Rush 2010 tour update
Posted at 9:35PM | comments (51)

Information is slowly trickling in regarding Rush's expected 2010 tour. Alex Lifeson kicked off the tour rumors back in September when he said hopefully by next summer, [Rush would] be ready to tour in this NoiseCreep.com interview. Since then, both Geddy Lee and Neil Peart have chimed in with similar statements. Another clue that things were starting to happen occurred back in December when radio stations across the country ran contests to promote the release of the Working Men live compilation where they gave away chances to win tickets to Rush's next tour. And at the end of last month 105.7 WAPL out of Appleton, WI announced on the air that Rush would be playing Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 3rd. They even had a page up on their website promoting the event that has since been taken down. Apparently the date had been confirmed unofficially but the station prematurely announced it. And then in late December I reported hearing that the band was in the process of nailing down dates for a 2010 tour to start in the late Spring, focusing particularly on first getting to places they missed on the last tour - like South America and Atlantic Canada. I've just received more information which corroborates this; the band plans to tour South and North America in 2010 with an extensive Canadian leg including Atlantic Canada. In yesterday's Rush documentary update post, I let you know how TNMS member Oz had mentioned in his remarks regarding the documentary that Rush would be touring later this year but that Europe would not be included. I've also heard that it is indeed the case that Europe would not be included this year but that Rush would be following up the North/South American leg of the tour with a European leg in 2011. I am also still expecting the official tour announcement by the end of this month, although I'm not sure whether anything regarding a European leg will be included in this announcement.

First...

That is some BIG news. Thanks for the info, Ed. Hopefully they'll add North American dates for 2011. Another two summer tour? Amazing. And the only way they could that is with new music!

This is AWESOME! This will be a great year folks! Cant wait to hear the new stuff!! I wonder if they are gonna release just one song at a time over the course of the tour or all at once right before and how many they will be making.I hope Rush.com puts up a small preview of there new stuff like they did with S&A when they announce the tour! Gonna be FUN!!!

#10 - I know, I about gave myself whiplash air-drumming to "Far Cry" when Rush.com first put it up...listened to it a bazillion times and never got tired of it...sent out a "DUDE!!! GO TO RUSH.COM!!!" e-mail to all my friends (who probably laughed their natural @$$es off at me)...ahh, good times...and it's gonna be better this time for me...failure = not an option...I *AM* going to see 'em come hell or "high water"!!! AAAAA!!!

people wait with what is right term, "bated breath" and a grain of salt in hand. salt is for the snow and blizzards, of course.

I have 3 weeks of hoildays coming up and I'm planning to use a bit of them seeing the boys!!!

I smell a St. Louis Dave & Buster's pre-show throwdown in the very near future...

If we see an album before the summer, I'll be shocked.
#16 - Posted 2/19/10 @12:11AM by AngularMass [contact]

Let's see...if I spend my first two years of college sleeping in a van eating one-pot-mash-soup, I could probably afford about half of my Rush-related ambitions for 2010

yay! I hope they do a show in Argentina this time!

I am banking on July 3rd at Summerfest in Milwaukee! That date has not been filled yet for the Summerfest lineup! Of course, Carrie Underwood will be closing Summerfest on the 4th if your interested........ha
#20 - Posted 2/19/10 @2:41AM by elorenzetti [contact]

Also....Have you noticed all the bad luck and karma the Olympics have had since the actual games have started? See what happens when you cut the boys out of the Opening Ceremonies!!!!!!!
#21 - Posted 2/19/10 @2:43AM by main monkey business [contact]

Carrie Underwood? Interested? I'm a guy! LOL...Actually this is great news! Once again Ed....thanks for staying on top of the news and official information...looking forward to seeing you soon in Cincinnati!

I can't remember RUSH ever going out on tour without new material. They even recorded Feedback for their 30th Anniversary Tour so they would have new songs to play. I wonder if any new material will be released before the tour starts. Either way, I'm there!

Here's a little fact that I'm still amazed by being a RUSH fan. My oldest son was born January 21st and my other son was born October 12th.... 2112 ...pretty cool. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Oh, yes! Europe! That'd surely be great! Even if it is another year to wait...
#25 - Posted 2/19/10 @5:15AM by dssnhopper [contact]

Lance - I just got one, too! How effing great is this, peeps? Rush, Rats, and good times!
#26 - Posted 2/19/10 @7:45AM by Jaybird [contact]

This sounds like the biggest tour since Signals, when they did 106 shows, or 103 for Roll The Bones.

Also, depending on my counting, which I need to do some recounts for accuracy, they have about 1,679 total shows (counted from PowerWindows site).

Sounds like the 1,750 mark is quite reachable, and dare we say it, they are inching ever closer to show number 2112!!
#27 - Posted 2/19/10 @7:49AM by Agent Rush [contact]

Lance!

The pellets are really starting to drop!
As we disscused....I'm down for a trip to Redrocks or Vegas.

Of course Nissan and anywhere within a 5 ot 6 hour drive time is up for grabs to.

BTW....keep and eye on the mail box bro. Couple pellets heading your way.
#28 - Posted 2/19/10 @8:00AM by OpenSecret [contact]

Ah yes, Summerfest and Rush - virtually a tradition now and always a great show and great crowd. I think we can reasonably expect at least a few new songs from all said thus far from the band themselves. I also expect to spend ridiculous cash on front and center tix - only for Rush - and worth every penny.
#29 - Posted 2/19/10 @8:25AM by dadof4 [contact]

Sweet!!!
#30 - Posted 2/19/10 @8:34AM by RUSHGIRL [contact]

Yeah!! More Canada!! I love the East coast of Canada so getting to travel within my own borders will be great! Looks like I will be taking a trip to the UK again if they tour over there in 2011! Thankfully I have a great friend I can stay there with and go to shows with or that trip would be impossible!! I did it in 07 and that made it affordable. Too bad our European friends may have a year to wait, but they can always travel to this side!! Looking forward to the official dates!!!
#31 - Posted 2/19/10 @9:44AM by rushguyone [contact]

Great news, thank you thank you thank you.
#32 - Posted 2/19/10 @9:59AM by State of Grace [contact]

YIPEE KIYAY!!! :D

YES! More Canadian dates on this tour - AWESOME!!! I am SO happy for the east coaster's that RUSH will tour there. I know a lot of them will be off their NUT about it! I have many friends and relatives on the east coast. This will be a BLAST to share with them.

Glad to hear that RUSH will make it to South America 2010 and Europe 2011. You fans deserve it!

PEACE and chicken grease!

Sweet. Rush effing rules.
#34 - Posted 2/19/10 @10:58AM by hitmewithmusic [contact]

#19 That's funny man!
Makes sense to break up North/South America and Europe over two years. I think they will release 5 or 6 songs including one long song for download, then tour.
#35 - Posted 2/19/10 @11:33AM by skl183

if there is a tour this year, it reminded me that Nissan Pavilion is Bristow Virginia has changed its name to Jiffy Lube Live!

I doubt they'll even recognize the venue name change and play up state in Maryland at Merriweather Post Pavilion instead.
#36 - Posted 2/19/10 @11:38AM by Sirius [contact]

Atlantic Canada...Srry But I'll wait until the Official stuff comes out..then after,if its true, I'll Scream as loud as a church Bell..The City Will hear me Howl out believe me..XD

Since last time they missed us,I'll stay calm for now.

Speaking of album posibility,We Never heard that the boys was in the studio recording right now..and if they expect to tour this summer, theres only like 4 or 5 months left.IF they release a full Lenght album, then that means they started way before..without even saying anything about it..and when Alex said:

hopefully by next summer,[Rush would] be ready to tour.

were they in recording session without even saying anything?..to keep it as a secret for us fans?..Bad Lerxst..BAD!! :O

Wtv I Cant wait to see this new Stuff!!..Laterz Ppl!

This is awesome news if it is true for Atlantic Canada. It's been awhile since Rush has played. I think 73? I'll be extremely happy as I won't have to travel so far to see them play. Last year I went to Manchester, Mass for the Snakes & Arrows tour.
#38 - Posted 2/19/10 @12:43PM by Kelly D [contact]

JoshuaRyan, you mean Mansfield, MA? I was there- it was my 20th birthday!
#39 - Posted 2/19/10 @12:52PM by joerock213 [contact]

The majority of the tour should still be in the states. We made them rich and famous and continue to do so.
#40 - Posted 2/19/10 @1:24PM by bravado34 [contact]

WOW, wow, wow! Fantastic...
#41 - Posted 2/19/10 @1:28PM by random_sample [contact]

#36- If you recall the last comments Neil Peart made about Rush ,he was saying basically that they could end up doing something different than what they normally do,as far as recording/ touring goes, so to quote Neil from a song from the late 80's..."anything can happen"....
#42 - Posted 2/19/10 @1:34PM by musicofthespheres [contact]

randomly:

a shout out to Geddy's lyric-writing abilities (Angels' Share came on the ipod earlier). MFH musically leaves a bit to be desired for me, but i thought he did a great job writing lyrics. Neil's never used "hypothesize"...:)
#43 - Posted 2/19/10 @4:05PM by skl183

okay and lets move on to more pressing questions if the tour is in fact happen. how can we make this tour more interesting? A whole set of Permanent Waves? A whole set of Power Windows songs for the 25th anniversary?

You please 2 groups of fans by doing this. The classic ESL-era fans and the synth era fans.

I know that sounds radical and boring to some folks (even the band themselves), but you have to admit playing standards like Bravado and Red Sector A night after night must do them in same especially since R30 and Rio already includes multiple performances of these songs not to mention other skipped tracks from 2007-08 tour like Force 10 and Roll The Bones.

Not getting my hopes for Atlantic Canada after the last one but fingers and toes are crossed.....Halifax!!!
#45 - Posted 2/19/10 @7:06PM by UberDelegate86 [contact]

May have to do a roadtrip this summer! I hear its only 15 hours from here in ATL to YYZ...

Let's hope this is the tour they finally do Presto, Anagram and Sweet Miracle!
#46 - Posted 2/19/10 @10:41PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

#27 Agent Rush! Look forward to seeing you this year dude.
Red Rocks is absolutely on the manefest of tours this year.
Will keep an eye out for the package!

Can't believe they changed Nissan to Jiffy Lube Live-LOL!
#47 - Posted 2/20/10 @2:35PM by berniecorbett [contact]

Atlantic Canada? I won't be holding my breath waiting. We've been promised a show for about a decade. Last one was in 1987!!

When the house lights got dark is when I will believe they will actually show up. As you can probably tell, I'm a little p|ssed that they keep promising a Halifax concert and always back down.

If we get passed over again, I will probably see them in Quebec City like I did on the Snakes and Arrows tour.

RUSH TO HALIFAX!!!!
#48 - Posted 2/20/10 @5:23PM by katskahnne [contact]

#46 - Jiffy Lube, LOL...it was like, when they changed the name of the main outdoor venue near Sacramento to Sleep Train Amphitheatre...I'm sorry, that just doesn't scream "rock and roll"! If they gotta play outdoors up there, I'm hoping it's somewhere a little more accessible - they've played Cal Expo before (I used to live within walking distance of there!), and I doubt Raley Field will be too busy late in the summer (River Cats should have finished their season by then)...not sure about the capacity there though. They've had concerts there by other artists. I guess the Memorial's too small to hope for...::sigh::

As for L.A....the Bowl or the Nokia?
#49 - Posted 2/21/10 @8:23AM by Agent Rush [contact]

YEAH....does that name suck or what! Sounds like some gay bath house or something! (not that there's anything wrong with that)

Lance guess who's hooked on pork tree music now?? Not only me but my little boy as well. So we go back and forth between certain songs by PT and then RUSH favs while driving to soccer or karate or whatever.
#50 - Posted 2/25/10 @10:08PM by juanorush
