Neil Peart's new MySpace avatar
Posted at 11:04AM | comments (20)

Neil Peart's alter egoIt looks like Neil has altered his MySpace avatar to be his evil baby genius alter ego, Stewie Griffin from Family Guy. There's an interesting story behind this regarding a RIAB reader - JP from Finland. Just after attending the Helsinki show JP relayed this story to me:

... I had made a poster at work with Photoshop, where Stewie is sitting behind Neil's drumkit (as you might remember, Neil has said that the evil genius baby Stewie from "Family Guy" is his alter ego.)

Anyhow, I was holding the poster for Neil to see, when I realized that Neil's riding partner (I guess he was, "the praetorian", the head of security.) was crouching right in front of me. He looked at the poster, nodded in approvement and reached his hand.

I gave it to him, and he disappeared. After a couple of songs, he came back with a pair of drumsticks for me!

Wow! Needless to say, I was blown away (and my friends after the concert were pretty envious!)

Then, after "The way the wind blows" he was back, with a piece of paper. He had written an email address there, and wanted me to send the original digital picture. No worries, when I get back to work tomorrow, I'll send the pic for him. ...

So JP sent the pic ... and Neil's putting it to use. Very cool. :)

You mean Neil's always had a Freudian obsession with killing his mother? Yikes!! ;)

A very good story.

A great story, and I don't mean to be a jerk about this, or try and put this poster down, which I think is amazing, but I just happened to notice one of Neil's actual hands in the photo. Sorry if I ruined this for anyone, but I couldn't help but notice the hand.

Wow, now that you mention it, I see it too. Didn't see it when I made the pic. Man, now it's really starting to bother me.. It would be easily fixed, but I guess it's too late now.
Oh well. Thanks for the congrats though, I feel like I won the Nobel prize or something!

JP, are you kidding me....let me put this back in perspective...uh, Neil Peart is using your picture on his myspace....LOL

that rocks!
#13 - Posted 11/7/07 @4:42PM by jp [contact]

Yeah, It's nothing in the grand scheme of things. But I've been getting these congrats like I had won the Nobel prize or something.. And it's just a picture on a drummer's myspace page! Weird.
Still, I'm proud of this whole deal. (I have to fix that pic somehow, or it's going to haunt me!)
#14 - Posted 11/7/07 @5:04PM by Dirk [contact]

I'm sorry jp, if you want, I'll punch myself for you. And as far as comparing this to the Nobel prize, I bet it's a safe bet to assume that more people will see this picture than can actually tell you who won this year's Nobel prizes.

Hey... Good for you! Pic is great (regardless of the hand). I had gotten a set of sticks at the PNC show (due to a shirt i was wearing) and man, oh, man... what a surprise it was (i'm sure you can relate)! Rather get a set of sticks then a Nobel myself!

:)

I see Neils real hand...But, if you notice one of Stewies hands is partially blocked by a cymbal...so there are actually only two hands on Neil...they are both left hands but hey at least it's no two left feet....or maybe Neil is like that octopus kid that just had it's extra arms and legs removed....maybe that's why he plays soooo good.

That is too fucking funny! JP ROCKS

I always assumed Neil only had a big head metaphorically! ;-)

damn now i need a new idea to get my pair of sticks hahaha! Congrats JP. In my opinion and im sure in everyone elses as well that getting a pair of Neil Peart drumsticks from the professor himself is better than winning the Nobel Prize. to hell with Al Gore and his stupid medal...good grab bro!!
