CBC Canadian music history documentaries available on DVD
Posted at 6:41PM | comments (8)

A couple of months ago two new documentaries exploring the Canadian music scene in the '70s and '80s were shown on the CBC over a series of 4 weeks. The documentaries were titled This Beat Goes On and Rise Up respectively. Rush along with several other Canadian artists were featured and the documentaries included new interview segments with Geddy Lee. Reader RushFanForever gave some great reports on the Rush content of each documentary in this post. Both documentaries will be available for purchase on DVD on Tuesday, December 8th and can be pre-ordered at the following links: This Beat Goes On, Rise Up. According to BW&BK a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the DVDs will go to support MusiCounts, Canada's music education charity associated with the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, which helps to keep music alive in schools across the country. Thanks to John at Cygnus-X1.net and RushFanForever for the heads up.

I was the one who sent John at Cygnus X-1 the information. :D

For the Canadians, you can buy the DVD's on Amazon.ca where you won't have to pay the import fees. :D

JohnnyTRacer - no I am not taking steroids. :D

I have sources where I search stuff out.

Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles is a metal news site that posts news about hard rock and heavy metal bands. They also post Rush news.

Martin Popoff (who is involved in the upcoming Rush documentary and is author of the Rush biography 'Contents Under Pressure') is editor-in-chief of Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles.

Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles uses Rushisaband and the Power Windows sites as reference hubs for their Rush news.

Occasionally, Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles may have something posted that the other Rush news sites can use for reference.

These were excellent music documentaries - I highly recommend them!!! Even if you are not Canadian a music buff would appreciate them.

I just finished the fifth and final hour of the Backstage Secrets documentary. The whole thing was really fantastic. I highly recommend it to anyone who ever wondered about the work and preparation that went into putting together such a high quality show. Plus, there are a quite a few shots of the RUSH performing and a few quick interviews.

To anyone who hopes or wishes that RUSH would modify their set list from show to show can just forget about it. This video really demonstrates the staggering amount of work and effort that is required to organize the lights, video, monitors, pyro effects, etc. I would say it is absolutely impossible for RUSH to change songs during the tour and still maintain the same overall atmosphere of their shows. It takes months of careful planning to organize the shows, and I just don't see how they modify it. That being said, let's hope they plan on getting started soon so we can have a 2010 tour!!

There is also a CBC Canadian music history documentary on DVD titled 'Shakin' All Over' which tells the story of music from the 50's and 60's era.
