Rush Classic Rock Magazine feature article scans
Posted at 8:10AM | comments (132)

Classic Rock August 2007I'd mentioned in a post a couple weeks back that Rush was the subject of a cover and 7-page feature article in the August, 2008 edition of the UK's Classic Rock Magazine. The issue is out on newsstands now and reader freewilly Niels was kind enough to scan the article for us. The scans are at the bottom of the post.

Peter Makowski sat down with Rush before the May 10th show at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV and interviewed all three members. It's a very complimentary article with a lot of great interview segments and photos. What has to be the most interesting snippet in my eyes is this revelation from Alex Lifeson when asked about their next studio album:

We really need to sit down and decide what we want to do with our next record. Whether we do an album or whether we just write songs over a period of time and release them as we go along. That's kind of attractive to me.

Very interesting indeed. This tells me that they have fulfilled their obligations regarding their contract with Atlantic records, and may do something unconventional for their next release of new material. We shall see.

Hey, dssn! What's up? I only got it because I have to go to work at 10 and I'm addicted to checking RIAB. Hehe.

I'm here on vacation in Canada, of all places (up in Ottawa, so no, I have not seen the boys yet LOL) and I can't get away from this site. I'm heading out today to get Raodshow to read on the plane tomorrow. This really is a great site.

Good Morning folks!

Interesting statement:
Whether we do an album or whether we just write songs over a period of time and release them as we go along. That's kind of attractive to me.

I honestly don't know what to think about that! So the option is to just dump one giant rat pellet on us or place a bunch of small ones in the automatic dispenser and let them trickle out as they come.

I think I would rather be a fat rat bastard then a skinny one!
#7 - Posted 8/1/08 @8:41AM by Zitro

Ah, Lance, thanks! We can always count on you to give us something to wrap our brains around....

I don't know why I'm having trouble letting this go, but for some reason over the last day I've had Peter and the Wolf stuck in my head, imagining how it would sound if RUSH did the arrangement!

#8 - Posted 8/1/08 @8:45AM by Kelly D [contact]

I'd much rather have a new album than a series of songs over time.
#9 - Posted 8/1/08 @8:54AM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Zitro-Maybe they will input a little clip for you on the next tour when they do Cygnus X-1 Book II prior to the dispute between Apollo and Dionysus.

Bringing wolves and cold starvation
and the hearts of men despaired

Kelly D-I'm with you! I want a big helping of Ratatouille!
#10 - Posted 8/1/08 @9:12AM by unktehila [contact]

i can't believe they'd release a bunch of songs individually...
a great, artistic album (Rush, Floyd, PT, Tool, etc.) is special as one entity - the whole greater than the sum of it's parts. there's something so powerful about that, above and beyond 99% of typical music fodder. and Rush always fit into that category.

but, shit, i'd be incredibly grateful for any future new material from the boys.
#11 - Posted 8/1/08 @9:16AM by ghost__rider [contact]

I'd much rather have a new album AND a series of albums over time.

MUTHABRO - that's just silly. Your mother can't be your brother. sheesh.
#12 - Posted 8/1/08 @9:18AM by freewilly [contact]

I'd also rather have a new album than separate songs, any additional songs to an album through download would be great of course, I hope it comes down to something like that.
#13 - Posted 8/1/08 @9:23AM by lilvictory [contact]

I just love hearing ramblings of new material coming out! Little trickles or one big lump - it's all good, cause you know they'll have to BACK IT WITH ANOTHER TOUR!! I just love knowing they're out there doing what they do best!
#14 - Posted 8/1/08 @9:24AM by freewilly [contact]

PS I love the statement on the cover (which you can't read here I think):

-----------------------------------------
RUSH
Surviving tragedy.
Defying fashion.
Rock's uncoolest band take on the world. Again.
-----------------------------------------

Well to me Rush is THE 'coolest' band ever (depends on definition of cool) but I understand what they mean, Rush is not about fashion and 'being cool' like a lot of sh*tty rock bands.
#15 - Posted 8/1/08 @9:26AM by Fiat

I hear the "release an album" argument but we just don't live in those times anymore. It's not like they haven't been there and done that. I think it would be a nice departure for them and might yield some interesting results. Their approach/mindset might be different. The pressure of the album formation process would be lifted and they could focus more on the song itself. Just a random thought.
#16 - Posted 8/1/08 @9:30AM by Zitro

And while we wait, I'll just have fun playing "catch-up"... there are so many knowledgeable folks here, that I've been "studying" lyrics & such so I don't feel so ignorantly lost!

THE ED MAN ALERT
*****************

Hermy and myself had an e-mail conversation the other day in regards to ED and RIAB. We are the beneficiaries of snippets like this and others that get to us quicker than other blogs. Kinda like being at the head table in a wedding-The plates are served at that table prior to the others.

A little reminder to reward the person that works so hard to give us light speed info on the greatest band in the world. It is not asking much to send the brother $3, $5, $10, $25 whatever. Well deserved indeed!
#20 - Posted 8/1/08 @10:01AM by Slash [contact]

"This tells me that they have fulfilled their obligations regarding their contract with Atlantic records"

NOT true. A very reliable source deep inside the Rush organization told me in July that they have one more album in their contract w/Atlantic. He expects them tour in support of it around 2010 or 2011.
#21 - Posted 8/1/08 @10:03AM by Zitro

#19 Right ON, Lance

And RIAB when you're done with that, go here www.thehungersite.com

It's awesome that Rush is getting this attention, but dude, do these magazines have to continue labeling our boys as a dorky sci-fi/fantasy band? I mean, really. It's like these mags aren't even listening to the past 20 years of Rush's music.

...regardless, I'm totally going out and buying this month's issue of Classic Rock. Rush on!

Awesome picture on the cover of the band. Great news from Alex about potential avenues they may explore with their next project. All I can say is, THANK YOU RUSH!

The best band ever.
#24 - Posted 8/1/08 @10:46AM by Praetorian [contact]

ED deserves his own Bash. EDCON09. Wasn't that a topic a few hundred threads back? He's up for it, when I told him about it. Near OHIO would be the best place. I'm on the West Coast,
I'd take the ride. So would glortiz,ms, limlight,Pardus, and probably others.
#25 - Posted 8/1/08 @10:51AM by AFarCryfromFBN [contact]

Quote from Geddy - "It's hard to say what we'll incorporate in the next tour, it depends on the need."

One of the most hope inducing lines in the article!!
#26 - Posted 8/1/08 @10:54AM by Ricbass4003 [contact]

Great article. Is that our own jillybean in the fourground with Alex. I sort of didn't like how the article stated that fans that have been around forever fireup for the old stuff and stuff our faces for the new stuff. that isn't true.

I think I could see RUSH doing and album but pre-releasing a single on Itunes before hand. Kind of like the build up with far cry. like a teaser.

This article answered one of my questions. How does geddy pick out his stage clothes, after all we know he has stage shoes from the rio doc.. but he performs in what he wore that day. Now that is just a regular guy. I like it! Something else to love about Ged!
#27 - Posted 8/1/08 @11:13AM by SF in Prague [contact]

#25-- WELL SAID!!!
Geddy's simply but crucial statement leaves no room for nervous rush-fan worrying. We're getting more. Lerxst says it, Dirk says it, and Pratt wouldn't have any reason to take more bufferins!
MORE RUSH TO COME TO THOSE WHO ARE PATIENT!!!!
Thank the Prime Mover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And ed! And solar eclipses! (Praetorian thnx)

Geddy also talked about putting out a dvd for every tour that they do form now on.

This also seems to imply long term forward thinking.

exit... didn't I read somewhere on here that Red Rocks iw closing after this summer series?

Of course, I could be confused.

I hope not....I keep reading about the best place to experience a concert is at red rocks. I don't see why they would close it down.

Great article. Thanks to Ed and "freewilly Niels" for posting it. As the tour is over and I'm going through the withdrawls it's nice to read something like this. We still have the live DVD coming out in the fall and hopefully the documentary later next year. Maybe by then Rush will be back in the studio and we'll be blessed to see them once again. I don't know what I'm gonna do when they call it quits but from the tone in this article I think that day may be later down the road than people think. They are just too damn creative to give it up. It's what drives them and they still have a lot of music to give back to us.
#45 - Posted 8/1/08 @2:56PM by chutch15 [contact]

Wow. That photo covering the spread of the first two pages of the article is fantastic. I'd pay good money of have a large, framable version of that!

Lance,

Looks like we got at least one more pellet to puff with this nice little magazine article. It's not all that little really. I said it after the Colbert Report, and I'll say it again after reading this well-crafted piece - Neil has come home from his exile and it reminds a person how time does somehow manage to heal even the deepest cuts life can draw out.

Rush is a tradition. In a world where chaos always seems to have a two-step, false-start lead over control, perhaps nothing is more comforting than tradition.

Bear with me for a few moments while I tell you a story about tradition. On a crisp fall afternoon a few years ago I attending a college football game with my father. Not any college game mind you, because we are from Nebraska you see. Other states have breath-taking shore lines and sky-scrapping mountains. In Nebraska, we have the Huskers. On each and every Saturday for the best 50-odd years, Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska becomes the third-largest city in the state as 76,000 fans pack the bleachers. Many of the tickets are passed on for generation to generation, so its not uncommon to sit with the same group of folks for decades.

We love the game - just as we love the music of Rush - no doubt about it. But thats not what its about. It's about the precious moments leading up to kick off as the National anthem plays and the fall sun makes the whole world looks as if it had been momentarily painted with vanilla. In those short-lived seconds, a pleasant yet painful lump grows in your throat as your realize that despite everything chaos has throw at us, here we are all once again to celebrate something we love.

As the National Anthem draws to a close, a sudden explosion of sound pulls my eyes skyward as jet-black Stealth bomber buzzes the crowd with an unexpected surprise. As I pull my baseball cap back over my head I give a quick look to my left to share the excitement of the moment with my dad. His eyes are following the jets vapor trail traces into the horizon and I seen him swallow the lump from his throat. His eyes, now 20 years older than the first time we spent a Saturday afteroon such as this, shine with the suggestion of tears. So are mine.

Despite everything. Against the odds, against the grains of time - All of us are here once again to celebrate this thing we love. Sorry chaos. Looks like tradition wins again.

Thanks Rush. I appreciate it.
#53 - Posted 8/1/08 @4:09PM by dinoman [contact]

Beautiful story, oddtimes. And well conveyed.

I think (hope) we all have those moments in our lives when we are overcome by a positive, comfortable feeling so powerful that nothing but that moment matters. But at the same time, that moment carries so much with it that its as if all the joys and pains of our entire life are being celebrated within the moment.

I think many of us share that feeling when the lights go down and the first notes of a Rush show ring out. It might seem silly to some to have such an emotional feeling over a concert or a ball game, but it really is more than that. It is a way of coming back to something reliable, something that you don't have to fight against.
#54 - Posted 8/1/08 @4:23PM by AFarCryfromFBN [contact]

oddtimesarcasm, I don't think anyone could have conveyed more eloquently or with more genuine passion the story of your ball games. Had you been here when I read it, I would have had to turn my head to away to hid the moisture in my own eyes.

Very nicely written.

It reminds me of a line from the movie, "Dogma".

nice posts oddtime and dino.

a lyric that struck me off S&A was 'time if nothing else will do its worst'. no doubt neil was conscious of how that line contrasted with 'time will do its healing' from way back when. so as you point out, oddtime, that he has apparently healed quite a bit with time, he's also all too aware that 'anything can happen'. so we celebrate the moments like dino says and tell each other the good news first:)
#58 - Posted 8/1/08 @5:03PM by main monkey business [contact]

dinoman...I'm with you!(#53).....Even at my 40th Rush concert in Indy on July 24th....when Alex came out from behind the amps with the opening notes of "Limelight"...I still got a lump in my throat. And I just saw them a month before that in Cincy, and before that last year in Indy. I get a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye EVERY TIME they come onstage. I did at the first show, and I did at the 40th as well. It's like you said....it's like coming back to something reliable. People you can trust, people who have given you comfort and joy over the years that no one else but another rabid Rush fan could understand.

if the links bother you, don't click on them.....they obviously weren't meant for you then. Animation is a very creative art. Probably took a team of two or three months to

#65 - Posted 8/1/08 @6:00PM by dinoman [contact]

Praet - there was nothing "not nice" intended in my comment. I was simply commenting on the link you posted. It was in no way meant to be any sort of slight towards you. It just seems very obvious to me that it was not created to accompany Hemispheres. The "video" looks very much like some sort of computer video game (if I played such games, I might even know what it was).

I apologize if my comment sounded offensive to you.

Though I would like my 5 min back :)

To Lance, FarCryFrom, Dino and anyone I'm forgetting -

What internet blogging lacks in income, it more than makes up for in insta-satisfaction when I get feedback (I am the seeker anyone?) such as this for my touchy-feely tales of Rush love. When we were good, we actually did the wave all the time in Lincoln. God we are dorks. Imagine 80,000 blonde-haired, blue-eyed wasps waving around like a bunch of little french fries. It is a truly horrific and yet beautiful sight.

God I love RUSH! I love this website!!!! Life is good. You Canadians are about the best neighbors a bullying Super Power could ever ask for. Don't you hosers worry about wars and such, we are more than happy to invade and conquer in the name of the Western Hemisphere!!!!!!! (Circumstances anyone?)

This article was much better than the Rolling Stone piece.

The current issue of RS has the Jonas Brothers on the cover. XD and an article of Guitar Hero Vs. Rock Band. How low is low for them. Not a real Rock Mag as it once was in its heyday.

Starting a vigil for the tour DVD...Encore!

This article was a nice breath of fresh air after the Rolling Stone article whick was OK at best when compared to the TRUTHs in this article! Take note ROLLING STONE!!@#$#@! RS finally does a story on Rush a few weeks ago and DOES NOT even put them on the cover. Then a week or so later they do a second report on their website trying to save face explaining how they have covered Rush positively over the years... What a farce! Trust me... in the end only RUSH and us fans will win by having class and tact. This new Rock Bank/Guitar Hero generation into RUSH is just as smart as the generation that grew up on them. You simply can not survive in this new economy allienating the whole world RS! You must grab the WHOLE market if you are to survive and profit. The Jonas brothers on the cover of RS but never RUSH... lol ha ha ha... to friggen funny.

I was semi going through PTRWD (Post Traumatic Rush Withdrawl Disorder) the past week but the stars have finally all come into alignement once again with the hope and exitement about what the future holds for us Rushians... my goal is to flourish in my life and career over the next 1-2 years having the amazing past 2 summers of Rush and it's memories in a row to fuel it (including al the memories from reading this blog daily) ....lite up with anticipation we arrive (at this magical turning point night)... alive for my future and OUR future and Rush's Future. Yes... it's a good time to be alive... Yes, it sure is!

Releasing the songs "as we go along" also tells me they will be released solely (I believe) in digital format, for on-line purchase. This is obviously the most cost effective method of releasing material.

After that, a tour. Bands with extensive libraries could use this method to offset the losses suffered by illegal downloads.

IF this falls true to my interpretation, it's sad. Because I for one relish release day, and a multitudes (album) of songs at once. I miss the total experience of 'large' artwork on vinyl. I don't want to be tossed a bone occasionally. I would much rather hear the band deliver a full release of sessions obtained through a few weeks of writing.

I can NOT think of any other band that has been able to show 'where they are now' musically, like these guys. Observed, in each albums release.

Now, getting back to where I started. I know this method will be most cost effective, but damn...... I will miss those full releases. Thank GOD they may be done with Atlantic.

Would it not be sweet to resart the Moon label, and take full control of future FULL releases? Boys, talk to SIXX or Perry & Tyler. Get some enlightenment on obtaining library control.

windy....(#75)Congratulations on getting Junior. I hated to see him go. Being a Reds fan, I couldn't stand the way the media, fans, and management treated him while he was here. Lots of promises made to him when he arrived, none of them kept. I'm keeping track of what he does with the Sox...his first game was very good. I do hope the Sox win it all, and Junior gets his ring. One thing....don't expect him to be the guy from Seattle. After about 7 or 8 surgeries, and the fact he's 38 years old, he's still great, but he's not 18 anymore. Go Sox!

hello Prat, et al!

I hugely support an EDCon back East (note the capital E),
and there is no better place than Cleveland - not because of the dreaded hall of fame, but its just a cool town, and close to an even cooler town, Erie, PA. Lots of fine beer, and plenty of water front venues. What more could we want?

EDcon would HAVE to be in Cleveland, Ohio...

Simply to honor Ed, and also, that is where RUSH was discovered.

Uk Rush fan here. Is it just me or was Classic Rock mag invented for Rush (not that there's anything wrong with that ) but I'm sure they've been mentioned in every single edition since the mag was born. Interesting to note that Rush don't seem to be cool enough for the Kerrangs of this world despite them rocking far harder than most of those awfully mean looking bands that seem to fill their pages. Wish we had a chance to see the 2nd leg of the tour as from the reviews it sounded great and makes the live DVD already somewhat dated even before its release.
#87 - Posted 8/2/08 @12:20PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

I would be totally up for an EDcon in Cleveland. The plans should already be in the works damn it!

A gathering like that would be the Rush testosteron booster needed to help many of us through the pellet lulls. Can you imagine a shitload of us together talking Rush? It would sound like a full vacancy 20'x 200' chicken coup............86 the rotisserie.

#88 - Posted 8/2/08 @12:22PM by main monkey business [contact]

I think that's one of the special qualities about Rush. The media says their not "cool". Casual fans don't even know they're touring, much less have a cd out that has gone gold. The R&R Hall of Shame won't induct them. But yet these guys just go out and pack 10,000-12,000 in at their shows, sell cd', video's, etc, and still have rabid fans (me included). I like the fact the media doesn't think their "cool". They don't want to be classified with the top 40 bands of the world, and I like it that way myself!
#89 - Posted 8/2/08 @12:26PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

MMB! It doesn't bother me at all to see Rush as the underdogs. Who gives a flying F@$#! The boys are like a fine red wine. It's an acquired taste many will never get.
On the other hand, I would sure like to see them being recognized as ONE of the greatest to ever grace the earth.
#90 - Posted 8/2/08 @12:38PM by unktehila [contact]

but what about shrEDcon?
#91 - Posted 8/2/08 @12:52PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Unk Man-You know that will definitely happen in my neck of the woods next year. I think the 2nd week in June 2009. Thats IF........Ikagila is not up to their knees in salt water sinking the Galapagos brother!

#92 - Posted 8/2/08 @2:38PM by main monkey business [contact]

Lance....I second that! That's why I like them. They ARE the underdog, but they don't care...and neither do I. They prove how good they are by being able to still sell new material, and not resorting to being classified as a "nostalgia band". I think the fans will help prove that point. That being said...I think the rock history books have no choice but to classify them as one of the greatest bands to ever assemble. It's not just Neil....all three of them are world-class musicians, and how often do you see one band have that many top notch musicians in it?? We are lucky enough to be able to witness and enjoy it...because it will never happen again.
#93 - Posted 8/2/08 @2:41PM by main monkey business [contact]

Lance, zitro, glortiz, gedhed, Rob, etc.....
While you are all enjoying yourself tonight....please think of me, and pray for my sanity as well. My daughter is having 5 girls over to spend the night for her 14th birthday......they're here already, and screaming and hollering. Needless to say this is torture!!!!! Hopefully my wife takes them somewhere tonight to give me some peace of mind!
#94 - Posted 8/2/08 @4:08PM by Zitro

#93 Tell you what, MMB, hold onto this thought: Remember my story about LilZitro & her cousin at age 11 @ Riverbend to see HANSON? So, Dear, it could be worse LOL!!

See, RIAB, parenting's a sacrifice, but everything's a trade-off because LilZitro's also been with us to see RUSH amongst others .............

I'll pray for you anyway MMB, and whatever you do (assuming they'll allow you to occupy their space tonight) do NOT let them put anything in your hair or on your face :-)

ENJOY!!

Today is a day that I never thought would come.

It is official - I am RUSHED out. Overdone and Overcooked.

Saturady, August 2, 2008

Starting tomorrow... I will begin a mandatory NO RUSH exposure week for myself.

I am taking a few "other cds" and putting them in my car. Gonna FORCE myself to listen to other music for a bit. I am so over-the-top spent right now on RUSH. Don't get me wrong here folks, this is a fitting exile, and simply goes to show just how much I've put into the last 1 1/2 years.

The boys are taking their break, and so am I.

I know it will only last a day or two, but the first step is acknowledging you have a problem...

No big long winded threads on who's the biggest fan and whatnot. We are ALL FANS, that's why we post messages to this website, but I gotta tell ya, after eatting Filet Mignon everyday for over a year, it will be nice to grub down a few hot dogs.

Denny Crane
#96 - Posted 8/2/08 @4:17PM by Denny Crane [contact]

Gonna start with grubbing up some old Genesis and Marillion rat pellets. Chew on those for awhile and see what they taste like.

Any suggestions on "OTHER THEN RUSH MUSIC" ???

Denny Crane
#97 - Posted 8/2/08 @4:22PM by unktehila [contact]

Denny - i've done that exact thing before, taken a week or two completely off of Rush.
the little time off/mental break makes me dive right in to the RushFreshness with renewed hunger and vigor. plus gets me in the frame of mind to digest many other musical avenues... Miles Davis, Porcupine Tree, Funkadelic, Tool, Beethoven, Coltrane, The Mars Volta, Muse, Radiohead, Floyd, etc., etc., etc....
#98 - Posted 8/2/08 @4:49PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

"but I gotta tell ya, after eatting Filet Mignon everyday for over a year, it will be nice to grub down a few hot dogs."

I am LMFAO!! So Denny, what your saying is that any other flavored music rat pellet tastes like an Oscar Meyer Weiner? Ladies and Gentlemen, thats a f!#king Rush fan!!

The Unk Man hit some killers-I add Yes and Kansas to that group.
#99 - Posted 8/2/08 @4:55PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

MMB regarding the house full of 14 year old girls-I say throw on some Hannah Montana /Jonas Brothers and hit the other room with a set of headphones and a side order of...........................................you know the rest brother!

Speaking of taking a very brief Rush break...... There's some real slop on Indie Radio these days. So, I switched over to KLOS (LA "classic rock") and they're playing "Fly by Night..."

It just can't be avoided!

Shredder!!! Thankfully my wife took them to the mall for awhile. Watched some of the R30 video, now I think I'll watch the Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies in about an hour. It's great watching the NFL Network at this time of year....when the season is almost upon us!!! I have a sense of newness, hoping my team will do something positive this year......but it's the Bengals, and I won't let myself hope too much.....only to be disappointed! But they have a new defensive coordinator that is very good.....so one can hope I guess.

Does anyone know when the new Classic Rock issue will ACTUALLY hit the stands? I went to Borders and they have the previous issue, with Lynyrd Skynyrd on the cover, but not the new one yet. Does Borders wait until they sell out of an issue before they put the new one out?

Regarding post #95 & the like..

I thought about taking a break from Rush, after pretty much listening to them non-stop since the first leg of the tour began. Then I thought to myself, am I insane?

haha
#106 - Posted 8/2/08 @8:00PM by Rob

I havent taken a break from Rush since 1983!!

BTW.....MMB!..Crank up some Miley Cyrus and start dancing in front of them....they'll leave you alone!

Or do some Lance style air drumming to Rush! Ha! They'll be on the phone to their folks in no time!

MOM! get me out of here!
#107 - Posted 8/2/08 @8:04PM by PetieLee [contact]

#95, Denny, that's cool. I am listening to other stuff between my Rush music today. Some of this stuff I haven't listened to for YEARS but then once I listen to some of that stuff, I end up going back to my Rush catalog or solo Geddy, get my quick Rush fix...and then continue on with my other listening pleasures.

Life is good!

I will not, however, change my exercise habits...only Rush DVDs...only thing that MOVES ME! Woo Hoo!
#108 - Posted 8/2/08 @8:30PM by GedHed [contact]

#93: Hahahaaa! Been there, Dude! With 2 daughters, I've been there more often than not! And yeah, it's a trip. But they're fun, too. Not to mention that i spite of all the chaos, it's *way* more comforting to me to know all the kids are at my house & I know what's happening! Don't think I've ever really stopped to count how many of my daughters' friends (guys *and* girls) have literally moved into this house with us over the past 18 years. I think the number is...ummm...lots! lol! But you're definitely in my thoughts tonight.

Psssst! I bet they all think you're cool (or whatever the word is for "cool" now days)! ;)

#108 - Valid points all GedHed. I'm glad those teenage years are behind us for sure..... The concensus amongst LilZitro's friends about me is that I'm cool, but I'm not THAT cool, and that Glortiz is not cool at all and must be feared. We like it like that too lol.

Dammit somebody suggest a song QUICK I cannot get MMMMMBop outta my head!

#111 - Posted 8/2/08 @9:07PM by GedHed [contact]

#95-98, etc.: I think it's a good thing to mix other stuff in every once in a while. Unk's list sounds good. I've been listening to a lot of PT lately. Blackfield (another SW band) is pretty good, too. I'm in love with 'Open Mind.'

link

The harmonies are just excellent. And the title cut 'Blackfield' is good, too.

link

So I guess I'd suggest Blackfield and Blackfield II. SW is way cool. I love his voice and his writing, even though he can be pretty dark. He just grabs me. MMB, took your advice & went & got myself a Mars Volta CD. We got 'Frances The Mute.' Have only listened to some of it, so I don't know it all that well yet. But these are talented musicians, I think. Thanks for the suggestion! I get so stuck in a rut, and I tend to listen to mostly old stuff. Need to break out of that. Nat likes Muse, so I think I'll check them out too. I've heard a bit in the car with her when she hooks up her ipod. It sounded good to me. I like Lance's suggestion of Kansas. Love those guys. Wish they'd get back together--with all original members. 'Can I Tell You' is one of my faaaaaves. Used to pull out my violin & play along with that one. :) Robbie Steinhart did such a great job with the band, even though he (from what I've read) wasn't much for jamming. I'll never forget sitting at his feet watching him play that thing, back in the '70s. That was one tight band. Nat's gotten me into Sufjan Stevens within the last year. He's a very talented young man. If you like calming music, he does that. But he does some pretty weird stuff as well. Here are a couple of links:

link

link

All of it is interesting, IMHO. He did a box set of 5 CDs of Christmas songs. Most are covers of very old stuff--one is of 'Come Thou Fount Of Every Blessing' (love it!)--but there are some original pieces in there, too. He even does his own version of our national anthem. He is amazing in that he can take almost any song and instantly make it his own--much as James taylor does. He's a very creative guy. Nat's totally in love with him. Ha! Well, I can see it. He's creative, and he's cute, too...Other than Blackfield & Sufjan, can't think of a whole lot new. I'm still trying to catch up on all the PT CDs. I'm finding that there's an awful lot out there!

Okay...I've blabbed enough for now...
#112 - Posted 8/2/08 @9:24PM by GedHed [contact]

#110: I bet they think you're both cooler than you know. The minute I met you I just had a gut feeling that you were cool, and within about 30 seconds, I knew I was right!

And yeah...you need something to get that *noise* outa' your head! Mmmm-bop! Yikes! Here ya' go...

GedHead, you guys got the heat wave from H*ll! I think it is going to move over here to Dayton in the next few days, yes we are in the dog days! That's for sure!

Thanks for your recommendations above, I will definitly check them out but cannot promise when, I am still on my Rush high and honestly, after Indy I don't know when I will get down from it. I am just riding and loving it with R30 on the tube right now!

But I have lots of recommendations about other bands if you are willing, I just need a bit if time to wrap my brain around it.

MMB - Sorry, been there, done that and there is something to be said about having "your space." Go there, close the door when you need to and let the When my daughter was younger, I had a blast with her girlfriends, up to a point and they loved me. But as Zitro stated, that has changed and is appropriate and willing to discuss it off line to anyone who is interested.

I also have a nephew who is married to one of my nieces, a very good young man and lady need I say. He loves Rush and I hope he will be joining RIAB here shortly. When he does, I will let you know and hope that everyone welcomes him into the fold!

I feel for you guyzzz... 94 at night? It was 72 today in Seatte and sunny as hell. Absolutely amazing! Each night in the summer here it goes down to 55-58 at night... instant AC. I watched the sun set over the waters of Puget Sound tonight with the cityscape skyscrapers reflecting the setting sun on their window glass panes with the still snow-capped Olympic mountians dominating in the distance... I have lived all over the U S of A and NOTHING compares to the beauty in the Pacific North West... When RUSH hits the Gorge next tour... trust me... this is the magical place to meet. In all 8 shows I saw 2007-2008 Geddy was the Giddiest at the Gorge... I have no doubt Neil will write about the night in the future. It's to bad there are not many memories of it on You-Tube. Nothing that honestly shows the magic of the night that I have found searching day after day since. Anyways...

Very good article. I think I enjoyed Chris Norris' RS piece slightly little more, but this one was very nicely done. Pound for pound, it probably had the most tidbits of hope for future Rush recording and touring of any recent article I've read.

As for EDCON09, great idea Praet! I'm down. At Cleveland's Hard Rock?? Yeah Tim, start working on that card. Now, how are we going to get eeeeee up there :)

Ya... I guess the prerequisites for induction are also that you have had countless extramaritial affairs, have been arrested for Narcotic Possesion countless times, have been in drug rehab numerous times, died of an OD, etc... this list goes on. The RARHOF is a JOKE and RUSH is better without it!

WOW! Great article.

Honored to represent our female Rush fans!

Thanks for taking the time to scan it in and share!!!! How lucky we all are to be fans of this great band! I wish I spoke French! LOL!

I finally gave up yesterday and ordered my copy on line. I figured I'd wasted enough time and gas going from home to Border's to Barnes & Noble every day looking for the stupid thing--not to mention *not* needing the temptation of those Javanilla shakes they have at Borders. It just had to stop! lol! Anyway, I'm awaiting its arrival from the UK...

Enjoy the magazine GedHed, I'm the (dutch) buyer and scanner of the posted scans here. There should come a quite nice CD with it too, with 12 songs from different new, or kind of new, 'prog' bands. Nothing as great as RUSH of course but still enjoyable!
