor7th [contact]

Folks, be careful when the tickets go on sale. On R30 and S&A, "early bird" tickets were really "obscured nose-bleed" seats. Eventually, I learned that if I waited until the last day, I could get third row seats for face value. This may have changed since the Springsteen / Ticketmaster case. Anyone have recent experience with Ticketmaster?

Either way, I'M GOING! Thanks for the updates, Ed!
#72 - Posted 3/8/10 @7:59PM by RaceUnderPressure [contact]

the show neil was talking about was the trump taj mahal in atlantic city and he was right...the high-rollers down front were soooooo obvious...i had seats on the side and they were not great but i got to see some behind the scenes alex stuff like him during neil's solo and i learned that the guitar guy stands there with his next guitar for like 4 1/2 minutes when everyone in the place knows when the current song will end and he will need the next guitar! I could also see how much neil's kit shakes and moves from the angle - never saw that before...pretty cool

hey lance - I watched your interview/performace from friday night at rutgers on nj.com today at work - i called some co-workers over and said that I sorta "know" that guy!

scratch that...that's the 2008 dates on the low-bandwidth area...sorry.
#75 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:08PM by TheHonestMan [contact]

Bah! Of course the St. Louis show would be scheduled after I move out to the east coast. Depending on when the Mansfield, MA show is, I could be SOL. Actually, if they happen to hit the east coast before I get out there, I'll probably just fly back to STL and catch a show there. We'll just have to wait until the dates are official...

And posts like #73 aren't helping. I KNEW, repeat KNEW, the dates weren't posted. However, I still had to check just in case, lol.
#76 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:10PM by Rob

#69 About the area code..who knows?

As far as the trades go....yeah..it's pretty bad..didn't work at all last week...this week looks good, but after that..who knows?

horrible timing for an upcoming tour...maybe this affects ticket sales somewhat?? I think 2 shows for me max.

yes, it sucks.

#71 - My husband has done that zillions of times and gotten good seats - in fact the only time it didn't work for him was for a Rush show...The guys usually play two L.A. shows, and hubby has me talked into trying that trick on ONE of them. I'm "buying ahead" for the other!
#79 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:17PM by Rushgal1 [contact]

Oh that's a big surprise from 103.5 in SLC...not a big RUSH station...LOL! And I work for their sister station...and I still say that!
#80 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:20PM by holeinone53575

Rush has been known to open in Tennessee. I believe they like to rehearse in Nasheville of all places. I think they will open in that city. However it is odd we don't have any new music and Nick R. is working for some other band. Would anyone agree?
#81 - Posted 3/8/10 @8:43PM by main monkey business [contact]

emajor (#71)..Don't know if you or anyone else is aware of this...but it'd be nice if Rush would do with tickets what Iron Maiden is doing to get rid of brokers and scalpers...paperless tickets. You purchase tickets with a debit or credit card...then the person who bought the tickets shows up at the venue the day of show and presents the same credit card...it's at that point that you get your tickets..all you do is pick your seats and pay for them...then get the tickets at the gate...the brokers have nothing to sell. It's a step in the right direction for the fans.

Sting, not Rush? And now comes the rumor debunking in a slow, calculated manner..all the way to April 1! Beware the fool who follows it!

I agree #82. Foolish to think this tour will re-trace the S&A pattern.
#84 - Posted 3/8/10 @9:25PM by I love Rush [contact]

#71 you are soooooooooooooooo right!

for 2007, Rush sold out the Mohegan Sun (or tickets were not available the million times I tried and called).

My best gal pal live in CT and I was going to go out there to see them (and my friend) in 07 (I live in the midwest)........

so for 2008, I went on-line the VERY first day and the tickets I got were horrible for sure!!!!

But KellyD got her sticks at that show, so at least a die-hard fan had some fun at that show (I had fun, but now as much fun as KellyD!)

I've talked to one or two people who scored 3rd row or better on the day of the show last tour. Seems like some of the promoters turn in unused tickets early in the day. I'll probably buy tickets in advance just in case, but you better believe that I'll be checking that morning and afternoon!

I understand the concept...and I'm all for getting rid of the brokers. But, there are a few problems with that system.

#1 The person who purchased the tickets has to be there with the credit card. So, if the tickets were a gift, that means that mom or dad (or whoever purchased them)needs to drive down to the venue and present the credit card so they can have access. The tickets cannot be transferred. Royal pain in the butt. Would never work for say a place like The Gorge...which is in the middle of nowhere.

#2 What if there are 4 tickets and one person is running late for the show? That means that the credit card holder has to wait outside for that one person so they can all go in together. The entire part must entire at the same time.

#3 God forbid you become ill the day of the show...too bad. You can't even GIVE the tickets away!

#4 Slow entrance into the venue. Now they need to scan both your credit card and photo ID. It takes twice as long just to get in.

You would think Ticketmaster could come up with a better solution to cut out the brokers. Problem is...they are a broker. What a sham!
#98 - Posted 3/9/10 @12:11AM by LanceTheShred [contact]

This whole Nick R / Stone Sour relationship could really put a damper on seeing a new Rush LP this year. NR and SS are shooting for an August album release date. However, I wouldn't put anything past the boyz.

The only way we will see an LP is if there were songs vaulted and ready to rip post S&A's era. We know about "The Unfinished Business" and possibly a song with a Natural Science feel to it. How many more??

Damn this band is hard to predict. I guess that's one reason why we dig em so much!
#99 - Posted 3/9/10 @1:03AM by bravest_face [contact]

Just get Terry Brown, get to the source, Rush don't need Nick Rumplestillskins! Rush are the only real valid band he's recorded with, the rest are just Fly By Nights...but Rush know how to play the game...besides this tour is only going to be a b-sides warm up tour with a few new song's thrown in, maybe. They should just grow some balls and produce it themselves. LOL~

Good morning Net Boys and Net Girls!

Looking forward to the big announcement with all of you.

Could it be that the tour will be a late summer/early fall tour?

I know some of the outdoor venues in the NY/NJ area always add shows late into the season.

I would love another Radio City show...they sounded so great there on the R30 tour.

However it all pans out...looking forward to seeing them live again and to catching up with my Rush brothers and sisters at the big rock show!

Have a great day everyone.

Anyone care to share opinions on venues with the best sound? If there is a tour I will likely travel for a few shows. I saw Rush in Dallas and OKC on consecutive nights in 2008 and the difference in sound quality was significant. The OKC arena (Ford Center) was not very good, much like the United Center in Chicago where I'm from but the Dallas venue (Superpages) was outstanding. Since I have some flexibility with my schedule it might make a difference in my planning but I'll be happy to see Rush play anywhere. Thanks in advance for any input.
#110 - Posted 3/9/10 @12:02PM by I love Rush [contact]

Diego: Great topic!

If you're from Chicago, you must know that the

First Midwest Bank Ampitheatre/Tweeter Center/New World Music-whatever-the-f-they-are-calling-themselves
(you know, the thing in Tinley Park IL)

is horrible for concerts.

No good seat in the house!
The pavillion isn't pitched enough to get a good view.

I'll take the United Center any day over Tinley Pk.
I thought the sound was fine at the United Center--
I've seen Rush there about 3x

Worst Venue ever for sound was Redbird Arena--
Illinois State Univ, Normal IL. (my alma mater)
They played in 1991, I doubt Rush'll play there again
#111 - Posted 3/9/10 @12:33PM by jeweloutofreach

#110

I agree that the Tinley Park location blows. You cannot even tailgate there. I am hoping that they go into Toyota Park. It holds about 23,000, allows tailgating, is about 12 minutes south of 55, about 15 minutes from Midway airport and has plenty of parking. Eric Clapton just sold out a second blues festival there so if it is good for him and his stellar line-up it will be more than awesome accommodations for the boys.

I have a feeling that they will go to Tinley Park.
#112 - Posted 3/9/10 @12:44PM by bravest_face [contact]

*Rush fan since 1976* Hey yeah...I was pretty buzzed last night but I think they should produce a new studio release by themselves one of these day's. Knowing how they do things, they like an outside ear. It's all cool with me if it's good enough for them. Nick Rumplestillskins is a hit writing kat in the realm of rock. Which is great...I'm just thinking out-loud...maybe I shouldn't. If they found a stride with him that's cool. I just want them to make a untraditional "rush" record, something a little more outside the Rush box. I know they have it in them...but as we all know they will do what they want and I respect them for it.

They care for their fans and that's great. As for me calling Nick's bands(producing wise)fly by nighters...it's just a figure of speech because the bands he's work with are not in the legendary status as Rush. Only time will tell. I don't consider Foo Fighters legendary, Nirvana yes, but not the Foo Fighters...Not yet anyway's, that's just my opinion and as we know they all stink. I don't listen to any of the band's he's worked with only Rush. I'll tell you what though he know's what he's doing.

I could be right or I could be wrong...but I think this will be a warm up tour for the new tunes with a b-sides stint to it. It's going to be Rad as usual!!!
#113 - Posted 3/9/10 @12:45PM by rocinante5m [contact]

#104....i don't think it's necessary for the same people to come on this site, time and time again to just be negative all the time and doubt what Ed reports......if the certain few want to doubt everything and spew negativity they should go somewhere else and do it.......

good topic about venue sound......I for one hope they play at the Bank Atlantic Center rather than the West Palm Amphitheater, if they come down this way,lol.......In West Palm, if you're not towards the middle anywhere in the venue you loose a lot of the sound.....Bank Atlantic Center was pretty good, considering it was the second show.....last tour I also saw them back to back nights at the Nokia Center....i know there were a few people who thought the sound was terrible, I think it all depends on where you sit, naturally....the first night I was about 20th row Geddy's side kind of off to the side and the sound wasn't that good at all.......next night I got lucky and scored tickets an hour before show about 4th row just to the left of Geddy and the sound was a lot better......so again, it's all where you sit......if you can control where you sit, best seats are always right in front of the sound board...i usually make my way there for a couple of songs during the show....
#114 - Posted 3/9/10 @1:20PM by Diego [contact]

#113 makes a good point, where you sit makes a difference and it helps to move around a bit to see how much it matters. There are other factors involved.

I was only at the Dallas(at Fair Park)venue that I referenced in #109 once so I'm no expert there but I was impressed. While Rush sounded clear throughout, it made an even bigger difference in songs like Digital Man. I had heard it live at Tinley (Chicago) before but the rearranged live version was much more enjoyable to follow because it could be heard so clearly, especially Geddy's bass at the end. The bass is often difficult to pick up in the big venues as it was in OKC the night following the Dallas show.

I'm no fan of the Tinley venue either and the United Center and the Ford Center (OKC) are decent but if Rush is playing in a more sound friendly environment I'd try and include that in some travel plans.
#115 - Posted 3/9/10 @2:21PM by RaceUnderPressure [contact]

related to the sound discussion and this may get rise out of some people here but I now usually bring ear plugs to most shows...especially small shows where I am right next to the band and it makes the sound so much better...takes away the "noise" and I can hear everyone on stage. I woke up too many mornings with my ears ringing!

just a friendly note to all you "kids" here on riab....protect your ears

(Me waving hi!)

I will use Rush as an excuse to go to CT to see my friend when Rush is in/or near CT. She still lives out there and is a minor fan of Rush---

(I've seen Rush twice with her in CT:
R30 in Hartford (Meadows Music Theater, I think) and obviously saw them in '08 at Mohegan Sun. )

So if we end up at the same show, let me buy you a drink!

Venue info for Diego:

if it is still there, we had lawn seats in Hartford CT (Meadows Music Theater) and the sound was reaaallly good. Overall a very pleasant outdoor theater

The rumors are always the same with every Rush album. One being that there is a song with a Natural Science feel to it and the other saying that there is a song that sounds like Tom Sawyer. I even remember reading those rumors in magazines before Hold Your Fire came out. LOL
#120 - Posted 3/9/10 @3:55PM by cabterp [contact]

Hi everyone-
Long-time lurker, only the 2nd or third time commenting...
I had to throw my $0.02 in on some topics.
1) Yes, for Salt lake City, Sting IS a major concert announcement! Rushgal1, there are no big Rush stations in SLC. The only songs I ever hear ar "Tom Sawyer", "Spirit" and occasionally "Fly By Night"!
2) Sound at ampitheaters. My experience is limited, I've only been to Merriweather Post and Nissan near DC, the Gorge in Wsashington State, and USANA here in SLC. The best two for me were both the Gorge and USANA because neither has a roof. And the speakers are high enough off the ground that you can hear clearly all the way to the back of the lawn. Merriweather's great on the lawn because the slant of the roof does an excellent job of sending the sound out there. In fact, you can hear the sound clearly 1/2 a mile away in the mall parking lot where everyone parks! At least you could the last time was there in he late-'90's.
3) I was at that Atlantic City show in '08. I was near the front on Geddy's side. I vividly remember a multi-generational Fillipino family being led to their VIP seats right before the show. Once the band started, the looks of confusion and horror on the faces of the older ones was priceless. But they stuck it out until after the intermission.
#121 - Posted 3/9/10 @3:57PM by cabterp [contact]

PS-I should mention that the Gorge is just a beautiful place to see a show! If you ever have a chance to go there you should.

119 RushonBlu-Ray-The Natural Science feel song comment came from Nick himself last year!

Oh it's going to be "funs times a happening" on this blog when we get a new release from Rush! I can't wait to flame the funny little red noses off some of these clown posters. Where's conky at?? ;)

best place to see them? Radio City Music Hall in NYC.saw them the 1st time they played there and 20 some odd years later saw them again bringing my wife and son.....if you can swing it stay over nite in the city,we had a blast..hope the do go back there accoustics are great, but then again that's what it was built for, plays shows etc.........would love to go to Red Rocks though just because it looks downright beautiful there.......... lets just hope they tour again it'll be around my 60th time seeing them and I'd never thought I'd still have a chance to get to 1 more show..thanks ED for the site Alex, Geddy and Neil for still going strong and of coarse Donna for getting them here in the 1st place.......
#124 - Posted 3/9/10 @6:24PM by katskahnne [contact]

Weirdly enough, the Forum was a really good place to see/hear them. The place is a frakkin' *barn*, it's an old NBA arena, but I saw Rush there a number of times, and even up in the nosebleeds, the sound was amazing. The Lakers and Clippers moved on to Staples Center (the interior of that place gives me claustrophobia, the way the tiers are stacked...) and the Forum later became home to a local "megachurch" so...Staples/Nokia/L.A. Live sort of fell heir to some of the bigger shows. But in the late 60's through early 90's, that was where most of the major shows were that I went to. Some at Long Beach Arena (including Rush a couple times), Santa Monica Civic, the Greek Theatre on rare occasion...

Hollywood Bowl is nice but as I'd mentioned it's booked heavily in August - outside chance, but I'm betting it'll be Nokia Theatre 2, The Joint Formerly Known As Irvine Meadows 1 again. (All these dang venues down here changed names while I was living in Sacramento. I can't keep track! Course up there STA changed twice in the space of a year, I think...IT was originally Sacramento Valley Amphitheatre...)
#125 - Posted 3/9/10 @7:10PM by rocinante5m [contact]

that would be my guess keith82.....never saw them there but that's at the top of my list, along with Red Rocks
#126 - Posted 3/9/10 @7:36PM by Rob

I'm not saying this because I live there....but the best sounding show I saw on the S&A tour was the '07 show in Cincinnati @ Riverbend.

venues I have seen them at:

Riverbend (very good)
Noblesville (good)
Wright state-Nutter center (okay)
U.S. bank arena-Cincy (sucks)
Tinley Park (very good)
Blossom music center (very good)
Darien lake (good)
#127 - Posted 3/9/10 @7:37PM by keith 82 [contact]

hey--125--all the places i have seen them were in only a few venues around nj,ny,pa,--for example radio city, the spectrum in phila, garden state arts center in jersey (old school) the brendon burn arena/contentential airlines areana/izod center/no home for anyone anymore arena.......but the one thats sticks out was the 1st in NYC in '81 at the palladium that also no longer exists.paint chips were falling off the ceiling on Geddy's bass notes....really........madison square garden also was really good but it's more because it's "The Garden".like I said It's just grat that there might be at least 1 more go 'round......... but do not go to the areana in Camden...not because it's camden but the venue sucks...if your not in the middle or on the lawn(dirt) in the middle dont bother.......but they might have improved it , never went back .........

Wouldn't it be ironic if Rush played smaller halls this summer and everyone is looking at the wrong websites...not that anything is posted. You guy's ever tried the industry driven website poll star?
#129 - Posted 3/9/10 @8:34PM by Deadwing2112 [contact]

Not sure where the rumors about Atlanta in early June being opening night are coming from, but they're not correct. They're off by several weeks and a couple thousand miles.

@ # 128 - The venues this tour are the usual suspects.

Non-rush related...kind of...Iron Maiden/ Dream Theater...tour dates...for anyone interested.

You guy's should try poll star...or just start crank calling the venue and pretend your Ray Danails or something...and say something like "Eh, when is that date I posted I left my schedule in the office".

Regarding sound at venues: Rush doesn't come to Hawaii anymore so we always travel to Calif. to see them. 2002 Sleep Train in Marysville the sound wasn't very good. It sort of swirled around in the strong breeze. 2004 Hollywood Bowl sounded good - prominent bass which I really enjoyed. 2007 Shoreline Amphitheatre also sounded good but got it got very cool that night, plus bad parking. 2008 Nokia night 1 was O.K. but I think I've grown to like the outdoor shows more. We plan another Calif. trip this upcoming tour. Anyone from the Golden State have suggestions for good (or bad) venues to see the guys at?
#132 - Posted 3/9/10 @9:39PM by katskahnne [contact]

#131 - I've been to Shoreline a few times and I love the sound - course I generally had good seats. Concord is OK but if you don't like wind/chilly nights even in summer it may not be your cuppa. The Bay *does* cool off a lot at night. I've heard similar complaints about STA to what you said - never been there but my son saw NIN there and said much the same. Most of the better indoor venues around SF/the East Bay are a little smaller (Fillmore if it's still open, Maritime Hall, etc. etc.) than what I'd expect to see Rush play at. Been down here for a few years so don't know if anything else has popped up in NorCal. As far as bad sound - Arco Arena in Sacramento. Locals don't call it "Echo Arena" for nothing! Great for basketball, a disaster for concerts soundwise. Been in some fun pits there, though.

Down here I'm still kinda crossing my fingers for Hollywood Bowl though I know it's real iffy. Universal Amphitheatre (or whatever they're calling it anymore) has gotten to be a bit of a PITA. Sound is decent but not as good as back in the early 70's when it first opened and it was a true amphitheatre.

rocinante5m (#113) First part...I agree completely!

Oh..the best place soundwise where I've seen Rush? When they played my backyard barbeque! (Wait...slowly I awake from a long night sleep...)

Oh..in reality??? Probably either Noblesville or Atlanta's outdoor venues...

# 131 - RushInHawaii - Rush only performed in Hawaii two times and that was during the 1984 Grace Under Pressure Tour.

November 24, 1984 Honolulu NBC Arena. Honolulu, Hawaii (Strict-Neine)

November 25, 1984 Honolulu NBC Arena. Honolulu, Hawaii (Strict-Neine)

I believe that the reason for this is because when they were in Japan a few days before (also the only time the band performed), is that apparently Japan is the most important international tourist market in Hawaii, many tourist destinations offer information in Japanese and have personnel who can speak Japanese.

Also the planes tend to land in Hawaii if they are coming from Japan to fuel up anyway.

They have to come to Atlantic Canada this time. After by-passing the region for over 20+ years it just would not be right. Fingers crossed.

did some rat call my name?!?

#120 - i was @ the last SLC show (and the traffic jam that ensued on the way out) and the local radio station was playing Rush and did not know the names of the songs they were introducing (Spirit on the Radio) or something like that...

Radio City's acoustics rock...Shoreline was great as was Concord...the Cleveland/Cincinnati/Columbus shows sounded fabulous also

jones beach blows...the wind whips the sound into a flying spindrift!!! and at some points you can't hear the show! or hear it much less and i got small enough ears as it is!
#137 - Posted 3/10/10 @12:24PM by bravest_face [contact]

I heard they're going to open the show at the open air flea market(swap meat)in orange county, the acoustics are top notch I heard... especially by the beer booth. It makes sense it's a motorcycle drive from Niel's home. Tickets go on sale soon...plenty of parking.
#138 - Posted 3/10/10 @1:31PM by Distant Echoes [contact]

Possibly opening in the Southwest?!! Rush did open the Grace Under Pressure Tour in Albuquerque,NM in 1984(I should know...I was there in the front row!!)...rehearsed for a week prior to opening night...sadly this was kept under wraps...somehow I would have found my way into the building...Tingley Coliseum for those interested! They would most likely play The Pavilion(same place they played on the second leg of Snakes & Arrows...2nd row this time)!

Endlessly Rocking!

#129 You seem to be righ on with your info! Will the opener be in the southwestern US?
#141 - Posted 3/10/10 @5:18PM by TMMB [contact]

#142 - Posted 3/10/10 @5:49PM by mrdriven [contact]

Greetings Ney Boys and Net Girls,

PNC is such a great place to see a show.

The sound can be a bit iffy...unless you are in one of the 2 center orchestra sections. (102 or 103)

The sense of community was so amazing pre-show on the Snakes and Arrows and Snakes and Arrows Live Tours there.

I had a great opportunity to meet so many fellow Rush fans from RIAB, Counterparts and The Rush Forum boards.

I can't wait until then...well, for the official announcement and then the countdown begins.

Oh where's may faith?!

134 days to go!!!!

Cheers!

RGLT

#138 ! Good to see you!

Btw, wtf? No ones wished 2112 a Happy Birthday??? Well, jeez, Happy Birthday 2112! Now wheres the cake with the Starman, or, um Stargirl on top!

Am trying to keep my feet on the ground and my sanity in tact with all of these dates rolling around. Its going crazy and its going to get crazier soon! As someone summed it up, another Elvis sighting! Which is very true! So, when its set in stone, I'll start geeking out!

Til then.... We Hold On!
#145 - Posted 3/10/10 @8:10PM by bravest_face [contact]

Anyone want to start a betting pool to see where the tour will actually start? I know it's tacky but just for fun. I think they will start in the Canadian Atlantic...I Can Smell the Salmon. They will have Donnie Dumphie come on stage during the encore.

Hey everyone! I live in NC and the rumor I am hearing is Rush is going to open in Charlotte (Verizon Amp) or in Raleigh (Walnut Creek). I've heard around mid-June. I also heard they were NOT going to Atlanta this leg. One of the people who related this info to me said he got it from someone who worked at one of the Venues. So, this is worse than third hand information, but since a lot of speculation is going on, I thought I would relate to my fellow Rush fans what I have heard multiple times already. I hope this info is not true because I enjoy going to Georgia to see them and if the NC shows are first the kinks of the show and the boys wont be worked out yet.

Happy Speculation and Rumors until we know FOR REAL!!!

Diego, the North Carolina sheds have pretty good sound. If (by some miracle) they play the Durham Performing Arts Center, by all means GO! (Daltrey played there last fall.) From my experience, the Japanese Car Manufacturer Pavilion near DC is pretty bad for sound. I saw a couple of shows there when I lived in northern Virginia. I don't know why, but whenever I went to a show there, it sounded garbled (lawn or seats). However, let me qualify that by saying I never saw Rush there.
#148 - Posted 3/10/10 @8:49PM by Professordrums [contact]

I doubt they will play here again, but in 2008 one of the venues (I saw them at 3) I enjoyed was Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, PA. I had 10th row practically center and it was just awesome. What I liked about that place was the ability to be part of the pre-sale and get really good seats direct from their box office without the brokers getting in there an all seats whether it was first row or 20th row in those center sections, the price was $90 a ticket.

Ed..great news!!

If its in the southwest is Las Cruces, NM another potential possiblity. Iron Maiden is playing june 16 in albuquerque.

Las Cruces is free which would give them a week to do rehersals as they also did that back in January 1991 on the 2nd leg of the roll the bones tour. They kicked off the tour in las cruces and had rehersals for a week prior to the opening date.

Let us now!!

Thanks....

I love these posts and this is the RIAB that I know and love!

I don't care where they start, they will be here and there and I will be at a few in between!

Bring it on boys!

Looks like I'll be in Maryland Heights, MO on a Sunday in August...

I thought the sound there was pretty decent - and yes...Noblesville sounds just a bit better. Interested in maybe doing the Cinci show also (that is, if they go through this leg).

To open another can of worms, Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY is wanting to also host concerts also this year to boost revenue. They're having some type of fest with Bon Jovi and others (can't remember). Any one know if Louisville has been any stops for the guys???
#152 - Posted 3/11/10 @2:08AM by main monkey business [contact]

This is great news! Where the tour starts isn't important...as long as it comes through my "neck of the woods" along the way!!!
#153 - Posted 3/11/10 @4:35AM by mrdriven [contact]

i thought that date @ PNC sounded familiar...my last show in 2008...sniff sniff...will have to wait for official news...my heart can't take the rush rumor rollercoaster!!!

like mmb said - ain't important where it starts!

i'm only @ home when i'm on the fly...
#154 - Posted 3/11/10 @1:27PM by Distant Echoes [contact]

Where the tour starts would be important to me since I am in Albuquerque!!! I know Neil Peart has mentioned several times about his love for the Southwest part of the country...he even mentioned his disappointment in not playing Albuquerque for R30 in Roadshow! If Rush does play here, my guess it would be in what is now called The Pavilion...if any of you would like to visit this part of the country, I could let you know of some of the attractions to take in...also, Rush has a decent following here, but I'm quite sure we could use an infusion of long time fans to fill the venue!

Endlessly Rocking!

#149 I was at that Las Cruces show(Pan American Center)...Arrived a day early and stood outside the arena(actually I was inside until I was discovered!)...heard the entire show! Met Geddy and Alex in a hotel bar in town! Great times!!

I think they'll be at Jiffy Lube Live (formerly Nissan Brakeoverride Pavilion) in Bristow, Virginia this tour. Again if it..
