I Love You Man soundtrack to feature Rush
Posted at 11:17AM | comments (33)

The new Paul Rudd and Jason Segal film I Love You Man releases next Friday, March 20th. As I'd reported previously, the movie contains many Rush references including a cameo from the band themselves. Geddy recently spoke a bit about this cameo in his Q104.3 radio interview with Jim Kerr last week and expressed how much he and the band enjoyed participating. The soundtrack for the movie is now available for pre-order and - as expected - it will contain a couple of Rush songs: Tom Sawyer and Limelight along with an amusing cover of Limelight as performed by Rudd and Segal which you can listen to using the player below. You can check out the complete tracklist at this link. Thanks to axe for the heads up.

FIRST AGAIN!

Not a bad cover. It's not RUSH, but it's pretty good. Vocals need redoing though. It feels like only 1 of the people can sing high enough.

Who thinks Geddy should add the ad lib vocals at the end?
#3 - Posted 3/10/09 @11:33AM by AFarCryfromFBN [contact]

I hope Geddy and Alex NEVER choose to use that lyrical ending!!! :)
#4 - Posted 3/10/09 @11:35AM by RushFanForever [contact]

What about The Tragically Hip who did a short snippet of the song when Rush were inducted into the 1994 Juno Hall Of Fame?

The Smashing Pumpkins apparently did an unplugged version in 2000 according to the Power Windows Rush site.

Would Billy Corgan and Gord Downie's vocal range each suit the song, even though it is not as high a voice pitch as Geddy's?

...caught in the cameras eye?

I can't help but think that this is what all the rest of sound like whenever we sing this song, ha HA! Gonna be interesting at RatCon to just listen when this song gets played.

Whoops sorry bad proofreading on my part, I meant to type "what all the rest of US sound like"

Hi Zitro!! Calmed down yet?

Nobody's really ever UNsafe around me (but don't tell anyone)

Cameos in movies now too! Like a fine wine our boys are doing well eh?!

It's come full circle now for Jason Segal -- he of the Neil Peart-worshipping character Nick on "Freaks & Geeks," now has the actual members of Rush guesting in his own feature film.

I still say this is the best opening I've ever seen to any show, ever...

Nick's in his own world, and to him, he is drumming and singing perfectly to the album...and then Nick's dad walks downstairs and we can see how he really sounds. I can relate to this scene on a personal level. :-)

#6 Zitro, this sounds MUCH BETTER than me singing it. I can't even sing as high as Geddy does now, much less back in the early 80s. The neighbors might call the police and report someone killing a cat if I sing this song at RatCon.

"all the worlds indeed a stage"....that part gets a little sketchy.

I'd need someone to kick me in the privates to top out at that note.

Good on 'em though....nice cover.

Yo dog...it started out sketchy and ended weak but the middle part was good. You had some pitch problems in there too. C'mon dog...that's a big song and I'm just curious why you chose that??? Ya know...I just wasn't feeling it!

Good one TMMB!
Or, in my wording, it sucked. :-)
FYI I think his name is spelled Segel.

Someone was talking about the Phish concert a couple of days ago in one of the threads. Just saw that $1.2 M of drugs and over $68,000 in cash was taken during narc raids of the concerts in Hampton, VA.

Ouch!!

Bloody awful....your not relevent, and your song choice was deplorable.
How did we let you through to Hollywood.....this was your one chance and you blew it.

Kelly D, are you being Paula? :P

I Love You, RUSH
#22 - Posted 3/10/09 @2:59PM by Kelly D [contact]

Hahaha! Yes, I suppose I am! Obviously, Paul and Jason are no Geddy but they're clearly fans and not all THAT bad :P
#23 - Posted 3/10/09 @3:44PM by AFarCryfromFBN [contact]

I gotta say I was impressed with their cover. All except the lyrical ad lib at the end. Damn fine job!!
#24 - Posted 3/10/09 @3:56PM by JohnnyTRacer [contact]

I am excited about the release of this movie! I plan on inviting some of my friends and having a great laugh together. I also want to promote my favorite band!!!

RUSH ON!

Interesting... Very garage bandish. Vocal timing not there, pitch & intonation not there, Lame ending. Good for youtube.

Spoiled by the real deal. :-)

I will go see the movie just because the boyz are in it.
#26 - Posted 3/10/09 @5:34PM by benlacy2112 [contact]

I saw a sneak preview of this last night...it was hilarious. Lots of Rush references too. Not only do they go see them in concert, but they jam on Tom Sawyer for the full length of the song, there are numerous Rush items (posters, albums, etc.) hanging in Jason Segel's "man-cave", and more. It's awesome.
#27 - Posted 3/10/09 @6:07PM by Rob [contact]

All we need is Lance to make a you tube video of air drumming to this version of the song.

Cmon Lance...DO IT!.....DO IT KNOW!!!

Now lol

wow, r u people serious??? ......."along with an amusing cover of Limelight as performed by Rudd and Segal".......did all of you critiquing this cover see the movie yet???....you don't even know the situation in movie when they were playing this........geez,lol......some of you, i'll tell ya......i thought it was pretty cool and obviously performed with a touch of sarcasm in there which some people didn't hear, you know the "bad ending"......

hey benlacy2112, thanks for the heads up, now i don't have 2 go c it, just saw most of it with ur review....lol
#30 - Posted 3/11/09 @2:33PM by mjhummer [contact]

Great Movie and its always great to see Rush. I would have to say I was impressed with attention to detail as far as Rush fans go. I give the movie 3 out 3 Rush Star's.
#31 - Posted 3/11/09 @6:07PM by RushSignals1982 [contact]

Why has it taken this long for Rush to appear like this in a major motion picture?
#32 - Posted 3/13/09 @9:32AM by benlacy2112 [contact]

The only disappointment Rush-wise, was when Paul Rudd mispronounced Neil's last name. Yes, it happened.
#33 - Posted 3/14/09 @11:36PM by Mark In CTown [contact]

Fun version of the song. The guitar solo was really good. The vocals were actually impressive considering the high octaves Geddy reaches. I'd give it a solid B for effort.
