Rush passed over for the Rock Hall in 2010
Posted at 9:41AM | comments (100)

Rush and the Rock Hall[Kiss, Genesis, ABBA, LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers lead Rock Hall nominees list for 2010]

It's time for the annual snubbing of Rush by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The list of nominees for induction in 2010 was just announced and once again Rush is not on the list. No surprise there, but I was pleasantly surprised by a couple of the choices. This year's list includes first time nominees Kiss, Jimmy Cliff, Genesis, The Hollies, LL Cool J, Laura Nyro and the Red Hot Chili Peppers along with previous nominees ABBA, The Chantels, Darlene Love, The Stooges and Donna Summer. I'm really happy that Kiss and Genesis are finally getting a nod. We'll see if the nominating committee is serious about these choices when they finally whittle the list down to the 5 actual inductees in January. I think this bodes well for Rush's chances in the next few years. For a great running history of Rush's now 11-year-old annual snubbing by the Rock Hall, check out this page at the Power Windows site. Thanks to brihar73 for the heads up.

Not cool... Oh well. Everyone knows they deserve it so I guess they don't really need to be in it.
#2 - Posted 9/23/09 @10:16AM by mrdriven [contact]

Number 2 ! as in 2 U2 shows (followed by PT with the rat-cupines in baltimore)

the RRHOF can kiss my @$$
#3 - Posted 9/23/09 @10:24AM by Sirius [contact]

LOL!!!

NO SH*T Sherlock??..=O

pff..At least they inducted Kiss...so probably Rush is not far behind..2011 or 2012 in my opinion..whatever..life goes on..as long as it doesnt affect the band to release albums and touring!!
#4 - Posted 9/23/09 @10:32AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

Boy, these posts about the RRHOF don't even upset me anymore.

The fact that LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are on the list is a joke.
#5 - Posted 9/23/09 @10:38AM by SheZillA [contact]

At this point in time it just insulting! Even if they were to be inducted in the future I think it should be a kind thank you but no! It is a disgusting slap in the face.
#6 - Posted 9/23/09 @10:55AM by beckyv8888 [contact]

LL Cool J??? Really? The next Rush album will be titled "That's Bull Shit"
#7 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:02AM by The Clansman 2112 [contact]

Hmmmm....I'm just wondering, if maybe as some sort of inside joke, they are waiting to induct the boys in 2012, 100 years from 2112???

Just thinking....
#8 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:08AM by The Clansman 2112 [contact]

Darlene Love????? I have never heard of Darlene Love before and she's in before Rush???

What a joke....
#9 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:18AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

#7 - Wouldn't that be something LOL? All this time everyone had just been playing a joke on us! Then again, I think we are more likely to see them open a concert with Tai Shan than for the induction to happen that way.
#10 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:18AM by Runkerry [contact]

Ed says its no surprise that Rush are not on the list of nominees and he is right. To be blunt, who cares? Id be a bit upset if Rush were on the same list as Kiss, the trashiest band on the planet.

Id hate to think of our boys sharing a platform with Gene Simmons! Sorry to say this if you are a Kiss fan; its a subjective choice/comment but we all know which band is best!

We would do well to forget the R&R Hall in my view : )
#11 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:25AM by Scott_PA [contact]

I don't mind the Rush snub at this point... it is almost a badge of honor that they are not included in the worthless Hall. But, how in the hell do LL Cool J and the Chili Peppers make the list? Not that the Peppers are bad or anything, but what impact have they had that warrants inclusion?? And LL Cool J... well, I just don't get that whole genre, and would certainly not call it "Rock" let alone worthy of distinction.

Oh well...
#12 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:26AM by #1rushfan [contact]

At this point I would rather not have Rush in this so called hall of fame. How can they possibly even think of LL Cool J before Rush. HOW??? Why??? How??? The hall of shame can go to hell.
#13 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:54AM by gttim [contact]

RRHOF is pretty much a joke. I won't be upset if Rush does not make it. It is pretty much a political thing to get in. It is not based on talent, body of work or contributions to the genre. LL Cool J? I like the guy, but seriously, in the RRHOF? Knock me out. The Stooges and The Hollies are the only ones on that list who deserve it. KISS maybe, not for their music, but how they did change how music was marketed. And who does not like KISS Alive (1). That is a fun record.
#14 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:57AM by gttim [contact]

Who doesn't love LL Cool J in this:

#15 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:05PM by SheZillA [contact]

Maybe we should gather at the hall on February 1st 2012 and have our own induction...thoughts?
#16 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:08PM by entrenous [contact]

i think LL Cool J was in rush at one point, so i'm happy.
#17 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:09PM by steve k

I think it would be an issue if I actually took the HOF seriously. As Paul Stanley has (now ironically) noted on more than one occassion, it really is little more than a bunch of welathy guys and gals putting their bestest pals on the nominating committe and choosing a lot of their friends. I'm sorry to see Genesis and Kiss nominated because I have trenendous respect for both bands (for differing reasons). If they get in, it will do little but legitamize what is obviously a corrupted sham.
#18 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:10PM by xanadau1 [contact]

The hall of fame is a joke. I am happy to finally see genesis on this list. They are also deserving. I don't mean any disrespect for RUSH.
#19 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:22PM by craig [contact]

i thank my lucky stars every day that RUSH does not get considered for the hall. if LLCOOLJ has a place in any hall of fame, i would want my favorite band to be in a place farthest from. and thank you, they are.

the hall of fame needs RUSH. RUSH needs NOT the h.o.f.

#20 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:22PM by Sage [contact]

I realize this may sound like sour grapes, but I'm actually happy about this. I don't want to see Rush inducted. The idea that Jann Wenner and his cronies would decide for us who does and doesn't belong in the hall of fame runs counter to the democratization of rock and roll. You'll notice that Wenner never put them on the cover of Rolling Stone, either, and I've read interviews with Geddy where he states that as a point of pride. The fact that Rush is still going strong while all these other defunct bands are being "honored" with inclusion in an increasingly irrelevant museum is part of Rush's charm.

The Hall of Fame is where dead bands go to die. Rush doesn't belong there.
#21 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:30PM by mrdriven [contact]

well said Sage....you truly are one!
#22 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:40PM by hermy [contact]

"As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records."

The masses have spoken! They have plenty of FAME. The have HALLs of gold and platinum records. Rush is ROCK AND ROLL!

#23 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:46PM by wbrodyjr [contact]

Sage, you said it well. Why do we even bother to get upset about this any more? I think it's more productive just to ignore the HOF (I won't even bother to type it out) from now on. I live near Detroit, and I have NO interest of trekking there to see it.

Interesting aside...Rush speak highly of Kiss. They used to open for Kiss in the early- to mid-70's. I think Neil said something to the effect that "they're all about the music," which cracks me up - those guys took makeup and pyrotechnics way over the top!
#24 - Posted 9/23/09 @12:58PM by dedlift [contact]

LL Cool J.
Lame Lame Cool J.
Donna Summer the gold standard of rock.

I think there's a type-o in the first paragraph.

Were the STOOGES previously nominated? It's apparent that there are Stooges in charge of the rrhof...Iggy Pop is one talented dude.

rrhof=irrelevant.
#25 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:00PM by dedlift [contact]

...and if Gene Simmons get ahold of a microphone...and you know he will...I'll bet $ that he mentions RUSH.
#26 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:10PM by Kelly D [contact]

I've talked with Ms. Donna Halper about this on many occasions- she knows full well that Rush will never get into the RRHOF as long as Jann Wenner and all the journalists from the 1970s who are now on the executive board are in charge. She has numerous magazine/newspaper articles written in 1974 and 1975 that trash Rush to prove it.

I'm also fairly certain that the guys couldn't care less- which makes the graphic posted here a little disconcerting. Like Ged and the guys would EVER make a fuss about something this ridiculous :P
#27 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:21PM by Xanadu_2112 [contact]

Well, say what you will about KISS, they are one of the biggest and most successful rock outfits ever... I think it's about time. Genesis is an amazing band, and I'll be really happy if they get it, but it's unfortunate to say that if they had not gone pop in the 80's they probably wouldn't even be considered because of their accomplishments in the 70's, which was an incredible time for them with Gabriel/Hackett/Rutherford/Collins/Banks, their classic lineup. Maybe this could bring up their reunion.

Rush doesn't make the RARHOF... FUCK THE RARHOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LONG LIVE RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#28 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:25PM by Zitro [contact]

NO COMMENT. Except to say that my Mom always told me: "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."

RUSHROKS.
#29 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:30PM by Will Collier [contact]

The Chili Peppers? Seriously?

Lerxst is right--the HOF is a joke.
#30 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:30PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Sage! (and many above), Well said and sour grapes my ass-You are absolutely correct. This is WAY too late in the game for Rush to be considered to this bullshit institution. Fricke and Wenner have a long standing feud with Rush as it is anyway. Said it before-If Rush ever gets inducted, the clutch thing to do would be to turn it down. That would get more publicity then an acceptance. It is an absolute JOKE at this point......

I would love to tie these two idiots up like Gulliver and Krazy Glue rat ears and whiskers on em. After the "willardization", I would then cable tie headphones to their nasty little rat heads with some 1974-2007 delights.

The R&R Hall of Fame does not deserve Rush. Period.
#31 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:36PM by Tom [contact]

I would n't be too bothered about R&R - it sounds like a museum for dead things. more important they record and tour. btw, regarding LL Cool J - i've a Roll the Bones single - which has an interview with Neil talking about the song and how they considered having a guest rapping on it - in particular LL Cool J but they thought about the longevity factor and went for that instead - Neil talks also about what he liked about the putting together of lyrics in rap - mentions internal rhymes etc. but going back to the main point, yes, the list is a joke!
#32 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:38PM by Joe

I persoanlly do not know a single person who cares about The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Do any of you? The whole concept is a gimmicky charade that plays off the real sports halls of fame to steal money from Cleveland Tourists.

It has about as much merit as those rock and roll brackets that come out every March to coincide with the NCAA Tornament. Rush vs A/C, Metallica vs Aerosmith, etc.

Making the Baseball Hall of Fame is an honor. Making the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is meaningless. I will never visit it, or give a rat's ass who gets nominated.
#33 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:44PM by Margo [contact]

A certain event that has happened in the last week has led me to believe that the old saying is 100% true; WHAT GOES AROUND, COMES AROUND, and like a certain person we all once knew, Fricke and Wenner will get what coming to them for keeping Rush out just to inflate their own egos.

As for the Hall of Shame, its not a place I ever wish to visit despite the fact there are some good bands that are in.
#34 - Posted 9/23/09 @1:58PM by craig [contact]

and to gene and paul of KISS: ask ace and peter if it is REALLY about the music...

Hall of Fame, Schmall of Fame ... When do we get a Vapor Trails remix?!?
#36 - Posted 9/23/09 @2:12PM by Lamb Saag [contact]

C'mon, who cares anymore? The RRHOF is small potatoes compared to...
"MUSICIANS OF THE MILLENNIUM"
link
#37 - Posted 9/23/09 @2:26PM by katskahnne [contact]

I think it was Geddy that once said in an interview that the only reason being excluded from the RRHOF bothered them was because it bothered their fans, and that is just one more reason they deserve respect - they give a (redacted) about their fans.

I was hopeful, I'll admit it, I was thinking this might be the "critical mass" year...but you know what, I've been wrong before, I was wrong this time, and being human I'll be wrong again. I'll admit to it bothering me...THIS time.

Rush are already enshrined in a far more relevant environment - the influence on and affection of countless talented, creative and, in many cases, themselves influential musicians.

And heck...they've got US.

Give me a day or two; I'll get over it. In the overall scheme of things it's not that important. It just bugs me to see them disrespected. But if it's a bug up Jann Wenner's (redacted) that's keeping them out...that's petty, and it demeans and minimizes the whole "Hall of Fame" concept. Maybe Rush really ARE too good for 'em.
#38 - Posted 9/23/09 @2:27PM by Rocinante [contact]

A la Stephen Colbert Rush's next album shoulb be titled "That's Bullshit!"
#39 - Posted 9/23/09 @2:34PM by Spindrifter [contact]

Hahaha... And this year into the RRRHOShame is ABBA and LL Cool J!

What a freaking joke. I would love for Rush to go in with Kiss! But, who would be the next band of the same hype to go and that hasnt yet?
#40 - Posted 9/23/09 @2:59PM by State of Grace [contact]

What do I think of the RRHOF? I nominate Milli Vanilli to get in next year - LMAO. The RRHOF is so messed up and confused I wouldn't be surprised if they actually did it.

Wikipedia link below if you don't know who Milli Vanilli are:

link

Key word in RRHOF is ROCK! The way they are doing things it should be called the MUSIC Hall of Fame. They have so many genres in there that I don't understand why they use the word ROCK!?

PEACE...
#41 - Posted 9/23/09 @3:07PM by musicofthespheres [contact]

nothin like a RRHOF post to elicit a RIAB roll call. nice to see all the different names.

i assume our disdain for the hall has no impact on it. too bad they get away w. such idiocy and bias.

for fun, i compared inductee lists for Canadian and Rock and Roll halls. For those in both, here are their induction years (Canadian/R&R):

Joni Mitchell - 1981/1997
Neil Young - 1982/1995
The Band - 1989/1994
#42 - Posted 9/23/09 @3:52PM by dadof4 [contact]

Rock and Roll Hall of What????
Shattered illusion's of integrity.

Enough said.
#43 - Posted 9/23/09 @4:01PM by Liverpool 78

Oh hello there world...

Thank f@@k Rush have NOT been nominated for the Hall of Fame. If they got nominated and by some bizarre chance they managed to get in, then no one would have anything to moan about; and, given that they only time there are more than a handful of comments on here these days is when people want to moan or give a visitor to the site a hard time, then I could imaging this site becoming a very empty and lonely place indeed.

Thank goodness for snubbing I say, and I'm sure the band could not give a flying f@@k about it.

I await my bashing from the fanatics.

Liver.

Liver, its OK, we are all venting in our own way.

Glad to see Kiss getting inducted...now we'll see if Ace and Peter show up if Kiss gets in. Glad to see Genesis get in also..not a fan of Genesis, but they've been doing this for a long time, selling lots of albums.
However....truth be told...I don't really give a fat rat's ass about the Hall (I never use the last two words for this shithole). Some of the bands in here already...and Rush cannot get nominated? Who the Hell is Darlene Love? LL Cool J? If this is the crap that gets in....thank God Rush isn't even nominated...it'd be a disgrace. If they get in now, it is because of pity on the part of the committee (I use that term loosely...hey...I made a rhyme!)I haven't been there...I won't go there...I won't recommend the place to anyone. Rush will be going in the Progressive Rock Hall of Fame in a couple years....that's when we all need to go see them...And for those of you who don't know...there really is such a place.
#46 - Posted 9/23/09 @4:43PM by Xanadu_2112 [contact]

Let's not celebrate too much for Kiss, or Genesis, or anyone else yet... these are just nominees, not official induction has been determined yet.
#47 - Posted 9/23/09 @4:47PM by main monkey business [contact]

Here's the list of politically correct bands that will be going into the hall...if not already there. (Please note the extreme sarcasm in some spots)

#48 - Posted 9/23/09 @4:56PM by AFarCryfromFBN [contact]

I am so effin over the Hall and their extremely confused ideas on what is Rock and Roll. They will never learn...at least not as long as the same tools are running the show.
#49 - Posted 9/23/09 @4:57PM by main monkey business [contact]

Liverpool...bad day?? someone pee on your Wheaties?? LOL
Don't forget...we are still here....there's just not a lot to talk about right now....when they start recording...it'll all start back up again..complaining??? Nope...I don't think anyone really cares about the hall anymore....Rush is more popular for being snubbed....so keep on snubbing em' Cleveland!!! It's okay..after all...it is Cleveland...their taste in music is about as good as their football team....
#50 - Posted 9/23/09 @4:59PM by bakes7 [contact]

This is truly a F`n joke. Who casts votes for this list anyway? and why Cleveland? and what about Yes and Rush and..... Nevermind
#51 - Posted 9/23/09 @5:08PM by Lamb Saag [contact]

re #49:

MMB, don't forget: it was Cleveland's taste in music that enabled Donna Halper to "get the ball rolling"...

(psst! Ed's from Cleveland!)
#52 - Posted 9/23/09 @5:19PM by XanaduAFTK147 [contact]

I actually hope that they never get inducted because it's just so much of a joke, its really just the opinion of their stupid panel that picks the nominations and then they also vote for them, the people don't even get any say in what happens, its all just weighted so much on jann wenner.
#53 - Posted 9/23/09 @5:34PM by patrush

#52 - I'm inclined to want to think like you. Jann is a softie.

On the other hand, Ed stole the words from my mouth: it's great to see Kiss and Genesis, and in fact, those moves (if they win) are a prelude to a Rush nomination in the future.

Other than that, Jann is an a-hole.
#54 - Posted 9/23/09 @5:44PM by main monkey business [contact]

I know Lamb....just my humble opinion...Ed, Donna...it doesn't reflect on them at all.....
Like I said...this is where we all need to go when Rush is inducted....see below...and really...we are a large group who can help influence other Rush fan sites...we ought to get the ball rolling for support of this organization, and that will cause people to take notice...

#55 - Posted 9/23/09 @6:31PM by Sage [contact]

The Hall of Fame was placed in Cleveland because the general consensus is that Cleveland is the birthplace of rock 'n' roll. It is where radio DJ Alan "Moondog" Freed introduced the genre to the radio, as well as where he held the Moondog Coronation Ball, considered by many to be the first rock concert in history. So it is not inappropriate that the museum be placed there.

What's inappropriate is the fact that a "hall of fame" even exists in the first place. Jann Wenner is just another high-and-mighty media jackass who thinks he and his cronies know rock 'n' roll better than the general public. The fact that he is inducting rap artists (nothing against L.L. Cool J and Run-D.M.C., but I think most people would agree that rap is a separate entity from rock 'n' roll) is proof enough that his influence has significantly waned, because he has to pay lip service to an entirely separate genre that happens to be in vogue right now.

I'll say it again: this is a good thing. I'd be more upset if Rush were to accept such an invitation.
#56 - Posted 9/23/09 @6:53PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

#43 Liver! I don't think anyone on his blog would bash you bro. Myself, Sage and many others would be more pissed if Rush accepted it because of the longevity of a nomination and the irrelevancy of RRHOF.

Riddle me this though sir, were you drinking The Macallan 12, 18, 25, or 30 year old when you posted that?? There were a few slurs in there. If it was the Elegancia, then send me a sip would ya!
#57 - Posted 9/23/09 @6:56PM by main monkey business [contact]

Seriously gang...I'm not trying to beat a dead horse...but go to the progressive rock hall of fame's webpage and take a look. This years inductees include both Genesis and Pink Floyd. The prog instrumental song of the year is Rush's "Hope". This place is where we should be putting our efforts and energy. The more help we can give them...the bigger statement we make. We should do the EXACT same thing Rush is doing and ignore this....seriously....does anyone else out there feel the same? Any ideas on how to help "spread the word" about the REAL hall of fame?
#58 - Posted 9/23/09 @7:22PM by Praetorian [contact]

Seriously..............Is anyone that surprised?

The HOF sucks like MTV and Rolling Stone/Billboard Magazine.
#59 - Posted 9/23/09 @8:13PM by driventotheedge [contact]

F#%k the Hall of shame and Jann Wenner. What really matters is RUSH is the best band in the world who continue to grow and it's fans are not just a bunch of sheep.
#60 - Posted 9/23/09 @8:17PM by dssnhopper [contact]

I think that if you couldn't care less that Rush has not made the ballot, then you shouldn't be happy that Kiss or Genesis did (unless you don't like either band). Based solely on the name (Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), yes Rush deserves a spot - and should have gotten the nod a long time ago. Based on what the RRHOF has become, well I just don't know. I think that if the band is ever inducted, nothing will change. How many of us will stop listening if they are inducted? It'll just be another feather in their cap. Six of one, half a dozen of another . . . at least that's what I think. I won't waste my energy on being pissed off at the RRHOF. There are far better things to be pissed off at . . .
#61 - Posted 9/23/09 @8:31PM by main monkey business [contact]

GANG!!! That's why I said...just go to this link and look....this is where they'll be inducted, and we should use our power and effort to get the word out about this hall of fame..again....this link! Read up and you'll see why I feel like I do....

#62 - Posted 9/23/09 @8:45PM by dssnhopper [contact]

main monkey business, got it, went there, thanx! I agree with you, too!

Stop the presses (again)?!!!!!! Oh wait, WHO CARES that Rush didn't get a nomination to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (again)? I surely do not. Lance said it best: "The R&R Hall of Fame does not deserve Rush. Period." I second that, third and fourth that. Pfffffffffttttt!

Love da Geddy! Miss da Geddy!
#64 - Posted 9/23/09 @9:25PM by scottw [contact]

I guess when the Rap and Hip Hop Hall of Fame is built, Rush will be one of the first groups nominated.

Makes as much since as LL Cool J in the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame.

Can't you see the boys standing at a podium in Compton in their sideways hats and bling yelling "GREAT WHITE NORTH SIIIIIIIIIIIDE?"
#65 - Posted 9/23/09 @9:54PM by damonhynes [contact]

I would never join a club that would have me join with Wenner's member.
#66 - Posted 9/23/09 @10:21PM by Ricbass4003 [contact]

Same stuff, different day. LL Cool J. I am laughing at what the RRHOF has become....a joke.
At least as MainMonkeyBusiness pointed with the ProgRockHallofFame the fans are who vote and that is what makes sense to me too.
#67 - Posted 9/23/09 @10:24PM by Archimer [contact]

The hoity-toity bits of the musical world seem to be kind of messed up. Jethro Tull once won a Grammy-- which would have been well-deserved were it not under the category of "Best Metal Act."

Bummer they're not in, but then again-- We don't need the Hall of Fame and their journalist folks telling us who's awesome and who's not. We already know!
#68 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:02PM by glortiz [contact]

I have beaten this horse to a pulp.

So what.

We are the Rush Hall Of Fame!

And our boys will not let us down!

Enough said, when they wake up, it will be too late for them. The R&RHOF is corrupt and infected by inducting too much inferior and irrelevant talent, many that has nothing to do with Rock and Roll.

Enough said.

Rush On!
#69 - Posted 9/23/09 @11:26PM by RushFanForever [contact]

Regardless if Rush are inducted or not, the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame is a joke nevertheless.

Check out this DVD box set of various past musical performances below:

Led Zeppelin's performance is not included and others are edited down from their entirety. This is what makes the entire event more disreputable in my opinion.

I smell rotten rancid from Jann Wenner.

It used to be significant number of people (including many non-Rush fans) could criticize RRHOF, because such amazing bands like Yes, Genesis, Kiss, Deep Purple, Rush etc., were not inducted.

Jann's strategy will be to induct all those bands, except Rush, and leave Rush isolated at the very end.

I know he hates the band to death. He is going to rub it in everyone's face. But at that point, criticism will only come from Rush fans, as all other bands will have been inducted by then.

That's Jann's wicked strategy.

Good. Things like that suck imo. What is the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" anyway?
It's just some business. Trying to make money.

If Rush were American they'd belong in the Smithsonian, not some slick used car salesmen outfit like the RaRHoF.
Genesis should decline.

LLCoolJ belongs there.
#72 - Posted 9/24/09 @12:47AM by dbos_CX1 [contact]

It's good to see that KISS and Genesis at least got nominated...I wonder if Gene and Paul will man up and invite the REAL Catman and Spaceman if they are inducted...just saying.
#73 - Posted 9/24/09 @12:50AM by dbos_CX1 [contact]

If Genesis makes it in (they're a prog band; Gabriel-era, anyway), I may have a sliver of hope left for Rush.
#74 - Posted 9/24/09 @1:17AM by drivenbyrush [contact]

The only artist that belongs there is Genesis, the others are a joke. I mean
Kiss are total sellouts. All they care about is merchandising. They are about selling a gimmick not real music, like on their first few albums. They are no
longer Kiss without Peter and Ace anyway....
So what else is new about the R&R Hall of shame anyway???
Besides; like everyone here says, the hall doesn't deserve Rush IMO.
#75 - Posted 9/24/09 @2:04AM by GedHed [contact]

I'm almost relieved about this. lol! RUSH is still our "secret." We get it, they don't. Badge of honor.

Not much to add other than, "Who cares!"

Main - I love the list of bands and thanks for the link to the progressive HOF.

This is all bull crap, but I just wonder why the panel that comes up with the nominees never is held accountable for their selections by the media? It's one thing not to get inducted, but to not even make the nomination list? How can they justify it and why do people continue to go to this stupid hall of fame! The reason they won't even put Rush on the nomination list? Because if they actually made the nomination list so that people in the music industry had the opportunity to vote for Rush, the hall of fame panel knows that the vote for Rush would be unaminous!! So they keep them off the ballot! They should just call it the hall of fame for popular music! Until this time next year...
#79 - Posted 9/24/09 @9:12AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

Btw, congrats(I guess?) to my second favorite band,Genesis ! Funny that they would make the nomination list before Yes ,its probaly more based on the mid eighties to early nineties Genesis, when they were commercial and made alot of money! Peter Gabriel Genesis was excellent, but they also made some great albums with Phil as the lead singer! Trick of the Tail,Wind and Wuthering,Seconds Out,And Then There Were Three,Duke, and Abacab are all great albums in my opinion!

According to Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: DEAD HORSE
Function: noun
Date: 1830
def. : an exhausted or profitless topic or issue -usually used in the phrases "beat a dead horse" and "Really, what's the point of talking about the Canadian rock trio Rush and some building in Cleveland, Ohio?"

One of the saddest parts is, I remember when Rolling Stone was considered "anti-establishment"...and now Jann Wenner has *become* the "establishment". I dunno. Maybe Johnny Rotten was right...
#86 - Posted 9/24/09 @1:55PM by katskahnne [contact]

Oh, and Rat-cupines going to see PT on this leg of the tour - be sure to get there early enough to check out the opening band, King's X. Great band, and longtime friends of mine & my husband's. You don't know how I wish I could be there with ya's!! :-)

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has limited validity as an entity (Madonna is a first-ballot inductee; nuff said there). They do go out of their way to recognize little known pioneers of early rock music, and every once in a while they will throw a bone to the casual music fan (Lynyrd Skynrd), but it seems for the most part the Hall is a vehicle for Jann Wenner to kiss the arses of the musicians he thinks are worthy of being in his elitist club. It's almost a given that the Chili Peppers, Jimmy Cliff, the Stooges, The Hollies and Laura Nyro will be inducted because the inclusion of their names will give the Hall it's annual infusion of hipster-ism. It would not hurt my feelings if Rush never were inducted; that type of elitist attitude is contrary to the spirit of their music over the years. Their music is for all to enjoy. The RRHoF is for Jann Wenner to enjoy.

Greetings Net Boys and Net Girls...

I am writing this response through blurred, tear filled eyes...as I am devestated by the news...I am shocked, hurt, confused, I feel betrayed and a sense of utter hopelessness has washed over me...I just sit and rock back and forth, muttering to myself, "it isn't fair, it isn't fair, it isn't fair," over and over again.

Wait...

No, that's right...actually, I'm not shocked at all. Hmm, Rush doesn't win popularity contest? Is anyone really surprised?

Let's see now, how can we resolve this?

We can have our own popularity contest...old school meets high school style.

Alex...voted Rush's class clown.
Geddy...voted Rush's most likely to succeed.
Neil...voted Rush's most congenial.

...ah, that's better now.

The face of the music industry has long changed and, as said here previously, the validity of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is non-existant, to say the least.

This being said, of course, I will cheer with all of you when the boys are finally inducted.

But until they (and Alice Cooper) are inducted...I will not be making a visit, that much is certain.

Be of good cheer Net Boys and Net Girls...maybe Rush will be inducted in the year 2112...sorry, I couldn't resist.

~Peace,

RGLT

PS...

Knowing that Donna Summer has a shot will help me to be able to sleep at night and wash away my concerns over people starving in the world, natural disasters, wars, disease and all other injustices.

After all, let's all be honest here...when one thinks of the term Rock and Roll, one automatically thinks of Donna Summer.

Our hearts > RRHOF.
#90 - Posted 9/24/09 @3:45PM by antonioperu

the rrhof is just a bunch of idiots who dont care about the history and potencial of a band like RUSH as a matter of fact RUSH doesnt need this induction THEY ARE already the best in the galaxy SO THE HELL WITH THE RRHOF...

#92 - Posted 9/24/09 @9:02PM by PwrWndws

The RRHOF is such a fraud. I mean look at some of the nominees......LLcool J ?? Donna Summer ?? Are they even rock ?? The Hall should be a shame of itself. Do they know Rush even exist ? I don't care about the hall but at least be legitimate with it's nominees. Rush is the greatest and all of us know that and that's all I have to say about that !!
#93 - Posted 9/24/09 @9:42PM by main monkey business [contact]

subdivincent (82)...seems you took it a little too seriously...don't take it out of context...seeing how I live in Southwest Ohio...I feel I'm entitled to talk about the state. But let's face it....if you try to tell me Cleveland doesn't suck at football...I'll tell you the Bengals are going to the Superbowl (and I'm not a big Bengals fan...so I'm neutral). Me...a jackass? I guess you are entitled to your opinions...and I've certainly been called much worse by much better people....

At long last, ABBA can get the recognition they deserve! What rock-n-roll pioneers! Just think of the countless younger bands that cite ABBA as an influence!

what is wrong with the RRHOF???? I think the question should be...what is RIGHT about the RRHOF....The one thing you said that is correct is....who cares? The real HOF is the progressive rock hall of fame...check out that webpage.
