Updates and other random Rush stuff
Posted at 2:30PM | comments (48)

A lot is happening in Rush-land as of late so I'll get right to it. About an hour ago I let you know that Rush will be releasing a new CD/DVD compilation this coming November which will include cuts from their 3 most recent concert DVDs: Rush in Rio, R30 and Snakes & Arrows Live. The compilation will be titled Working Men and is slated for release on November 17th. The compilation will also be offered as a standalone CD. The CD/DVD combo is already available for pre-order at Amazon at this link. But I think the even bigger bit of news is that a Blu-ray version of R30 which will include 8 additional tracks - meaning the full concert - is also slated for release on November 17th!

Alex Lifeson as a border officer in SuckLast Friday the Canadian vampire/comedy film Suck premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Alex Lifeson has a small role as a border officer in the film and was present at the premier as shown in these photos: [photo 1] [photo 2] [photo 3]. He also showed up at the after party at the Phoenix Theatre in Toronto and joined the band Burning Brides onstage for the song Flesh and Bone which appears on the movie's soundtrack. You can check out a bootleg video of it here. The film has already sold its distribution rights to bigwig Canadian motion picture distribution/production company Alliance Films, so it should be hitting theaters later this year - hopefully in the US and UK as well as Canada. Reader RushFanForever located this MSN article about the film where Alex Lifeson is interviewed:

... Their big thing is to eat raw meat thrown at them while on stage. The leader, of all people, is Moby.

"He was great!" exclaims Rush guitarist Lifeson, who is unrecognizable in "Suck" at first blush as a rubber-gloved, gruff U.S. Customs agent near the Niagara Falls border.

"You know, Moby's a strict vegan," Lifeson laughs, recalling the sight of the bald electronica star dressed up like someone out of Judas Priest. "This role - he's so brilliant. He was totally into it, apparently."

Lifeson was the first big name on the "Suck" train - though he was originally going to contribute music to the film. He and Stefaniuk had met years earlier at a New Year's Eve party, and when Lifeson saw what his friend was doing, he wanted in. The 56-year-old was encouraged to take a role, which was right up the alley for a musician whose day job put him and bandmates Geddy Lee and Neil Peart at the centre of this year's Paul Rudd hit comedy "I Love You, Man", and who will also return on his own in the upcoming "Trailer Park Boys: Countdown to Liquor Day".

"We've been travelling across the border for 35 years," notes Lifeson, back to his familiar blond and looking nothing like the burly border guard. "We run into some great agents, and we run into some very power-hungry agents. And that was the one that Rob wanted - that bitter, angry soul that's got the power and is not gonna let anybody into his country." ...

As noted in the above article, Alex Lifeson also has a cameo in the latest Trailer Park Boys movie - Countdown to Liquor Day - which premiered at the Atlantic Film Festival yesterday evening. Alex plays a cross-dressing cop in the film as he described in a recent Prog interview. Lerxst also had a cameo as a cop in the first Trailer Park Boys movie and was heavily involved with the soundtrack for that film.

Alex was not the only member of Rush featured at the Toronto International Film Festival this week. Geddy Lee was appeared in a short documentary film from director Bruce McDonald called Geddy Lee at Massey Hall earlier this week. The film was part of the City Sonic Project - a collaboration between Toronto documentary film companies which paired Canadian music artists with award-winning Canadian filmmakers to create short documentary films about the artists' connection to places where their musical lives were transformed. The 5-minute film can be viewed online on YouTube at this link. Power Windows noticed that at one point in the documentary Geddy mis-remembers first playing Massey Hall in 1975, and then later that year after Fly By Night had come out. Rush actually first played Massey Hall on October 24th, 1974 opening for Nazareth as described in this October 1974 Billboard Magazine article.

Not to be outdone by his bandmates, Neil Peart also has a small role in a film that will get its theatrical release next month although it first premiered over a year ago. I first told you about indie film Adventures of Power way back in February of 2008. The film - written by, directed by and starring Ari Gold - first premiered at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival and has been making the film festival rounds ever since to rave reviews. The movie chronicles the adventures of air-drummer extraordinaire Power (played by Gold) and contains a cameo from Neil Peart along with a slew of Rush references. For theaters and show times check out the offical site at this link. Earlier this week reader Asif K let me know that the Drum Channel posted the following update to their Twitter page:

Neil Peart and Ari Gold of Adventures of Power in the studio today for an air-drum-off! Mon Sep 14 at 2:57pm

Then just a few hours ago Ari posted the following update to his Twitter page:

Power is off to Toronto to find the rest of Rush, after jamming with Neil Peart in California on Monday.

Asif followed up with Ari Gold and he confirmed the video shoot and said it's being edited this week and should be available for viewing on Youtube sometime next week. I'm not sure what Ari is going to do once he finds Alex and Geddy. :)

Grapes Under PressureYesterday afternoon Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson launched an auction of rock memorabilia on eBay as part of their Grapes Under Pressure initiative in support of Grapes for Humanity, an organization that helps to raise funds to benefit humanitarian causes around the world with the assistance of the international wine community. Geddy Lee is a member of the board of directors for the organization. To check out all of these items and to place your bid go to this link. All proceeds will go to Grapes for Humanity.

On Wednesday I let you know that the 2010 Rush wall calendar finally began shipping this past week. John over at Cygnus-X1.net received his copy and has scanned all the images from the calendar and made them available on his site at this link. The calendar celebrates the 30th anniversary of Rush's 1980 classic Permanent Waves and feature several photos from the album's recording sessions. You can order your copy at this link.

Yesterday I alerted you to a great interview with Rush's first roadie Ian Grandy that Skip Daly conducted for GuitarInternational.com. Ian worked for Rush from 1969 to 1983 which makes his point of view of the band's history highly unique since he was present from when Rush played high school gyms in the late '60s and early '70s on through to when they were selling out massive arenas in the early '80s. The article is a must read for any Rush fan. You can check it out at this link.

Ultimate Drum Play-Along RushThe Ultimate Drum Play-along Rush book/CD from Alfred Publishing released this past Sunday. It is a companion to the already released Ultimate Guitar Play-along Rush (released back on April 15th) and Ultimate Bass Play-along Rush (released back on June 17th) titles. You can order your copy at this link.

The Rush Backstage Club is running a new contest where you could win a signed 16" X 22" R30 lithograph. The contest ends on September 28th and you can sign up to enter at this link.

It's been a while since we've had a good Rush rumor to speculate about so here's a new one. Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree is currently remixing the entire King Crimson catalog in 5.1 with the full support of King Crimson founding member Robert Fripp who - along with Alex Lifeson - was a guest musician on Porcupine Tree's Fear of a Blank Planet. Supposedly when Steven is done with King Crimson he would like to give the same treatment to the Rush catalog. Now here's the rumor part; apparently Alex Lifeson has already been contacted about this and is on board with it (thanks Chad!). This sounds promising! Porcupine Tree's new album The Incident released this past Tuesday.

Alex Lifeson is featured in the October 2009 issue of Golf Digest in a short article on custom golfwear designer Ralph Dunning. There's a picture of Lerxst being fitted for some custom golf threads and a few quotes as well:

... Guitarist Alex Lifeson, a part owner of Coppinwood and co-founder of the rock band Rush, is one of Dunning's best customers. He came to the service after growing weary of the "compromise" required by off-the-shelf golfwear. Lifeson says he palys golf exclusively in Dunning clothing. "I can't ever go back to off-the-rack shirts," he says. "I just feel better in custom-fit gear."

Lifeson usually calls Dunning for new clothes before Rush goes out on the road. In advance of one recent tour, he ordered rough-weather gear so he could play a few rounds when the band reached Scotland. Says the guitarist: "I couldn't believe how comfortable I was despite the weather and, stylistically, the cut and fit stood out."

Many thanks to Chris Herin of Tiles for the scan.

Earlier this summer we learned about a planned rock-n-roll-themed Decades Music Theme Park which will feature a Rush-themed Spirit of Radio Concert Hall. The facade of the building will look like the old radio depicted on the cover of Rush's The Spirit of Radio greatest hits package. Founder and Chief Creative Officer Marty West recently sent me some architectural model images of the concert hall which you can check out by clicking on the above thumbnails.

Reader nevetsrush let me know about a Rush reference on the Fox News Channel show Red Eye from September 15th. One of the show's commentators Andy Levy quoted Rush's The Spirit of Radio saying glittering prizes and endless compromizes shatter the illusion of integrity while mocking rappers.

Reader tangy from The Rush Forum let me know that JamBase featured Rush in their Saturday Eye Candy feature. You can check it out at this link.
Music journalist Steve Janowski recently wrote an article for ReviewFix.com which lists the Top 10 Classic Rock Drummers. Coming in at number 7 is our own Neil Peart. Here's what they had to say:

This drummer is a chameleon who embraces diverse styles and is the band's lyricist. This Canadian born drum ace is known for his technical flair and huge reserve of energy. His style evolved from a derivative of Bonham and Moon to a progressive and jazzy feel. This goes hand in hand with "Rush's" metamorphosis as a band. Peart has played Slingerland, Ludwig, Tama drum kits and most recently has used a 360-degree set by Sabian with acoustic drums in front and electronic ones in the rear. His drum solos are concert staples and are awe-inspiring. They contain unique time signatures and are intricate and challenging. "All the World's a Stage" and "Exit Stage Left" are live albums that display Peart's brilliance. He also released an instructional DVD, "Anatomy of a Drum Solo." Check out 2004's "R30," Rush's 30th anniversary DVD to see and hear a master at work.

Thanks to J.D.S for the heads up.

In case you haven't seen it yet, here is the video of the Geddy Lee at Massey Hall short film documentary:

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Woohoo...whatever-th! :-D

Quite a week, really, considering no album/tour for a while yet. Looks like TIFF was the place to be - some big new films there in addition to the many indies (Rush-related and otherwise) I've been following...

OK...Blu-ray player goes on my wish list...along with the New And Improved! release of R30...along with the calendar...along with the new PT CD...along with saving up for the next tour...did I mention I'm self-employed? :-) Seriously, though...while we hardcores might not give the combo-live release a second thought...the holidays *are* coming up, and there may be that friend or family member who's "on the bubble" about Rush, and appreciates good music, but...::shrugs::

Best of good fortunes to the Grapes Under Pressure auction and all involved. What a wonderful cause. As a Northern Californian (originally) I love wine and the culture surrounding it has always meant a lot to me...I mean September wasn't September without the "Blessing of the Grapes" up there (and the same silly joke every year about not diluting the juice with the holy water...) and the yearly bulk-sale of wine-standard grape juice to independent and home winemakers (BYO container and buy by the gallon!). Let's hope for a "blessing" of the Grapes this time, goals met and people helped...Kudos, guys!

Has anyone listened to the new PT album "The Incident"? I am going to store in a few to buy it!!!

"Peart has played Slingerland, Ludwig, Tama drum kits and most recently has used a 360-degree set by Sabian with acoustic drums in front and electronic ones in the rear"

Actually Peart uses a DW kit. The cymbals are made by Sabian. Not to be technical or anything. :)

Excellent news about R30 on Blu-ray!! Watched S&A last night on DVD and decided to order it on Blu-ray today along with PT's new album. Can't wait to see the concerts on Blu-ray!!
#8 - Posted 9/18/09 @3:23PM by hermy [contact]

The Blu-Ray R30 a must! The Working Man....nope!!

...and a remix in 5.1....on the fence about that one. Curious if Steve is going to license it through DTS or Dolby.
#9 - Posted 9/18/09 @3:24PM by LovLee [contact]

#5 Several people have heard the new PT album. I am also going to make a pit stop at the local Best Buy and get it. I've heard it's great.
#10 - Posted 9/18/09 @3:36PM by musicofthespheres [contact]

R30 is my favorite live mix - w. S&A a close second. R30 versions of Bravado and La Villa (and the rest) will be great to have. although audio for the car would be more important to me.

is there a way to download the audio of a bluray?
#11 - Posted 9/18/09 @4:03PM by GedHed [contact]

Wow! Wilson wants to remix the entire RUSH catalog???! This is the best rat pellet in a long time! I love it! Hope it will happen! This totally makes my day! :D

#5: Have been glued to 'The Incident' since I got the download. It rocks. Period. I cannot wait to see them do this stuff live (only 4 more days!)! There is a really cool deluxe version which is just plain incredible--it comes in a box the size of an LP and contains a hardback book of artwork, another softback book of artwork, audio CDs and a DVD. It weighs over 5 pounds. It is a bit pricey, but it's worth *every single penny*.

#6...lol, you beat me to it.
I sure wish they got "their" facts right.
#13 - Posted 9/18/09 @4:26PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

See what happens when you make an air drum movie? You get to whip up some Spindrifts with Neil! Holy shit that would be sweet. Ari's a great guy and was guest judge at the World Air Guitar Championship in Finland this year. Finland is coordinating the World Air Drum Competition soon. Ari Man-if you're out there, The Shred will be competing against you somewhere soon mister.........Just follow the EF5 induced trench. You'll find me...

GedHed! Knew you would comment quickly! Transforming the existing Rush catalog in 5.1?? Sounds like we will call you Steven "Cygnus" Wilson, the god of balance you shall be..

Greenwolfe or anyone for that matter-Don't hesitate the purchase of "The Incident". De-freakin-licious

#6 dwman-Good correction! Why does this always happen??

OMG! Looking at the events section of the Grapes for Humanity site I saw they are having an Antinori tasting. This made these rat lips quiver. Some of these wines cannot be ordered unless you have exclusivity. There are very limited productions on many of those treats

-Tenute Antinori
-Nobile di Montepulciano "La Braccesca".
-Tignanello

The Tig is one of my all time favorite reds! A HUGE party in your mouth from the first taste. So rich and tasty you can barely brush it off your teeth! Yummy freakin yummy. Throw in a side order of Chateau Brion (medium rare please) and you could almost say it is better than sex! Well.................Nevermind.

I would love to hang out with Geddy at one of these tastings. Get all philosophical and what not.

Well, hellllloooooo!

Been awhile since I last posted here! Just wanted to let everyone know that, yes, I'm still alive! :)

Lots stirring in Rushland, eh? Perfect cue for me to awake from slumber! :)

Heading out to the PT gig in SF tonight, then to the Chicago show to meet up with some fellow RIABers. Ya know who ya are! :)

One request: SW, please mix the upcoming Rush album, too!

Ed, thanks again for another great edition of Friday Updates!

Alrighty then! I guess I am going to have to break down and purchase a blu-ray DVD player, probably two. Because the complete R30 is an absolute MUST HAVE!

And I will also get the compilation CD/DVD as well, some of us must keep the library current - even if it is with the help of a couple of friends! :-)

I mentioned the "vault" last night, would it not be something if the CD/DVD compilation has some previously unreleased video from Rio?

There is a lake between sun and moon
Not too many know about
In the silence between whisper and shout
The space between wonder and doubt

This got me excited:

"Power is off to Toronto to find the rest of Rush, after jamming with Neil Peart in California on Monday."

Yep, yep, they're doing their warm-up stretches, methinks! Fantastic little pellet right THERE.

Of course that's not the only tidbit I gleaned from all of this, but that's what grabbed my attention the most

I also think it might be time for Glortiz & I to have the bluRay talk. ;-D

Thanks Ed & contributors, for the steady diet this week!

I viewed part two of the CBC documentary 'Rise Up' about the 80's Canadian music scene last night. This was the last part of the special.

Ed added my comments as an update on the original thread posted. However I thought I would post them here for everyone to see.

Geddy Lee commented on how the Canadian music television channel 'MuchMusic' was a huge benefit for Canadian music talent in that it created a network and connected Canada to the rest of the world.

Geddy commented positively about The Tragically Hip with the following:

'You can hear how The Tragically Hip sound like a rock band. However their music is very multilayered which gives it a timeless and enduring quality. Big props for The Tragically Hip.'

OFF THE TOPIC: JELLY FISH ALERT
*******************************

If anyone lives in the MD area and wants to attend a killer party tomorrow evening, e-mail me. I am having the 5th Annual Jelly Fish Party here at Club Xanadu starting at 7:00pm. The pool will be 95 degrees. Plenty of beverages, food and a midnight showing of R30 on the big screen poolside. That's right Mrs. Shred, you heard me...

Entrance to the party requires you to recite the Jelly Fish pledge in which you will have to "Raise your right tentacle and repeat after me"

I am a Jelly Fish
I thrive in warm water
I am not slimy like people think
I am friendly and love alcoholic beverages
Hee Ha Woo Hoo
Hail to the Jelly Fish

Folks that get out of hand will have their funny little translucent heads smushed by a dude sportin a Walmart Speedo..........

I was watching vids on youtube and I thought this could interest some rats at RIAB..

link

and this..for some old 70s fans..=D

link

btw Remix the entire rush catalog?..original sound is better IMO..the only thing that needs to be remix is Vapor Trails..why?..yea i know that it already kicks ass a lot..but i've always imagined that the bridge guitar Riff on "Secret Touch" could be a lot more.."heavier" like the live versions..=O...if they do That, then Vapor Trails will be in my top 5 Best Rush Albums ever even if the next 1 comes out!

Have a good weekend

PTree's "The Incident" is amazing...and gets better with each listen! I really am not sure I've ever heard anything quite like it before. Get it and enjoy. And if Steven Wilson does the Rush 5.1 remixes, I will buy every disc on preorder now! I have every PTree album available with 5.1 mix and it is amazing....even shelled out the $$$ for the Incident Special Edition to get the 5.1 mix of that. Moving Pictures in with a good 5.1 mix would be almost too good to be true!
#22 - Posted 9/18/09 @10:53PM by 1-2-bucklemyshoe [contact]

Speaking of remixes, Ed posted this back in July and I have watched it almost everyday since. I'm not a big fan of the Beastie Boys, but somehow this mash up sounds amazing.

This mash up is a lot better than that other remix of Tom Sawyer. And the guys are not unfamiliar with rap music (cf. Roll the Bones)

Hey LanceTheOscarGoldmanShred!!!! I wrote a Haiku-poem for the bash eh...

Come one and come all
Lance has a very hot pool
Don't drink jelly fish

And now to my intended post:

Had a grand tipsy time tonight with old friends. Our conversation eventually turned to Rush and I was asked how old I was when I saw my first Rush concert. I started to retell the story of seeing Rush opening night at Radio City Music Hall, only to realize that tonight was the 26th anaversary of that event, 9.18.83. I had to sit and was a bit floored as people in the room laughed and marveled at the simple cowinkydink.

I had begged my Mother, as my Father saw no harm in letting me (13), my sister, and my cousin John go to Radio City. The newspaper had this huge full page ad, it was the silhouette of them on the Signals LP. My Mother saw the ad and said, "Well, if he is going to play at Radio City he had better get his hair cut!!!" And with that my Father was off to get us tickets from his guy in the city.

We made a banner that we tried to hang from our seats, stage left, first row, sec balcony. A guard took it and threw it out, that was real lame because others hung banners later in the show that were not as good as mine.

This was a big thing. No rock band had ever played Radio City. I saw guys cutting the red velvet from the seats and stuffing them in pockets. Security had to keep people from standing on the seats. Later there were bad reviews and the fans were bashed for this but hey, few bad apples. I remember there was a bit of the velvet on the floor right near me and I wanted to take it but I didn't.

The lights went dim and I was actually scared, I remember being scared. Then Geddy comes out and what do you know, he had cut his hair!!! There are actually lots of well known photos from this night (and time period in the 80s) where Geddy had the short mullet. I was witness to the unveiling. How could I not think of my mother, when I told her she did not remember ;(

I am lucky enough to have a boot of this show (thanks Alvator), and listen to it often. They played three songs from Grace which would not be released for like 2 or 3 months. Really a magical night that ushered me into Rush and Rock. I feel very fortunate to have been there. Now, like 27 shows later I am planning on another 27, no matter what job I have to quit.

ROCK!!!!!

Just wanna give a shout out to Nettie! So nice to have finally met you IRL last night! I had a blast! Your love of Rush and Alex Lifeson is amazing! Looking forward to the next tour! We'll definitely have to meet up before the Milwaukee show cuz I know you'll be on Alex's side and I'll be on Geddy's side...and never the two shall meet unless we get a pair of tickets dead center! Ha ha ha! Woo Hoo!

Lance, I hope you have a blast at your Jellyfish Party tonight! Can't wait to see you and those other lovely Rats (Rat-Cupines) going to Porcupine Tree next week!!! Baltimore will once again be the most Rat-infested city in the U.S.! (Thanks, Lamb for that article that proves it! Ha ha ha!)

Steven Wilson and Rush! Two things that go great together! Oooooh! I think if Steven Wilson is gonna remix the Rush catalog, he definitely has to START with Vapor Trails! I love VT but I only wish I could listen to it at loud volumes without making my ears bleed with yucky sound quality. I was in 7th Heaven when the OLV and Earthshine remixes came out. I want to be able to hear the rest remixed!

BTW, I am thoroughly enjoy the new PT album, "The Incident." It's a really great album. People say "Steven Wilson is a musical genius." - BUT it's true! Wow! This PT album is definitely the best stuff put out by PT yet! Gavin Harrison is a beast on drums! Totally amazing! I'm floored! Can't wait to see them next week! Eeeeeeee!

Thanks for those links Sirius! I love 2112! That was sweeeeeet! You could say that was a very, very Geddy-licious clip! You made my day! :)

Gotta love it - more Rush on Blu-Ray! Yay! One can never have too much Rush! Woo Hoo!!

Have a Geddy-licious weekend, ya'll!

U2 and Rush:

U2 just played two nights in Toronto this week and was glad to see, like Rush, that the majority or their setlist was comprised of recent material. It is always funny to see the facial expressions of attendees who don't know any other songs then what they hear on classic rock radio. Sorry guys Rush and U2 are the wrong concerts for you - maybe you should try Styx at your local casino!

What could be better than Rush opening their next tour with a blistering version of We Hold On?!

U2 Setlist from 2nd Night:

HFC and all the rest of you PT pushers,

After clicking on one of HFC's links that took me to the PT site, I realized they were in SF last night. So, very last minute, decided to see what all the fuss was about. I still have a detailed song recommendation that HFC posted at the beginning of the year, and have downloaded some songs, but haven't gotten hooked yet.

Live, they definitely lived up to the hype! Was very impressed.

Whether I become hooked or not is still gonna come down to the lyrics - have to be moved by what they're saying, otherwise give me instrumentals. So we'll see.

But thanks to this blog and thanks to Neil's House Music for exposure to a quality band!

#25 Sorry I missed last night. Wished I could have hung out with you two.
#30 - Posted 9/19/09 @5:37PM by entrenous [contact]

......? Was this a plan from the beginning?
This may be the first time I attempt to download something Rush.
Could this money grab mean there is no album in the near future? Or are they doing this because of the amount of Rush exposure is the media as of late?
#31 - Posted 9/19/09 @8:27PM by mrdriven [contact]

thanks for the setlist dbguy! those songs rock! and nice to see the additional snippets they don't put on U2.com!

enjoy the show Kelly D!

I for one am looking forward to the new R30 with the 8 extra songs.
#33 - Posted 9/19/09 @10:20PM by freewilly [contact]

I'm looking forward to the R30 +8track version too but I still don't want to jump on the blu-ray train and buy a player only for this (well, and S&A live), maybe I never want to jump that train but in the end I'll certainly be "forced" because "old" dvd (discs and players) will (deliberately) not be produced anymore. So even though I know there is "freedom of choice" I still believe there is a driving force behind it from the industry which makes it a much less "free" choice than it may appear at first sight. Just my thought and suspicion.

The interview with former roadie Ian Grandy is priceless. I love the story about 999 Queen St. and the boys playing in an insane asylum. Has anyone ever heard about this gig? I would love to hear what Lerxst has to say about that evening!

Hey Ed I remember you talking months ago when Snakes and Arrows Live was released on DVD that VH1 was going to edit and begin showing it on Vh1 Classic. Just wanted to see what has progressed with that.

#34 - I know, seriously...sounds like one of the standout "war stories"!!

#33 - My hubby says Blu-Ray is "backward-compatible"; i.e., you can play standard DVD's on a Blu-Ray machine. I know, when vinyl gave way to CD, I dragged my feet like a Hangtown mule avoiding THAT particular changeover...but when ya gotta, ya gotta. I'll probably do what I did where VCR's were concerned - A) wait until they're common enough that the price drops sharply and B) in the meantime go watch the one or two BR-DVD's I might own on my nephew's Blu-Ray player. :-D I do want those extra eight tracks, though...::sigh::

Hi katskahne, thanks for your thoughts... I know it is 'backward-compatible' but that does not really avoid blu-ray (BR) pushing away dvd... In fact it even makes that process happen more quickly because people think "O, my old dvd's will also play". That being true I doubt if if future releases (both music and movie) will be both on DVD and BR or only on BR. I'd wish they would maintain both systems next to eachother. But that will not happen I guess, therefore making a BR-player unavoidable in the long run. I consider even buying the new R30 BR-disc and try to rip and convert it to DVD, crazy as that might sound.

The ones out there hesitant on purchasing blueray player I say go for it providing you have the equipment to compliment it.Snakes/Arrows sound quality is unbelievable in surround sound mode.I have not heard anything that comes close to it.However purchasing older movies or any thing not filmed in HD dont waste the money.ie:lastest ac/dc blueray is terrible.

under the strange but true category. i have been listening to rush ever since the early seventies and still think about them or listen to them every day. out of all the albums they have released it is snakes and arrows that i have listened to the most out of every album from song one to finish. second is hemispheres and third is moving pictures. i just bought a new cd of snakes and arrows because my old one simply ran out of gas and started to skip. must have heard that album over 200 times possibly. with this album they are becoming more popular than ever. and i will always spend money and contribute to this band until they can no longer continue, and that will be probably until R50 comes around. wishful thinking? we shall see. all 3 members are nothing but sexy beasts!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the update Ed!

This is really weird about R30. Today I was thinking about how if they released a full concert I would have to buy it, even though I the previous one. Looks like it came true.

A propos of...well, not nothing, but...

That insane asylum gig reminded me of in late 1987, the all-female band I'd been in for most of the 80's got booked to do a gig at a ::ahem:: "men's correctional facility" on Terminal Island. Now, the guys in this particular prison weren't murderers and rapists and stuff; more like computer hackers and car thieves. Still, these were fellows who hadn't seen (let alone ::ahem:: enjoyed the company of) a female in years, so...yeah, it was a little unnerving getting the visual appraisal one might expect to be given a fine chateaubriand...by dozens and dozens of guys...we're talking load-in to departure...All in all though, the inmates were a great audience...I'll spare you the long version, but it was one of my wierder experiences playing with that band!

This is from the Power Windows site.

In addition, for the first time ever, R30 will be released on Blu-Ray later this fall. When RUSH originally released R30 on DVD, fans were dismayed to learn that eight songs had been dropped from the final release. Geddy Lee later addressed this oversight in March 2006:

"Some of the songs were dropped from R30 due to technical reasons but also we didn't want to have too many similarities with Rush In Rio. Why not? Well, I think now that it was a dumb decision of ours. In fact I regret not having put the whole show on those disks. But I promise you, all those songs that were cut will eventually see the light of day, in some shape or form." - Geddy Lee, Aardschok Magazine, March 2006

I'm with Hermy....can't wait for R30, but could care less about "Working Man"...What will really be nice is when Rush puts out some new material, and starts a new tour...then all the little side projects will be a thing of the past.

I'm still wondering what happened to the Different Stages DVD. All of 2112 on video!

Remixes of classic Rush releases by Wilson? I wonder how far they'll go? From the debut through Hold Your Fire for just the Mercury years? Imagine the outtakes and alternate studio versions that exist of these songs plus the improvs/jams/etc. If any of you have seen the tracklisting for King Crimson's remaster of In The Court of the Crimson you'll be amazed if they can do the same for Rush!
