Posted at 5:31PM | comments (188)

Rush Snakes & Arrows TourUPDATE - 1/14@12:34PM: I've just heard the tour dates announcement will not be happening today (Monday, Jan. 14) but will be later in the week - most likely Friday, Jan. 18. I won't be updating this post; I will put any further updates in this newer post.

UPDATE - 1/12@3:21PM: More stuff to report. It seems that there are a lot of last-minute adds and changes taking place due to the abrupt switch of the South American dates from the beginning of the tour in May to the end in August.

First off, since that Mohegan Sun show seems to be a go - that Hartford, CT date may be in question. I'm going to keep it on the list for now but I thought I'd just give a heads up. There's also been a hold on the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia for a while now, and it now looks like that show will be happening sometime in July.

Also, I heard that KNST AM out of Tuscon mentioned this morning that Monday they'd be announcing the details regarding a Phoenix-area date as well as ... a live album from Rush! With a live album release, that would make a live Workin' Them Angels single (see update below the list) being released all the more likely. It would also give them something to promote on the tour. I can only assume it would be the live audio from Rotterdam. I guess we'll find out all the details Monday. More to come ...

----- snip -----

UPDATE - 1/12@11:38AM: Mohegan Sun Arena - Uncasville, CT, July 7th (thanks afrknob).

UPDATE - 1/11@10:25PM: One more pending venue; Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh, NC.

UPDATE - 1/11@10:17PM: I wanted to touch on one other subject related to the tour date announcement. Back in early November I'd mentioned that the band would be releasing the Workin' Them Angels single to coincide with the tour announcement, rather than releasing it last October as originally planned. I'd also mentioned they'd planned to release a video for the song which would use portions of the recordings for the live DVD that was filmed in Rotterdam. My radio sources are confirming this is still a go. So on Monday we should also expect a Workin' Them Angels single in addition to the tour announcement. Now since the video is supposed to use live footage ... and the single is to promote a tour, I have a sneaking suspicion that the single may be a live version of Workin' Them Angels - not the studio version. I always thought that song came across really well live too. More to come ...

UPDATE - 1/11@2:27PM: It looks like a date was unintentionally put into the Ticketmaster system. Here's the link - not sure how long it'll be up though. It is saying Rush will play the Starlight Theatre in Kansas City, MO on Saturday June 7th. Thanks to LVS_R for the heads up.

UPDATE - 1/11@12:31PM: More updates. The venue for the July 4th Atlantic City show is a little fuzzy. It might be at the Etess Arena at the Trump Taj Mahal instead of the Boardwalk.

The Cincinnati show will be at Riverbend - not US Bank and will happen on June 30th.

The US tour will launch on Tuesday April 15th at the Amway Arena in Orlando, FL and the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena show will be on the following day - Wednesday, April 16th.

The PNC Arts Center show will be on July 12th.

As it looks right now, late April into May will see the band out in the Western US. Then the Canadian dates will be in June. The South American dates are still on but have been pushed back towards the end of the tour in August.

More to come ...

----- snip -----

UPDATE - 1/11@8:45AM: I have several more updates and should have more throughout the day. I'll probably hold off on my regular Friday Updates post until tomorrow and just focus on the tour information today.

The Phoenix date seems to be a go right now, but it may take place at the Cricket Pavillion instead of Jobing.com Arena.

Everett Events Center in Seattle is out. The Gorge will be the Washington venue. Clark County Amphitheater in Portland has been added.

US Bank Arena in Cincinnati has been added.

----- snip -----

I've received a few more updates so I thought I'd put up a fresh post. My sources are also telling me that the official tour dates should be released via Rush.com this coming Monday, January 14th with the first round of tickets going on sale Saturday, January 26th. There's bound to be a fan pre-sale too although I haven't heard any details yet. For the first leg, dates were announced on a Monday and the pre-sale began the next day, with regular tickets on sale the following Saturday. It sounds like maybe they'll give us a little breathing room first this time between the announcement and when tickets go on sale. We'll see.

I have a couple of venue updates to make since my last update. First off, the Saratoga Springs at the SPAC is out. I'm also sad to say that Fairbanks, Alaska is off the list. They are trying to see if they can get another venue up there but it's looking unlikely. However, Foro Sol in Mexico City has been added. So Mexico seems to have nailed 2 shows this go-around.

Here's the updated list. More as I learn it.

(list has been moved up towards top of post)

So does anyone have an opinion on the chance that they will add more North American shows later on, ala Madison Square Garden and a few other dates and venues in 2007?

MSG was incredible, and so was the pre-party at stouts.
i'd do that again in a heartbeat....
#8 - Posted 1/10/08 @6:55PM by Spindrifter [contact]

So, this Monday we repeat the cycle again!

And it'll be worth every breathtaking moment!

Toss out E~bottles to all of the RIAB vets and crank it up a notch.

Nothing against you or your source Ed. Even though you were 99.9% on target with venues and dates before they were released the 1st leg. But, the list kinda baffles me with one show in the Bay Area and one in PA. Although, the #'s were down for the Shoreline show and if I remember, they were pretty damn high for Pa.

Bravado... Have you heard anything about White River, or, umm, can you check with your contact n let me know?

Can Monday get here any faster????
#9 - Posted 1/10/08 @7:25PM by Mike H. [contact]

This is starting to feel more & more like a farewell tour. I mean, my god, how much longer can these guys be on the road?? Even hitting some cities twice after this second leg??? They'll still be touring even a year after S&A's release... I just hope they're not throwing in the kitchen sink this tour so they can feel like they really gave it their all this one last time, and then shut it all down afterward for good...
#10 - Posted 1/10/08 @7:27PM by shockobabble [contact]

I'm anxious to get some advanced tickets for the Puerto Rico show. But not sure how. I checked LiveNation, Coliseo de Puerto Rico is not one of their venues, so even if tickets do go on sale for PR, they won't be available there. So if not there, where?
#11 - Posted 1/10/08 @7:46PM by TMMB [contact]

How does one get an account for the Rush fan pre-sale? Is that set up through Rush.com site, Ticketmaster, Live Nation or somewhere else?
#12 - Posted 1/10/08 @7:55PM by TMMB [contact]

As far as this being a farewell tour I highly doubt it. I mean, they just recently put out new material (Snakes & Arrows is still kinda new), they are up for a Grammy, they had one of their best selling tours in quite some time and they are promoting it with a 2nd leg. And, there have been rumors they have been writing on the road. I think they are energized and still having fun. If they were calling it quits I just don't see that happening right after all the recent success. Maybe I'm just being optimistic but that's how it appears to me. Just more gas money for Neil!
#13 - Posted 1/10/08 @7:59PM by Hfuhruhurr Uumellmahaye [contact]

#9

I disagree...not a farewell tour...and as for how can they keep it up? Two words...Rolling Stones.

RUSH seem to be having a lot of fun, (even Neil as long as he can tour the back roads) and from what I understand they are making "big money". Having fun, making lots of CAYSH...why quit?
#14 - Posted 1/10/08 @8:03PM by Hfuhruhurr Uumellmahaye [contact]

TMMB

If I had known what you were gonna post in #12. I wouldn't have posted 13... talk about redundant.
#15 - Posted 1/10/08 @8:37PM by Jaybird [contact]

Agree with TMMB.

Also, bands like RUSH no longer make as much money as they did before off records sales, so they have to make it by touring.

I tip my hat to them. When I travel for a week, I'm grumpy for days afterward!
#16 - Posted 1/10/08 @8:37PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

at the risk of being redundant, there is no way that this is the farewll tour! i get amused by all of us(Myself included)we love this band so much that we are paranoid that they will call it quits!!! well, they will someday but i don't see it coming anytime soon! they are arguably hotter than ever right now and are at the top of their game when it comes to playing and presentation!! if anything, this album and tour probably re-energized them for the final chapters in their marvelous careers!!i believe that they probably have been writing on the road, like they have done many times in the past!! i bet they will be chomping at the bit to get back in the studio!! as far as their ages, they have never been as hard on their bodies with the usual rock and roll lifestyle as other bands, they have personal trainers and are probably in better shape than anybody in their mid fifties that i know!! they don't really play back to back nights anymore,so they do get some rest!! like i have said before, barring some unforseen tragic event or illness, our boys will keep rockin for a while longer!! let's just enjoy it!! RUSH ON!!!
#17 - Posted 1/10/08 @8:54PM by dadof4 [contact]

Excitement so thick....
#18 - Posted 1/10/08 @9:08PM by A Symptom Of Life [contact]

No! Nooo!! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Dammit - Fairbanks is off the list. Thanks Guys, now I'll have to spend 500 bucks just to get to Seattle because Alaska Airlines has a stranglehold up here. Anyone can fly in but nobody can GET OUT. Anchorage has the Sullivan Arena - crappy acoustics but it's only a few minutes drive for me. Go there!
#19 - Posted 1/10/08 @9:24PM by jaytee578 [contact]

farewell, shmarewell. i'll believe it when i see it. i agree with all of you who've said it--they just seem WAY too future-centric right now to be hanging it up. i've certainly been wrong before, so i'm not holding my breath or anything, but i am certainly optimistic. cautiously, that is. i'm just going to live it up for this tour... and not get worked up about what the future might bring.
#20 - Posted 1/10/08 @9:43PM by Spindrifter [contact]

If it is in fact 'AF2K's' tour.... U heard that from me first a few months back.

Dadof4... Yer #17 has mounted goosebumps!

Heyya Jaytee... We seem to be crossing paths at diffrent times, lol!

A Symp... If Seattle 4 u.... Then send me an e bottle!

To all of you lurking.... Hope that we get the currents going in here this weekend and Monday!!!!!!!

signals get crossed
#22 - Posted 1/10/08 @10:13PM by coolphantom190

I am guessing I will see them somewhere in the midwest. By the way, this is not a farewell tour!!! They would have said so. The Who are in their early 60s and they just finished their recent tour. And I know they will be touring soon as well.

"Sunday night's alright. But I can't wait for Monday moooooooorning!" Gonna be stationed at Rush.com all day Monday to see the dates! :D
#25 - Posted 1/10/08 @10:43PM by jediyyz [contact]

Let the real scramble begin Monday if the dates come out!! Rush was last in Albuquerque for the Vapor Trails tour...but New Mexico was once a a must stop...heck they even kicked of Grace Under Pressure tour from Alb...waiting with much anticipation and excitement!! Not looking forward to the mad ticket race, but, anything for The Mighty Trio!!
#26 - Posted 1/10/08 @11:16PM by bravado34 [contact]

Hey Jediyyz,

Doesn't Alex have a home in NM, would seem reasonable to think they would if so?

Also, Spindrift, I only heard about Clark County nothing on Seattle. Which I'm willing to bet my left arm that they will not bypass Seattle (White River or Gorge) since I read or heard Alex mentioned they had one of their best (as a headliner) attended shows at The Gorge on the T4E tour.

#27 - Posted 1/10/08 @11:22PM by timintey [contact]

There's a 99.9% chance of me seeing Rush again soon. RRRRRRRRRRRRRUUUUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
#28 - Posted 1/11/08 @4:28AM by Rush Fan Since 1976 [contact]

Okay, I'm pumped too.... Now if we can just get them to do the whole Fear Suite live I could die a happy Rush Freak...
BUT, knowing I'm gonna see them 2 or 3 times on this leg of the tour makes life freaking GREAT, Sayin'?
#29 - Posted 1/11/08 @5:10AM by SF in Prague [contact]

To make new records and continue touring or not to:

think of it this way, the boys have a great record (S&A), are enjoying the road more than in a long time. They want to continue doing what they do (they and their crew have SAID it).

So what better way to get the fans all lubed up and drum up excitement for a new album than a tour including towns they've not played at in some time???????

If more people see them now and realise just how f-ing great they are now, more folks will likely buy the next album.

Simple logic. :-)
#30 - Posted 1/11/08 @6:24AM by digitalman32 [contact]

Hi everybody !

Just looking at the new tour dates and i am sad to see they're not returning to the UK this year. However i am glad to see a new live dvd and documentry coming out so i think i'll be ok.

p.s

If you can come back to the UK some time soon that would be great.

Thanks
#31 - Posted 1/11/08 @8:46AM by nposter63 [contact]

I hope Red Rocks is on a weekend, I've gotta see that place ! and I dont have vacation time to spare.

Ill go to any Sat show I can get to. Yea Jet Blue !!!
#32 - Posted 1/11/08 @9:58AM by dedlift [contact]

I'm getting wound up now...

The myth and the magic...so triumphant.
#33 - Posted 1/11/08 @10:56AM by Spindrifter [contact]

UGH!!! Everett dumped. Oh well, kinda thought that it'd hap. More than likely White River will show up on the list as well as the Gorge. It'd be nice to have another show in my backyard!

FYI-FYI-FYI-FYI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Got a handful of e's from quite a few of you last night. And one from Jaytee reminding me the 'toast' for the first leg and that we should do one on Monday in honor of the 2nd legger, that is IF the dates are released. Anyone up to it?
#34 - Posted 1/11/08 @11:05AM by unktehila [contact]

just tOasted to you all. peace
#35 - Posted 1/11/08 @11:07AM by Lamb Saag [contact]

Hooray!! "US Bank Arena in Cincinnati has been added."

US Bank Arena (a.k.a. Riverfront Coliseum -- a.k.a. "I Stepped On You To See The Who)

Same arena where I first saw Rush on March 30 1983. Who would've thought they'd be playing here 25 years later??
#36 - Posted 1/11/08 @11:47AM by netmonster [contact]

Actually the cincy show will again be Riverbend. June 30th!
#37 - Posted 1/11/08 @11:52AM by The Clansman 2112 [contact]

It's has been less than 28 years since they played in Saskatchewan. I was 14 and I was just getting into Rush about this time so I'm looking forward to this!!!
#38 - Posted 1/11/08 @12:38PM by desertrushgirl

I'M SO HAPPY!! I don't really love Cricket Pavilion but it's a hell of alot nicer to play outdoors in the spring in Phx than it is in July (and they are always coming here in July - Jeez!)

Yea, RUSH outdoors in the spring - finally!!!

Happy, happy, happy!!!
#39 - Posted 1/11/08 @12:55PM by jediyyz [contact]

#26 Bravado34, at least at one time Alex had a house in Santa Fe...I don't see why he hasn't retained that house...I've never tried to locate it because I wouldn't want to invade his privacy, but I've always hoped I would run into him somewhere!!...Spin and Jaytee and others, I'm in for the toast!!!
#40 - Posted 1/11/08 @1:07PM by lfaguilam [contact]

Guys!!! Monterrey Mexico, we deserve it.... this will be my 3rd time on this tour, San Antonio and Toronto (yeah! at home) were out of this world....
See you then!
#41 - Posted 1/11/08 @1:07PM by Sean [contact]

I think it was Alex's sister who owned a house in Santa Fe. I don't know if she still resides there.
#42 - Posted 1/11/08 @1:27PM by snowdogx1 [contact]

Riverbend, Cincy AGAIN!!!!!!! Come on, guys! You already played there this tour. Why you passed up playing to some terrific fans in Louisville or Lexington or Bowling Green I don't understand. It's been over 20 years since you played in Kentucky! OK, I can't complain too much...Cincy is only a 90 minute drive for me, but still! I've seen Rush 25 times since 1982, and at least half of those have been in Cincinnati. Only once in Kentucky. I just don't get it. The crowds in Cincy aren't THAT great.
#43 - Posted 1/11/08 @1:27PM by jediyyz [contact]

Alex definitely owned the house himself as documented in Ghost Rider(the book written by Neil Peart). To my knowledge, I've never read of him giving up the house...looks like Phoenix and Red Rocks as well as Albuquerque are on my radar!! Hope all this is confirmed soon!!
#44 - Posted 1/11/08 @1:31PM by Liverpool.78

Perhaps this tour is like their 'spring training' used to be - to make sure that they are in the best musical shape for a return to the studio in the fall? There was a lot of talk about them being on a creative high, playing and sounding better than they have for a long time. Maybe they don't want to lose their momentum.

I think :

Second leg of the tour this spring and summer, back to the studio in the fall, live dvd et al in the Spring of 2009, New album in the fall of 2009, world tour INCLUDING THE UK through 2010.

Views?

Liver.
#45 - Posted 1/11/08 @1:37PM by Sean [contact]

I think they are going to take the tour to South America in August, shoot an IMAX down there, finish the DVD for release in November along with a live disc from the tour with a combo of songs from both legs.

Take 6-9 months off and discuss writing again and go from there.
#46 - Posted 1/11/08 @1:48PM by scottc [contact]

I think we will see the Rotterdam Ahoy DVD this summer
#47 - Posted 1/11/08 @2:55PM by Wall05

Whoa! The first Date is up!
#48 - Posted 1/11/08 @3:17PM by Lamb Saag [contact]

re #42

OK, so it's not at Riverfront Coliseum, but outdoors at Riverbend, in the heat of summer, AGAIN?

Damn, I kind of miss the old days of seeing Rush in the middle of winter, indoors at a darkened sports arena...

(Hate to say it, but Rush at Riverbend is starting to get old.)
#49 - Posted 1/11/08 @3:19PM by JohnnyTRacer [contact]

Yeah PORTLAND, OR!!! Less travel time for me, but I would drive a long way to see the best band in the land anyways! RUSH ON!!
#50 - Posted 1/11/08 @3:37PM by Snowdog2112 [contact]

I saw The Who on their farewell tour in '89, which says it all about "farewell tours". Long live the Kings!
#51 - Posted 1/11/08 @3:43PM by powpig [contact]

Is Rush gonna play Bonnaroo this year? Looks like they'll be right there in the vicinity right about that time. Zep & Rush? Road trip!
#52 - Posted 1/11/08 @4:23PM by sully_digs [contact]

RUSH will not be playing at Bonnaroo in 08. They wont be in the area during June 12-15 either. At least not according to the dates listed. But, if you are interested in seeing Zeppelin at Bonnaroo, there is a link on the Bonnaroo website that is selling advanced tickets for $27.85 each. Of course the official artist list is not out, but too many sources are confirming that Zep will be there. Can you imagine what these tickets will be worth if Zep really does play Bonnaroo? Thousands!! But remember to keep one ticket for yourself to get the chance of a lifetime to at least hear Zeppelin live, seeing is another thing. Last year Sting looked and inch and a half tall from where I was at the time they were on stage.

I sure wish RUSH would come to Nashville in 08. Save us a trip to Cincinnnati and St Louis. Maybe ATL as well.

I think I'm going Bald.....
#53 - Posted 1/11/08 @4:25PM by sully_digs [contact]

No Rush retirement! If the Stones can still play and sell out arenas without decent new material being released. RUSH can go on for another 15 years. Their next studio album will be even better. They found their second wind with Snakes.
#54 - Posted 1/11/08 @4:27PM by Spindrifter [contact]

Just checked Ticketbashers myself and its still up there!

link

For those attending sale starts Sat 3/1 at 10am. Sure makes me wanna git my tix right now!

It is in fact listed 'Snakes & Arrows' tour!!! Which puts the 'F2KS' tour to rest, for now!

Btw, why do I get the feeling they're fiddling with us as they did the first round. Lol!!!
#55 - Posted 1/11/08 @4:38PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

liver- i like your possible timeline for rush's near future!i agree with it, but i think maybe they will START the writing process,or continue it if they have already started writing on the road, in the fall and neil will send his lyrics to alex and geddy, they will continue writing thru the fall and then actually go back into the studio after the first of next year!! i think the next album will be released spring of 2010 with a tour that summer!! so we are pretty close, only really off by a few months!! hopefully our predictions will come to be!!
#56 - Posted 1/11/08 @4:53PM by Lamb Saag [contact]

Here is a site (redirected from Ticketmaster) that says Rush will play SPAC in Saratoga Springs, New York on Monday June 30th (not at Riverbend in Cincinnati). Hmmmmm.....

The boys are definately NOT done. Neil has said he is playing better than any time in his life!! And, he seems to be smiling more this tour than in the past too. I think they have found a new breath of life in Snakes & Arrows and want enjoy that for now and build on it later. I bet by mid-late-2009 we are all on here chatting our asses off about when the new album will be released and waiting for leaks (official and unofficial) to see what we are in for!!

Just my two cents and I have been wrong before. I just don't think I am this time :)
#58 - Posted 1/11/08 @5:02PM by figerade [contact]

I just went to the Anthem site, and the news on the bottom says "Rush announces 2008 Concerts Dates, go to Rush.com for details." I go to Rush.com NOTHING IS THERE! -freakout-
#59 - Posted 1/11/08 @5:58PM by Sean [contact]

Lamb Saag that date has been up for weeks on that site. It is not happening and listed as an error.

RED ALERTING~RED ALERTING~RED ALERTING!!!!!

I say we all keep our eyes peeled on all of the tix sites starting now and through the weekend. If anyone finds anything, let Ed know and toss the news to us.

A second leg of the tour has found us being tickled with another layer of suspense!

WOO-FREAKING-HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Playin' KC again, baby! I don't believe they've ever played Starlight either. The sad thing is that it's now a nicer facility than Verizon Wireless Amphi-dump. Should be rockin'!

I'm kinda hopin' they'll play Omaha, too. Got a friend up there who can get press passes!

Rush on!

glweinrib
#65 - Posted 1/11/08 @6:35PM by jadams [contact]

This is great news. Starlight is such a nice facility and it will be a great way to spend a Saturday evening in KCMO.
I still may have to make that trip to St Louis as well.
Rushin.
#66 - Posted 1/11/08 @6:45PM by Rob

#48 Maybe Rush would play US bank arena if the acoustics in there were worth a f***

I think they really wanted to play the new arena at NKU, but since it wont be ready they settled for Riverbend.

I have always said I preferred the outdoor shows because how bad US bank arena is.

HELL I'm psyched that they're coming to my town!!

Im watching Bowie do his Ziggy thing on UK tv from 197?. I now know where the Bytor and Snowdog stand off comes from. Stolen from the spiders from marrs ... and why not?
#69 - Posted 1/11/08 @7:14PM by max o'webster [contact]

Being English and having far too many children to travel long distances I really hope the second leg is great. I would hope they stick in at least another 6 different songs. I am especialliy pleased for our South American friends. If I could pick a place to see the boys or travel to in the near future it would definately be South America and not North America .... although the Winnipeg date made me smile. I saw Kim Mitchell there in 1986 !!!

#72 - Posted 1/11/08 @7:43PM by RushJax [contact]

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right place to do this, but looking for input please. It's been 15 years since I've gotten to see Rush (finally coming back to Jax!) and was wondering for those of you who have seen them already on this tour, where the best seats are? Naturally, I would think front and center, however, if you are too far in the front, is it hard to see Neil back there? Or even the screen? Also, if I'm on the side but too far toward the stage, will my view be blocked on Alex's side by amps, or Geddy's Ovens :) on the other? I'm taking my son and want it to be a great experience. GREATLY appreciate all your help! Thanks and go Jags!
#73 - Posted 1/11/08 @7:50PM by Hfuhruhurr Uumellmahaye [contact]

Hey Jax...I only saw them at amphitheatres so far and there isn't a bad seat...as long as your in the first 5 rows!!! :)
#74 - Posted 1/11/08 @7:52PM by sully_digs [contact]

Just being at a RUSH show is pleasing enough.
Sit where you want..

Bring back general admission..........
#75 - Posted 1/11/08 @7:52PM by krlowe [contact]

the only bad thing about sitting front row is that(well a few)

*bad mix of the acoustic drum sound with pa(thicker than normal sound)
*not good for seeing the light show part
BUT

*having contact with Ged, Alex, and rarely Neil while they are playing your favorate song beats ALL of that-
#76 - Posted 1/11/08 @7:57PM by primemover_3 [contact]

Rush Jax... My pref is front and center, as close to the stage as I can get, but I think you kind of miss the full spectacle of the light show. For me, I'll give that up to be as close to the stage as possible, and that's where I've been sitting since the T4E tour. Once you experience a RUSH show from 2 or 3 rows back, you'll never want to sit anywhere else again. I like hearing Neil's set before they hit the mics. Of course, this means "BIG MONEY", and I'm still paying off my trip to Toronto last September... but damn, it was so worth it!!! :) Looks like the debt monkey won't be going away soon this year, either!!! Ah, well!

Hope you have a great time whatever you decide!!
...and good luck to the Jags this Sunday. Beat the Pats!!
#77 - Posted 1/11/08 @8:02PM by rushed again bb [contact]

Hello Rushjax.
I was lucky enough to see them 4 times last year. 1 in the "pit" about 20 rows back, 2 about 75-100 rows back on an incline, and 1 about 8 rows back on Alex's right (missed a shirt by 2"). If your taking your son (IMHO), try to get close to center on the seated incline. That way he can always stand on the seat if he can't see the stage. Rush does a great job with the big high screens but It's always nice to watch them...rather than the screens. Straight back...the sound is usually very good.

#86 - Posted 1/12/08 @1:08AM by cpb [contact]

For those who might see the Red Rocks show, but have never been: it is WELL WORTH IT to invest in good "seats." While there are no bad seats there, from a visual standpoint, there are some audio problems if you're further back (and therefore higher up.)

What happens is: the sound will get carried by gusts of wind, and bounce off the stone sidewalls, creating an odd sort of effect, not unlike a "flange" sound. (Believe me, I'm making it sound cooler than it is.)

Still, the beauty of the venue makes ANY seat nice!

Austin, Texas...here we come!

God how I wish Rush would play Rockfest, a festival in Cadott, WI. There are always thousands of enthusiastic fans, and it would be an amazing coupe' for this festival...

I heard a few years ago they almost played, but didn't because of technical issues relating to their light show.

I'll still go and see them again in Milwaukee. The show in St. Paul last year was amazing!
#90 - Posted 1/12/08 @10:08AM by Wall05

A live single would be awesome! I LOVE RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are so amazing!

Thats weird about the Mohegan show - what with the other confirmed dates, one would think theyd put the mohegan show after the Jones Beach show and keep moving up the coast before coming to Boston, Manchester & Portland and Atlantic Canada....

Hey djdave2010, I have never been to that venue in Cadott. We pass right by there on 27 when we head up to our cabin which is about a hour or so north of there. What gives? We have gone by there and seen evidence of shows (tents out by 27 selling merchandise, BEER, etc.) Is is worth checking out, and how do find out info on the venue?

I will be at Joe Louis Arena this time out (have a source for great seats!) and also at the Sears Center outside of Chicago. Looking forward to two more great shows.
#95 - Posted 1/12/08 @1:16PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

pk2112-i will be at joe louis arena in detroit also!! and cincy!! can't wait!!
#96 - Posted 1/12/08 @1:45PM by pk2112 [contact]

Can't wait for these shows. They will be #41 and 42 for me. I plan on taking my 11 year old daughter to the Chicago show; she really enjoyed the Sept 8 show at the FMB Amphitheater in Tinley Park. She rocks on the expert level of YYZ on guitar hero as well. Hopefully the source comes up with awesome seats for the Joe, and it will be up to my wits and quick typing ability with my superfast internet connenction to get good seats for the Sears Center. To all those commenting about the relative quality of some of the proposed venues, here is an observation: I wouldn't care if they played in a tin shed with a leaky roof, I would be there!

now i love rush more then any other band in the world, but another live album? it was cool when they did that after every fours albums, not one after every tour! i mean, good for the guys, but come on! were getting a little over saturated here

btw, ill still end up buying it :-)

i hear that,terry!! RUSH ON!!!
#105 - Posted 1/12/08 @5:35PM by Bravest Face

Terry,

You are definitely a true Rush fan! Traveled much farther than my 8 hour drive to see the guys in Charlotte! lol!!

I love all Kentuckians, don't get me wrong! I was born a Kentuckian, and although I live in Indiana now, I understand and appreciate the compliants. However, one must admit that beyond us few devotees, there is probably not enough of a crowd to support a decent Kentucky crowd by itself. I am fine with Cincy, in fact, I am very happy, I thought I was going to have to go to Columbus! lol!! Cincy is only 90 minutes to 2 hours from me and I grew up where it was at least 90 minutes to any form of concert whatsoever!

I say, be happy that Rush is still performing live, make the short trip and rock out! How can anyone complain at this point! If Rush being too far away is all you have to worry about in your life, then I envy you!
#106 - Posted 1/12/08 @5:35PM by Terry [contact]

Exactly! We're only immortal for a limited time, after all!
#107 - Posted 1/12/08 @5:41PM by Terry [contact]

Well, I try and go to the USA every year if I can, so I decided that I had to ensure that I saw Rush this year!

Ah, I have tried to get a flight from Charlotte to Indianapolis but my flight was cancelled and when I got the first plane the next day, I discovered that my luggage wasn't there and didn't get delivered until the very end of the day.

What is a Deadhead (Yes, I am one of those, too) to do in this situation? Actually I spent the night in a bar with a friend of mine and I ended up singing Subdivisions on karaoke.
#108 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:09PM by Bravest Face

Terry,

You must be a fairly good singer! lol!! I don't disgrace Rush by singing Karaoke with my voice! lol!! I do sing other sings, I am infamous for my Kiss Karoake songs, I am fine disgracing them! lol!! I have done others, while I let my silly performance entertain!

Either way, regardless of where Rush is, go see them at the nearest location! I hope and doubt this will be the last time, but who wants to take that chance! Enjoy them while they last, no matter the circumstance, I hope to be around in 20 to 25 years and I very much doubt the guys will be touring then! lol!!
#109 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:10PM by Bravest Face

I so sing other songs!! Too much beer!! lol!!
#110 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:16PM by Terry [contact]

Ah, it was in tune and in time, I think!

I am rather glad that Freewill wasn't on there as I would have chosen it. I am not sure that I would have sounded that great singing "Each Of Us, A Cell of awareness" in that particular key. I would have sounded as though I was being strangled. Now, as for the verses in the time signatures of 6/4 followed by 7/4, x2...
#111 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:17PM by Liverpool.78

Good morning/afternoon/evening to everyone out there in Rushland.

It has just occurred to me that I am having my own personal anniversary with the guys this year.

Liver's R30 occurs in February 1978 - AFTK tour at the Liverpool Empire. If I close my eyes I am straight back there. What a gig. I remember being something near stoned because a guy in the row in front of us had a joint as big as a telegraph pole shoved in his mouth, and the smoke coming off it was like a San Francisco Bay fog. I don't do drugs myself, never have done. The gig was very memorable but would have been more so without the stench of pot.

No drug issue during the 2007 UK gigs, I'm glad to say; all the Rushows were indoor affairs, ergo all smoking had to take place outside.

Happy days.

Liver.
#112 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:24PM by Terry [contact]

Hello Liver and Greetings from East Sussex. I am going to be heading off to the USA for Rush's '08 tour. I decided to try and see them there during the Wembley show on the 9th.

My R30 will be in 2034.
#113 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:32PM by Liverpool.78

How do Terry.

My wife [The Lovely Rushian Widow - it's a long story] will be 50 years young in May. We too are planning a US holiday and will be taking in a date on the tour, hopefully in the SF bay area.

Planning will start on Monday.

Liver.
#114 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:34PM by Terry [contact]

I intend to be at the Oakland show as well. If I can afford it then I will add Vegas to my itinerary. It will be nice to see the band on American soil as I have only seen them at Wembley so far.
#115 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:45PM by Wall05

WHOO HOO WACHOVIA CENTER IN PHILLY! I'M SO THERE!
#116 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:56PM by primemover_3 [contact]

Hey guys-

My first show was @ the Cow Palace in SF, 1984, g/p tour. I was 14, sitting in the nosebleeds with a friend, totally amazed by what I was experiencing. That show totally changed my life, and I haven't missed a RUSH tour in the Bay Area since that incredible night. I can truly say that I grew up with this band, and am amazed at their longevity. It will be a sad day for me when anticipation of new albums and tours finally come to an end. Last year, I celebrated my R26, and treated myself to my first show outside of the SF Bay Area, in the boys' hometown. It was an experience that I will NEVER forget...

I credit my older brother for introducing me to RUSH in '81, and believe me, I took many an ass-whipping when I used to sneak in his room and steal his RUSH cassettes while he was out! All that to hear "TOM SAWYER" and "RED BARCHETTA" just one more time...

And that's the way it seems to have been since those days, going to extremes just to hear them play just one more time...and, it will be no different in 2008... my R27.

Peace, RUSH brethren!!
#117 - Posted 1/12/08 @6:59PM by primemover_3 [contact]

oh, and to the RUSH ladies, too!! :)
#118 - Posted 1/12/08 @7:00PM by Terry [contact]

Hi Primemover_3, I guess you'll be at the Oakland show, then! I intend to be there. The only other non-benefit Bay Area gig of any kind that I have attended was a Ratdog gig at the Fillmore Auditorium on 2/14/07. Great fun! Oh to return to Haight-Ashbury!

It's a shame that I was too young to see Jerry Garcia live.
#119 - Posted 1/12/08 @7:09PM by primemover_3 [contact]

Terry-

I will most definitely be at the Oakland show, barring fatality! Would also like to see them somewhere else this year, just have to wait for the dates so I can plan my vacation time around the shows...

Ah, the Fillmore! Great place to watch a show, what I'd give to see RUSH in a small venue!!

Sounds like you're pretty familiar with the Bay Area, but just in case, be careful in Oakland, I highly recommend staying in SF and catching BART to the show, or any other means of transpo. The train has a stop right in front of the Arena...
#120 - Posted 1/12/08 @7:14PM by Terry [contact]

Thanks for the advice. I was thinking about catching BART. It is nice that the train has a stop in front of the venue. Failing that, I will beg a friend of mine who lives in Oakland to drive me back to Haight Street! I will be staying in Haight-Ashbury.

I am going to try and see Rush in Vegas too.
#121 - Posted 1/12/08 @7:21PM by primemover_3 [contact]

If you have a friend in Oakland, I wouldn't worry too much about anything, then! He'll let you know which areas to stay away from in Oakland. If you're just going there to catch the show, I think everything should be more than fine.

The Haight-Ashbury! Great foliage, eh?!!? :)
#122 - Posted 1/12/08 @7:25PM by Terry [contact]

Haight-Ashbury is a great place, especially for Deadheads! I am hoping that the Bay Area weather will be rather better this May than it was last February when it rained half the time that I was there.
#123 - Posted 1/12/08 @7:36PM by primemover_3 [contact]

Yeah, the weather will be a nice 60-70 degrees F (15-20 celsius) by May, if that's when they're coming... it kind of looks that way, since the June and July shows are around the East Coast... I can't see them planning the tour any other way, but hey, what do I know! :)

It's been nice meeting you, Terry! I'm off to watch the football game! Feel free to contact me about anything, or if you have any questions about the Bay Area!!

Peace and RUSH!!!
#124 - Posted 1/12/08 @7:42PM by Terry [contact]

It has also been nice meeting you. Enjoy the football! I may be in touch... Thanks!

I am now off to bed as it is 00:40 AM

Howdy all. Am pissy as the Seachickens choked up!

If anything.... Hope GB beats whoever they play next weekend!

Hey Prime, u & I caught our first show together! I was 3rd row, dead center 1st night, 2nd I was to the right of the stage!

Spin, #125, don't worry, they'll beat the Giants! :)

We don't have to question about the Super Bowl Champ as it will be Indy again!
#134 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:17PM by cschnebe [contact]

That's too bad about Chicago, the United Center sounds like crap. I had high hopes about the sound at the Sears Centre being halfway decent, but the United Center is a complete echofest.
#135 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:18PM by Spindrifter [contact]

Nec, kewl list..... But, um, err, no Time Stand Still?

Hmm, maybe something for all of us to do to keep our angels busy..... Fav's songs with live as well!

Just a thought!

Heyya Closer!
#136 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:22PM by missionman [contact]

Liver...Understand the words to "Passage to Bangkok?" Smoke a joint!!! It might do ya some some good.
This site aint NOTHING like it was befor the pub burnt down!! ooooooops off topic.

spin- i love "Time stand still",thats my second fav off of hyf!! that's the thing about rush, there are so many great, great songs and my list seems to change alot!! but these are the songs for me that in addition to be excellent songs, they also touched me in some way!! just fun to get peoples feedback!!

fav live songs- i'll be back for that!!lol
#138 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:34PM by closer2heart [contact]

Hey Spin, Necro, Mission

Sounds like nobody's gonna be sleeping much before Monday. It all seems surreal to me!!

Three shows within driving distance
#139 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:34PM by Spindrifter [contact]

BF..... U think the Colts are gonna beat the Bolts?

Missionman, the site is fine and is slowly being restored to what it was before the pub and its ungentle beatings that took place in there. Its less work for Ed to deal with rather than having to worry about a few leaving their joints on the bar top to burn the pub down!

Nec, I fully agree with Mission (love the tune) ... But, thats #2 for me and TSS sits in #1.
#140 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:35PM by Bravest Face

My favorite live songs are whatever the guys decide to play! lol!! But I would love for them to slip in "Working Man," otherwise they can play whatever the hell they want! lol!!
#141 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:36PM by Bravest Face

Spin, the Colts will beat the Bolts and then beat whomever comes out between the Jags and the Patriots, and then the NFC team! I feel very confident! I have to, it's my team and I know they can do it!
#142 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:37PM by Spindrifter [contact]

Closer, if the boys do this a 3rd time to us... I'm gonna move to Eds backyard, pitch a tent and dig a firepit! Lol!
#143 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:40PM by Spindrifter [contact]

BF, Giants vs. Colts? Wouldnt that be something for their Ma n Pa. Half Colts/NJ shirts n hats.

Do they switch sides at the half?

But, we all know that Payton would kick Eli's ass all over the board.... And thats said with no disrespect to Eli!
#144 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:42PM by closer2heart [contact]

too funny

Have fun with your speculations! Whatever they play I'll be happy to rock out to :)

rock on guys!

Spin, I had thought about that one, it would certainly be fun, but I am thinking more of a Packers vs. Colts Super Bowl!

To be honest, I think no matter which AFC team gets there, whether it's my Colts, the Patriots (:p) yuck! or the Jaguars, (I am sorry I give the Chargers no chance! lol!!) they will win it over the NFC team, no matter who it is!
#146 - Posted 1/12/08 @9:59PM by Spindrifter [contact]

AFC game, Hags vs. Colts.

NFC game, Cheese vs JR Ewing and Jessica Simpson sings at the half with a hairball in her throat. um, um, ha. ha!

(sorry that spun it off topic... I just had to!)

ok ok the united center in chicago. bad idea. mainly for the sounds sake. they should either keep the sears place or go back to tinley park.
who cares about what you drive into (slums) to see a show.
its not as bad as you think. but it will be what you make it.
i'm concerned about hearing a great show.
and the united center, isn't the place.
they should go outdoors by the millenium park or something if they want to be in the "city".
either way.
i'm just so glad they are going out for another run.
bless their hearts. :)

CHICAGO fans - - we should have a rush is a band meet & greet in the parking lot. that'd be fun! :)
#154 - Posted 1/12/08 @11:12PM by Rob

I would like to make a return trip to Chicago! Maybe I can get BF to go with me again!!

BTW... Hey Bravest and Necro!
#155 - Posted 1/12/08 @11:18PM by ChicagoJeff [contact]

Meet and Greet sounds cool. I'm in. Millenium Park would be cool but i think it's to small. I think the show at tinley park last year was great. i wish they would go back there
#156 - Posted 1/12/08 @11:27PM by ChicagoJeff [contact]

sorry i was thinking northernly island not millenium park. They would probably never play at either one.

You must have "A Farewell To Kings" in your top 30...

Cygnus X-1 Book II...

In composing a top list of RUSH songs one must look at it the easy way. List the top 10 least favorite songs...if yo can come up with 10..

Re #132, Necro - Surprised not to see The Camera Eye on your list. I'd also have Between the Wheels in there too.

Re #136, Missionman - I understand the words to A Passage to Bangkok thanks :-) The music is enough to 'do me some good'.

The site is exactly like it was before the pub burnt down.

A call for Bravado and Vital Signs. I am still very disappointed that upstate NY does not have a SPAC date. Mohegan Sun here we come!!!!

Does anyone have a info on live bootlegs from the MSG 9-17-07 show?

A better version will become available in the not too distant future.

#171 - Posted 1/13/08 @11:28AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

liver- i know what you are saying,"the camera eye" was a tough one to leave out and just missed the call, but which ones do i replace it with? i was trying to cover and represent each album because i could easily come up with 30 songs just from the first 10 albums or so!! lol as it is,"grace under pressure","power windows","presto",and "roll the bones" were not represented but those are probably my least favorite rush albums(although i still like them..its rush! lol)and "between the wheels" is definitely my favorite song off of gup,but it just doesn't stack up to "xanadu" or any of those songs in my top level of excellence!! the more i think about it though,"the camera eye" does totally take me back to my high school days and i absolutely love it,maybe i need to make a top 35...or 50...or 100...lol !! that's the thing about rush, they have so many frickin great songs!! lol

btw, don't worry about missionman,he was just trying to stir the pot and it didn't work!!
thanks for the heads up on the msg bootlegs,i'll have to check that out!! RUSH ON!!!

I curious to see how acurate ed is this time around. I am glad cincy was added and that they are coming to my home town columbus. Radio city would be nice saw them play there on the R30 tour great show. The set list will be different. My guess circumstances and entre nous will be replaced by fly by night or other older rush songs. One song from presto would be great. Tommorow is the big money.
#173 - Posted 1/13/08 @11:52AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i'd love to see them do "fly by night" !!
#174 - Posted 1/13/08 @12:54PM by geddylee00 [contact]

I can not beleive that they refuse to come to Omaha, NE. They haven't been here since 91. We have a new arena, so what's the problem. They go to KC everytime, and now again on the same tour. Thanks Rush for letting all of your fans down in Nebraska. Why would things change, when it's been this way for 16 years. I haven't yet and I won't drive 2 and half, to 3 hours to see them. Just saying.
#175 - Posted 1/13/08 @1:18PM by Sean [contact]

geddylee00 imagine how people feel in North and South Dakota, Hawaii, Alaska, Alabama, Arkansas,Mississippi, Kentucky, Maine, South Carolina,Vermont and a bunch of other states? There has to be a demand for the band and the money has to be there as well. They can reserve venues in all of those markets but if at the end of the day nobody wants to pay them the price, you are left counting the cost.

Bad pun. Sorry. But they have not gone to a lot of places in decades..you are in good company.
#176 - Posted 1/13/08 @1:36PM by geddylee00 [contact]

Sean, I understand that but why can't they go to a few places every tour, that they haven't been to in years. So they lose money that stop. Don't you think the money can be made up on other stops ? If not for the fans, Rush would not have been around so long. Especially their fan base. You either love them or hate them. It can't be all about the money, it just can't be. They owe it to all of their fans.

I knew you meant Hemispheres. I just love the names of Cygnus X-1 and X-1 Book II. they are awesome.

I would love for RUSH to do another concept album along the lines of Kings, Hemispheres and the great and almighty 2112!

I will be praying tonight that when the announcment comes tomorrow that Indy will be there again. I have access to VIP tix there, and even though last August it was HOT, it was worth every ounce of sweat and beer....

Long live RUSH.

I too will be at the Cincy show..

#174...won't drive 2 1/2 to 3 hours to see Rush?!!!...they can't possibly please everyone and I'm sure all decisions fall more with their management and promoters...on the first leg me and the family drove from Albuquerque to Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver and San Antonio...all to see Rush and it was more then worth the time effort and money...memories like that are priceless...as soon as the dates are official, we will plan again and satisfy our wanderlust to roam, Rush Style!!

trihaswi: a willingness to travel great distances to see The Mighty Trio!
#180 - Posted 1/13/08 @2:43PM by sully_digs [contact]

Sean - I live in Kentucky, grew up in Nashville, and can tell you first hand that there are plenty of RUSH fans everywhere in KY. Why they are leaving out Louisville, Lexington and Nashville is beyond me. Nashville lost Starwood Ampithearter last year in a move by Live Nation (who owned the place) to develop more housing. There are plenty of places to build houses in Davidson county other that where the only outdoor ampitheater was located.

I have been a RUSH fan since 7th grade when a friend turned me onto "All The Worlds A Stage"! After that nothing else compared.
#181 - Posted 1/13/08 @2:46PM by sully_digs [contact]

I read a copy of the new issue of Guitar Player magazine this morning. It ranks the top 100 guitar players of all time. Alex is #96!! WTF!!!! I agree with most of the top 10.

But Alex is in the top 20 with no arguments needed.
#182 - Posted 1/13/08 @2:48PM by Liverpool.78

Re #171 necro - Howdy. Yup, a lot of the songs are about 'the time and the place', others are abut how they make you feel - Red Sector 'A' for example.

Then there is the difficult distinction of "...do I like the studio version, or the live version?" For me, Xanadu E...SL does it every time.

I guess the list would need to be long enough to reflect the whole catalogue, no omissions :-))

Missionman?... plus ca change...

sully- i would absolutely love it if they did another concept album,"snakes and arrows" was closest they have come to what they did in the seventies in a long time!! i'm not sure if they will ever do another"2112",but nothing these guys do anymore surprises me!! the musical journey these guys have taken us on is incredible!!
#184 - Posted 1/13/08 @3:04PM by Liverpool.78

Re #176 geddylee00 - I don't believe Rush owe anything to anybody other than themselves. I think Geddy once said that first and foremost an artist has to do something that is satisfying to himself.

It's not about 'loving or hating' Rush, you either 'get' them, or you don't.

On the other hand, from the management's point of view, it IS all about money.

BACLIRIC - a song and story from a vanished time.

#185 - Posted 1/13/08 @3:06PM by Sean [contact]

It all really started in 1995/96 when then Clear Channel started blocking artists from performing at a percentage of venues that they did not own or have shares in. This brilliant umbrella concept of "hey let's have it all" failed. They figured "well we will own advertising billboards, television stations, radio stations, concert venues, print publications etc..it can't fail! We will be able to push an artist performing at one of our venues on all of those outlets!"

It didn't work out that way and bands were forced to for a very long time skip out on a lot of cities that for years gave them their start. House of Blues got involved with the scheme as well and it became cookie cutter.

Promoters would have to cut deals with Clear Channel to have a band break from the mold to be able to perform at their venue. Rush in the last few years and with Live Nation taking on a life of its own, has been able to branch out of that cycle and plus they are for the first time in a very long time will be performing over 110 shows for a tour.

Also, to hit your point about so what if they lose money at a venue? They can make it up down the road? Not how it works. Rush doesn't lose money in the states. They are paid up front by promoters a hefty sum for each show and then they get their money from merchandise sales. All the while collecting checks from back catalog sales, dvd sales, and other things like radio and video airplay.

Routing is the issue and so is money. If a promoter has had say 12 concerts come through the area over the course of 3 months and only 3 of those broke even it is going to cost them a huge risk to bring a band who has not been tested in that market in over 20 years. They just simply might not be able to afford that risk and play it safe by booking smaller acts or festival bills.

Sure, bringing Rush to Nebraska, Idaho, Kentucky, Arkansas, Alabama was no big issue in the 80s. It was different then. Rush were all traveling by bus and were playing 5 nights a week in a lot of tours. Now, Geddy and Alex travel by personal jet out of a designated hub to 4 shows and then move on to another hub every 4 shows. Neil rides his bike and we know his stories. Behind the scenes it is Peart who controls the routing a lot of times. It comes down to does he ride his bike 300 miles to the next show or 500 miles to the next show? Then for the next show the very next day does he ride 250 miles or 350 miles? 100 miles or 200 miles?

If he rode half of the tour on the same jet as Geddy and Alex the situation would be different. I am almost willing to bet on it. It is amazing that he can still do those miles in the extreme heat, sound check, play for 3 hours, and then sleep on a bus for 5 or 6 hours and do it all over again when he could just take half of the wear off his body and just get on the jet.

liver- i agree with you 100% on "Xanadu" from "exit stage left" !! moving pictures tour was my first concert when i was 15 yrs old and it was basically the same thing as exit stage left tour!! anyways, seeing them perform "xanadu" in person was the moment that rush became my all-time favorite band!! i had liked them since listening to my brothers new copy of "2112" in 1976 when i was just 11,but that performance just blew me away!! their performance of "xanadu" on the "exit stage left" live dvd is one of the magical rush performances of all time,in my opinion!!
