Guitar Hero 5 to feature Rush's The Spirit of Radio (Live, 2008)
Posted at 4:22PM | comments (20)

Guitar Hero 5About a month ago we learned that Rush would be one of the featured artists on the next installment of the Guitar Hero music video game - Guitar Hero 5. What we didn't know was the specific song that was to be included. But I can now confirm via an inside source that the track will be the live version of The Spirit of Radio from the Snakes & Arrows Live CD. Guitar Hero 5 will be similar to its predecessor Guitar Hero World Tour in that it is geared towards playing in a four-person band experience, including lead and bass guitar, drums, and vocals - but it will also have some new features. It's due to be released on September 1, 2009 and can be pre-ordered via Amazon at this link.

I actually have a playlist of the S & A version of TSOR on my Ipod so I can listen to it over & over & over.

Damn I thought Rush was committed to the Rock Band series. I don't want to have to buy a whole new set of instruments for this other game. Guess I'll have to do without it.

What is up with them and only giving tracks from the 70s or nothing past 1981? How about something from Signals? Grace? Power? Fire? Presto? CP?

Did someone say "The Spirit of Radio"?

Ah, yeah!

I don't have Rock Band nor do I have Guitar Hero. Like mommy_of_zuzu, I'll just sing along to "The Spirit of Radio" with my live S&A CD in the car (and while using my iPod at work) and watch it on Blu-Ray while I'm exercising. Still nice that there is more and more Rush music available for these kinds of new-fangled technology games. One can never have too much Rush in their lives! I am thrilled that Rush is remaining in the general public's mindset. Rush is everywhere lately and it's great! It's about time, eh? Yay! :)

Love da Geddy! Miss da Geddy!

Yea, I would much rather sing to Spirit of Radio on my iPod than have points deducted from me on a video game because I'm not good enough for a T.V. screen. Isn't the song covered anyway? It's not really Rush playing...

Songs On Rockband & Guitar Hero Are Not Covers. Haven't Been For A Long Time. All Master Tracks Baby. Looking Forward To Ripping This Track Out of The Game Minus The Guitar Parts So That I Can Record Myself Playing On It Instead Of Alex. This Is The Main Reason I Get These Games, Just So I Can Get All Those Awesome Master Backing Tracks.

MoZZ and Petie, who needs video games to rock out? Not us!

As long as you've got a yardstick, a tennis racquet, or a sawed-off hockey stick, you can play along. (Some would even say all you need is air, but I like reaching into the closet for the broom and treating it like a Gibson ES-355.)

: )

Think about this:

Iron Maiden had their documentary released a couple months ago. Then Rock Band, as a tribute, put up like 7 songs of theirs on the game.

Since Rush has a documentary in the making and Rock Band loves Rush, we may see a set of 7-8 songs here later this year. Sweet.

The Spirit of Radio I think took too long. Do not get me wrong, YYZ on Guitar Hero 2 was a great choice but a more recognized guitar riff is The Spirit of Radio.

On a side note, I close a lot at my work, and because no one is there I turn up the stereos and blare RUSH all night long and sing along and air drumming.

4 - 7 - 8:

I'm happy for people that enjoy those games, though!

Petie, you can always tell a Spirit of Radio picture of dear Ged, can't you, hon?! LOL

I have Rock Band 2 and I downloaded Moving Pictures. I can't tell you, as a drummer, how much fun it is to play along to those songs on guitar or bass. It's amazing because I can hear the different parts better than I ever heard them before...and some things that I had never heard before.

Of note: Rock Band instruments can be used with Guitar Hero, and vice versa...no need to buy a different set.

I sure wish they'd pick something other than TSOR, it's been done (on GH) already.

When are we gonna get Tai Shan on Rock Band or Guitar Hero??? Maybe they'll make a Flute Hero and put in on there.

how pop-culturalish (if that is even a word)

Pick up a REAL guitar.

I'm sure the version of Tom Sawyer on Rock Band is not RUSH but someone covering. I am glad this game is turning on people to the music of RUSH. I know my daughter needs to listen to some good music other then the crap is is listening to now- she Resists. She wouldn't even come to see the S&A tour with me...There is Hope for her, I heard them rocking to The Trees...

Great picture Petie! That was one the highlights of the concert for me...(one of MANY!!!)

#15 Rockband has the whole moving pictures album in the game and it is all original master track recordings. They also have closer to the heart, working man & the trees. All masters, not cover versions.
#18 - Posted 7/10/09 @1:16PM by State of Grace [contact]

#17 Willowdale is correct. We have Rock Band and I can vouch that they are all original master tracks (Moving Pictures album as well as Closer to the Heart, Working Man & The Trees).

I wouldn't pay for cover versions, it's just not the same experience. If a Rush song isn't available in the original master track recording then I am not interested. No substitute for the real thing. :D

I hope that TSOR will become available on Rock Band. I am only sticking with the one game.

PEACE...

17&18 so you specifically purchased the moving pic album eg: downloadable content. what I am talking about is RockBand (1) game, Tom Sawyer is on it and it is a cover which is sad. I totally agree with you I wouldn't buy the cover either. I wouldn't have bothered with the game if I knew in advance that it was a cover of TS and would have waited for MP to be available for download for the wii.
