Happy International Rush Day!
Posted at 7:30AM | comments (35)

Today is the 21st day of the 12th month - often written as 21/12 in many parts of the world. The occasion has become a sort of unofficial Rush holiday in recent years. What better excuse do you need to listen to Rush all day long, watch Rush DVDs, wear Rush paraphernalia, etc? To make it especially significant, do something extra special at exactly 9:12PM this evening; 21:12 in military time. It's also the Winter Solstice (First Day of Winter). For all the folks on Facebook: I created an event for International Rush Day here. Happy International Rush Day!

That vid will never fail to make me giggle like an idiot. I love Ged's voice (along with everything else about him)!

Happy 21/12!

Ahhh, good ol' 2112.........

It brings back memories of a December day in 1983 when I got the album in the mail from Columbia Record Club, there was snow on the ground, we had a snow day, no school.

My Christmas memories will forever include cranking up 2112 on my crappy bedroom stereo, hearing that music for the first time, and playing the album over and over all that day. I was only fifteen, but I got chills down my spine! So from now on, I can only listen to the album in it's entirety on this day, December 21st.

HAPPY 2112 DAY!

My first Rush show was 12/21/01 at the Meadowlands. WOW - time flies.

I was sick and out of school for 4 days with a stomach virus but my mom still let me go to the concert. She didn't want me to lose the $11.50 for the ticket - LOL.

What a show.
#12 - Posted 12/21/09 @10:43AM by jakrelax [contact]

killernj13... Rush did not play The Meadowlands on 12/21/01 (they did not tour that year). I am certain it was 2002, as I drove up from Philly and went to thay show as well ;-).
#13 - Posted 12/21/09 @10:57AM by Ricbass4003 [contact]

I love the "celebrity Winter Advice" clip.
regarding a helmet...people who care about their brains...
then Ged isn't wearing a helmet when he rides the hill. I'm sure he doesn't want to mess up his fine hair and his toque was on perfectly! whooo hooo!

It is great to be united with fellow RUSH fans for our special holiday. I am going to celebrate with R30 on Blu Ray. No one is home but me so I can crank it up it all its glory!

Rush on friends!
#14 - Posted 12/21/09 @11:01AM by killernj13 [contact]

OH - crap - I totally wrote the wrong year in.

It was 12/21/81. I guess subconsciously I didn't want to admit it was that long ago. LOL
#15 - Posted 12/21/09 @11:06AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

#14 - Haha. I was thinking $11.50 for pretty cheap for 8 years ago.
#16 - Posted 12/21/09 @11:24AM by killernj13 [contact]

You could get a beer for $11.50 nowadays. LOL

Back in the day my mother had one rule when I went to concerts.

YOU HAD TO GO TO SCHOOL THE NEXT DAY!!!!!!!!!!

In the early 80's the Meadowlands had just opened and if seemed there was a concert every week.

Tonight, at precisely 2112, I will toast and drink to the boys! God bless em! \m/\m/

#17 ESL-You will not be alone at 21:12 with that toast bro. We have a lot to be thankful for with this band.

I pulled up the Weather Channel long range forecast and it said that rats can expect a heavier then normal accumulation of pellets for 2010. They quoted:

"Moisture associated with Tropical Storm Rush was expected to spread across portions of Canada. Spindrifts out of area, combined with a Nick R frontal boundary, will transport this tropical moisture to produce some heavy golf ball sized pellets across the Hemispheres."

They used a bunch of other meteorological terminology and ended the forecast with: "We will call you rodents, the fat and happy you shall be".

I'm not kidding. Google it if you would like......

#4 Hemisferios!! Have any contacts in Argentina dude??? How about redbarchetoed?? Let me know! Hoping for you both that the boyz include Puerto Rico on their 2010 tour itinerary.

A happy International Rush Day to all!
#20 - Posted 12/21/09 @2:35PM by DaveTinNY [contact]

Ahh, yes, my brother and I saw Rush on 12-21-81 at Madison Square Garden in NYC. :) Those were the days.
#21 - Posted 12/21/09 @2:42PM by DaveTinNY [contact]

CORRECTION: We saw Rush on 12-21-81 AND 12-21-01 at Brendan Byrne Arena, in NJ not MSG... although I have seen Rush there too. :)
Still have my Moving Pictures t-shirts from that show, dated as such. SOLD OUT!! :D

Happy Rush Day, everyone! And this Rush Day seems all the more special with Rush recording/touring activity on the horizon like a beautiful and promising sunrise!!

I, too, will be lifting a celebratory glass at 9:12 p.m. Pacific time (heck, if I wasn't gonna be running errands today I'd follow the "It's 9:12 somewhere!" rule...) because, as Rush fans, we DO have a lot to celebrate!!

At 21.12 I will raise a glass to you all. I have less than 40 minutes to wait here in the UK so had better crack on and open a bottle!
#24 - Posted 12/21/09 @4:23PM by JohnnyTRacer [contact]

Happy International Rush day to all, and to all, a good Limelight......A little stretch at some humor there :-)

RUSH ON!
#25 - Posted 12/21/09 @4:49PM by thedudeabidz [contact]

I just found out about this today. I'm always too focused on the fact that it's Frank Zappa's birthday today as well as Winter Solstice. But the Rush thing makes sense too as I've always considered them pagans in their own way.
#26 - Posted 12/21/09 @5:22PM by RushFanForever [contact]

#25 - thedudeabidz - thanks for the reminder that it would have been Frank Zappa's 69th birthday today if he was still alive. (b December 21, 1940 - d December 4, 1993)

Sometimes I wish both Rush and Frank Zappa could make music until the year 2112. :D
#27 - Posted 12/21/09 @5:32PM by Rob [contact]

9:12 or 21:12 could be looked at as 9-12...Neil Peart's birthday.

Figured that out all on my own!! lol
#28 - Posted 12/21/09 @6:17PM by GedHed [contact]

#19: Lance! You are so darned clever! :D

#1: Hot Ged pics, as always! Woo-hooo!

Happy International Rush Day, rats!
#29 - Posted 12/21/09 @6:51PM by glortiz [contact]

I would be remise if I did not wish everybody on RIAB a Happy 21-12 Day!

And to the best webmaster around, thanks Ed! Especially for the Santa-clad Starman!
#30 - Posted 12/21/09 @6:52PM by Maritimer [contact]

it's 2112 rush day here almost everyday...
#31 - Posted 12/21/09 @7:17PM by RushFanForever [contact]

Apparently Rush 'Hold Your Fire' Christmas tree ornaments exist. It is a red ornament with the name 'Rush' on it. It is similar to the three red balls on the album cover.
#32 - Posted 12/21/09 @8:38PM by Nettie [contact]

Apparently, someone at the rock station here gets it(21/12)
because 2112 was playing when I was driving home from Christmas shopping!
#33 - Posted 12/21/09 @9:13PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

9:12pm on the East Coast. Cheers to the greatest....
#34 - Posted 12/21/09 @9:56PM by Rob [contact]

#31 I own one!
#35 - Posted 12/21/09 @11:12PM by R40Countdown [contact]

Ed, I will try to post this at 9:12 Colorado time as my special moment! If I had read this post earlier I would have called my boss and demanded the day off in observance of 2112 day. Better mark the calendar for next year.
