Rush 2008 tour date questions and answers
Posted at 2:59PM | comments (245)

Rush Snakes & Arrows TourUPDATE - 1/18@3:56PM: The Quebec City 400th anniversary concert will not occur in July as I'd originally thought. It will take place on the Plains of Abraham on August 22nd. Celine Dion (yippee) will headline. Currently from what I know Rush is still penciled in to appear along with Bryan Adams, Sum 41, The Tragically Hip, Nickelback and others. So if the South American dates occur in early August it looks like Rush would then head back to Canada to close out the tour in style in front of their largest crowd ever. Cool.

I've been inundated with questions about the tour over the last several hours. So I decided rather than try to respond to everyone individually, I'd put up one post where I'll attempt to address everyone's questions/concerns as best I can with the information I know. First I'll re-post the tour date list just to keep it above the fold and have it available for reference.

1) How does the fan pre-sale work? How do I sign up?

First off, there is NO OFFICIAL RUSH FAN CLUB. :) Rush thankfully does not charge outrageous fees to their fans for the privilege of access to their pre-sale. However, you do need to sign up for the pre-sale through Music Today. That's step one. You simply go to the Music Today Rush pre-sale site and enter in your email address. Then you'll be on their email list and have access to their systems. The first round of pre-sales will occur next week from Tuesday, January 22nd to Thursday, January 24th for the following shows: New Orleans, Phoenix, Reno, Las Vegas, Red Rocks and Detroit. Fan pre-sales for subsequent shows will happen the Tuesday-Thursday the week prior to the regular tickets going on sale. I'll have a lot more details regarding the fan pre-sale in the coming days, don't worry. In the meantime, you can check out some of the posts from last March to see how the pre-sale worked on the last leg. Just go to the March 2007 site archive and check out all the posts towards the end of the month (the official tour date announcement in 2007 was on March 26th).

In addition to the fan pre-sales, there are various AMEX, Ticketmaster and radio-station-sponsored pre-sales that will take place on a per-show basis. Check Ticketmaster, AMEX or your local radio station for details on these. I'll also try to provide details or at least a heads up as these pre-sales start.

2) What happened to South America?

From what I'm hearing South America is still on. Be comforted by the fact that the band doesn't even mention it at all in their press release. No news is good news. Right now they are still attempting to work out the logistics. The original plan was to move from Puerto Rico to South America and then Mexico. This plan got completely turned on its head in recent weeks. I'm not clear on the specific issues involved in why the South American dates had to be shifted out to August, but that's what happened. So right now they are trying to confirm dates/venues and if/when they do, I'm sure they'll let us know.

3) What happened to the Mexico dates?

Those are still on too, but will now be part of the South American route. The plan is to go through Mexico on down to South America.

4) What happened to Atlantic Canada?

I know that no answer will satiate you Atlantic Canadians - and I don't blame you. But I'll give it a shot anyways. Once again, the abrupt change in plans mentioned above in 2) caused the band to completely rethink their routing. The short answer is that Atlantic Canada just did not work out with the modified schedule. Once it was apparent the South American dates would not happen in May, they had to scramble to shore up the Eastern US venues before other artists/events did. The Maine show was knocked out, then Rhode Island and from that point it just came down to logistics and cost of travel in between shows; Atlantic Canada just didn't fit in unfortunately. They instead found that a Montreal show would fit in, and went for that instead.

5) What about the Quebec City 400th anniversary show?

UPDATE - 1/18@3:56PM: The Quebec City 400th anniversary concert will not occur in July as I'd originally thought. Cool.

I'd first mentioned a while back that the band may play at the 400th anniversary of Quebec City celebration this July. They are still trying to finalize plans for this. This is partly the reason you don't see a Quebec City gig on the tour itinerary. This may still happen if they can fit it in.

6) What about the potential second show in Puerto Rico?

The band had originally left the option open for a second show after the first in Puerto Rico assuming it sold well. That second show morphed into the late addition of the Ft. Lauderdale show. However, they have left open the possibility of adding the second show on the day before - April 10th.

7) What about the potential second show at the Nokia Theatre in LA?

They still plan on adding this. That's why there are 4 open days after the May 6th show there.

8) When will you update your tour section with the 2008 dates?

Soon. :)

Hopefully this will allay some of the concerns many of you had. More to come.

Ed...Thanks for the dedication and hard work, it is appreciated. My initial reaction to Atlantic Canada being screwed AGAIN was anger, I'll get over it. I have the past 10 tours.

Ed, thanks SO much about the "fan club" info. I didnt think there would be a club to join like last time, but just wanted to make sure. I forwarded the info over to TRF, accrediting your blog as always. Thanks again! Rush on!!!

Thanks so much Ed for culling this all together. What an incredible day, such energy and vivacity!!!

Am curious to hear your thoughts/rumors re: the live CD. Interesting that Musictoday has it listed on their site as a Double CD...audio first, followed by the DVD in the autumn perhaps??
#11 - Posted 1/18/08 @3:23PM by scottc [contact]

Ed is a beast! I've said it before, I always check RIAB first, rarely Rush.com. Thanks ED!!!

AZ Central has already posted the Phoenix show announcement.

Link here: link

The writer calls them geek-rock favs.

I'm offended, though others might not be. I've never identified myself as a geek (I'm not really smart enough to be one), nor have I ever worn a mullet or lived in my parents basement. What other names do these music writers (failed jealeous musicians) call us by?

Anyway, I'll probably shoot a quick e-mail to the writer - just because I feel like it. Besides, I think he doesn't really know the Rush's world.

Here's his e-mail in-case anyone else want's to drop him a quick note: randy.cordova@arizonarepublic.com

I want to know what happened with Charlottesville. I see Nissan is now the Mid-Atlantic date. I was hoping for an indoor show this time.

Thank you Ed for all your hard work and dedication! I love this site; it's so nice to know there are other Rush fans out there! (I've been known as the 'Rush Geek' since High School....many moons ago!)I'm sad that they won't be playing in my hometown but I've convinced my accomodating husband to go on a road trip! Thanks again and I hope everyone has a great time at the concerts (as I know you will!)

Ed thanks as usual for the hard work and dedication, so us all rush fans can have the accuarte information on hand.

Re: AC on July 4th - -

Don't count on the venue change to the Etess Arena at the Taj. I believe that the Taj Mahal is sponsoring the show and it will be held at Boardwalk Hall. I can't see Rush playing a 5000 seat arena when they could easily triple that a hop, skip and a jump down the B-line. Look for $125+ pricing for the best seats.

I'll be there regardless. Rush is finally playing my backyard :-)
#23 - Posted 1/18/08 @3:52PM by JohnnyTRacer [contact]

ED. You are the man! Unbelievable amount of information to keep straight and you did and are doing a wonderful job!! We all need to give ED a huge thank you by purchasing one of his bumper stickers (unless that cuts into your RUSH fund :-)). I am truly blessed to be able to see RUSH again in Portland, OR. I have no money, but I do have a credit card with room on it! Can't wait to see the best band and fans in the land........RUSH ON!
#24 - Posted 1/18/08 @3:53PM by desertrushgirl

Thank you, again, for all you do Ed. What would we do without you? I don't know how you do it, but you do somehow, and it's great for us.

Thank you; thank you!!!

Dee, Phx.
#25 - Posted 1/18/08 @3:53PM by ChemistryMan [contact]

So how long before we start talking about the modified setlist?...
I heard they were rehearsing Chemistry for the first leg... obviously I'm pulling for it in this leg's setlist...
The password for the presales comes in an e-mail from musictoday if we're signed up, right? I forget just how it all worked...
I'm hoping they do add a 2nd Nokia L.A. show, as that venue only holds 7100 & there are alot of RUSH GEEKS here. The 1st one is gonna sell out muy rapido. I couldn't find a TM or LiveNation link for that show... I know it was one of the last confirmed shows, so they'll probably get the links/posts for that show(s) up later...
#26 - Posted 1/18/08 @3:59PM by primemover_3 [contact]

You're welcome, Miki...

Hopefully I will be rocking out alongside you all in South America!!

See ya in August!

Anybody else worried about getting Hannah Montana'd on the ticket sales???

Firstly thanks Ed for everything today, with all thats been going in Rush World your clear version has been spot on and most welcome in Liverpool UK.

I'd like to wish all you guys who can get to a show in 2008..... Enjoy !.........your so lucky!!
The boys are not coming back to the UK this year which is a big shame. I was at Manchester 16/10/07 and need more, more, more........what a show.....!!!

Lets just hope the DVD from Rotterdam is released soon cause thats what Europe needs...

Regarding the Quebec City 400th Anniversary show:

MY DREAM GIG!!!

OMG! After all these years I get to see Rush AND Celine Dion on the same ticket??? Man, I can just see Ged and the boys getting the crowd all fired up for Celine!

Seriously though... Celine's got talent and she has sold a billion records. But if I could pick the chick, I'd take Amanda Marshall everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

Dude, why am I on a Rush blog discussing my preference for Amanda Marshall over Celine Dion? What is wrong with me? Well, I blame Ed... he brought it up.
#34 - Posted 1/18/08 @4:17PM by redrum78 [contact]

Thanks Ed for the info all week long. I love this website.
Geek Rock? WTF? That's a new one. Tonight I'll have to break the news to my husband that he married a geek. Well, right after he gets his mullet trimmed. =)

MILWAUKEE! Headlining the first friday of summerfest is a big deal. No doubt the Hog will be getting plenty of calls from Nettie and I, EH?
#38 - Posted 1/18/08 @4:32PM by slavetothehormone

Yes, Manch-Vegas!

What exactly is the presale discount?
#39 - Posted 1/18/08 @4:35PM by ChemistryMan [contact]

no discount; just early ticket sales ... not always the best selection though ...
#40 - Posted 1/18/08 @4:52PM by Washington State Loves Rush [contact]

ChemistryMan is exactly right. I cant begin to express my anger with MusicToday & the way they handled seat availability on the presale of leg 1. It real is just a crap shoot.
#41 - Posted 1/18/08 @4:54PM by scottc [contact]

i agree WSLR, the musictoday is a pain the ass. Their site gets swamped. This time around I think I may just skip it
#42 - Posted 1/18/08 @5:01PM by Fiat [contact]

Rush should be headlining. Fuck Quebec and Celine Dion. They shouldn't lower themselves as they have already apologized for her existence. I for one will be very disappointed if they play this gig. Again, I'm in for the long haul with these guys even though I think Neil is caving but this will not sit well when I reflect as the years pass.
#43 - Posted 1/18/08 @5:02PM by ChemistryMan [contact]

Crap Shoot it is ... I remember trying for about 1.5 hours straight starting right at 10am on until about 11:30 on the first day of the presale for the Portland show in leg 1 ... justifying a party trip to rendezvous in the Great NW w/ old college buddies and drink fine local brew.
I was getting pretty horrible seats for a fanclub presale IMO, and then all of a sudden like 2 hours later around 1:30 that day, I repeatedly was offered much better seats on the inner aisle like around 20th row for cost. I settled for Row R thinking I'd get no better through the presale ... At Clark County 19th row was quite nice... I got somewhat similar seats for an Irvine show (a tradition every tour since I can remember) BUT only after holding tight and not taking the first seats offered in the presale... actually not the first 10-20 offered seats ... the problem is not knowing when to pull the trigger like you do w/ TM, which generally is ASAP!
#44 - Posted 1/18/08 @5:21PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Damn Ed, your a freakin magician. Have to start callin you Ed Copperfield from now on. Instead of peeing my pants, I got so excited that I just did an air rendition to Digital Man and uploaded on my YouTube profile. It was totally on a whim so it's not perfect!! (Plus the fact that my webcam sucks) It's in celebration to the 2008 tour and getting the chance to hear the boys rip it up two years in a row. It's not as good as my Air Natural Science or Air YYZ video but here is the link:

link

Also, everyone should consider placing a little donation to this site. This dude is getting bum rushed! Not many people can pull rabbits out of their hats like the Ed "Presto" Man. $3.00 will get you a cool sticker. I am donating a crispy $50 before the weekend is up. Ed, you are loved, appreciated and your hard work will never go unnoticed by the greatest fans on the face of the earth.
Thank you for the millionth time.
#45 - Posted 1/18/08 @5:30PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

lance-way to go dude!!you're the best!!
#46 - Posted 1/18/08 @5:36PM by primemover_3 [contact]

lol. Yeah!! That was classic, Lance

Good idea about the donations. This guy has worked his tail off, and deserves a little something... Thanks, Ed.
#47 - Posted 1/18/08 @5:44PM by A Symptom Of Life [contact]

I know have the makings of a dream road trip.

Vancouver BC May 29
George, WA May 31
Portland Jun 1

All I have to do is give my wife a huge freakin' ring!
#48 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:07PM by drummerdad2112 [contact]

I say we all pitch in and buy the rabbit's from Rush's presto tour and set them up at Ed's house as a surprise when he get's back from his multi-show roadtrip.

Anyone,

Anyone?

Thanks Ed, incredible job as always.

I remember back when..... I'd have to hear it from 3 separate sources before i would believe a new album or tour was on the way.

After hearing from the first person.....your skeptical
After the second, you hope.
Then the third (and remember that none of the three could know each other...Right?) You would not turn off the radio until you heard the announcement.

Its just Glorious.

Don't wish it to come too soon as it will be over in a blink of a eye. Half the Fun is knowing you have a ticket, then comes the day of the show, there's that self imposed stress of getting there, and you then only feel relaxed when you cross through the threshold of your venue knowing what's to come.
#49 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:16PM by drummerdad2112 [contact]

if anyone cares, i finally figured out how to do the Hand over Hand drum-roll, just working on the speed now. awesome that after playing drums for 30+ years now, and seeing it on Multiple tours that i know "the math" as neil puts it on Anatomy
#50 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:32PM by Nettie [contact]

Starman I'll definitely be at the Milwaukee show. Summerfest! This is so cool!
#51 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:41PM by Mission2112 [contact]

Ed said "First off, there is NO OFFICIAL RUSH FAN CLUB. :) Rush thankfully does not charge outrageous fees to their fans for the privilege of access to their pre-sale."

I did want to just comment that depending on how decent the pre-sale is seatwise it can be very worthwhile for the fans and I think any band should consider it. A few years ago I was a part of a membership-based fanclub which I believe was $15 per year. All fan-club tickets were limited to pairs, will-call only, but GUARANTEED seats in the first 10 rows when you picked them up. I think most fans would consider that well worth the price. I believe the kicker was that you could only do that for 1 show per credit card, so folks who went to more than one show were out of luck.
#52 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:46PM by Lerxster [contact]

Celine Dion? Now that's entertainment!

Muchos thankios size grande Ed!!! Eeexcellent!

RRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CUBEFRIP - Robert and cubism, fused to create a new medium
#53 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:49PM by ChemistryMan [contact]

I remember U2 charging (I think) $50 for such a club and them having a huge fiasco on the first day of presales and then needing to add another show to do the presale again and make good on all that they had promised. I think a presale has its merits; it's just that the tix that are made available through musictoday over the last two tours have varied in quality over the course of the presale period... which is strange, especially when the presale is affiliated with a band that is so, shall I say, precisely "calculated".
#54 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:52PM by LanceTheShred [contact]

Thanks Necro and Prime Man! Damn this is exciting.....

DesertRushgirl-Cordova is a dip shit and I would assume has chapped lips as well. No exposure=stupidity. Thanks for his e-mail.

DD2112-You gotta way with words mister. The hand over hand DR is quite a feat by the way. It's much easier when you only play air by the way. \M/ LOL.
#55 - Posted 1/18/08 @6:53PM by Mission2112 [contact]

Yeah... I had that U2 membership and recall the incident. Unfortunately for me they had no dates anywhere near here so I couldn't use their pre-sale anyways. At least their membership provides lots of shwag for the $$, some of it useful and some of it not. The pre-sales are almost gravy, other than the fact that most people buy it for the pre-sale.
#56 - Posted 1/18/08 @7:01PM by desertrushgirl

# 27, never had a mullet, but I have boobies. LOL!!

Ed. I want to mention again how great you are. I'm all signed up with musictoday, and ready to go for Tuesday AM. Couldn't have done it without you.

#58 - Posted 1/18/08 @7:24PM by wildcatrush

Thanks Ed for all that you are doing here.

Any info if Memphis is still possible? Atlanta & Cincy here I come.
As far as presale tickets. I bought them on the VT tour and was about 25 rows back here in Nashville. I went to a ticketmonster outlet and was second in line and got 3rd row center the morning tickets went on sale! Nearly passed out!
I will still try presale but probably try to do better on public sale day.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH, THANK YOU, GOODNIGHT!
#59 - Posted 1/18/08 @7:26PM by sully_digs [contact]

Presale is limited to what the promoter wants to release early. Ticketmaster now offers ticketexchange and auctions on tickets. Ticketexchange is just another convienent way to scalp someone who wants to go see a show of their favorite band. You dont have to buy presale tix or first day tix to get the best seats. A lot of times they are held back and realease later.

Anyway....I talked to my contact in Indianapolis and I will have the same seats this summer as I did last summer!
Damn, I want to go tomorrow night!!!

I still cant believe that RUSH has neglected the southeast 2 years in a row. What about Birmingham? This is a city that could pull from Nashville, Atlanta, Jackson, and has supported tours by the Stone several times at Legion field.
The ampitheater there offers no lawn seats, but that is not always a bad thing.

To the one who suggested a donation - I'm in for sure. Whoever Ed is, he is one hell of a dedicated RUSH fan and I salute him for his work.
#60 - Posted 1/18/08 @7:42PM by ChemistryMan [contact]

Oh yeah come to think of it my Irvine seats for S&A leg 1 were purchased through TM's new auction utility... didn't get 'em thru pre-sale... they were about 50%-60% over face value for Orchestra seating first 15 rows, which I thought was good deal considering most ticket brokers and eBay auctions had those seats for well over twice face value.

I don't know about you all but I am expecting to see prices for Atlantic City and Mandalay Bay like we have never seen before. Rush will clear over 1.5 million for each of those shows alone.

Does anyone know where the forth coming live CD is from?

I suppose it is from Rotterdam where the DVD was taped, much like the Rush In Rio CDs and DVDs.

Looking forward to that release.

Ed you have been great to enlighten us so...
It is much appreciated!
I look forward to your take on the presales/sales/tour etc. here in the immediate future...
We are so lucky RUSH have stayed with it despite life challenges for the bandmates and the rigors of touring, and continued to bless us with awesome LIVE tunes for so damn long too!!!
My wife often asks why I want to go to another RUSH show, since I usually attend about 2-4 per tour, and she's been to shows and all, but she just didn't grow up on it through the rough HIGH school years, ya' know...
I think a "I'd rather be at a RUSH show" bumper sticker is quite appropriate... who cares about the $ ?... you can't take it to your grave

Primemover,
I checked out that link for the tickets. Thanks for posting that. I'm a bit of a novice at this, but I, too, find that surprising.
Well, they are not great tickets and are outrageously priced, so I guess we can hold out hope for good tickets at somewhat more reasonable prices.
It's going to be a great summer!!!!
#69 - Posted 1/18/08 @9:35PM by towhee [contact]

Has anyone been to the Journal Pavilion in Albuquerque?
I am considering traveling there and spending some time in Sante Fe. Looks beautiful. I want to make sure it is a good concert venue, though.

Also going to see them in my home town, Boise. Wow, what a surprise that was!!!

Primemover,
#66,

That is the biggest load of crap. we are the fans and we don't even get a shot at good tickets. I was very lucky once, but i only attribute it to being in the right place at the right time and nothing more. If it ends up being a mole within the Rush organization that allows that kind of crap to go on, then maybe the Guys are too far removed from what really goes on.

Pre sale is one thing, and giving people a legitimate shot is another, but when you see PIT seats, 6th row center when the dates were announced only this morning is entirely bogus.

Free market is one thing, but this is B.S.
#74 - Posted 1/18/08 @11:12PM by PauleyB [contact]

Hey Guys,

Those sites don't have tickets yet. They are hoping for suckers that will order from them. You notice that when you click the 'info' link that it just says comparable or better? Thats because they have a few people buying for them in the presale and will then sell them to you if you order. This gives them a chance to have some tix pre-sold and they can make a profit with little or no exposure.
#75 - Posted 1/18/08 @11:15PM by PauleyB [contact]

Now that I think about it. I have tickets for sale too. They are all within the first 20 rows for all dates. $500 per seat. I am pretty sure I could pull that off if I had to. Ha...
#76 - Posted 1/18/08 @11:15PM by sully_digs [contact]

Well I have decided that there are 4 shows that I will be attending this summer. That is a first for me!

Indianapolis
Cincinnati
St Louis
And the Atlanta show in late July.
#77 - Posted 1/18/08 @11:22PM by scottw [contact]

I'm driving from Louisville to Indy, on to Milwaukee, down to St. Louis, then home for a day and off to Cincy. Four shows in six days. Beats the three in eight days I did last year.
#78 - Posted 1/18/08 @11:24PM by sully_digs [contact]

I am telling everyone here to avoid TICKETSNOW.COM!!

Last summer my neighbor who thought he could not wait for the Van Halen tix went and purchased 8 tix from them believing the tickets were on the floor in either the 12 or 15th row, or comparable as has been stated.

And at a price way above face value.

When his tix arrived there was a letter stating that he had been upgraded! Yeah! But when checking the seating chart the tix were actually in the 14th row of the first section off the floor on the side of the damn stage.

I purchased mine when they went on sale through ticketmaster the first day and received what I was told I was buying. FLOOR seats at $149.50, 7 rows back on Eddies side of the stage! After that my neighbor called and cancelled his order through his credit card company and FedEx the tix back to the SCALPER that sent them to him.
When the credit card payment did not go through, TICKETSNOW called him up and threatened to sue him. He informed them that the tix were on the way back to them.
They were E-tickets with someones name on them who had in fact just purchased them the day tickets really went on sale.

Avoid these damn scalping rings. There should be a law against them.

then you should go with us to Atlanta at the end of the summer....

Well, I finally got my e-mail. Back from the dark side, if you will. Thanks to Ed, I'm signed up for the Livenation presale and the one from the Rush.com thing. Hopefully, the boys will play two shows in LA - I can't see how they could not, as this yuppie scum Nokia place only holds seven thousand.

Wishing we were back in the 70's.........

If they are seriously thinking about filming another show, they should do the Quebec anniversary concert. Largest audience ever, Bastille Day; sounds like reason enough to film. But seriously...WHO INVITED NICKELBACK?!
Rock on Rush! Hope to see you at The Joe!
#83 - Posted 1/18/08 @11:43PM by Guatiao [contact]

Well, I guess the course of history WILL be changed forever more for us Puertorrican fans, as they will FINALLY play here, and we even get the opening gig of the second leg of the tour!! And POSSIBLY two shows according to Ed!!!

I was *this close* to making arrangements to go to US and see them at last, but they will make many thousands of fans way happy in a night (nights??) to remember!

Has anyone here had any success with the pre-sale? I've never tried it and have been some what fortunate buying the day they went on sale with Ticketmaster. I've heard horror stories from others tho' who have bought at the pre-sale only to go back later to Ticketmaster the day of the regular sale and find they were offering better seats! Is pre-sale even worth it???
#85 - Posted 1/19/08 @12:02AM by wmr [contact]

ATL weather generally sucks in late July. HIGH humidity and ridiculous temps. However, where else in the east is it any different in the summer? Is it 68 degrees with low humidity in Cinci....or........Pittsburgh (Go Steelers my whole family is from western PA) I would not let weather get in my way of seeing RUSH!!!!!!

Speaking of big concerts:

The classic TRIUMPH lineup - Rik Emmett, Mike Levine and Gil Moore - could not have selected a better way to reunite after a two-decade absence, with what will undoubtedly be a show-stopping appearance at the 2008 Sweden Rock Festival.

Held over a four-day span (June 4-7), the Sweden Rock Festival has been an annual event since 1992, and over the past few years, has been held in Norje, outside of Sölvesborg. This year's festival is featuring one of its strongest lineups ever - in addition to TRIUMPH's highly anticipated appearance, such renowned groups as JUDAS PRIEST, DEF LEPPARD, BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, and WHITESNAKE (among others) have also been confirmed.

"We have had TRIUMPH in mind for many years and hoped that they would play together again one day," said Ingolf Persson of Sweden Rock Festival. "When we saw TRIUMPH was inducted into the Canadian Music Industry Hall Of Fame, then read some statements from the members that 'maybe one day we will do something together again,' we jumped in with an immediate offer - and it looks like we're helping write some new history! A fantastic band with so many classic albums is just what Sweden Rock Festival is all about. I am very proud to be able to present this band at this year's Sweden Rock Festival. I'm just one of many fans that are looking forward to this fantastic show."

As one of the godfathers of prog metal and leading lights of arena rock, TRIUMPH formed in 1975, and built a large and loyal fanbase by the late '70s on the strength of their non-stop touring schedule throughout Canada and the USA and the success of their classic albums, "Rock & Roll Machine" and "Just A Game".

But it was in the 1980s when TRIUMPH truly became a force to be reckoned with, as a string of gold/platinum-certified albums ("Progressions of Power", "Allied Forces", "Never Surrender" and "Thunder Seven") and classic hits ("Fight the Good Fight", "Magic Power", "Lay It On The Line") solidified the group as one of rock's top concert attractions.

With their music continuing to live on during their absence, fans will now finally get the opportunity to catch this live legend on stage once more.

searching for information about rush tix through AmEx, i ran across a brokers ALREADY selling tix to a few shows including Philadelphia, & Woodlands Pavilion
they are at this link from the simple google search... link strange and a bit disconcerting knowing who has gotten first crack at tix. it ain't us die hard rush fans!
#92 - Posted 1/19/08 @2:20AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

HYF - i found a website like that also, but i'm not sure if its' the same one. they were offering decent seats (most of them within the first 20 rows) for three shows. however, the cheapest tickets were $128 each (for a 15th row). some as expensive as $628. as much as i love rush, i can't afford prices like that. its unfortunate that these seats won't be available people on a tight budget.
#93 - Posted 1/19/08 @2:25AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

correction for #92. after looking at the site again, it appears that most of them are around the 20th row for that SECTION. be careful if you want to buy these tickets. they don't seem worth those outrageous prices.

just like when buying tickets normally.

Anyone have insight into why they're doing this extended tour? Originally I thought they were going to hit all indoor venues or go to places they didn't on the first leg, but when I saw that they're returning to some of the same outdoor spots they've already hit I must admit I became puzzled. Please don't say I'm looking a gift horse in the mouth (and I definitely plan to see their Concord CA show- evidently the only northern CA show this time) but this seems unprecedented in their 30+ year career. Is it the fun, the money, the motorcycle trips? Not complaining, just curious.
#96 - Posted 1/19/08 @3:19AM by Hold_Your_Fire [contact]

RicScully, I hope I am wrong and I know it is blasphamy to speak these words but I am very concerned this is the last tour we will see them on and they want to give us fans a nice going away. I pray I am wrong but I cannot imagine they would do basically an extended tour of 100-120 shows when they have been touring less and less (and we all know how much the professor likes to tour.
#97 - Posted 1/19/08 @3:46AM by Bravest Face

HYF and Ricscully, maybe I am being optimistic and also cynical at the same time in saying that I don't think this is the last tour and I think it may be more about the money than we think. First off, HYF, you are right that in the past Neil has expressed his displeasure with touring, (I picked up on your note of scarism! lol!!) however, this past tour he actually seemed to enjoy it to a certain degree more than he ever has, or at least has in a while.

Also, family is not as much of an issue as it once should have been. The only one with a younger child as Geddy and he actually expressed a tad greater displeasure this last time around that Neil due to the fact I believe.

I say this, put yourselves in their shoes, if you could make a good living traveling the country (and the world) and doing what you love for as long as possible, wouldn't you? That being said, it's not all about the money of course, they love what they do, I believe truly want to please their diehard fans, and have a passion for music, but money factors into everyone's equation at some point, that's just reality.

If it is their last tour, they are going out with a bang, but somehow I just don't think so.
#98 - Posted 1/19/08 @4:19AM by RicScully [contact]

Thanks HYF & BF for your thoughts; it just seems odd this question wasn't raised in the earlier comments (unless I've missed it). I too so hope this isn't the end. I guess what's at the root of my question is, if this was 25 years ago, they would be heading back to the studio to record their next masterpiece. Instead they are heading out on the road to play an updated version of what they just performed. I saw their show last August in Sacramento and it was great, and I am so happy to have the chance to see them again, so this is in no way a criticism of the band, it's just an idle curiosity. Like most of us, I'm curious about what these guys are really thinking.
#99 - Posted 1/19/08 @4:23AM by Citizen of the World [contact]

I can't believe that some people think it's about the money. What group are we talking about here? This is Rush, people. I've been a fan of this band since 1974 and I have never met a group of people with more integrity than these three. If it had been about money, 2112 would never have been made. Just listen to the lyrics and the interviews. These guys do what they love on their own terms. How many of us wish we could say the same? We should consider ourselves lucky that we love a band that cares so much about it's fans. In this day and age when so many people are out for a buck it's too easy to say it's for the money, don't throw these guys in the pile. There are people out there that do things for the right reasons. Call me naive, but I have to believe that there are people with integrity out there.

Phew! Glad I got that out. Think I'll get off my soapbox now.

Long Live Rush

It is so exciting to read all the posts! Folks from all over the country geting together with friends and watching the greatest band ever!

We are going to the Houston, Austin, Dallas, Abq and maybe Phoenix shows! Have to work ALOT of Overtime for this tour!! LOL

Anyone else out there live in Texas and going to the above mentioned shows? THere is the RFIT (Rush Fans In Texas) that meets - anyone doing that?

First time poster, but long time monitor of the blog. Great job Ed with the site and info. Seen a lot of comments about presales, and I'll throw in my two cents. Went thru the process last summer for the London, Ont. show with Ticketmaster. Third time thru grabbed a couple of seats in the first row second section from the front. Was fairly happy with that, and for kicks kept monitoring the sale thru the day. The ticket offerings just kept getting farther and farther away, so I stopped mid-day. Finished up work around 5:00 EST, then checked one last time. And what should appear before my unbelieving eyes but two seats in the fifth row dead-center section! Couldn't believe it, and held my breath until the order got confirmed. Was my first Rush show ever, and ended up right in front of Alex. An incredible treat for me after following them since the late seventies. So these presales can work, but you have to be patient. Wouldn't bother with ticket brokers, as I have had friends who paid thru the nose for not-so-good seats.

A shout out to #100. I'm a CNY'er, but we have a plant in Texas I'll be visiting to tie in with the Austin/Dallas shows. I'll be flying solo, so would love to meet up with some fellow Rushians for some pre-show beverages.

What a year '08 will be-tour, live DVD and a doc.?! How lucky are we?

Fuckin' A!
They are finally coming to Boise, and the night they are playing here, I have to fly to Florida.

I freakin' hate Florida!

For once I wouldn't have to drive six hours to see them.

Figures.
#104 - Posted 1/19/08 @9:07AM by ashley [contact]

So fat the consensus appears to be that presales are a crap shoot, so if anyone here decides to do a presale (from AMEX, Live Nation, or musictoday) I'd really appreciate it if you'd let us know waht you got, and how.

I used the musictoday presale last year for Va Beach, bought the first one that came up right after 10:00 am and got Section 102, Row C, Seat (34), which I was really happy with. But maybe it was easier because I was just getting one ticket, and this year I'm going with 4-6 other folks.

Thanks, Ashley

Shrimp Cot,

Hey, another Boise fan!! I've been wondering if there were more out there. Hopefully you can see them in Portland or at the Gorge. I saw the Portland show last round. Fantastic!!! I have never been to the Gorge, but that might just have to happen this time.
What do you think of the Idaho Center, BTW?
Sorry about the timing for you!
#106 - Posted 1/19/08 @9:22AM by Rob

#99 I completely agree with you on this subject!

But I am also a realist........

It's about the money
And the fun too!

I don't blame them for what they are doing
If I had the opportunity...

I would do the same thing
#107 - Posted 1/19/08 @9:24AM by Jaybird [contact]

RicScully,

To answer to your follow on question, # 98.

Back when their music was purchased by fans on albums and then CDs, RUSH had a certain level of income they were used to. That level has dropped with downloading.

They can make up for the loss of revenue by this second part of the tour.

By the way, I don't diss them for making money. And it's the other things too that have been mentioned here.

What a fantastic weekend, Rush dates for all of us to look at and decide which ones we will be attending. As for myself, my wife and I will be going to the Fort Lauderdale show for a romantic weekend together. Then we will be seeing the Orlando show with our kids(16, 15, and 13 years old) this will be their 3 rd time seeing them. I love my kids so much, but knowing that they are all huge Rush fans makes me a proud parent. This will be my 38th and 39th time seeing the boys, and it never gets old. They are by far the greatest live band to ever grace the concert stage. And in my opinion the greatest bargain when it comes to seeing a band live, in reference to the price of a ticket. Well if any of you are going to either shows, drop me a line and we could meet up for a few pre- show cocktails. And as always FEEL THE RUSH!!!!! David

post #95-ricscully,i think all those things you mentioned(fun,money,ect...)are probably all factors!! i'm sure that first and foremost they love what they do!!neil and geddy might not be in love with touring but they are in love with playing live, always have been!! they absolutely love what they do but it is also how they make a living and there is alot of money to be made with touring these days, especially with their fanbase all over the world!!i mean look at it,some of us have the means to go to see them five times a tour and those of us that can't certainly would if we had the means!! like jaybird pointed out, they don't make as much on album sales with downloading, but this was there highest grossing tour ever,if i have that correct!! point being,i am sure their are many factors that play into them adding a second leg,but probably the biggest are that they are doing what they love to do,having a great time doing it,and making alot of cash!! nothing wrong with that, and citizen has it right, there is no band out there with more integrity than rush!! but they are professionals and this is also what they do for a living. i mean, they are only in their mid fifties, that is not that old, especially since they are probably in better shape with having their personal trainers than most fifty five year olds i know!! lol
as we have discussed many times before, barring an unforseen tragedy or illness, rush is not calling it quits anytime soon!!rush fans have been talking about this since back in the eighties!! lol they are at the top of their game now and if anything seem totally revitalized and re-energized!! i really think if they were tired of doing what they do,they would have ended with "vapor trails" or especially the R30 tour but instead they moved forward with "snakes",the most pleasant and rewarding recording experience they have had in a long time!! they are on a roll now and i personally can't wait for their next album(i predict it will be out by early 2010),i expect it to be fantastic!!

Hey Ed,

Thanks again for all the work on this site. It is the best. I would imagine there is a good chance the Rush camp probably keeps an eye out here so I want to bring something up.

Open Letter to Rush and their techs,

Start on the lower end (particularly with Alex' guitar) and work your way up. I have been to many shows and a running theme is the problem with sound. The first songs at the St. Paul Excel Center are a good case in point. The arena was drowning in way too much guitar and it detracted from the show. I brought a couple first timers (decent musicians by the way) and was honestly embarrassed at how shoddy the sound was. Cleared up second set but the damage was done. I know this is falling on deaf ears for a lot of you but I just really want these 08 to be the best possible and I can't shake the feeling that the guys on the board are missing something. It is so much easier on everybody to simply start on the lower end and work into the sound rather than bludgeon everyone with distorted guitar, ruin the song, and tweak it correctly five songs into the concert. I know I am going to take some heat on this and I say this knowing the techs are far more accomplished than I with regard to concert production but something is clearly wrong when so many people are having the same complaints at multiple shows.

Necro-Love your optimism and thoughts for the future. Rush is in your blood brother and I whole heartedly agree with you. The boys are energized and I believe have reached a new enchantment level in their lives and with their music. A second helping of Rush in 08' is not just about the money. It's about the fans and the exhilaration they felt when performing for them in 2007. Out of all the bands in the world you are experiencing more than just music from Alex, Geddy and Neil. You are getting an entire package of musical and lyrical emotions.............

A Rush........

Not only do their fans feel it, they are feeling the Rush and the final page has not been written or even thought about at this point in time.

Ricscully-To get away from the philosophication (however the f#@%*! you spell it)and to put it bluntly, Rush ain't goin f#@%*! no where!!! They are feeling like they are on top of the damn world right now and still have plenty to deliver for many years to come. I think we are all in for the best Rush we have ever seen or experienced in our lives this year. Can't wait to see the new set list!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!

Okay, I calm down now..........................NOT!!!!
#128 - Posted 1/19/08 @2:22PM by Sean [contact]

Just to throw my $.02 in the ring towards earlier discussions on the reason for the additional leg..it has nothing to do with breaking up. It is also not unusual in the sense that they toured in different legs for the Roll The Bones tour after they had gone to Europe and came back to do another round in the U.S., there was the Exit Stage Left...tour and they toured for ATWAS, Spring training, Tour of the Nadars , Radio City shows in 83.

Those reasons were due to the interest in the band and the money they can make. There is an interest from promoters who can book acts that can sell 10-12k seats on their own and know they need to do little in the way of promotion to get people to the show. The fan base of Rush is glued into when and where the band is going to be. Just like a lot of other cult following bands whether it be Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, Phish, KISS, Van Halen, The Dead etc..

The addition to Rush music on the video games Guitar Hero and Rock Band have also given a new exposure to the band as well. A few years ago it was the massive exposure from Rio and R30 on VH1 Classic. Those concerts have not been shown in over a year now on the channel but the video games have become a staple in millions of homes around the country and the globe.

The addition of the Internet has exposed and shed light on the band as well on sites like YouTube and it has allowed a younger generation who is looking for anything to be influenced by to reach out to.

I saw a lot of younger to older teens this past leg than I have seen since the RTB tour when Primus brought in the teens. Candlebox brought in a bunch as well but they really hit it big when the Rush tour was winding down.

Sure, a lot of Dad's brought their kids to the shows and exposed them that way. But I talk to many teens and they know Rush through older relatives or those video games these days. So Rush is capitalizing on the interest and are pushing their limit to see if it was just a phase or if people are really into going to a Rush concert again like they were in the 80s.

They certainly are not into Snakes & Arrows. If that was the case the record would have sold over 300k at the very least by now. It still remains their poorest selling studio LP of all time. The money is in merchandise and touring along with DVD sales...and they know it.
#129 - Posted 1/19/08 @2:35PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

sean- i agree with everything you said, just want to add something again about "snakes and arrows"!! album sales,in my opinion, isn't always reflective on whether people "ARE into" a particular album because many people download albums these days and justify it by what they spend on concerts and dvd's!! i agree witheverything you are saying, just think its important to point that out as well!!
#130 - Posted 1/19/08 @2:49PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

speaking of possible changes in the setlist...didn't someone report that they were rehearsing "in the end" during the european leg of this tour? that would certainly be kick ass!!

I have a feeling that The Analog Kid is going to be performed. I do hope so.

terry- i think that they possibly could replace digital man with analog kid, that would be cool!!!
#135 - Posted 1/19/08 @3:32PM by Terry [contact]

It would indeed. I think that they could also possibly replace Entre Nous with Jacob's Ladder.

Sean # 128 and Nec #129

Every time I talk Rush (which is, oh...about every 5 minutes or so) people look at me and say, "they're still out there?" or "Love that old stuff, like 2112". Many people don't realize they've been around all this time. They got to a show and expect to hear Tom Sawyer, Limelight, and 2112, (and maybe the Trees) people don't know that Snakes is out there, let alone Vapor Trails, they stopped buying the records in the late 80's. Take for instance my Buddy Mike, heluva guy, we met 'cause my wife knew his wife, we started to talk concerts, I mentioned Rush and that I've seen them since 1980 when our local radio station put together a petition to bring them to Philadelphia. Mike was blown away that the boys were still around, I then bombarded him with all the newer Rush he did not have (I'll call it a permanent loan) but ever since, we've owned the Stereo at parties etc. we saw 3 shows in 2007 (Montage, Camden, and MSG) mike came to my home two months early said "Happy Birthday" and handed me a ticket to the MSG show in NYC. He said he could have taken his wife, but knew that it meant a lot to me to see them again; basically, that I'd appreciate it much more. To mike, I am truly thankful, as apart from the 9/23/83 Radio City Show it was the Best performance I had ever seen. We will open the "Rush ticket buying war-room" as soon as we know the dates. We are planning on minimum of three shows in 2008 with a high probability of a 4th. My older daughter and Mike's oldest son went to Camden in'07, so I can faithfully say, my money and my kids go to RUSH. (and they always will)
#137 - Posted 1/19/08 @3:40PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

the possibilities are endless...nothing they play would shock me anymore!!geddy is singing better than ever and they are all playing better than ever, imho!! i would love to see jacob's ladder again!!!
#138 - Posted 1/19/08 @3:53PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

drummerdad- i hear what you are saying, when vapor trails came out i didn't even know it was out until months after it's release!! it's always kinda been like that with rush, until moving pictures i hardly ever heard news about rush on the radio, news was usually spread thru my network of fellow adolescent rush diehards thru magazines and things like that!! man...if only the internet and this site had been around in the past!! more than ever, the way radio is these days, they do a shitty job of promoting bands like rush!! again, thank goodness for sites like this!!
#139 - Posted 1/19/08 @4:48PM by drummerdad2112 [contact]

Necromancer, I think there's only one site like this. (maybe we should all thank Ed's family. so...thanks Mrs. Ed!!)

yes indeed there was always that network of diehard rush fans you could rely on to have a Rush party any, i mean Every night of the week.
i look at it this way, if i burn a cd for someone, it's because their interested. usually it (for the people i have re-converted) it means other cd sales and definately ticket sales. for years it been the underground battle to keep them in conversation and keep people interested. usually if you walk into my house, i have Rush playing so that my daughters friends are exposed to it unknowingly. maybe one day they will ask me who that band is...?

#142 - Posted 1/19/08 @5:37PM by Rob

drummerdad....Wasn't there some history behind that radio station petition to bring Rush to Philly?
I think this is the same thing that Bill Banascweich mentions in Visions.....Rush did not want to come back to Philly because their dressing room was broken into the last time they played there.

Or am I just crazy?
#143 - Posted 1/19/08 @5:44PM by Hemisferios [contact]

Celine Dion is going to crap her undies when she sees that highly energized crowd Rush is gonna leave her with and then close the show with stupid ballads, nice!!!

The petition was originated from Radio station WMMR 93.3 FM in Philly. Rush Played in Hershey PA May 13th 1980 on the Permanent Waves Tour and skipped coming to Philadelphia. So on the Moving Pictures Warm-up tour the radio station rallied the fan base and they came September 25th.

I just pulled out Visions and will sift. dumb-ass me, never read thru the entire book

Celine Dion - What a joke!
She is perfroming in Nashville on Jan 10th 2009! She is selling tickets a whole year before the show? Not only is her music crap, her fans let her collect interest on their mondy a year before the show.

Good Grief.....Canada should have exiled her..

And you are right...the RUSH fans are going to leave after the show. She will be singing to the clean up crew.

#123 ~ Fiat, am sorry to hear that you've 'been to many shows and a running theme is the problem with sound.'

Perhaps, the techs were a little to busy with blow up dolls.... Sorry, couldnt 'Resist'!

Celine Dion??? Who thunk that one up? Will she be singing, 'All By Myself' Ugh, that song bugs me like the Barney song.

#147.... 'Rush Tour has been canceled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!' Pls dont do that again! Lol!
#151 - Posted 1/19/08 @8:05PM by sully_digs [contact]

Celine Dion's music went down with the Titanic!

I would love to see RUSH perform something really special.

CygunsX-1 Book I Farewell to Kings
CygnusX-1 Book II Hemispheres

Both in their entirety. Now that would be ultra cool.

or

They could do Moving Pictues complete with no breaks.
The Camera Eye and Witch Hunt together is super cool.

or

Even better yet, they could just spit out 2 new songs that will be on the next album (CD these days) like they did back in the early years.

GeddyGirl - you say that Geddy is sexy! Well I can not attest to that, but I will tell you that he is the one and ONLY celeb that I have ever wanted to meet in person.

Growing up in Nashville I have met a lot of celebs, went to school with kids of the country music industry. And some on these are big name stars, if you like country.

But to meet Geddy would be the coolest. Neil is the god of the drum kit. Alex is in a league all by himself, but Geddy is, well Geddy!!!

When they turn the pages of history
When these days have passed long ago
Will they read of us with sadness
For the seeds that we let grow
We turned our gaze
From the castles in the distance
Eyes cast down
On the path of least resistance

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise

The hypocrites are slandering
The sacred halls of truth
Ancient nobles showering
Their bitterness on youth
Cant we find
The minds that made us strong
Cant we learn
To feel whats right and wrong

Cities full of hatred
Fear and lies
Withered hearts
And cruel, tormented eyes
Scheming demons
Dressed in kingly guise
Beating down the multitude
And scoffing at the wise
Cant we raise our eyes
And make a start
Cant we find the minds
To lead us closer to the heart

Sully and other donators, I would like to make a donation, too. How do we do that?

On Celine Dion, I just don't know where to start, so I won't. I have sort of a gag reflex over her.
Maybe we could donate to a fund to pay her Not to sing any more.
#158 - Posted 1/19/08 @8:53PM by Light Years Away [contact]

lol! good one towhee!

If you want to donate, look on the main page on the right hand side about half way down where it says contribute. Just click make a donation and it will take you to paypal.

Hi Light Years,

Thanks. I'll do that right now.
Ed has made this all so fun!
#160 - Posted 1/19/08 @9:15PM by coolphantom190

Hi, towhee. ED ROCKS!!! RUSH ROCKS!!!
#161 - Posted 1/19/08 @9:32PM by sully_digs [contact]

towhee - the gag reflex comment on Celine is too funny. Pay her not to sing anymore? I agree. How about pay her to just go away with her whinny ass self, and pay her to stay the hell out of America!

Cygnus X-1 Duology was played live as a whole (book one followed by book two) on the Hemispheres Tour and the Permanent Waves Tour. They also played it on the Permanent Waves Warmup Tour with the absence of parts 2 (Apollo: Bringer of Wisdom) and 3 (Dionysus: Bringer of Love) from book two. After then, an abbreviated version of book one is occasionally played live with only the instrumental section, as is seen on Rush in Rio and R30. They never played the whole book two after the Permanent Waves Tour, however the Prelude is occasionally performed.
#162 - Posted 1/19/08 @9:52PM by towhee [contact]

Hi Light years - thanks again for the donation info. done.

Hi Sully, yes, leaving america would work, too! :) good one.

Hi Coolphantom - Yes, you're right - Ed Rocks and Rush Rocks! I just discovered this site this summer. Oh how much I've been missing! But at least I know now and will enjoy it into the future!

Any Boise fans out there? Well, not fans of Boise, necessarily, but of Rush in Boise? :) I was shocked and thrilled to hear the news of their visit. Still have to see them out of town, too, though. Looking at the Gorge. Have been hearing rave reviews. Red Rocks looks amazing and comes highly recommended too. Not that this is news to any of you.

Good to meet all of you.

Convert military time 21:12 to regular time 9:12.....
9:12 or 9/12
You have Neil Peart's birthday
September 12

I know.....just amuse me
#164 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:01PM by Light Years Away [contact]

Hi towhee,

I'm hoping to hit the gorge this time around too. I've never been there, it looks great! I did get to Red Rocks last summer and all I can say is if you have the chance to go.... do it!! you will not be dissapointed!!
#165 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:01PM by coolphantom190

Same case, towhee. I didn't find RUSHISABAND until just a little bit before I saw Rush. It was sad I didn't find this site earlier. I would like Rush playing at least 1 song from Power Windows, Presto, or Test For Echo. A song they can say, "This is a song we pulled of of the vaults!!!" :)
#166 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:06PM by Rob

coolphantom......It would be cool if they did Scars...
I always thought it sounded good on the Presto tour
#167 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:13PM by coolphantom190

Yeah, Rob. Totally. Or maybe, The Pass or Superconductor!!! My two favorites off Presto. I would also really like to see Marathon with the rear screen video they used on the Hold Your Fire tour!!!
#168 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:26PM by sully_digs [contact]

Converting military time to regular time? Man that is feaking great. I'm telling you the 2112 album was deep.
So deep in fact, that is when they started getting labeled "devil worshipers" and "satanic servnets"! Complete bullshit.

I have even read this in magazines before:
RUSH = riots underneath satans house....

LOL what a fucked up world we live in today!

Thanks Rob for another symbolic reason to LOVE 2112
#169 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:35PM by coolphantom190

2112 is such an amazing album!!! It was amazing that Rush performed A Passage To Bangkok on the Snakes And Arrows Tour! Wouldn't it be cool if they played Something For Nothing on the 2nd leg???

#174 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:51PM by sully_digs [contact]

There is a hidden feature (Easter egg) on the Rush In Rio DVD. On the second disc, select the 2nd multi-angle video and let it begin. Then go back to the menu then select the 1st multi-angle video. Let it begin, then go back to the menu, then 1st again, then 2nd again: "2nd-1st-1st-2nd." It will open a video from 1975, "Anthem."
#175 - Posted 1/19/08 @10:51PM by Bravest Face

#181 - Posted 1/19/08 @11:11PM by sully_digs [contact]

Pretty incredible set list I thought.

More fact on 2112:
This song is actually a criticism of the music industry, and how they try to control song length and style.

There was no complete live recording of this song until the release of the 1998 Different Stages: Live three disc set. An abbreviated version appeared on the 1976 live disc All The World's A Stage. (Even though Geddy says "Side 1 of our latest album." Oracle is left out.

The song is considered a "suite" and divided into 7 chapters: I) Overture, II) The Temples of Syrinx, III) Discovery, IV) Presentation, V) Oracle: The Dream, VI) Soliloquy, VII) Grand Finale. In the printed lyrics, each chapter begins with a text story, describing the events.

'And the meek shall the earth' are the first words spoken in the begining, and God created the world in 7 days. And also plays the drum kit on this album.

The 21st of December is the begining of winter. (21/12)

With the original LP version (vinyl)from the time when the needle was placed on the record until the needle arm would raise itself off the record was exactly 21:12 in length. Try it and see.

The Mayan Calendar ends on 12/21/12 Not forgoing further correlation to the mysticism of this number, there are several other civilizations that pinpoint this day as being the begining of the "end of times". It is believe by scientists that our solar system will pass thru the eliptical plane of the Milky Way (IE top to bottom) and during the transition will be diametrically aligned with the center of our galaxy, a spot believed to contain a massive black hole. also, our sun has massive solar flares every 7 years and the last flare was in december of 2005. (recall the blackout anyone?) add 7 years to 2005 and you get 2012. these solar flares could potentially occur at the same time we are in the excessive gravitational pull of the black hole thereby effectively incinerating every planet in the solar system. this information was taken from a special called "Doomsday:2012" on the History Channel. CAN'T WAIT TILL DECEMBER 21,12!

Just as recent as last week, NASA released facts that stated that there were tiny black holes in the universe that were joining together slowly and swallowing entire moons and stars. But in would not effect earth of near earth for another century at least.

I'm tired...Sully signing out..unplugging from my computer to go watch some Templevision.

Well I see that no one has yet to see that the song list I produced was strictly great RUSH songs in alphabetical order. YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

But wouldn't it be awesome.....
#184 - Posted 1/19/08 @11:19PM by coolphantom190

Yeah. Pretty interesting how you did it. Rush wouldn't play a Setlist in alphabetical order, sully!! It is still an awesome setlist. What about Superconductor???
#185 - Posted 1/19/08 @11:31PM by Bravest Face

Sully, okay, you called us on that one! I am a little too drunk and preoccupied to pay that much attention! lol!!

However, the setlist competition would be a good idea! Personally, I think we will see a somewhat similar list with a few change ups, but then, who knows what those change ups will be? hmmm...

Well, yeah. The Pass is such great song. Your encore also looks pretty good. I would like them to play stuff they haven't played before live or songs they have not played for a long time! That would be awesome.

A good and I think fairly accurate to some degree possible setlist! For me off Presto, as great as "The Pass" is, I would like to see "Available Light" or "Anagram" I know, highly unlikely, but I can hope!
#195 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:24AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

lol, sorry on that one cool!! superconductor is actually one of my least favorite rush songs!! but i know alot of rush fans like that entire album but its probably my least favorite to be honest!
#196 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:27AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

they may replace "one little victory" too,but i'm not sure with what!!
#197 - Posted 1/20/08 @2:42AM by sth2112 [contact]

Necromancer,

Nice job on the set-list, i think they'll change things up a little more, they'll definatley be putting in different things. Thats to much like the first leg i think. Good job though!
#198 - Posted 1/20/08 @6:18AM by max o'webster [contact]

Too much star trek. Would be nice to see them play S & A tunes not gigged first time round. There is the possibility that Celine Dion will go lame and have to be destroyed before that gig.

Will the final farewell be in Toronto shortly after.

Good job Spock's Beard move from strength to strength.

I chatted with Howard Ungerleider during the break at the Manchester UK show and he told me at the time that there was a chance of seeing the boys in Saskatoon in the spring, well imagine what a great surprise to find out I only have to drive 45 minutes to the show in Regina!!
#202 - Posted 1/20/08 @9:21AM by Fiat [contact]

Regarding the speculation about this being their last tour--no a chance. Neil position as principled as we may have thought it was is on record for all to see. This is a money grab as they know the clock is ticking and they have found themselves in the midst of a bit of a Renaissance. They have just waited for the dust to settle a bit and are now coming back around to give us crackheads another quick fix. Don't get me wrong, I'm loving it and will be at at least two shows but come on. Let's call this what it is.
Here is hoping the live is something special and that they revamp the setlist and stageshow a bit to keep things interesting.

I hope they change it up a bit on the set list. I enjoyed the first go-round, but I would love to see them mix things up.

I could do without OLV and Dreamline, replace those with a couple old favorites like Closer to the Heart or Xanadu.

I would love to hear In The End.

#205 - Posted 1/20/08 @9:53AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i never get tired of seeing them perform xanadu, thats for sure!!
#206 - Posted 1/20/08 @9:55AM by Denny Crane [contact]

Didn't they have THREE legs to their Roll The Bones Tour?

If I recall correctly I think they did. Did the set list change much during those different legs? I really don't care if they change the set list or not, I would see them either way, hell, I'd watch them play everynight if I could. But, for all those casual fans out there they might want to hear a new and revamped set list.

Thoughts...
#207 - Posted 1/20/08 @10:22AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

denny- i looked it up and it looks like they started the tour in oct of 91 and went til the the middle of dec, then took a month off for the holidays, and then resumed the tour until june of 92.they made a few changes to the setlist along the way,but it basically remained the same!! that's how i think it will be this time also!! You have to remember it's still the "snakes and arrows" tour,so most of those songs will remain, maybe a couple will be swapped out for other "snakes" tunes that havent been played live! they may make a few changes with some of the classics, but i don't think it going to be drastically different! there is alot that goes into the planning of the tour these days with the visuals that go along with each song!!i don't think it would be very pratical for them to change the setlist too drastically, but we will see!!
#208 - Posted 1/20/08 @11:26AM by TheHonestMan [contact]

Any word on the release of a live version of Workin' Them Angels?
#209 - Posted 1/20/08 @11:59AM by coolphantom190

That is what I am wondering, HonestMan. I am desperate to see that live video from ROTTERDAM!!! :)
#210 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:14PM by sully_digs [contact]

Rush will be changeing out 25% of their setlist. Which equates to about 6 songs.

Denny Crane - That is the best screen name here. I hope you dont have mad cow disease.
#211 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:23PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

if they change about six or seven songs, that would mesh with my prediction from post#187 !! it really wouldn't shock me with anything they pulled out of the vaults, how many of us thought they would play "circumstances"!! i'm really looking forward to see what changes they do make!!
#212 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:27PM by Denny Crane [contact]

sully

No mad cow here buddy. Just a bad case of aging greatness...

Necro, I think you're right, too much goes in to these shows to start changing major aspects. I suspect this second leg will be very similar to the first, maybe a song or two switch out. But to tell you the truth, I absolutely LOVED the set list.

Long time reader first time poster here.First of all thanks to Ed for all his hard work on keeping Rush fans up to date.I live near Salt Lake and have attended every show since M.P I loved the S&A show and will have to travel to see round 2. I have never seen any concert outside of Utah. I have 3 options and I am leaning to Red Rocks. Question for anyone out there that has been to RR. Looking at the seating chart it appears the front row is quite aways from the stage is this true? Also I have finally conviced my 18 year old son that Rush is the best band ever and he will be attending his 1st Rush show. How do I get seats within the first 10 rows ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
#215 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:34PM by pinkfloyd2000 [contact]

IMO, it's time for one or more of the following songs in the setlist:

The Camera Eye
Hemispheres
Jacob's Ladder
Grand Designs/Middletown Dreams/Emotion Detector/Territories (in other words, one of the "long lost" PW tracks)
Afterimage
Kid Gloves
Freeze/Nocturne/Sweet Miracle (in other words, something from VT besides OLV/Secret Touch/Earthshine)

Anyone else think that "Kid Gloves" would make for an absolutely fantastic opening song?

But, as someone else noted already, I'd pay to see any setlist. Even if Rush wanted to do "Summertime Blues" six times in a row and then say "Goodnight!" I'd probably still be there. :-)
#216 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:40PM by Denny Crane [contact]

geddythegr8,

Even though I have never been to Red Rocks, from what I hear it is the best thing going. As far as the front row, I guess RR usually sets those aside for handicapped (handicapble) and blocked off from the others. I also heard that Red Rocks seating starts out at stage level. The front row is literally standing a few feet away from the stage. No raised stage and whatnot. Good luck. Your son sounds smart...

I may be seeing Rush live in Indianapolis as well as Concord, CA. Could there be any sort of problem in entering the USA 5-6 weeks after I left it?
#218 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:43PM by Terry [contact]

...As a British citizen that is...
#219 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:50PM by coolphantom190

Terry, I am going to Indy concert, I think.
#220 - Posted 1/20/08 @12:54PM by Terry [contact]

Great, I wasn't going to go to the Indy one but I have just been asked by a very good friend of mine whether I can make it and, despite spending 10 days in California in May, I've always wanted to see a Rush show with him.
#221 - Posted 1/20/08 @1:00PM by coolphantom190

Terry, Verizon in Indy is a great venue. Rush had a great attitude when I saw them there on the SNAKES AND ARROWS tour.
#222 - Posted 1/20/08 @1:03PM by Terry [contact]

I guess that Rush are going to make me broke, but happy at the same time! :)
#223 - Posted 1/20/08 @1:22PM by coolphantom190

Awesome, Terry.
#224 - Posted 1/20/08 @2:08PM by TMMB [contact]

I think The Camera Eye would be a great opening song!!! I was listening to it last night and I could just see how cool that song would be live. I don't think I have ever seen them play it live.
#225 - Posted 1/20/08 @2:19PM by Terry [contact]

I don't think Geddy likes being stuck behind the keyboards for that song.

I'd actually quite like to hear The Big Money or Marathon on the '08 tour.
#226 - Posted 1/20/08 @2:26PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

TMMB-i love "the camera eye" but it would never be an opening, its too long i think! how bout as the last song before intermission? i picked "in the end" in my predicted setlist(post 187),but camera eye would be cool too!!
#227 - Posted 1/20/08 @2:31PM by coolphantom190

Terry, Big Money or Marathon would be awesome!!! :)
#228 - Posted 1/20/08 @2:57PM by sully_digs [contact]

There is one article about the setlist that I can not find again that quotes Alex saying they are changing only 25% of the set list. Which would be 6 songs.

Anybody got any guesses which 6 will get dropped?
#233 - Posted 1/20/08 @3:03PM by Denny Crane [contact]

Can anyone say DOUBLE AGENT
#234 - Posted 1/20/08 @3:08PM by Terry [contact]

I think that Summertime Blues, Entre Nous, Digital Man, The Larger Bowl, The Main Monkey Business and Secret Touch are going to be replaced with The Big Money, Jacob's Ladder, The Analog Kid, Faithless, Leave That Thing Alone and Earthsine.
#235 - Posted 1/20/08 @3:13PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

that would be a good one too, terry!!
#239 - Posted 1/20/08 @4:38PM by Terry [contact]

I may be one song too short for the second set. I'll just add in The Weapon between Witch Hunt and Mal Nar!
#240 - Posted 1/20/08 @6:15PM by Terry [contact]

Tears from 2112 shouldn't be too hard for Geddy to sing as there is nothing which requires any vocal strain.

Kid Gloves -- yes!! I would die if they played that. Just like P/G, that song initially didn't strike me but over the years I've come to absolutely love it and can't conceive of how I didn't. Perhaps one of my favorite Lerxst solos on that one.

As much I enjoyed hearing Between the Wheels, I'd be cool if they replaced that with this one, or (as you suggest) Afterimage, or Body Electric. Or Enemy Within...hmmm...since they've already been playing Witch Hunt, what if the "update" to them setlist was them playing all four parts of Fear?

*Highly* unlikely, I know, but going with that line of thought here's how they might pull it off?

Swap Between the Wheels with The Enemy Within
Swap Digital Man with The Weapon
Swap Secret Touch with Freeze

Hello everyone

Anybody got an opinion on the Nokia Center LA.

I am seriously thinking about flying to LA from UK to watch the gig. I have relatives there so I am killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

My finger is hovering over the "book this trip" button !

Feel free to contact me off the blog if you like.

cheers
Chris
#243 - Posted 1/21/08 @12:26PM by rush2992 [contact]

I REALLY hope they come back to the UK soon. I was hoping that they would add SOME Europe dates to this extension, but now it looks highly unlikely. I'm gutted. I'm 15, and I went to the Birmingham show in the UK and it was immense. It was my first Rush show. My big fear is that this tour will be their last, and I'd be gutted if I couldn't ever see them again.

PLEASE Rush, don't make this your last tour!!! PLEASE come back to the UK!! Thousands of people want you!

I would love to see this set list. Don't groan when you see it as I too have also heard these songs many times before in concert. As much as we may want to deny it the best crowd reaction at the concerts still come from the "radio classics" (Spirit, Limelight, Subdivisions, Tom Sawyer, etc.)It covers all the albums, includes some slow stuff, acoustic stuff, and comes in just over 3 hours. Broon's Bane could lead into CTTH. I would love to hear Alex extend the end of Different Strings (ala David Gilmour on Comfortably Numb.

2112 Grande Finale
2112 Overture
2112 Temples of Syrinx
Bastille Day
Between the Wheels
Broon's Bane
By-Tor
Closer to the Heart (extended ending)
Crossroads
Different Strings (extended solo at the end)
Distant Early Warning
Dreamline
Drum solo
Earthshine
Far Cry
Finding My Way
Freewill
Half the World
La Villa Strangiato
Limelight
Main Monkey Business
Malignant Narcissism
Manhattan Project
Mission
Natural Science
Nobody's Hero
Resist
Roll the Bones
Show Don't Tell
Subdivisions
Territories
The Spirit of Radio
Tom Sawyer
Turn the Page
Witch Hunt
Working Man
YYZ

All I ask for is to see Faithless & Chemistry. I heard the S&A producer liked the latter song and that they were rehearsing it early in the tour last year. In an interview Geddy alluded to it, saying that Nick Raskulinecz (the producer) was an avid fan of the band and asked them to consider songs that Geddy "forgot they wrote". I'm sure there was tongue in cheek, but oh what a treat that'd be! I still remember the banner (Bed sheet) that we drew CHEMISTRY all over in the Signal tour, trying to get them to play it. They haven't played it since!
Faithless is just plain kick ass & they must perform that one, eh?
