Geddy Lee confirmed as guest judge for Canadian chef cook-off
Posted at 12:26PM | comments (23)

Canada's National Post reported the following piece of Geddy Lee news in today's edition:

... rocker Geddy Lee is (hopefully) saving up his appetite. He's confirmed as a "guest judge" at the great Canadian chef cook-off known as the "Gold Medal Plates," happening next week at the Convention Centre.

From the Gold Medal Plates website:

Gold Medal Plates is the ultimate celebration of Canadian Excellence in cuisine, wine, entertainment and athletic achievement. Celebrating in six cities across Canada in 2009, Gold Medal Plates will feature superb wines and the premier chefs in each city, paired with Canadian Olympic and Paralympic athletes, in a competition to crown a gold, silver and bronze medal culinary team in each city, and subsequently nation-wide.

Founded in 2003, the goal of Gold Medal Plates is to raise substantial funds for Canada's high performance athletes, while celebrating Canadian excellence. Since 2004, this event has received tremendous support and accolades all across Canada, and generated a combined net total of $2.8 million for Canada's Olympic and Paralympic athletes!

Geddy will be appearing at the Toronto event which takes place next Thursday, November 19th at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Thanks to RushFanForever for the heads up.

I hope a video of this appears on YouTube someday. I love watching the cooking shows that are judged (Iron Chef, Top Chef, Chopped, etc.)

I wonder..... how will he react if he eats something that he doesn't like at ALL? LOL!

This has the potential of being a laugh riot. Did anyone else see the episode of Top Chef where the contestants had to do a Thanksgiving meal for Foo Fighters and their crew while they were in NYC? OMG...I'm sure Geddy won't come up with anything quite as harsh as "barfait", but with his knowledge of wine and two bandmates who are pretty accomplished in the kitchen themselves, the bar's gonna be set pretty high!

Oh these poor chef's. Just wait till they meet the discerning tastes of the world's most interesting man.

Because of the McKenzie brothers, all I know of Canadian cuisine is back bacon and beer...

S'mores are a Canadian dish, too, right?

Makes sense not to interview the biggest person to COME OUT of this music scene??? NO!!

Excuse me while I bore myself to sleep with this.

I wonder what note Geddy will let out if he tastes a very spicey dish......:-)

I found the following on the RushTour.com forum.

Someone mentioned a special appearance by Guy Fieri of the Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives two days ago. He was doing a cooking demo and was cutting up bell peppers really fast and fancy and the whole audience was cheering. He looks up and says "kinda like a Rush drum solo".

The episode might be available on the Food Network Video Library Index.

Scroll down and click on '"Diners, Drives-ins and Dives" Full Episodes' and it might be there.

I bet Neil probably views shows on the Food Network since cooking is a passion of his, which is why he has the 'Bubba's Bar & Grill' page on his website.

This is way off topic, but I came across this Johnny "Rotten" interview from a couple of years ago. Like him or hate him, he does speak the truth. I thought his views of the RRHOF and Rolling Stone magazine were very fitting :-)

^^^ Unfortunately, it was a false sighting for the Neil part. Neil is still at home in LA.
I'm sure Big Al might have been there, but whoever he saw, it was not Neil.

First off, why would Neil even attend the Orbit Room at all?

It is well known that he loathes fan encounters and does not enjoy big crowds. It was surprising for many to see him at the 'I Love You Man' premiere. That is not typical of Neil at all.

It would possibly be difficult for some people to ignore and leave him alone in peace. The above that I have described would make him feel uncomfortable.

I am not trying to sound harsh about this or judge him, but it does not seem like something he would typically do or want to do.

Neil would probably prefer to be at the Orbit Room after hours without the hassle of the above.

# 13 ghost__rider - no offense to you or your buddy, but I think your friend may possibly have had a little bit too much to drink that night and thought he saw Neil come in, when it wasn't him. I sincerely apologize if this comes across harsh when it isn't my intention to do so.

So, I think it is safe to say that the "Future of Rush" meeting in CA has not happened yet?

I've been seeing more and more bands doing their classic albums in their entirety. I love this concept - as I'm sure many of you "a.o.r." fans out there do as well.

I've been seeing "the Musical Box" doing recreations of classic Genesis shows & Cleveland's own Paul Fayrewether doing genesis' "a trick of the tail" in its entirety.

Next week I'll be seeing steely dan do "the royal scam" and "aja" albums on consecutive nights.

the interesting thing with Rush, however, is that if they ever did their 2 best albums (Waves & Pics) in their entirety, it would be rather anticlimactic, especially with MP ending with Witch Hunt & Vital signs. (weep-wow)

So, i'm suggesting that if they ever did this, they should perform the track listings from these albums in REVERSE order. In each album's case, it would pick up steam until ending with the biggest hits.

these are the things i think about while i'm slacking off at work.

#17 Perhaps it was Tom Hanks or Kevin Spacey :)

It's simply not logical

Ged on a cooking show? This very well could be a must watch, and it is with me.

Rush doing a "Classic Album(s)" in its/their entirety? To me that is a sell out and I bet the boys see it that way too. Take Judas Priest, Nostradamus did not do as well as expected, so they dusted off British Steel in its entirety. Now, I love the Priest, but is this not another take on a Greatest hits set?

Now I can see Rush doing a cross album piece, like all four songs in The Fear Trilogy or Cygnus X1 followed by Hemispheres. 2112 in it's entirety would be incredibly awesome, but bet they save that one for R40!
