Radio stations giving away Rush 2010 tour tickets?
Posted at 5:40PM | comments (76)

UPDATE - 12/17@9:30AM: From what I'm now hearing from my sources, there won't be any kind of official tour announcement until early next year. But the good news is that it sounds like the band is currently in the process of nailing down dates for a 2010 tour to start in the late Spring, focusing particularly on first getting to places they missed on the last tour - like South America. Supporting this is that fact that the biggest FM radio station in Buenos Aires (FM Rock & Pop) reported earlier this week that a major local booking agency is working on bringing Rush to Argentina for the next tour (thanks Martin from Argentina). The wheels are definitely in motion. Barring some unforeseen catastrophe, I'd say it's pretty clear that Rush will be touring in 2010. Now the big question is what type of studio release will we see from the band and when.

UPDATE - 12/16@10:38PM: It looks like WYSP in Philadelphia is in on the game too (thanks PwrWndws) ... probably other stations out there as well.

A couple of weeks ago in Toronto Geddy Lee was a special guest at the 25th annual Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) Miracle Day charity event. According to reports from a few lucky fans who were there and spoke to the man himself, Geddy said that Rush plans on entering the studio very, very soon and are hoping to then tour this summer. Since these comments came in the wake of Rush's November band meeting they would seem to hold more weight than Alex Lifeson's prior musings about 2010 album/tour plans in interviews back in the summer. Since Geddy's comments were made, I've also heard some anonymous reports that a couple members of the Rush road crew have been casually contacted regarding the possibility of going out on tour next year. So it definitely sounds like something is brewing. In yet another interesting turn of events, 2 major radio stations - Chicago's WLUP and Boston's WZLX - have both recently announced contests to promote the release of the Working Men live compilation where they are giving away tickets to Rush's next tour. WLUP went as far to say that they are expecting Rush to be in Chicago in 2010 according to their sources and that details will be coming soon. Perhaps they know something we don't? Maybe there will be some type of official announcement in the next week or so. That would indeed be a nice Christmas present from the band. Keep your fingers crossed! Thanks to malterb and Stephen Y for the info.

I'm saving up regardless. . . a little scrimping and saving goes a long way, which is what I'm telling myself, anyway. . .

woooooooo doggie! This would be a great Christmas gift. I can't wait now. The suspense is killing me!

For me, it would be an excellent Christmas gift if they confirmed they'll tour South America.

I don't think it'll happen, though.
#8 - Posted 12/16/09 @8:29PM by State of Grace [contact]

I was just watching the Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Phoenix NHL game on TSN and all of a sudden I hear Tom Sawyer start playing and video of R30. Then I hear, "Live at the first intermission brought to you by Rush Working Men Edition, all the hits live."

Who says Rush and hockey don't go well together. Two Canadian icons.

Bacon, Maple Syrup and a Timmie's anyone?

PEACE...
#9 - Posted 12/16/09 @8:47PM by Soundtweaker [contact]

Seems like its awful quick for them to go into the studio already. They wrote songs already? Feedback 2?
#10 - Posted 12/16/09 @9:11PM by josh7598 [contact]

Wish we had some definitive proof instead of these rumors! I'll believe it when I see it.
#11 - Posted 12/16/09 @9:25PM by OpenSecret [contact]

I think it may be a small tour to support the Working Men release. That makes a bit more sense to me. I just doubt they would put a new studio lp together in a couple months then tour.
#12 - Posted 12/16/09 @9:27PM by mrdriven [contact]

#9 - funny you mention Feedback 2.... for the R30 tour in 2004, i saw the opening show in Tennessee and it was a few weeks before the Feedback album was released...it was so cool to see the songs live before you could buy them...

maybe that is something the band has up its sleeve...release the music in synchronization with the tour and selling the new music @ the shows...

speculation is so much fun !!!
#13 - Posted 12/16/09 @9:31PM by rushtributeband [contact]

I love how Ed always makes guesses, as if he is being coy and doesn't already know more than what he's currently posting. Ed you secretive bastard, you know Rush is going to post an announcement near Christmas don't you? You always predict things and they end up happening. Coincidence? I think not lol.

TELL US NOW!!!!!!!!!
#14 - Posted 12/16/09 @9:34PM by rushtributeband [contact]

Also I hate to double post but, I have a theory about this so called "tour"

Adding on to what OpenSecret said..it makes sense that this "upcoming tour" would be in promotion to their latest release, that being working men. I summit that perhaps the tour Alex spoke of back in the day, about obscure rare material, might be the tour that takes place, alongside tracks from the working men release, and then that way they get the whole obscure tour/working men release out of the way...they tour the new album in summer of 2011 and then do a farwell tour in 2012. Last show being December 21st. Then they retire and make it into the hall of fame.
#15 - Posted 12/16/09 @10:03PM by glortiz [contact]

Honestly, we all don't know exactly what they will do but some new music and a tour is almost a certainty!

And I will say it again...

Our boys will not let us down!

Prelude to R40!
#16 - Posted 12/16/09 @10:21PM by dbos_CX1 [contact]

Good news indeed. The last tour seems so long ago...
#17 - Posted 12/16/09 @11:08PM by YYZedd [contact]

Could it be the "B sides tour" that was hinted at? With "Working Men" (which would be fairly old by then) and maybe a few singles released to tour on? Maybe just a short, major market tour?

Although they do still owe Atlantic one more **studio** album. So, who knows what's going on. We'll find out soon enough.
#18 - Posted 12/16/09 @11:16PM by TommYYZ [contact]

Wait, so there are no tickets? Whats the deal with that? That seems kinda cruel, tell fans there are concert tickets when there are none? Am i missing something here?
#19 - Posted 12/16/09 @11:18PM by Multiplied Reaction [contact]

Great news. Time to start saving some money.
#20 - Posted 12/17/09 @12:39AM by primemover [contact]

i have not posted in a while, but something someone said about (re: last tour in 2012) reminded me of a prediction i had made (we could scroll back into the archives to find it i guess!) that Rush would have a tour in 2012 with a total of 100 shows (2012+100=2112)... then THAT will be THAT!

done! retire...

you watch... i still stand by that prediction (and will buy 1 person 1 beer if i'm wrong - you just have to catch me in a bar! i'm good for it!)

it would be "perfect"
#21 - Posted 12/17/09 @12:39AM by JohnnyTRacer [contact]

I just need to chime in and mention HOW FREAKING GREAT Hemispheres is! I just got done watching over 1-hour of youtube, live videos of our guys and Hemispheres from the Counterparts tour takes the cake! It is just so powerful and magical to see performed live. Maybe next time!?!?!!

RUSH ON!
#22 - Posted 12/17/09 @12:40AM by primemover [contact]

sorry, meant to add "precition i had made at the end of the S&A tour"
#23 - Posted 12/17/09 @1:11AM by spiralarray [contact]

wow, some of these predicitons are a little out there! I'm pretty sure the guys in Rush would probably laugh at the whole tour in 2012 with 100 shows= 2112 thing. I don't think they think that far ahead, let alone would actually set out to plan something like that.
Im pretty sure at this point, with them all approaching 60 years old, anything they do at all..is take it as it comes and we're fortunate if we hear new stuff from Rush. Looks like maybe another album or equivalent and possibly a tour ,but beyond that...is just silly to even expect.
#24 - Posted 12/17/09 @1:12AM by spiralarray [contact]

*predictions. oops
#25 - Posted 12/17/09 @6:07AM by Jaybird [contact]

I hope I don't sound like a curmudgeon, but I don't like the practice of giving away tickets to concerts. I remember back in the day when the (true) fans got the seats up front because they were available to buy just like any other seat.

Nowadays, the person who wins the tickets may not be much of a fan and seems bored when Alex is ripping a solo. It is cool when a fan like us here wins, but 99.9% of us are frustrated, and have to worry we will get even decent seats, and pay out the you know what on the secondary market.

Having said that, it is cool to know our boys will be rocking this summer, and good luck to those calling in!
#26 - Posted 12/17/09 @6:48AM by josh7598 [contact]

I checked the WYSP website and they are indeed giving away the Working Men cd/dvd, but it made no mention of tickets.
#27 - Posted 12/17/09 @7:33AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

Calling all Rats! Calling all Rats!

Someone who has contacts in these radio stations needs to give them a call and see whats up. Apparently they are not too worried about letting the news of a RUSH tour slip because they are giving away tickets on the air. If they have been given some official notice, I think we can squeeze it out of them. RUSH fans can't keep secrets about RUSH tours!

#20: Happy to see you posting again! :) But I hope you're wrong about the guys. I want them to stay around for at least an R40 tour. I'm selfish, I know. But I missed *so* many tours...D:

#25: (My apologies for the back-to-backs) I feel the same way about getting tickets. I remember the old days of strictly GA back in the '70s. That was *so great*! All you had to do was to be willing to wait in line for an insane amount of time for tickets, then wait an insane amount of time at the venue, then once you got in, to guard your spot the rest of the time. And people actually *sat down* once they got into the venue back then to wait for the shows to start. And then there was that Who concert and things changed pretty much forever. Now days it's the rare exception for tickets to see a *really* great band to be GA. I have to say, I'm happy PT is still something of a well kept secret. But even at their shows, people stand, stand, stand before the shows start. Makes no sense. Why the heck not sit down?! Shows were much more likely to sell out back in the '70s, too. All we had to do was to scrape up six or seven bucks. Now it's a rich person's deal--at least the first few rows are. And even "lousy" seats are still pretty expensive. I know why it happened but I do think it's a shame. There are so many true blue fans who will never stand front row because they just cannot possibly afford $1000+per ticket. Some bands try to rectify that by having a sort of lotto type thing at the door where tickets are randomly flagged and the ticket holder is allowed to go up front. I think U2 did that on at least one of their tours.

COME TO THE MARITIMES!
#35 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:33AM by GedHed [contact]

Speaking of expensive concert tickets, I hope the guys do start out in South America. I need time to scrape up $! But this is the *coolest* news! I cannot wait to hear whatever it is that they're recording! Rush on a stage--this year! Woo-hoooooo!!! :D :D :D
#36 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:46AM by State of Grace [contact]

Thankfully my piggy bank has grown a bit and I am so ready for Rush to go on tour! It's been a rough few years and this would be great timing for me.

#34 axe - In all seriousness Rush should really consider going to the Maritimes in Canada. I took my little sister to the S&A 2008 concert in Toronto. She went to Newfoundland this past summer to visit family and friends. When she told people in Newfoundland that she had been to the Rush concert she couldn't believe their enthusiasm and how many told her just how lucky she was. She said that they LOVE Rush with a PASSION on 'The Rock'!

PEACE...
#37 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:56AM by Joe

How long does it take to make and package a new album? Didn't they go up to that mountain studio early in 2007 for S&A? They were touring that summer.

YEAH!!!!....just some advice for the peanut gallery that posts......if you haven't figured it out by now, this isn't some TMZ sight, this is the most credible site on the the net...Ed doesn't just post "rumors", he does his homework and only posts when he feels it's worth posting and from a credible source.....i've been here for a while and i will say that Ed's voice is Gospel, period.......

nothing worse than negative people and doubters......

#39 - Posted 12/17/09 @2:25PM by GreeneWolfe [contact]

Just hope this tour they will play a different setlist! Give the REAL fans some "B" sides!! Screw the classic rock yuppies that want to hear Tom Sawyer and Limelight. Otherwise, I will be attending Phish concerts instead..
#40 - Posted 12/17/09 @2:33PM by GreeneWolfe [contact]

...also, I got sick and tired of these fat families with their children telling me to sit down during the Rush concerts I attended for the Snakes and Arrows Tour. THIS IS ROCK & ROLL...WHY ARE YOU SITTING DOWN...WHY DONT YOU RENT THE DVD WHEN IT COMES OUT SO YOU CAN PLANT YOUR FATASS ON YOUR SOFA!!! At Phish concerts everyone is dancing and not talking! I personally think the scene sucks at Rush shows. I will always be a fan of these three amazing musicians (probably the best to ever grace the planet) but these people at the shows are a real disappointment.

SEATTLE TOUR DATE PLEASE! (or at least the gorge or White River), but preferrably SEATTLE!!!!!!!!

Rush please return to Washington State!
#42 - Posted 12/17/09 @2:57PM by katskahnne [contact]

Oh, yeah, I remember GA. The good old days, like you said, Jaybird and GedHed. Now it's seemingly all about the secondary market. After having missed the last several tours due to everything from hospitalization to being overseas to being homeless, I declared the next Rush tour the Failure Is Not An Option tour for me. I AM GOING TO SOME SHOWS. My family is behind me 100%. They "get" it, I'm happy to say. We just sort of got a "triple whammy" thrown at us this week that I don't want to go into, but if anything it makes me more determined than ever not to miss them. If I have to wait my turn til after the South American tour, cool - after Rush In Rio, I've got nothing but love for those fans.

But back to the subject of most devout fans getting bast seats...back in the late 1970's I attended a public meeting held by a local radio station regarding ticket scalping, and addressed the issue of arena box office security turning a deliberate blind eye to immediate-post-sales scalping, simply telling the offenders to "go over there where we can't see you". Security officials, artist management, arena staff and radio station PD (all present) all seemed highly concerned. 30 years later, the problem's grown exponentially worse and systemic sympathy seems to have dropped off the map. But even back then, there was next to nothing the artist could do about it. Has that changed? I don't know...if anything there are even more fires they'd have to stomp out to do anything to remedy the situation. I remember U2 ticket sales in the mid-80's and how attempts to see that those of us who camped out overnight at the ticket office got the better seats. Somehow it didn't work out that way. Some of the "suits" and their paid help, who didn't even particularly care for the band, were only too happy to brave a night sleeping on the sidewalk. They knew what the "secondary market" was going to net them.

So, between now and whenever the tour dates are unveiled and ticket sales planned, hopefully we'll end up with a steady and livable income so we can save up for those fat scalper fees we'll no doubt be looking at. The spirit is more than willing, but the economy and job market are on life support...

#39/40 -
Main floor is generally for standing. I got tickets for main floor for Rush once, but was half way back and it sucked ,looking past a bunch of heads and people in front of us, so we looked around and spotted empty seats in lower bowl beside the stage and SAT and watched. It was way better. I also saw Rush in Columbus Ohio on the Vapor Trails tour and had great seats in the pavillion. Usually, at concerts I've been to, everyone is standing for the first few songs ,then gradually sits down ,but not at this show. Everyone stood the whole time. I had my 12 year old son with me and had to hold him up or he stood on the seat to see past all the inconsiderate asses who stood the whole time. Others ,who wanted to sit to watch..were also annoyed. Not everyone wants to stand for a whole show, buddy. Some people want to sit and enjoy and watch and listen and take it all in. Pretty self centered attitude you have, there. (and Im not fat, either)
#44 - Posted 12/17/09 @4:52PM by Tom [contact]

hmm..i would prefer they tour with new material in 2010 - not promote yet another live offering - and if they can squeeze a few obscure tracks in the list. but if i had the choice - new material wins.
#45 - Posted 12/17/09 @5:32PM by GedHed [contact]

Oh...just wanna' clarify one thing I said...when I spoke of sitting down, I meant *before* the show starts, not during. Once the lights dim (for me, anyway), I'm on my feet and ready to *rock*!!! And then it seems I blink and the 3-hour show is behind me...so it's on to the next! ;D

Man...cannot wait for some tour dates! Eeeeeeeee!
#46 - Posted 12/17/09 @6:56PM by GreeneWolfe [contact]

#43....I have no problem with people sitting. What I have a problem with is people who are sitting telling me to sit down! I almost came to blows with some drunk fool behind me who kept shouting for me to sit down and tapping on my shoulder. This happened to me in Dallas, Virginia, and San Diego. I must say, When I went to the Toronto shows EVERYBODY stood the entire time. Nice home crowd! This is why I am so grateful Phish is back! Every Phish show you get a different setlist and everyone dances. If I were self centered like you intimated that would mean that I would be the one trying to impose my preferences on others. Go ahead and sit, but do not tell me to sit down. Do you think a rock band would like to see their audience sitting, or going crazy? I think you know the answer to that question. And I am not your buddy so do not reference me in that manner.
#47 - Posted 12/17/09 @7:39PM by TMMB [contact]

Phish? really?
#48 - Posted 12/17/09 @7:47PM by primemover [contact]

:) re: pretty "out there" with my prediction of 2012+100=2112... after i typed that, i realized that my original "prediction" at the end of S&A was a "...tour that started in 2011 and ended in 2012 with a total of 100 shows; 2012+100=2112..."

indeed, 100 shows in one year is a bit MUCH, but over the course of 2 summers (like in S&A) they "could" approach that... anyway, when it does NOT happen, i'll buy someone that beer!

;)
#49 - Posted 12/17/09 @8:10PM by katskahnne [contact]

Nada on the KLOS site yet...but then they hit L.A. last year so we may be pretty far down the tour list...::shrugs:: All the more time to save up!
#50 - Posted 12/17/09 @8:45PM by spiralarray [contact]

#46- Obviously you ARE self centered. If you are in a SEATING area and you are STANDING in front of people who want to SIT in their SEATS, then you NOT THEM are in the wrong. If you want to stand, get tickets for main floor.
I can't even get my head around your "logic" at all. You complain about people who want to sit and be able to see Rush from the SEATS THEY BOUGHT TICKETS FOR? You think that because you want to stand, it's ok for you to stand in front of people who might happen to want to sit ,while SEEING Rush and someone like you, who thinks they are the center of the universe wants to stand whether they block someone's view or not? Yikes!!
I won't say what I really think of you, here!
#51 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:00PM by idrum2 [contact]

A tour for Working Men? Give me a break! Did they do a "Chronicles," "Retrospective," "Spirit of Radio," or "Rush Gold" tours? No. Working Men was a pathetic attempt by Atlantic to throw something out there in time for Christmas.

IMHO, Rush will have something new in the works for a tour. Either they have music already written that will be recorded quickly. Or, a digital ep of material yet to be written. Maybe a symphonic tour of Rush classics. I tend to think that they already have material ready to be recorded, if they're already talking about a tour within a definite time frame.

The B-side tour is a tantalizing idea, but the realist in me says no. That was just Alex talking. He seems to be the visionary/dreamer of the group. When Geddy starts talking about something, you know it is likely to come to pass. Of course, Neil is likely always the hardest sell.

On a side note, I found out that the studio they used in NY for S&A went out of business.
#52 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:01PM by Rob [contact]

I have mixed feelings about the sitting/standing issue. I stood at all six shows I went to on the S&A tour. I saw Rush in Indy on the VT tour and sat for most of the show (The whole section did actually). Both experiences were fine....I really don't mind standing..but it's not like you dance at a Rush show.
#53 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:04PM by GreeneWolfe [contact]

#50....Rock and Roll is for dancing. If you want to sit, go to the opera. Do you really think I care what you think about me? Bands feed off the energy of their audience. Many times the audience plays the band. They don't want to see a bunch of boring, lazy fans (are they really fans?) sitting down like they are in church. Look at the Rush in Rio DVD. Look how animated that crowd was. I never saw any crowd like that in the States at any shows. America=boring, overwieght, automated, sexual repressed, and ignorant enough to elect the like of George W. Bush.
#54 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:04PM by GreeneWolfe [contact]

TWICE!!
#55 - Posted 12/17/09 @10:43PM by limelighter [contact]

as far as i am concerned you can do whatever you want at a rush concert. the fact is you paid for the damn ticket. you can do whatever within reason, of course
#56 - Posted 12/17/09 @11:06PM by spiralarray [contact]

#53- (Greenwolfe)..
Ok, according to your logic..
Anyone who likes to SIT, to watch Rush at their shows:
- is fat
- voted for George Bush (huh? Im Canadian!)
- should go to an Opera
- isn't really a Rush fan

Interesting logic you have ,there.
It happens (I know many of you have seen Rush way more times) I have seen Rush 9 times over the years, mostly around Detroit, once in Toronto and once in Columbus ,Ohio. Of all those shows ,90% of the time everyone around me sat, to watch. They stood for the first few songs, then gradually sat down for the rest of the show. It was only in Columbus, Ohio that everyone stood the whole time, even though it was the pavillion (not mainfloor in front of stage. I find it more comfortable sitting to watch a Rush show. I like to take in the whole visceral experience of the show. I pay good money for the tickets and want to enjoy it.
One thing I will agree on, is the crowds in the Rush on Rio DVD were awesome. I loved the enthusiasm too!
But people can be enthusiastic about Rush and enjoy the show without standing, jumping, dancing, etc. I never said one was right, the other was wrong. That would be YOU, saying that. All I said was, my opinion is...if you want to jump around, dance, stand...get main floor tickets!! If you are standing in front of people who want to sit to watch, you are being inconsiderate!
I would be willing to bet....Alex, Geddy and Neil would all prefer sitting to watch the bands they go see in concert, as well.
If I happened to get tickets for the first few rows in front of the stage, well ...duh...of course I'd want to stand and I'd be an idiot if I expected to sit on mainfloor. The same should apply the other way around, if you buy tickets for a section with seats!
#57 - Posted 12/17/09 @11:14PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Keep bringing on the news ED! One sneaky brutha you are..;)
I love the enthusiasm of the majority of these posts!
OMG, the negative folks are going to be eating crow (Tastes like a cross between chicken and rat BTW).

#40 GreenWolfe-Even though I agree with your sitting, standing scenario, calling folks fat is pretty uncool dude. Remember what happened to Ross Halfin after he made the buffalo comment? If I am not mistaken, the dude is now an ex-Rush photographer......BTW-I just weighed in at 320 lbs the other day and proud of it. The doctor told me to watch my pellet consumption.

#50 spiralyearningfortheoldagehomearray sez- "You think that because you want to stand, it's ok for you to stand in front of people who might happen to want to sit". ROFL!This is RUSH pal!! I don't give a flying f&*@ where my seats are. If anyone is sitting in back of me at a Rush concert, they will not be able to see the stage. Period. No way, no how am I sitting down for anyone during my 3 hours of rat euphoria. If those funny little sittin people have anything smart to say about it, I hope they know how to dial 911.......
#58 - Posted 12/17/09 @11:34PM by spiralarray [contact]

#57-
I could seriously rip into you here, bigtime, but I think I will just say you ,"pal" , sound like one major tool of a guy! You are the "air guitarist" though, if Im not mistaken...so..well..uhh, I think that kinda says it all.

Wanting to sit,to watch Rush...has nothing to do with my age (40) or being "able" (in a tennis league, regularly workout, etc, etc) to stand for a whole show. It is just my preference, and many others. I am seeing more and more in these blogs on here, that I used to be wrong when I would have expected Rush fans to be a certain way . I see there are some real knuckleheads who happen to be Rush fans out there.
Go ahead though...more chest pounding tough guy neanderthal talk is coming from you ,Im sure. Haha. Whatever "pal".

P.S (#57)..any of the Rush shows I've been to...when pretty much the whole section I was in was sitting and there were the 3-4 people ahead standing ...I seem to recall seeing and hearing lots of people yelling, telling them to sit down. It's not just me who prefers to sit and enjoy the show. I never understood it, myself. You get tickets for a section with seats..and you stand in front of people? Weird! Do ya get it, Lance? You want to be Mr Rockout guy? Get tickets for mainfloor. You could really impress Rush with your amazing air guitar skills if they saw you up close!! Pffft!

Thank you Lance! Spiralarray wants to sit like a good little boy at the rock concert. I never said he couldn't...but I am with you Lance..if he happens to be SITTING behind us...he will miss the show without standing....pfft!

jeez, serious battle going on here.... Maybe I'll just squat on my seat at the next Rush show, find the middle grOund.

LATE NIGHT UNK! Knowing you, there is no damn way you are sitting in your seat during a Rush concert bro.

#58 and 59 Sorry spiral!! I didn't realize you were a vocabularic genius! And a Rush fan in a tennis league to boot! My bad........BTW, that's Mr. Neand-AIR-thal to you dude:

three cheers for The Fabulous Men (see the Autumn Serenade) whatever the hell they're up to...:)

I was thinking about this last night. There is NO WAY that RUSH is gonna tour in order to promote Working Men. Three reasons

1. The item is a compilation - there haven't been any Retrospective tours.
2. It was released months before the tour would begin.
3. All the material has been available for years already on the original dvds and cds.

I just don't see how they could promote this NEXT year. Therefore, I submit, that we will have new music for next year's tour, where I will be standing up :)

spiralarray, you're a real douche.......save your energy for the gym and tennis court.....

loz @ Lance and rocinante5m! xD

I dunno...maybe it's different in Canada? I realize I was only at 4 shows last tour, but I sat anywhere from 2nd row to 17th row...and the only people who were sitting down at the shows I went to were the whiney little chicks whose boyfriends/husbands dragged them to shows--and they shouldn't have been there in the first place. It is funny to see though...in St. Louis while everyone else was on their feet, I squatted down for about 5 seconds in between songs out of curiosity just to quickly count how many pouting chicks I could see from where we were (13th row). I counted 3 with arms folded and feet propped up on the seats in front of them--and a couple seats to my right was another chick sitting...but she was obviously tanked to the point where she couldn't even see straight. Gave me a chuckle...and then the guys were rockin' again, so it was back to business for me! Hehe! I just cannot *wait*! I am *so* excited! I want tour dates! Ruuuuushhhhh! :D

#66 - I think all 3 shows I went to in 2008 you were at also, if I remember correctly (KC, St. Louis, Indy). I didn't see more than just a handful of people sitting down at any of those shows. Everyone was standing up and rocking out, even out on the lawn. If someone ever told me to sit down at a concert, I would politely let them know that if they want to sit they can enjoy RUSH on DVD, or Blu-ray, in their living room.
#68 - Posted 12/18/09 @10:10AM by GedHed [contact]

#67: Aww, man...I wish I'd known you at that time!!! Where were you standing? We were 5th row center in KC, 13th row Ged side St. Louis, 17th row (best we could snag) Alex's side in Indy. Did you go to the Bonner Springs show in '07? That was the best show ever for me and Nat. 2nd row Ged side. We were literally 8 feet at most from him. We were right at his mic. Amazing. Surreal, even!!! Yeah, it's true people pay for their seats, but that doesn't give them the right to control everyone else around them. Thankfully it's never been an issue for us at Rush shows. It just seems to be understood that you wear some comfy shoes & expect to stand--which is my preference anyway. I jus tknow I could never contain myself to *sit* at a Rush concert! omg...how does anyone do that unless they have no choice? ;) And I just don't notice the time, the heat, or anything else at a Rush show. I do sit during intermission, but that's it. I do not *move* from my seat, which is why I don't eat or drink much at all the day of any show. If I was a guy it'd be different, but for we women, the restroom lines are so long & slow moving...no way I'll risk missing a split second of the guys. We wait way too long to get there & see these shows! No *way*!!! lol!

****Stands up and applause****(No pun intended) to my rat friends Rocman, Honestman and GedHed. My only hope is that we can all stand up together at a tour venue strategically planned around RatCon 2010! That would so easy to schedule that.......................even a caveman could do it ;)
#70 - Posted 12/18/09 @12:30PM by spiralarray [contact]

haha. Very likely juvenille response from you Lance (and his entourage). I guess that should be expected from a (I assume anyway) grown man who gets his jollies from being an "expert" air- guitarist. Now, that is funny.
You can keep going with the sit vs. stand thing if you want, but I'm gonna put this one behind me. Kind of futile to "argue" with people with the mentality you have. (sorta like arguing with a child)
Done? Yes, done.
#71 - Posted 12/18/09 @12:54PM by rocinante5m [contact]

dude, you just keep showing how big of a douche you really are.....some people try to take the high road and act like they're too good, but it's not working coming from you.......you have no idea what type of person Lance is....there's a reason why he has "his entourage" on this site........he's one of the coolest, kindest, classiest, funniest, energetic and passionate people i have ever met........so basically what i'm saying is that, you're barking up the wrong tree and your pompous little attitude isn't fooling anyone.........no one likes an internet tough-guy.....just because people didn't see things your way shouldn't make you sore and attack people..........my advice to you, leave it alone and go play with your tennis buddies.......you have as much class as SirLance has in his pinkie toe..........

Ed, my apologies, but had to say what needed to be said.....
#72 - Posted 12/18/09 @1:47PM by GreeneWolfe [contact]

Alas, somebody put this fool spiralarray in his place....Lance, you are one funny dude!!!!
#73 - Posted 12/18/09 @2:18PM by GedHed [contact]

#70: spiral, I have done my best to ignore you, but I'm just not going to *stand* here (xD) and watch you whoop up on Lance. Not even maybe. It's not cool, and its not exactly mensa behavior to pull that here. Lance is one of the most dedicated, Rush savvy Rush-rats on the planet, the best air-drummer ever, and one of the coolest, kindest dudes I've ever met. Not only that, the dude *knows* how to throw a Rush bash, and he is just *so* generous and sweet--and funny as the day is long. You really don't know who you're dissing. If you did, I hope you would have sufficient conscience to be ashamed & embarrassed. You can count me as one proud rat to be included in Lance's "entourage." Thank you for the compliment!

#69: Oh--and Lance...*can't wait* for Ratcon 2010! Is that gonna' rock or what?Ratcon 2010 complete with Rush shows! Wooo-hooooo! :D
#75 - Posted 12/18/09 @2:47PM by spiralarray [contact]

Uggh. For god sakes, who are you people??? If you check back to the earlier comments I made (about how I feel about people standing in front of people sitting in seats) ,I wasn't even talking to Lance the air guitarist extraordinaire. He decided to come into it, belittle me (or try to) and if you check back you will also see Lance isn't exactly Mr Innocent nice guy. A few others have been jumping in, making juvenille comments toward me. So, don't tell me about me insulting Lance. If Lance doesn't want his own medicine, he shouldn't dish it out. I stated a comment. Lance ,as I've seen before, took it to a different (juvenille, idiotic, hypocritical) level. So yeah, I responded to that.
I'm done with the topic I commented on originally, though- like I said. I'm no "internet tough guy" anymore than Lance or any of you are. I come on this site to see if there's any Rush news and I've been impressed with what I see. As far as the blog goes, I check it out ,I sometimes comment. I don't want to be part of your Rush clique whatsoever, so it's perfectly fine with me if a few of you think I am an ass. I couldn't care less.

Guys, I'm shutting down this thread. Please refrain from this type of discussion and don't carry it over to another thread.
