Rush live performance on The Colbert Report?
Posted at 10:58AM | comments (233)

Rush on Colbert Report[Rush to make rare TV performance on 'Colbert']

UPDATE - 7/15@2:38PM: It's official. This Associated Press news release confirms their appearance tomorrow:

Rush will be appearing on "The Colbert Report," and it's not Limbaugh.

The Canadian band Rush, which hasn't performed on U.S. television in more than three decades, will play their classic "Tom Sawyer" on the Comedy Central show Wednesday (11:30 p.m. EST). The Geddy Lee-led trio, which is currently on tour, hasn't played on U.S. television since 1975. ...

Thanks to John for the heads up.

----- snip -----

Rush has a couple of days off before Thursday's show in Hershey. I have it on good authority that they'll be spending these days off in New York City. Why you say? One likely reason is that Geddy Lee will be attending tonight's All-star Game at Yankee Stadium. But the other rumored reason is that Rush will be taping an episode of the Colbert Report on Wednesday! I'm hearing that they're booked to make a one song (Tom Sawyer) appearance as a spoof on the whole Rush / Rush Limbaugh name confusion. Colbert has had fun with this subject in the past (see this post) and the show's director is a big Rush fan, so it's certainly plausible. If this rumor is true, it would be Rush's first live performance of this sort that I'm aware of. They've never done these type of one or two song live performances in the past that are typical of late night shows such as the Tonight Show, Late Night or Saturday Night Live. More as I learn it. Hopefully there's some truthiness to this rumor. :)

Colbert IS Rush!
#2 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:05AM by unktehila [contact]

Colbert rules!... this would be a huge RatPellet for us all... i really hope they do it, it'd be a perfect way to showcase a one tune Rush performance.
#3 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:06AM by ghost__rider [contact]

I wonder if they'll play 'Limbo'?
#4 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:07AM by Bx3 [contact]

This would be sooooo F*n cool!

#6 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:29AM by Kelly D [contact]

Holy shit, Rush AND Stephen Colbert- this is too good. Two of my loves in the same studio?! This'll be a mainstay on my boyfriend's DVR if it comes to pass!
#7 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:31AM by Bx3 [contact]

Yes...god bless the DVR!
#8 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:34AM by slavetothehormone

I would love that!

Favorite punditry show + favorite band

Maybe the Colbert bump will help Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It's about time we put Rush "On Notice". As for Rolling Stone, they're pretty much "Dead to Me".

Yeah, as you can see, I am a fan.
#9 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:37AM by Kelly D [contact]

Wait- Rush being "on notice" wouldn't be a good thing.

P.S. Anyone see the Mr. Potato Hitler in the soundcheck gallery?! Haahahah.
#10 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:39AM by Praetorian [contact]

I knew he was going to the game. They planned the tour around it!!!!!!!!
#11 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:42AM by windycitygirl [contact]

i love the soundcheck pics. those are sweet!
john arrowsmith does such a wonderful job taking these pics.
love it!!

whoa, those Barbies......how does Alex concentrate......and why is mini-Neil so far away from the blondies.......;) kidding.
#12 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:44AM by Kelly D [contact]

Those are some tiny outfits, windy. . . WE certainly wouldn't go that far!!!
#13 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:45AM by slavetothehormone

#9- Thanks for the correction. For a moment, I forgot "grizzly bears" were On Notice.

Okay, take off Rush and put on The Grammys. Yeah, that's better.
#14 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:46AM by TestForEcho09 [contact]

Nice to see so much positive news for the band...thanks Ed!! The new pics are sweet...Neil is smiling in a few!!

Rush Rules!

so is Barry Bonds!!!

A huge pellet indeed Unk! Doing the Colbert would be awesome!

Good call on the All Star Game Praetorian. Gotta little Nostradamus in you there mister.

slavetothehormone-Shortest posts I have ever experienced from you dude. You alright?

Ahhhhh Countdown......2 days to Hershey, 4 days to Bristow.

So much exciting Rush related news lately! With all this promoting going on I can't help but think the Boys are planning on being a working band for some time to come. How exciting is that??!!!

Ok Boys - finish up the tour, take your much deserved rest, then back to the studio. More new music!!
#18 - Posted 7/15/08 @12:43PM by GRgreg [contact]

If they do do the show (Did I just say doo-doo?) I will boldly assume that it will be a song from the current set list (already "programmed" in the 'puters, and no time-wasting rehersals.) Easy in, easy out. Remember, some, but not all, of the crew will be needed to pull this off and I bet they were looking forward to a day off. But then again, maybe they'd LOVE to see their band on a TV show, too!

I'll bet on Limelight to win, with MalNar to place, and longshot Tom Sawyer to show. It's only a 30 minute show, so a longer song is out of the question, sorry Tom.
#19 - Posted 7/15/08 @12:44PM by xanadurush [contact]

I agree #17 - Finally, Rolling Stone (which is one to keep if you haven't picked it up yet), Hollywood Star & Colbert! Happy Day!

Off Topic:

This came to me in a dream last night: a sign to get Neil's attention...

"WHO IS JOHN GALT?"
DID *HE* GET STICKS??
#21 - Posted 7/15/08 @12:58PM by GRgreg [contact]

Lamb Saag, you'd probably spend half the evening explaining that one! All you need to do to get sticks is make a sign, (doesn't matter what it says) and give it to some little hottie in the first 3 rows. Kelly will keep one, you get the other.

Easy.
#22 - Posted 7/15/08 @1:02PM by slavetothehormone

Lance- I'm perfectly alright. Remember, so far we're a bit unsure. Until we get some solid facts, I might not be talking as much.

Besides, not a lot of other posts here are exactly novel-length.

Cannot wait to see it- like to see what would happen if Stephen got into a discussion with Neil.

Like I've said before (and I have) - Rush has been coming up EVERYWHERE during the tour.
#23 - Posted 7/15/08 @1:07PM by Hakky [contact]

Bring on the truthiness!
#24 - Posted 7/15/08 @1:28PM by hergest [contact]

Lamb Saag...I love your sign! Many, many moons ago when I read the dedication to Ayn Rand on 2112 I had to read all her novels. I think Neil would appreciate the reference!
#25 - Posted 7/15/08 @1:28PM by Lamb Saag [contact]

re: #21

GRgreg, you need to read more books (or do some Googling).

Neil reportedly put that infamous rhetorical question from Ayn Rand's "Atlas Shrugged" on his luggage and other gear back in the '70's. He would certainly understand the significance of that on a sign held by someone begging for sticks. There, now you still have your whole evening ahead of you...

: )
#26 - Posted 7/15/08 @2:05PM by GRgreg [contact]

Lamb,
Oh, I got it the first time. (I'm a long time fan) I just don't think everyone will. If you pull it off, I'm sure Neil would be quite impressed by your cleverness. Probably get some picks thrown in there, too.

If you're at Indy, I'll look for your sign!

To all, isn't this just an AWESOME year to be a Rush fan???? I've never been so in-tune with them, and think alot of that has to do with this site.

Thanks Ed.
#27 - Posted 7/15/08 @2:05PM by Praetorian [contact]

Thanks LTS.

Mr. Favre- Sir it's your own fault for jumping the retirement gun. Are you going to be like Eli and refuse to play or man up?? I've always respected you, Brett you are being a baby!!
Sorry-off my soapbox.

Watch Geddy end up visiting Joe Buck in the booth tonight calling the game.

might actually watch TV for this one :)
#31 - Posted 7/15/08 @2:48PM by GedHed [contact]

Holy smoke. I absolutely love this! Can't wait for tomorrow! Lovelovelove Colbert--even more, now!
#32 - Posted 7/15/08 @2:50PM by MiriyaB [contact]

^good job, Earthshine_sf -- I was just about to post that! :)

LambSaag, you should ABSOLUTELY make that sign! I love it:

"WHO IS JOHN GALT?"
DID *HE* GET STICKS??

...but contrary to what GRgreg says (#21), you don't have to be a "little hottie in the 1st 3 rows":

I was in 17th row Ged's side in Manchester, 3rd person in from the aisle, and SOMEHOW, rockin' out in the middle of "Workin' Them Angels," I feel a tap on my shoulder--

in the row behind me, some guy in black with a blue-lit flashlight has crept in and wants my attention.
(Does he want to see my ticket? Does he think I have a camera? Whuddid I do?)

"These are from Neil--"

... and he hands me a pair o' sticks.

!!!

SO: there is hope even outside of the 1st 3 rows!

I am five feet tall, so I'm definitely little, but whether I qualify as a hottie I would not dare venture. ;)
I've put a pic of me with the sticks on my blog, but I wouldn't say it's an incredibly flattering one. But it has sticks--who cares about ME?!!?)
#33 - Posted 7/15/08 @2:52PM by unktehila [contact]

awesome, can't wait to watch it.
they are going to blow the doors off the place. glad it's Tom Sawyer as well, the song is a monster even after hearing it thousands of times, i love it.
i can picture Colbert running into the picture during Neil's solos and going berserk.
#34 - Posted 7/15/08 @2:56PM by Praetorian [contact]

Alex is probably like,"Of all the songs....................."

#32 MiriyaB...What an awesome story! That's incredible! I went to your blog...don't sell yourself short; you look GREAT! My husband is now tired of hearing about trying to get sticks on the next tour!!!
#38 - Posted 7/15/08 @3:04PM by joanneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee [contact]

#36 on your knees is a good start but I didn't hear please yet...

is it hot over there??

re: #32

I would make the sign if I was going to any shows. However, someone can make the sign for themselves, and let us know if it works. (Disclaimer: I relinquish any and all intellectual property rights to the phrasing of such a sign. Please use it!)

And hey that's a cool story. Did you do anything specific to attract Neil's attention?
#42 - Posted 7/15/08 @3:12PM by Praetorian [contact]

Neil has eagle eyes. Picked you out of 500 Rushgeeks like myself!!!Great Wall Pics!!

I do believe it's time for a "The Women of RIAB Calendar". MiriyaB, what month do you want to be?
#45 - Posted 7/15/08 @3:31PM by Sean [contact]

Rush pandering to the left?!? Color me shocked! Tom Sawyer and not one of the 9 songs from Snakes & Arrows that they are playing live? It's not Moving Pictures that needs the sales help and exposure..but Snakes & Arrows.

But I get it.

I just wish they would have been this willing to play these kinds of shows decades ago when the music was a million times better.

(Runs for cover)

Bored? Watch Jose Conseco get his but kicked here link
#47 - Posted 7/15/08 @3:50PM by Sub-Xanadu Man [contact]

No need for cover Sean. We are all friend here, right? LMAO

I agree that I wish that they were more apt to do this kind of stuff 20-30 years ago but I'd also say that, for me, Snakes and Arrows is heads and shoulders above anything they have done since at least Presto in my opinion. Can't wait to hear it live on Saturday. ...Wind Blows is a GREAT song. :-)

And that says alot coming from me since I definitely lean towards their stuff pre-1985.
#48 - Posted 7/15/08 @3:52PM by Sean [contact]

Sub-Xanadu you have a fair argument with the since Presto comment. I can honestly say that is the LAST complete Rush album I loved every song from.
#49 - Posted 7/15/08 @3:55PM by GedHed [contact]

#32: MiriyaB: Must have been quite a surprise from that far back. Good for you--and cute pic! :)
#50 - Posted 7/15/08 @3:57PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

MiriyaB-It's called Rush AIR-ro-bics! The best songs to get a great work out to are ones with the synths, drums, bass and guitar. Crush the first four songs off Power Windows and I'll guarantee a 500 calorie burn!!

Sean-Got damn it dude! When the music was a million times better? You need to stay away from that dirt weed man..WTF? What we need to do with our friend Sean here is hog tie the brother. Dress up like a bunch of liliputians and bungie him down like the brother Gulliver. Then we duct tape some headphones to his funny little head with a full load of S&A's on the IPOD. After the 30 hour mark, the man will finally be FREE!!! That or Guantanamo Bay. One or the other..

I myself am on the opposite side of the spectrum. I would rather see them play Far Cry, WTA, MMB or Mal Nar.

My apologies :(
#53 - Posted 7/15/08 @4:15PM by Praetorian [contact]

I'd rather see the play "We Hold On"!

brought to you by the missing letter "m".
#55 - Posted 7/15/08 @4:17PM by crusher87 [contact]

I think there's a lot of great music on Roll The Bones, Counterparts, Test For Echo, Vapor Trails and Snakes and Arrows. 2112 through Grace Under Pressure were awesome years as well. The late 80's...well, let's just say I haven't listened to Power Windows, Hold Your Fire, or Presto in a very, very long time...
#56 - Posted 7/15/08 @4:17PM by rocinante5m [contact]

Colbert for president!!!!!!!......j/k, but actually, he'd probably serve us better than what is being offered this time around...........this should be awesome......hopefully he'll interview them, and wouldn't that be something if he got all three on stage for the interview, WOW!!!!!......if he could pull that off the impossible then he absolutely gets my VOTE!!!!!......maybe he can get other people to the table that other men couldn't accomplish ;) COLBERT in '08.......

Lance, ur freak'in awesome dude!!!!...i don't know what's funnier, your latest air video with the great dedication to all of us crazy Rush fans, or post #50......lmfao.....
#57 - Posted 7/15/08 @4:22PM by rocinante5m [contact]

All their Albums are great because they are all so different from one another, some similar, but none the same......different eras, different styles, different themes.......everyone has their favs as i do too, but to me, their whole catalog is awesome.......

Man i can't wait to see them on Colbert!!!!!!!
#58 - Posted 7/15/08 @4:26PM by hergest [contact]

RUSHercize every night for me...I crank it up and dance around and my little ones jump on the bed! (My 7 year daughter loves 'Subdivisions'... my 5 year old son likes anything with a lot of percussion.) My 19 year old is too 'COOL' to like Mom's music now! (He'll come around...he LOVED Rush when he was 15/16...once a Rush fan, always a Rush fan!)

The Roc Man! Good to see ya posting in the nick of time. We know you absolutely get it! As for Colbert, agreed put him on the ballot for 08'.

Hergest-We have a lot in common! I have three daughters ages 5, 7 and 18 and I rip it to Rush everyday for a work out. I love it!

Still loving the youtube video. Awesome stuff.

#62 - Posted 7/15/08 @4:44PM by Sean [contact]

That wouldn't be torture Lance..that would put me to sleep ;).You can't possibly come on in here with a straight face and tell me that 1977-1989 were not Rush's best years and that Snakes & Arrows blows any of those records away.

I am not saying everything from 91-07 is bad. My list of good songs from 91-07 would be:

Dreamline
Bravado
Where's My Thing?
Heresey
Neurotica
Animate
Cut To The Chase
Double Agent
Cold Fire
Leave That Thing Alone
Everyday Glory
Test For Echo (Music only, lyrics awful)
Driven
Time and Motion
Resist
Carve Away The Stone
Ceiling Unlimited
Ghost Rider
Vapor Trail
Earthshine
Freeze
Nocturne
Far Cry
MalNar
Main Monkey Biz
Good News First
Faithless (don't agree with lyrics but very well written song musically)
Bravest Face

So there...I like 28 songs of theirs since 1991...that is saying much more than a lot of fans can say who come from the old school era and don't care for more recent Rush. Notice I left off Feedback tracks because that entire thing was a joke of an effort. I would give some kudos to Seven and Seven Is if I had to include anything from it.

Now if we were to do the 74-89 era the list would be enormous.
#63 - Posted 7/15/08 @4:50PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Denny Man-That sucks your across seas during these exciting times bro. I am sure it's eating you like them freakin funny little Nazi birds you have over there. LOL Anyway, atleast you can experience the reviews, the stories and the Rotterdam pellet when it comes out. It will be perfect timing after the Rush hangover we will all have come July 24th. Rush on dude!

Not this Sean guy again...

WTF indeed.

Sorry I haven't kept up enough regular appearances to piss you off more often with "my opinion", God forbid someone has one.
#66 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:01PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

sean-your opinion always seems to be so negative however! is there anything about the band presently that you do like?

btw,how bout rush finishing #12 for highest grossing tour but only having an average ticket price of $66 ? not exactly doom and gloom news about this tour, must be some people going? i'm curious to what your "opinion" is of that? lol
#67 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:02PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i sure have said " 12th highest grossing" this leg of the tour,2008!
#68 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:03PM by Neurotica [contact]

#62 - Sean - That is a pretty darn good list - IMO I would have to add only the following:
Ghost of a Chance
Armor and Sword
Workin' them Angels
and The Larger Bowl (Eh)

I feel like SNA is a much better albumn every time I listen to it, but the 1977~1989 years were the best, and every albumn in that era was/is better than SNA.

Oh and the comments on Feedback are right on.

AND

I am an somewhat of an old time RUSH fan as well starting back in 1981 when I was 15 and just starting to listen to the rock and roll radio.

Cheers,
Neurotica (one of my all time Favs obviously LOL)

THE SHRED SAYS WITH A STRAIGHT FACE
***********************************

Sean-There are songs of Rush that I am not fond of either but I will say this. I feel S&A's is an absolute masterpiece. From the minute I heard it, I was blown away and knew that it would re-energize this band. Thats why I hope that Nick has an opportunity to produce the next Rush album and take them into the R40 years.

I appreciate you shufflin around the CD's and picking out your favs. Excellent choices. I just don't get you and your lack of enthusiasm for S&A's.

Now as I slip these pointy little shoes on, where did I put the duct tape and them f**king bungie cords???

Test for EeHH EEHH EEHH CCOOOOO!!!!........uh oh!!!!....

T4E, music only, lyrics awful, wow, i have to disagree with that one in a big way......

"Some kind of pictures on the sense o'clock news
Miles of yellow tape - silhouetted chalklines
Tough-talking hood boys in pro-team logo knock-offs
Conform to uniforms of some corporate entity
Don't change that station
It's Gangster Nation
Now crime's in syndication on TV"

"Some kind of drama live on satellite
Hidden camera coverage from the crime scene to the courtroom
Nail-biting hood boys in borrowed ties and jackets
Clutching at the straws of respectability
Can't do the time?
Don't do the crime
And wind up in the perp walk on TV"

from '96 and look at the state of TV now, once again the Professor was right on the $$$$$

i'm staying out of this one.......

i agree lance!! the only good thing about this tour ending is that it will take us closer to them going back in the studio in 2009 and pumping out their next album!! i really anticipate it being something very special!!
#72 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:08PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

Necro-You hit it right on the money! This double dose has taken us even closer to the band (if that was at any way possible) and keeps us yearning for more. We are definitely in for something special

LOL Roc! I just applied the SPF 50..clic clic woooooooffff

Man, its been a long time since us three have been on here together. Three S&A's heads for sure!
#74 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:17PM by hergest [contact]

Hey Lance (I want to call you 'Shredder' for some reason!)
You can relate with my life; that's cool that about our kids ages! 3 girls...you must be a BUSY man!
#75 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:28PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Hergest-I am one lucky dude when it comes to family. My 18 year old hits the college scene this year with a Presidential Scholarship and my 5/7 year olds are competitive dancers. Even though daddy is a nut, they support everything I do. Not huge fans of Rush though damn it!
#76 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:28PM by Sub-Xanadu Man [contact]

Lance- I agree man. I'm really hoping Nick produces their next release. He came along at at perfect time and really re-energized the band. After all, we probably wouldn't have Mal Nar without him and what kind of world would we be living in right now without Mal Nar? HUH? TELL ME!! LOL

By the way, am I the only one around here who is bat shit crazy for The Way the Wind Blows? Love that damn song. But all the songs on S&A are incredible. Can't wait to see the boys playing some of it on Saturday. :-)
#77 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:28PM by unktehila [contact]

yeah, just seeing those T4E lyrics written out like that and reading them again - ouch, i'm not a fan of those lyrics either.
sorry, just my opiniOn, they seem so "forced", corny. Neil's written far superior lyrics many times over.
that album is one of my least faves. but i really dig Driven though. powerhouse tune.

Vapor Trails mops the floor with that album.
so does S&A.

#79 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:43PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Sub Xanadu-Love TWTWB! In my opinion it's better LIVE then studio. We will rip in some S&A's on Saturday brother!

Unk Man-T4E favs are Driven(the best), Resist and Limbo. Theres a few other cornies but that's what you have a skip button for. I dig every Rush instrumental only song on their porfolio. Period. Get VT's back on the mixing block. Killer stuff. Horrible production.

OFF THE TOPIC

My buddy Shreddy Mercury, the lead singer for our air band Category Sixx, just sent me the video from the US Air Guitar Competition in Brooklyn from last week. I did a 1 minute combination of Rush Temples of Syrinx and YYZ. Came in third because the ankle is still messed up from the DC competition. I just uploaded it on my channel

I know I am being a real YouTube hog here but this is funny Rush shit!
#82 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:57PM by rocinante5m [contact]

just thinking, with this tour coming to a close and having all this Rush energy, (alot of it thanks to ED), we should really start considering a RIAB concert for the next tour.....obviously it will be very difficult for many people to make it, but if we start planning now and with the powers that Mr. Ed has ;), maybe we can get the Boys to offer up a section at a venue that would be favorable for everyone.....wishful thinking, or maybe not???....kind of like a RushCon for RIAB geeks......by then we can have all kinds of goodies ready, like Geddy soap-on-a-ropes to sell in the parking lot for beer money, Girls of RIAB calenders which has been suggested.....we can have a warm-up air-show led by the now infamous SirLance........just been thinking about it and i think it would be freakin awesome........

Next Poll: What venue would be most convenient for everyone to attend if the Great Ed threw us a party???

start the suggestions..........
#83 - Posted 7/15/08 @5:57PM by Sean [contact]

Necro, Rush will not be in the top 20 at years end..their ticket prices help the cause for sure but to say attendance has been great this entire leg would be lying. This list is the half year report and they will probably add another $2-3 million to their totals which is certainly respectable in this day and age. I want the band to do well but let's not be blind about the facts. The Van Halen tour ended in April and was off the road for a good part of 2008 due to EVH's health and they still have huge numbers. Elton John and Hannah Montana's shows are not near the same number of Rush's played.

I give the band a big hand on putting people in the seats for a second leg. I think my argument is more with Rush's set list choices and business management than anything else. Rush needed to do South America, Japan, and Eastern Canada this round. They had it worked into their schedules to do so but couldn't get an agreement down with promoters and insurance. Why? I mean much bigger and smaller artists travel to these countries all of the time? Wouldn't it have made sense to go from Puerto Rico to South America to Mexico and then take off 2 weeks and launch the U.S. leg?

Imagine the fire they would have been feeding off of down there if they were coming to the U.S. after playing to 500,000 people over 14 days or so?

I find it interesting that Colbert gets the nod to play Tom Sawyer which is a song that really a lot of people only know them for any way? Yet, have passed up playing Midnight Special, SNL (3 TIMES), and Letterman once being able to promote their latest release.

If Colbert gave Rush the entire half hour with interview and 2 or 3 songs it would have made a much bigger impact imo. Play Far Cry/MalNar/Tom Sawyer..you have about 12-13 mins of songs right there...5 mins for an interview and the rest for commercials.

Tom Sawyer only just seems like some classic rocker coming on and playing their only recognizable hit from yesteryear. I can't believe I am actually recommending them to play a S&A song.

LOL.

Dude, you're too F-ing cool.........question though, do you stretch before you go on stage?
#86 - Posted 7/15/08 @6:04PM by unktehila [contact]

#82, rocinate... hells yeah, that's a f*@king GREAT idea. it would be an experience to behold for many RIABer's to hook up, tailgate, sit together and enjoy the event, monumental.
#87 - Posted 7/15/08 @6:08PM by PetieLee [contact]

OMG Rush on Colbert Report. What an absolutely delicious combo! Woo Hoo! I'm happy they're playing anything on TV, they could play the full version of Cheech and Chongs "Earache in My Eye" and I wouldn't care...way too cool for words. That means I get to sneak in a peek at Geddy-licious once more before Sunday in Charlotte. Oh yum! Pause, rewind, replay...check my Vital Signs! Oh yeah! Woot!
#88 - Posted 7/15/08 @6:13PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Roc-Old men have to stretch brother.

The RIAB.com converging would be sweet. I cannot even imagine all the energy that could be generated at a gathering like that. Electricity, Biology, seems to me it's Chemistry!! That would rock!

Sean-Good Points for the most part on post #83

jediyyz-I just ask for your friendship on My Space. That is just too cool my friend. Couldn't cover everyone on the tribute-Most were off the top of my head!

sean- you dont think the performaance of armor and sword was powerful?
#90 - Posted 7/15/08 @6:16PM by rocinante5m [contact]

someone mark the tape!!!!....Sean actually recommended them to play something off the new album!!!!.....

Incoming!!!!...Everyone Down!!!...here comes another Pig!!!

Sean, with all due respect, as i have told you before, you make alot of good points and dig up some nuggets for us from time to time, but man, you never seemed satisfied or something......can't you just be happy that they're going to be on one of the only great shows on TV and get more pub???...instead you have to revert back to the "mishandled tour dates" and setlist things, try to formulate why the numbers appear to be something that they aren't........i don't get it.........you keep saying everyone is entitled to his or her's opinion which is fine but it just seems like 85% of your posts are just for spin, and the bad spins, the kind that make you want to puke......just fess up and say you were wrong about the tour tanking and no one going, and how you were afraid that Rush was going to look bad....believe me, if you did that you would gain alot more respect for that than your other tactics....but then again you're probably just going to fire back that you don't care if we respect you and you never said all of that, uuuhhh, why did i start,lol................
#91 - Posted 7/15/08 @6:29PM by Ricbass4003 [contact]

Do we know for sure that the show will broadcast tomorrow night? Does anyone know. Thursday I am rocking out to LIVE RUSH so I am hoping that tomorrow night will be the warm up!

PS. I am thinking they are playing tom sawyer because a lot of people know the song from guitar hero. Who cares what people might think this is big BIG BIG. After all Rush is a Band not a Limbo. LOL.
#92 - Posted 7/15/08 @6:30PM by Kelly D [contact]

Congratulations MiriyaB! I saw the guy moving in for the kill at the Manchester show- I kept trying to see who'd be the lucky recipient!

RIAB girl-of-the-month calendar, eh? Count me in! Also, as GRgreg offered on my behalf ;), I'd be happy to hold a sign! Just call on me :D

question????....doesn't the Colbert Report come on at 8:30 eastern time????....something's up with that time slot...
#94 - Posted 7/15/08 @7:23PM by soozm32 [contact]

I never thought I would see the day that Rush (our Rush)would actually be the subject of a news item on my MSN homepage!
I've never wathed "The Colbert Report", but you can bet the whole family will be tuning in tomorrow night.
My viewing guide says the live show is on at 9:30, and I'm MST, so 7:30 on the East Coast, if my info is correct.
#95 - Posted 7/15/08 @7:24PM by jediyyz [contact]

#88 Shred...signal transmitted message received!! I didn't take it personally, I could tell you were thinking on the move...love the air drumming!!

Tom Sawyer is a great choice to play on Colbert...well known but always fresh...wonder if they will have the South Park intro.?!

By the way, I nominate Red Rocks for the RIAB concert gathering...Heart and minds united in a single ....perfect...sphere!!

Roc-The Colbert Report is definitely on at 11:30pm EST and 10:30pm Central. Great appetizer before Hershey the next day. Rush fans should be thanking their lucky stars for two unbelievable years of killer memories.

jedi-I have never been to Red Rocks but that seems to me the best place for a gathering. Holy Shit man, that would be a wonderful thing to have a pow wow with all of us. There wouldn't be any question about what music we would all enjoy!!!

Good Evening RIAB - Before we get knee deep into locations for a RAIB Eveing with Rush, remember that travel is expensive now and will be getting even more so.

Let's settle on a central location, such as St. Louis or Des Moines. Although I do admit Red Rocks would be really sweet!

Just thinking of others....

Prat - That, or we all should buy a RIAB t-shirt before the show and help fund this website.
#107 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:00PM by glortiz [contact]

Heck, we should all buy a t-shirt anyway and wear it to the show! Wonder if we can get a block of tickets in one section. Hmm....
#108 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:00PM by PetieLee [contact]

Red Rocks would be a great venue for all of us to collectively gather. Great idea! We'd have to book an entire hotel, too! That'd be sweet, sweet, sweet.

#39, MiriyaB, I RUSHercize every day. I've lost a lot of weight since the start of this tour! I call it my 2112 diet and exercise plan. I've accomplished my goal by losing 33 lbs. (21+12=33 lbs!) and am continuing. Having a second go at it, and I've lost another 5 lbs...for a total of 40 lbs now! Woo Hoo! Just trying to prepare myself to be featured in the future RIAB girl calendar! LOL! Dibs on July! I claim the month of July, Geddy's birthday month! ;P

I can't wait for the Colbert Report tomorrow! Can't wait until Charlotte! Woo Hoo!
#109 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:01PM by PetieLee [contact]

LOL my math is bad...I had lost another 7 lbs, not 5! Ha ha ha!
#110 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:14PM by hergest [contact]

PetieLee! Congratulations! Any secrets/tips??? I'd love to lose 20 lbs! I don't think it's going to happen by the end of this tour but it better happen by the next one!
#111 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:26PM by GRgreg [contact]

RAIB gathering?

Well, since I'm from Grand Rapids, Mich. (hence GRgreg) may I selfishly suggest we do it in Ed's hometown. Not just because it's close enough for me, but let's do it for Ed. This guy does all the work (with some awesome input from all of you) and this would be an heartfelt "thank you" from all of us.

Just a thought.

Sh^t, I'm in such a good mood lately with all this cool Rush news, I feel like just spreading the Rush love around. Can I get an AMEN brothers?

Colbert '08
#112 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:32PM by glortiz [contact]

GRgreg, that sounds really good. That would be Cleveland and we could all to to the R&R HOF and just stand around on the steps wearing our Rush gear! Perfect!
#113 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:32PM by rocinante5m [contact]

Red Rocks was my first thought too, but as glortiz said, it would probably have to be somewhere more central......like i said before, Ed can use some of his super powers and find a way that we can get part of a section for us RIAB geeks......i say it's for those who have been members up until this point only, no coat-tail riders.....everyone gets 1 to 4 tickets.......we all donate some $$$ to Ed to get the ball rolling and for all of his hard work up until this point......and yes, this should also include Sean and Manny of course......i want to sit between the 2 of them, called it!!!!! :)....i'm sure by the next tour and AirLances tactics they will both come around to liking S&As and hopefully the new album too.........

Hey AirLance, are you sure about that time??..are they having a special show or something, cause it's usually on at 8:30 right after my other boy Jon Stewart.......

Diet tips- very simple....no fast food, no chips, no breads of any kind, no pasta, no beer, no soda, and no ice cream and cakes.....eat lots of veggies and fruits, drink water and "real juice" all day long and just eat fish with some meat and chicken mixed in and watch how fast you drop the weight.......of course add a little RUSHercise in there too.........
#114 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:36PM by main monkey business [contact]

I've been so busy the last couple days I haven't kept up. But I'll go with Lance. I called my friends the minute I put on Snakes and Arrows, and told them this was going to be one of the best sounding, best produced cd's they've put out in several years, and some of the songs would become mainstays. Is it their best??? Not to me it's not. But I think it's a damn good cd! Ten quality songs on one cd out of thirteen?? That's pretty good odds the way I see it.
#115 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:37PM by rocinante5m [contact]

lol, now that's funny glortiz.......i say we paint a big Rush Star on the roof of the building and we grab Ross Haflin, let SirLance hog tie him, only let Ross wear his panties, stuff a camera in his mouth and hang him from the flag pole and take a picture of that and post it on his site.........
#116 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:37PM by Lynn-2112 [contact]

This is cool. I saw it on Yahoo News first. Passing it on to friend and family to watch.

Thanks for the concert reviews. I have been on vacation and kept up on RIAB website on my phone.

Thanks Ed for all the updates!
#117 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:38PM by hergest [contact]

rocinante5m...I didn't read anything about my #1 food: CHOCOLATE! I don't think I could sacrifice that! The RUSHercise won't be a problem!
I LOVE the idea of a RIAB gathering! I'll be travelling from the Canadian prairies so everything seems far!
I agree; it would be a nice gesture to have it in Ed's hometown.

#119 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:41PM by GRgreg [contact]

rocinante5m.

Diet tips.

Reminds me of my favorite Johnny Carson quote.

AMEN!
#122 - Posted 7/15/08 @9:50PM by glortiz [contact]

rocinante5m - It can't be a protest of sorts, just kinda mill around ourside the R&R HOF. A couple of us older guys (me included) could carry a sack of Depends. And, at sporatic intervals, go up to the guard and ask to use the rest room so we can change our Depends. After they refuse, we should remind them (in old man speak) that "I am old and I need to change it now. If you won't let me use the rest room I will have to do it out here but since there is no toilet, I will have to stoop and once I stand up I will get a really bad hed RUSH and your patrons would not be pleased with the mess. Have mercy on your janitor!"

Remember, it is the Rock and Roll Hall of Shame.

Howdy fellow Rushies!

Great to see all the positive energy in here. A few hours ago when I saw SEAN post I figured this place would go major negative and I am happy as hell that it has not.

I just got home from an 11 day trip to the boys hometown of Toronto. I'd post a review but I am having sort of an ISSUE and am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else...?

The problem is I remember bits and pieces of specific parts of the show but there are many parts that my memory hits a roadbock. I went with a buddy and he has been experiencing the same exact thing since. Now lets be clear... I saw them last year in Seattle and Portland and have a 100% memory of those shows. This tour I saw them in Vancouver, The Gorge and Portland and also have a 100% memory of those shows.

Now I will admit that we split 2 pitchers of stronger Canadian beer and visited the salad bar before the Toronto show but I have done that many of times before and leave a show with a 100% recollection of it.I have been contemplating the thoughts of the universe non-stop the past few days and my mind keeps coming up with one thing - that we were living in the moment- I clearly remember us singing and shouting BRAVO at the top of our lungs after each and every song in Toronto. We were sitting in section 201 dead center directly in the row right in front of Howard and the sound board. Does anyone here at least remember us?

Has anyone else ever experienced this phenomenon? Have you ever been so happy, so into the show, not a care in the world of who was near you or watching you, so uninhibited that you remember just bits and pieces yet sorta remember it all sorta?

I really am feeling that God taught me a lesson 6 days ago in Toronto- to live in the moment. If I were to write a review of that night all I could say is that it was a truly magical performance. It's to bad there are only a few videos on youtube but I really believe it is because the show was so magical that very very few people were recording. Hopefully though parts of it were recorded for history because THERE WERE cameras on the movable -boons- I am not sure what they are called hovering and moving over the 100's section. I do remember that... I do remember singing every song, I do remember the people around us, I do remember looking back at Howard and him smiling at me... I do remember when all of the casual fans sat down and us screaming at the top of our lungs to go home and watch the DVD as they yelled at me to sit down (which we NEVER did)... and I do remember when the show was over and we sat there for 15 minutues waiting for it to restart... it was like.. ummm it's over? All I can say is WHAT A FUCKING MEMORY that barely is in my memory! Or maybe other life events are in my memory so deeply because I was worried about the future, the job, money, the past, etc. LIVING IN THE MOMENT! Ya... HELL YA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am gonna be comtemplating this all week but I have no doubt there is a lesson to be learned!

Anyone else experience this?
#128 - Posted 7/15/08 @10:04PM by GRgreg [contact]

No Geddy sighting yet at Yankee Stadium? Me thinks if He's not in some good seats behind home plate, He's probably in a suite with some Bluejay execs.
#129 - Posted 7/15/08 @10:05PM by eddievanlerxst2112 [contact]

Geddy and Alex have to wear wrist strong bracelets for the rest of the tour!
#130 - Posted 7/15/08 @10:13PM by PetieLee [contact]

Actually, I lost those 40 lbs since the 2nd leg of the tour kicked off. I was very heavy when I saw Rush in Sept '07 in St. Paul. I felt physically bad all the time, was tired all the time, etc.

FYI, I eat pasta and chocolate daily still! I just don't eat A LOT of it! I don't drink alcohol so that's not a problem. What I've done is change my lunch from "any" food to a salad with no dressing. I hate dressing! Watch the carbs but the advice I was given is alternate how many carbs you eat in a three day cycle. Eat very little one day, increase it a little the next, and the third day have a little more. I had plateaued for a while and could not lose weight but once I discovered this carb "secret" I began to lose weight again like clockwork. I got this advice from my chiropractor, who also lifts weights and is a personal trainer.

I use Rush in Rio and Chronicles as my DVD eye candy (Geddy!) while I exercise, sometimes I actually listen to them, sometimes I just have my iPod on. I created a special RUSHcerize mix with lots of good great temp songs like: Analog Kid, Scars, La Villa Strangiato, Marathon, etc. For my music mix, I tried to keep the pace the same...Neil is such a fabulous drummer and a gal really appreciates that on the treadmill. If I begin to fade and the drums aren't working, I listen to something extremely bass heavy like MalNar...MalNar is like the one song that saves me if I start fading out! Then, I make it a point to listen to "One Little Victory" EVERY time I am finishing my time on the treadmill. My cool down song starts with "How It Is". I love that song.

To keep me entertained, it's always fun to jump back to YYZ on the Rush in Rio DVD...such enthusiasm! That concert has a lot of energy...helps keep me on that treadmill. I can't wait for the Live S&A DVD...more eye candy!

Rush Rules!!! "You move me, you move me..."

Good luck on losing weight. There really isn't luck about it. Remember, "Anything Can Happen..."

Seriously, timintey- "Geddicorns of 2009"

Can I be June?

Also, ColdFire, I do know what you mean- I've never been drunk before a show but I do know the feeling of surreality of seeing Rush up close. Every time this leg when it came to intermission time, I couldn't believe it- it all passed by so quickly yet for all the songs I was completely in the zone and in the moment. I felt so blessed by some unknown force (luck, perhaps?) to see my favorite band within twenty feet in a stadium that could seat thousands. (And, of course, to have them notice me was even better!)

So I can relate!
#140 - Posted 7/15/08 @10:47PM by ColdFire466 [contact]

Exactly Kelly D! Thanks so much for taking your time to relate. :o) We were not drunk hehe... I am 5'11 205 of mass and it would take 20 pitchers for me to be under the influence... I really think it was simply about - living in the moment- with or without the subtances it would have been the same- umm maybe not... oy.. oy.. oy

Got the All-Star game on now... commercial...
Looking for the Gedster.

it's also hard to see the Gedster because the camera isn't panning up high enough into the stands/seats like it usually does... sooner or latet the Gedster will be on the JUMBOTRON with Tom Sawyer playing! Heeeee Yaaaaa!!!!! Living in the MOMENT! Thank you RUSH! :o)

i say it's up to ED, where ever he wants it to be and can work his super powers from the best is where it should be....wow, how cool is this going to be.....

Ed should put up a poll, narrowing it down to about 4 venues, then after the lucky venue is selected, then vote to see how many people would actually attend......for obvious reasons, a show on a saturday night would probably be best, but almost impossible for us to be that lucky....lol
#148 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:48PM by primemover_3 [contact]

Great for the band to be on Colbert Report. So happy that they are getting the exposure that they so deserve!
#149 - Posted 7/15/08 @11:50PM by unktehila [contact]

but how would we choose the Final Four Venues??? Should we have venues from each region?
a bracket? a venue tourney with seeding?

,,,or just let Ed decide.

,,,or make it Red Rocks.

,,,or my backyard.

,,or SirLance's... he has the pool.

: )
#156 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:23AM by rocinante5m [contact]

great idea unk!!!!....have a little fun with it while we're at it......only problem right now is we have NO IDEA when the tour will be and what venues, lol......maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves, but who cares, it can be fun and something else to look forward to......i guess we can boil it down to those few venues that we know for sure they will play and take it from there.........wow it's getting late and this game is never going to end, go NL so my Marlins can have homefield advantage...... ;)

wow just as i was about to submit, what a freakin play at the plate......
#157 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:27AM by GRgreg [contact]

Roc, I don't think he made the tag. Close though.

Dude was safe at 2nd base steal also.....
#158 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:30AM by unktehila [contact]

yup... both of those very close plays were the wrong calls.
both tags were off, Navarro slid under the tag and the catcher's leg to hit the plate. the preceding call at second was a total whiff of a tag on Kinsler.
but they were sooo close, you could see how the umps would call them the way they did.
... instant replay???

ColdFire said in #127 "Has anyone else ever experienced this phenomenon? Have you ever been so happy, so into the show, not a care in the world of who was near you or watching you, so uninhibited that you remember just bits and pieces yet sorta remember it all sorta?"

Yes, your phenomenon is called sorta drunk, sorta high.

Sorry but I highly diagree with your Negativity #167. To think that from ALL of these posts you tune into 1 positive post and then you turn something soooooo positive into something soooooo negative tells a lot about you. I wasn't overly high or drunk FOOL@! I was living in the moment@! Maybe you should try it yourself instead of being so negative... but maybe that is all that you know how to do... anyways... to living in the moment for those cool people such as Kelly D who can relate!

#110: You? Where would you lose it from? You look fantastic!
#170 - Posted 7/16/08 @2:13AM by GedHed [contact]

#113: That's what I do pretty much, but not the juice. For me it's no caffeine, no sugar, etc. Pretty much low carb. But lots of green veggies, chicken, fish, and yes, I do eat red meat. And drink water. Lots of water. And peppermint tea, too. I've lost around 40. Have a little ways to go to be at goal. But low carb definitely works. You just have to remember those green veggies. Can't leave them out! The reason it's worked so well for me is that it has taken my appetite away. I honestly do not miss desserts, etc. I actually have to remind myself to eat. I've actually had to set a timer on occasion. It's important to be sure to eat because otherwise the body goes into "starvation mode" and then it'll hoard every calorie. So I eat at least every 6 hours. So FWIW, it has worked for me...and I know that whatever PetieLee's doing, it's working great! Hey...didn't Alex say he's a low carber?
#171 - Posted 7/16/08 @2:21AM by GedHed [contact]

#130: I've done that RUSH-ercizing too! On the stationary bike. I have sort of a bum knee, so the bike's better for me. Good tip on changing up the carbs. I'm gonna' try that! I hate the plateaus!

why do i get this feeling that some rush fans are going to end up being disappointed though? lol
#174 - Posted 7/16/08 @8:17AM by PetieLee [contact]

For my part, Rush on the Colbert Report - I won't be disappointed at all. I get to see da Geddy on TV (and it's not in DVD form)!!! Woo Hoo! I can't wait!

For the record:

I would be glad to have a RIAB get together at anytime at my home except for the fact that I am in Maryland. My house is totally set up for partying and Rush beyond your imagination. Heated Pool, jacuzzi, hot tub, outdoor speakers, outdoor bar, waterfalls, 3 outdoor refrigerators, 3 outdoor TV jacks and the entire Rush collection. I could accomodate up to 150p.

Unfortunately I am WAY on the East Coast :(
#176 - Posted 7/16/08 @9:15AM by unktehila [contact]

SirLance... as i am also WAy up more on the East Coast (between Providence and Boston), it would work for me to have it at ChezShred. sounds like a sick setup you got there. i have one of those portable $7 plastic kiddie pools if anyone's interested in my crib.

Does anyone know whether or not Rush gets paid for an appearance like this? OR does the network "pay" them by telling them the exposure to millions of households is more than enough. Just curious.
#181 - Posted 7/16/08 @9:34AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

my guess is that they will get paid!

Look towards the late innings of the game and I swear to God that that's him in the second row behind home plate. During the early innings you couldn't see him but as people were leaving because of the hour, he either moved down or it was just easier to see him.

At first I thought it was a younger girl in a baseball cap but after a couple glances it appeared to be Geddy.

It was super hard to tell because the seats behind Home plate are so far away at Yankee stadium but I still think it was him!!!
#187 - Posted 7/16/08 @10:37AM by unktehila [contact]

#186, i think it was him as well, but like you said, the stupid layout of Yankee Stadium in having the home plate seats in another time zone makes it hard to tell.
#188 - Posted 7/16/08 @10:58AM by Praetorian [contact]

I'll double-check. i only recorded it because I had an eye test with these drops that make your pupils as big as black basketballs! Then, I had ti ride myself home on my motorcycle
with cataract glasses on under my helmet.....still couldn't see!
I don't know if this helps but................My Dad lives
in central PA. Has 4 acres, full bar, round the house Patio,
gun range in the back, and 9 miles to the nearest gas/store.
If you guys (and ladies of course) , maybe a central U.S. location wold be fair. I come from L.A.,and will still make . Just a thought...........................
Ideas?

I can relate to ColdFire, and I was also at the Toronto show (I live in the Toronto area), I too was drunk/high but thats not new to me either. This was my 10th show and I still have various songs and moments replaying in my head.
I won't do a detailed review, just want to say that this show rocked harder than the ACC shows last Sept.
But I have to let you guys know that we were in the 16th row, center section (102). This is the closest I have seen Rush ever and I was blown away yet again by our boys, anyway, There was one more row behind us and then the angled seats started in section 202, and sitting right there in the first row of actual seats, just behind us, was Neil Pearts' Mom and Dad!
I kid you not, Neils parents were sitting right behind us, and at first I thought its enough that I saw them, but I just had to say Hi (they were right behind me after all).
So me and my brother said Hi and shook their hands and I specifically said to his dad: "I'd like to shake the hand of the man that made that man" They were incredibly nice people and even allowed us to have our picture taken with them. After the picture (this is after the show), I was walking down the aisle just beaming from everything and I saw a lady standing in the aisle who was watching us getting our pictures taken, and I said, all excited, "Thats Neils parents!" And she says to me, "I know, I'm his sister!"
So ever witty fellow that i am, I said so I guess you know them also! To which she got a real big chuckle.

Sorry to ramble, but had to share that with you guys, this was a magical show for me, I took 3 first timers and my older brother, a hardcore fan like us, with me and they were also blown away. Also the girl in the immediate row on the floors behind us held up a sign and got sticks! That picture of her holding the sign is posted on the rush website for the Toronto show, and my brother and one of the first timers are in that picture as well! (the picture just missed me, darn)(But I have a picture of me and my buddy with Neils parents, so i can't complain)

All in all a very special night.

Just wanted to share that with you guys, because this site has had me pumped to see them since I bought the tickets way back in February.

Rush on my friends.

#193 WOW! That is so cool! Will you post the picture?
#198 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:09PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i just hope they dont have them play like a quarter of the song and then cut to commercial or something! lol
#199 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:10PM by Kelly D [contact]

Awesome story, #193!!! You were quite witty/clever for being as "altered" as you were!
#200 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:17PM by Bx3 [contact]

Precisely what I was thinkin, if they fade out to a commercial like 3 1/2 min into the song, I will boycot.
#201 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:23PM by Kelly D [contact]

In regards to actual salad bars, for those in want of healthy eating tips (I don't like the word "diet" :P), I like salsa on my salad. It makes everything taste better, and it's very low in calories without the aid of chemicals and additives.
#202 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:28PM by geddybass [contact]

I am fascinated by the logistical aspect of this performance.
Do they set up the entire drumset or just the bare minimum of what Neil needs for TS? How many amps does Alex have with him?
I would actually love to see them do it all old school. Geddy with an SVT, Alex with a combo and Neil with a basic drumset.
#203 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:36PM by Bx3 [contact]

I was wondering that too, before they actually confirmed that it was to be Tom Sawyer, I thought Mal Nar would be a good way to go based on what was needed to do the job. Especially on Neil's end. I WILL be mad if they use some dinky little kit though, especially since the song, properly played, requires a large kit.
#204 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:38PM by rocinante5m [contact]

i was actually thinking the same things geddybass......going to be very interesting to see what gear they bust out with........i am almost certain that they will have the Lil Rush intro, i mean come on, i think they have to, being that they are on Comedy Central, that will be freakin unreal!!!!.....i think this is a brilliant move for the Boys, they are going to pick up alot of "used to be fans" of Rush that don't realize that they still Rock and that they have alot of fun doing what they love...........can't wait!!!
#205 - Posted 7/16/08 @12:57PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

is it going to be a little peiece of tom sawyer and then a cut to commercial or are they actually going to devote over 5 mins of their 30 min show to the band? will be interesting to see!
#206 - Posted 7/16/08 @1:13PM by Dig It Al Man [contact]

Thanks for the responses, awesome memories indeed, I will definitely post the pictures. One of my friends took the pictures on his cell phone, as soon as I get them off his phone and onto my PC I will post them for sure.

One of the pictures has a colleague of mine from work who actually got me "back into" Rush again around the time of R30, he is such a Rush nut, he's the one who told me that Neils parents were behind us, otherwise I would definitely not have known... it was a special day for him also as he went to RushCon, then the Rush boat cruise, and then that night was his 50th show, while it was my tenth. And my 10 were all on different tours (other than the first leg of this tour, since they are officially touring the live album on this leg, I'll call it a separate tour)started way back in 1980 on the Permanent Waves tour, so to have all this happen on my tenth tour was just awesome.

I will post the pics later tonight when I get them.
#207 - Posted 7/16/08 @1:26PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Damn-Great points gentlemen. The length of the gig, commercial time, equipment etc. I wonder if this will be like a "Rush Unplugged" version? In that case they would have to do a little Mal Nar.

For the effect, think Geddy will bring in one of those George Forman rotisseries and set it in back of him? Maybe just a bucket of KFC. Hmmm......

Dig It Al Man-Right on brother-Gotta post them pics and thanks!

If for some reason we can't have a full blown out RIAB party, we can definitely have an East Coast blow out-2009 it is and thats a go!
#208 - Posted 7/16/08 @1:26PM by Praetorian [contact]

#196
that's why I offered it up.
We got plenty of ammo and lots to shoot from. Muskets to colts to Sitting Bulls own rifle! We don't hunt; just target shooting off the porch!!! 10 points for a moving squirrel
#209 - Posted 7/16/08 @1:30PM by Toronto Writer [contact]

Since Geddy uses the "house" sound in concert, I wonder if he'll have an actual amp tonight instead of the rotisseries. Guess we'll find out all the above soon enough. Can't wait.

#193 Dig It Al Man (that is so good!)

TOO COOL! I'm so grateful for Neil's parents, for so many reasons! They were so supportive of him in the beginning. They were there when he lost Jackie & Selena. I hope they're around for a long time.

Thanks for being so friendly!!

Peeved that I'll be loading tape in the middle of a newscast when it's on the first time. I don't normally work this shift either *sob* Maybe the rest of my crew will cooperate and we'll tune in if we aren't backed up.
#213 - Posted 7/16/08 @1:42PM by Dig It Al Man [contact]

Neil's just gotta have his whole set man that would be cool, and Geddy and Al gotta have some amps, it'll be cool to see Geddy with some amps again... or am i getting ahead of myself here?
I will be so disappointed if they start the song and then fade away, and don't have them on to talk.
Either way this is an historic moment, National American TV!

The Toronto Globe And Mails review opened with these words:

Can it be? Is Rush actually becoming hip?

This seems to be the year of Rush's renaissance, it's a great time to be a RUSH Fan.
#214 - Posted 7/16/08 @1:45PM by runmarc [contact]

Hey Praetorian...I grew up in Central Pa., listening to Rush, riding motorcycles, going to sprint car races, and shooting shotguns at various things. Turns out, that was good practice for adult life too..

#210 mommy_of_zuzu thanks, I will definitely post the pic, but I am at work right now, and can't post until later tonight from home. but I will share with my fellow RIAB'ers.

How psyched do you think the band is right now? I'm hoping they participate in a sketch, then bust out a badass version of TS. Hell, they could play Rivendell for all I care.

Happy times, indeed.

Body: Tune in tonight! Comedy Central's 'The Colbert Report' will showcase a rare TV performance by Rush. The band will be performing their song 'Tom Sawyer'. Alot of excitement on here about tonight's "gig". It does seem a little unreal. Rush in a guest spot on a t.v. show? Crazy. Not sure what to expect. I will keep my expectations to a minimum and just enjoy this rare (and perhaps transitional?) moment, however brief (or abbreviated) it may be.

Isn't The Colbert Report on at 8:30? The replay airs at 11:30. Do you think they need time to edit it in?
#222 - Posted 7/16/08 @3:29PM by Praetorian [contact]

Here in L.A. it's on 5:30, 8:30, and 10:30. Not sure if the 5:30 is the right one,but I'll give it a shot.
#223 - Posted 7/16/08 @3:55PM by dinoman [contact]

It is likely that the 5:30 is a repeat of the previous night's show, with 8:30 being the new episode and 10:30 being a repeat of the latest episode.

if I am not mistaken.

which I very well could be.
#224 - Posted 7/16/08 @3:57PM by dinoman [contact]

By the way, those are west coast times.

Today's episode should be 11:30 eastern time (as has been mentioned numerous times already).

regarding Rush on Colbert,
had I not checked in here at RIAB, first time in many days, I would have missed it. Thanks again and again Ed... the service you provide here is MAGNIFICENT!

regarding Sean,
hey it takes all kinds, and I for one still appreciate his contributions here. I imagine Sean as some sort of "savant." His immense knowledge of and attention to Rush expresses in a downward way, like a brilliant autistic person I know. But whatever. Sure hope he shows up at Lance's big party!

regarding digitalman,
for so many years, I though Rush had become part of the past, and now they appear to be emerging into "popular" culture. Seeing this gives me Hope for other aspects of harsh reality. It truly IS a great time to be a Rush fan!!!

...8 more days 'til INDIANAPOLIS!
#226 - Posted 7/16/08 @4:47PM by Dig It Al Man [contact]

R30 brought me back, I had basically given up on Rush, other than my memories and albums (yes vinyl Albums), and cd's.
R30 showed me that they are still kicking, and then S&A came out and totally blew me away, it is their renaissance now even more so than Vapor Trails was because they seem to have a new found energy and an apparently new found appeal to the mainstream, who simply cannot ignore them any longer.

I haven't been this excited about all things Rush since I was a teenager in the late 70's - early 80's

Looking forward to at LEAST one more album and tour!

perfect sphere- I'm only 14, and an avid Rush fan. If this IS a great time to be a Rush fan (which it is), it seems to me my timing could not have been better!

Seeing as it seems everyone here's weighed in their opinion (Full Disclosure- I didn't check the comments so thoroughly), so I'm just assuming we're nearly ready here.

Thanks colbert you ^%$# for making a mockery of the greatest band while theyre playing. frigging idiot, jumping in front of them, then cutting them off 20 seconds later, then making his scene like theyve been playing for so long.. moron.. rush is so much greater than you

I haven't read all 502 posts from yesterday's thread

Maximum number of posts exceeded... please post in another thread. (this has not happened in a long time)

It was witty and it looks like they all had a good time.

We have witnessed history!!!

RUSH ROCKS!!

I could go on and on and on... but we all know what I'm going to say.

:) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I can't stop smiling

Wow, of course people have to find fault- get over it! The Colbert Report basically dedicated an entire episode to them!
