First in! Tampa Rocked Enjoy All
#2 - Posted 6/18/07 @2:47PM by pinkfloyd2000 [contact]

The setlist looks pretty good so far -- but does anyone else think that it needs a little something extra? A little extra "oomph," for want of a better word?

"Between The Wheels," sure, terrific song...but they've done that one already recently from GuP. How about another relic from that album?

Also, I'm not so sure it's the best move to play 5 new songs in a row in the second set. I'd break them up a little, and maybe scale back the S&A material. Yeah, I know, it's good stuff...but I'd rather hear "Middletown Dreams" than "Workin' Them Angels," ya know what I mean? Nine songs is a tad excessive from a new album. I guess I admire them for doing it, though. They are obviously proud of S&A, and should be, but I just think that the setlist could streamline a bit of the new material and add some other choice relics to give the setlist a bit of added kick. Just my opinion. Whatever they decide to do, I'll love seeing it live.
#3 - Posted 6/18/07 @2:58PM by flarushfan [contact]

THe new material is incredible, like it was written for the stage. The set list flows great and you should have a great time. Ear candy and eye candy, so just sit back have a beer and enjoy! The tour book is a piece of work as always!

the body electric!
#5 - Posted 6/18/07 @3:16PM by wolfpacker [contact]

pinkfloyd, why are you discussing the setlist for a show that hasn't happened yet? This is the Charlotte thread. Some people going to Charlotte have purposely avoided spoilers (until now I guess).
#6 - Posted 6/18/07 @3:28PM by pinkfloyd2000 [contact]

Eh, sorry...I figured most people here knew the setlist already, I guess. My bad. I didn't give all that much away, though.
#7 - Posted 6/18/07 @3:31PM by Oracle [contact]

Like a rare and precious metal
Beneath a ton of rock
It takes some time and trouble
To separate from the stock
You sometimes have to listen to
A lot of useless talk
#8 - Posted 6/18/07 @3:33PM by Liverpool.78

Pinkfloyd, Sounds like you are going to be a little disappointed at hearing what the band have chosen to play for you. Your suggestion is a bit like not wanting Pink Floyd to play the whole of DSOTM in one go, but to give it some 'oomph' in the middle by playing Run Like Hell Maybe you should pass your tickets on to someone else :-)

Enjoy the show!

Liver.
#9 - Posted 6/18/07 @3:33PM by Pwrgirl [contact]

The amount of new material that they play is actually really cool! It's a good sign when after hearing them live, you want to listen to the CD over and over again...because now you've had a different experience with that material. If that makes sense. For instance, my son hardly ever listened to the new stuff, until he saw them playing it LIVE. Now he plays S & A all the time.

Enjoy the show guys!

Tim, BF, and anyone else heading to Charlotte tonight...
ENJOY!!! (not that you need to be told)

UUTHAWAK - uber-hip slang for telling someone that they are cool
#11 - Posted 6/18/07 @3:42PM by pinkfloyd2000 [contact]

Liver, you completely misunderstand me....I'm not going to be disappointed. I love S&A, don't get me wrong. It's just that I think 9 songs is a tad too excessive from a band's new album, that's all. Your comparison to DSOTM is kinda weak, too -- it's not like S&A is a one-movement concept album.

I don't see it either as "what the band has chosen to play for me." It's THEIR setlist. Yeah, I do get that! Pass my tickets to someone else? Heh. Hardly. I will enjoy the show. Thanks. ;-)
#12 - Posted 6/18/07 @3:57PM by Spartan117 [contact]

Pink,
I went to the Tampa show and you will not be disappointed by all the S&A. It is much better live. The songs that they selected translate very well in a big setting. Just enjoy. I would not change a song that they are playing. I am telling you, the Tampa show the boys were in the grove. During Neil's solo he was on the big screen during this one part (I do not want to give it away) and you could tell that he was getting into it. You could just tell with the body movement and eyes closed. Bring your chicken.
#13 - Posted 6/18/07 @4:01PM by timestandsstill

You guys still haven't gotten it yet!?
True Rush fans, and I am not saying you're not, really get into all the symbolism that Rush has to offer. You need to look past the "setlist" and really wonder why they picked those songs in that order. Also there is something very interesting about that shirt Geddy wears in the second set.

I have been listening to Rush since A farewell to Kings which is a parallel to Snakes and Arrows. The organic music sound and the brevity of the words. I dare you to pull out all the songs in the setlist, read, READ, the words of the songs and see what you get. Then and only then will you understand why RUSH played songs like the 2nd song in the first set.

Really people, pick it up, pick it up. We owe it to RUSH.
Peace

Those who are going to the Charlotte show tonight...I'll be calling Aaron (Bravest Face) around 6pm to meet up with him and whoever else he's meeting. I am looking forward to putting some faces with posters here. I think my son (16) is more excited than I am! We have great seats (Premier Level, Section 5, Row H, Seats 4 & 5). Whoooo!!!! My favorite band since the mid-seventies is gonna rock Charlotte!!

JB...woooooooohoooooooo....have a grand show...enjoy the time with your boy...be safe...pay attention...we're waiting for your reeeepooooort!!!

Good on ya!!!!

Because he was human
Because he had goodness
Because he was moral
They called him insane

Delusions of grandeur
Visions of splendour
A manic depressive
He walks in the rain

Eyes wide open
Heart undefended
Innocence untarnished
#19 - Posted 6/18/07 @4:25PM by dinoman [contact]

timestandsstill, as a "unspoiled" poster, your comments REALLY make me eager for my show on Friday. I will be paying attention to each and every word of each and every song. Thanks!
#20 - Posted 6/18/07 @4:45PM by debbie [contact]

Have a great time, Aaron (and others!) :) I'll be thinking about you and wishing I was there.

(Hey, Liver ;) good to see you again!)

dinoman, I envy you if you can actually pay attention to everything like that. I get so swept away by the whole "package" I can't pay attention to all the songs like that. All of you that do that, it's amazing to me. I just usually stare with my mouth open and watch in amazement the whole show. *laugh*
#21 - Posted 6/18/07 @4:46PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

Buenas Threadus!
#22 - Posted 6/18/07 @5:01PM by dinoman [contact]

debbie, hopefully I'll be able to. it's not easy. But you know when your at home (or wherever; my favorite spot is at home) and your cranking some favorite music and sometimes you just get so into it that the words are really speaking to you (sometimes to the point of finally opening your eyes to a song and going "holy s**t! I get it! What a great f'ingsong!!!", the music is really driving you and you're singing along and just REALLY feeling it? If that happens during a show, that's my favorite way of enjoying a concert. All the sights just really add to that (although sometimes they distract). Unfortunately, I find it impossible to MAKE that happen. The groove will happen as it happens, and they key is to be open and enjoy it. No expectations.
#23 - Posted 6/18/07 @5:15PM by AFarCryfromFBN [contact]

#13 timestandsstill: Love your advice and I will accept your challenge - After I see them Friday in Virginia Beach. I really enjoy their symbolism and hidden meanings within songs, albums, and even shows.

I have tried very hard to stay in the loop as far as how people feel about the show without learning too much of the setlist. I must admit I know some of it (a small part actually) but look forward to being surprised overall on Friday.

After the show I will take the setlist and the lyrics, draw my own conclusions as to the symbolisms and hidden meanings, and let you know what I come up with.

Have you already seen one of the shows this tour, or are you just working with the posted set list?
#24 - Posted 6/18/07 @5:15PM by SnowDoggy [contact]

I hear ya Pink..I'm as big a Rush Nerd as there is, and I'm not crazy about the setlists either.

9 songs from S&A *IS* too much. No way to sugarcoat it.

We became fans because of songs like "Fly by Night" and "In the End". Hearing those songs with modern sound systems and equipment would be incredible.

And leaving both "2112" & "Closer to the Heart" out of the show is a minor tragedy. I actually feel bad for the folks who are seeing them for the one and only this time around.
They'll never know what they missed.
#25 - Posted 6/18/07 @5:22PM by Fiat [contact]

The only "problems" I see in the list are One Little Vic and Summertime. The rest are cool with me.
#26 - Posted 6/18/07 @5:44PM by Dave [contact]

There's nothing to sugarcoat SnowDoggy. 9 songs from Snakes and Arrows? Well, that makes 9 songs I've never seen live and I've seen them over 40 times. The setlist is great. Get over it. Sure there's other songs I'd love to hear from the 80's like Afterimage or Grand Designs but this is 2007. They've got a new record that they are obviously very proud of. We should all be excited instead of nit picking these guys.
#27 - Posted 6/18/07 @5:48PM by wolfpacker [contact]

I've seen Rush twenty-some times on 9 tours and I've got a large collection of shows from about every tour. I, for one, welcome as much new stuff played live each tour as possible. There were a lot of songs off VT that I wish they'd played. There are a ton of songs that they've never played live that I've always wondered how it would sound in concert. Rush isn't some Greatest Hits band touring on their past success. They continue to put out incredible music and have an extremely loyal set of fans who welcome and look forward to every new album.

here, here, wolfpacker!
#29 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:15PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

Look, not to sound cocky.....but I've seen them 39 times since 81(42 by then of this tour) and not one show did they not give 1000%! People need not be co critical. It's not The Rush Request Tour! Have patience. I don't see why everybody's like" oh, man they played this ,instead of that" or"God, I hate this song". Shit-be happy they're still together. I grew up on Led Zep,Halen,Yes,Stevie Ray,and Bob Marley. As far as I can recall, none of them are touring this year! WE ARE TRULY BLESSED! Appareciate what you have a chance to experience. Lifechanging! Absalom, Absalom, Absalom.
#30 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:18PM by max o'webster [contact]

here, here, kenster2112@sbcglobal.net!
#31 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:21PM by 1-2-bucklemyshoe [contact]

I personally think it's great that they are doing 9 songs from S&A (don't forget that 2 of them clock in at just over 2 min.!). If 2112 or Closer to the Heart are dropped, I have no problem with that either: I love those songs, but I don't need to hear them today. I have multiple live versions of those songs that I can listen to.

Maybe they'll do all of 2112 on their R40 tour, but maybe they won't have room for it because they will put out 3 more great albums between now and then.
#32 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:23PM by pinkfloyd2000 [contact]

Some of you are taking some VERY MINOR quips with the setlist and equating that with disappointment and bitching and moaning. If I came across like that in my first post, sorry...but I don't think I did. I believe (without looking) I ended it with something to the effect of "I'll be happy with whatever they decide to play on the night I see them."

To reiterate: I think S&A is fantastic, and in the vote a while back, I said it was the best Rush album since Power Windows.

I'm sure we will see some minor setlist adjustments as the tour goes on -- as is always the case with Rush. Perhaps a different S&A tune will be rotated in, or perhaps another "nugget" will replace some other nugget.

Love and peace, all. :-)
#33 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:24PM by thick_like_wal [contact]

"Summertime Blues" is one track that I wouldn't miss on this tour. Rush has plenty of "feel good" summer hits, such as Lakeside Park and "Making Memories"

"Making Memories" would be incredible -- apparently Rush isn't going to play an "acoustic" set on this tour? Wall-to-Wall electric songs can give a headache methinks.
#34 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:26PM by max o'webster [contact]

I love old Rush of course. For me I would have loved a little something from Caress. Im not too disappointed about no 2112 because I've never seen Natural Science live. I was lucky enough to see Camera Eye on signals which I know was on a lot of peoples wishlist. Im very excited. I haven't missed Rush since 1983 (in the UK) but there are a lot of songs I've never seen live.

Well done Rush .... If they could play 7 or 8 tracks from my favourite headache then Mohammed would be on top of a mountain and dubbya would be pointing missles at it.
#35 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:27PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

Is here here a positive response Max o'webster?

It certainly is!
#37 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:31PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

I think I'm Going Bald and The Fountain of Lamneth would sooooth me!My Favorite Headache" should've had a tour of it's own. great music! WAAAAAAAAYYYYY different from Alex's
"Victor"
#38 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:32PM by Prince Sphinc-Tor

#32

I agree about the minor issue thing....Just because people are saying "I wish I could hear this", or "I wish they played that", "maybe play something else" does not mean we hate the band, or we think they suck, or we thought the show sucked, or we are disappointed in the whole show...it's just people expressing an opinion on an something they have experienced.

Everyone needs to chill out...we don't need another witch hunt like when EVERYONE spazzed the hell out when the CD was leaked and people actually listened to it.
#39 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:37PM by max o'webster [contact]

Personally I'm thrilled they will be in the UK again. I don't mind admitting that on their last date in Birmingham I shed a little tear convinced that would be that. I trying to talk the wife into a whistlestop tour of Milan! Rush in Italy would really be something!
#40 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:38PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

I hear ya Prince. I'm a 40 year old fart. Think before you hit send Ken (my inside voice). Think. Imagine if this we're Ratt instead of Rush. Then I'd definitely be in need of psychotherapy! Just mentioning the word in the same paragraph was wrong .I do Apologize for bringing Ratt up on a Rush site!

.
#41 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:40PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

Shoot, Ratt on a Rush site. I'm truly, truly, sorry. Began with R, had four letters, ahhhhh........forget it. sorry.
#42 - Posted 6/18/07 @6:41PM by Liverpool.78

Re #11 - Well yeah obviously S&A isn't one conceptual piece, although it does have a theme. Isn't there enough 'oomph' in the new material for them to play the songs consecutively? Having listened to all the interviews the band sounds really charged up and proud of the new stuff and wants to show it off. I haven't known them play so much of a new album on a tour since the heady days of AFTK and Hemispheres when I saw every song run up the flagpole. By heck! those were the days. :-))

Re #13 Holy F@@K!! I've been listening to Rush for over thirty years without realizing that there was some subliminal messaging going on. I hadn't twigged that we were being fed a doctrine, I just thought they were mixing it up a bit, trying to please everyone, varying the old songs, blasting out the new songs and acknowledging Big Al's dislike of playing two songs one after the other in the same key :-))

I just like the noise they make.

Liver.

Max - At Chester Zoo yesterday pushing the wheel chair around. You should bring the kids back to see the new Orang Utang complex. £3.5 million of wonderfulness. The apes don't hide under their bits of old sack looking depressed any more..and now that the keepers are piping S&A to them through the Musak system they're rolling spliffs in banana leaves like they've done it all their lives!

Fire it up #29! Just go see them, have a beer or what ever you like to substitute, shake hands or hug a friend, laugh out loud, enjoy the music it will not be here for ever! Seems pretty simple to me!
#59 - Posted 6/18/07 @10:49PM by steve k

Even though I'm not going to see them until the 27th of this month (Mansfield, MA)I did want to say that I think it's a very brave approach that they are taking. I'm glad they've re-shaped the set-list to make it not only interesting for themselves (they after all have to PLAY these tunes)but also for people like me who have seen them since 1982 without missing a tour. While I love the energy of 'Syrinx', I'm glad to see it left on the shelf for a tour in favor of other tunes that haven't been played in some cases ever. Rush has mostly always had a very good balance of old and new and hasn't stopped with this tour. It's only a bit different and sometimes different is good.

Ehjoy!!
#60 - Posted 6/18/07 @10:57PM by Wilb [contact]

Still good to hear limelight ... though
#61 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:07PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

And to see that black Rickenbacker 4001! Where are the Kimonos? NOT complaining, just wondering? "the more that things change, the more they stay the same!"
#62 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:19PM by Wilb [contact]

Today, kimonos are usually worn only on special occasions, and mostly by women. A few older women and even fewer men still wear kimonos on a daily basis. Men wear kimonos most often at weddings and for the tea ceremony. Kimonos are also worn by both men and women in certain sports, such as kendo. Professional sumo wrestlers frequently wear kimonos because they are required to wear traditional Japanese dress whenever appearing in public outside the ring.
#63 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:25PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

Rush jamming Cicumstances is definitely a "special occasion" It sure would be better than seeing Alex in a Kilt. Ugh. My eyes just vomited from that thought. Sorry for the visual, folks.

#66 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:29PM by Wilb [contact]

4001 - Rickenbacker's most popular bass guitar. Famous players include Cliff Burton (Metallica), Ian "Lemmy" Kilmister (Motörhead), Geddy Lee (Rush), Paul McCartney (The Beatles/Wings/solo), Jerry Only (The Misfits), and Chris Squire (Yes).
#67 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:32PM by Wilb [contact]

4003 - Visibly similar, but actually an updated version of the 4001, with different truss rods, and no "skunk-stripe"
#68 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:36PM by Nettie [contact]

I am probably the only person in here who just can NOT stand 2112 beyond the overture. I'm glad that they left it out this time. But now I will have to pick another song to skip so I can run for the restroom. Oh wait, I'm a girl, there won't be a line Hee hee!
#69 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:36PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

RobertPlants bass player(son in law) uses a Rick 4001 also. Are they heavy? They look it.

i've read a lot of comments about people thinking they're playing too much from S & A... all i can say to that is... wait until you see the show. i know some of you have seen it and still didn't like that aspect, but honestly, the new songs sound absolutely exquisite live.

granted, the atlanta show was my first rush concert ever, so i may not be the best judge of all this, but i really could've listened to them play the entire album--it sounded so good.

just my opinion...

a while back we were talking about hoping for a loud and edgy show... the second set delivers loud and edgy with a vengeance.
#74 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:49PM by Wilb [contact]

I have to wait until October :( ... But it should be all ironed out by then
#75 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:52PM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

By October Wilb- you could be hearing songs from their next album!

Maybe they'll come through here again on the second leg..., and then we'll hear a different set:).
#79 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:54PM by Wilb [contact]

Or by the time they get here... they will be over 60 years old
#80 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:56PM by Nettie [contact]

they aren't that far off.......
#81 - Posted 6/18/07 @11:56PM by Wilb [contact]

Maybe they have a more Europe friendly setlist ... ?

older stuff maybe? I thought that Neil wrote in Roadshow that Geddy wanted to make some changes for the European leg and Neil vetoed it.
#83 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:01AM by Wilb [contact]

I'll keep you posted ... when it eventually gets here :)
#84 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:03AM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

They always plat the abstract, cool stuff overseas.Cygnus X-l (complete), The Necromancer, The Fountain Of Lamneth. They luck out sometimes being at the end of the tour.
#85 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:03AM by analogkid85 [contact]

All in all, it's amazing that Rush even plays for 3 hours live in concert. How many other concerts have you been to that you can say that about? :)
#86 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:03AM by Nettie [contact]

I would think that they would change a few songs in September or before that, especially if Alex is still having guitar tech trouble.
#87 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:05AM by Nettie [contact]

Aging stars don't usually play that long. I saw Rod Stewart earlier this year. He didn't play more than 2 hours.
#88 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:07AM by Nettie [contact]

Rush is the best band that I've ever seen, and I've seen every tour since p/g. They rock, and always give 100%, or more!
#89 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:09AM by Nettie [contact]

Goodnight guys.
#90 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:10AM by Wilb [contact]

Rod Stewart ... Hot legs and Do you think i'm sexy ...classic song titles ;)
#91 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:11AM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

Rod Stewart can't stand for more than two hours! Let alone perform. No offense, very talented musician, but went through a rougher, tougher rock era in Europe. Lots of "Using".
#92 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:11AM by Wilb [contact]

Just got home from the Charlotte show. It was absolutely fantastic. I'm tired and have to work tomorrow....review in the morning. All I'll say for now is that it far exceeded expectations. Met Bravest Face and Malner as well as a number of other Rush fans. My son was really impressed with the friendliness of everyone. I told him, "that's Rush fans for ya." It was a night to remember.
#96 - Posted 6/19/07 @1:09AM by permanentsignals [contact]

I for one am very happy about them playing 9 songs from snakes and arrows. I could do without Secret Touch, I kind of wonder why they don't play the title track from vapor Trails, I personally like that song a lot more than Secret touch and one little victory. But I'm just happier than shit that their still giving us great shows and new albums
I've seen them every tour since Hemispheres multiple times
and can't wait to see them this tour. By the way I saw them 8th row center on the Hemispheres tour the ticket cost $8.50 does that not make you sick ?
#97 - Posted 6/19/07 @1:13AM by timintey [contact]

Charlotte show rocked.
#98 - Posted 6/19/07 @1:21AM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

G'night Wilb and jbf,ps,tt, that's for your reviews.Been waiting for some-thing but my eyelids are getting heavy. Thanks, you guys. Now"to sleep perchance to dream" Unless someone quickly wants to review it;I'll wait. "Wilb......you still up for this?"
#99 - Posted 6/19/07 @1:34AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

im listening to the setlist and im surprised how little love "secret touch" gets, i think its a pretty good song and apparently the guys must like playing it.
#100 - Posted 6/19/07 @1:35AM by Scotto [contact]

Alex: O.k. guys time to pick the set list for the new tour.
Geddy: What do we take from Rush 1?
Neil: How about zero songs, I wasn't even in the band yet.
Alex: O.k. no songs from Rush 1!
Neil: What about Fly By Night?
Geddy: My throat hurts just thinking about singing any song from Fly By Night.
Alex: O.k. no songs from Fly By Night, what about from Caress of Steel.
Neil: What the hell were we on when we made that album?
Geddy: Something good for sure, but let's not play any songs this tour.
Alex: O.k. no songs from Caress of Steel.
Neil: I really like the work we did on the new alblum, what do you guys think, should we play every song.
Geddy: I don't see why not, it's just about our best 60 minutes of music ever!
Alex: How about 9 songs from Snakes & Arrows, I think our fans would enjoy that!!!!!!!!!!
Neil: I concur!!!
Geddy: I agree, 9 it is!!!!!

too much dish network! sorry, I'm venting. But boy, that Apollo took some beatin',huh? Anyone see the new one and can describe it in one sentence? So, as not to waste valuable Rush space.
#106 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:01AM by Oracle [contact]

If they only fahted in my general direction it would be fine...thank god they are playing some songs instead.

If they want to play it...I want to hear it.

yeah, kenster. ive noticed that alot of people have been coming back with negativity regarding secret touch, which is cool. its just that i dont understand it either, i also think its one of the better tunes on vt,maybe it doesnt translate well live, although i thought it was good on rush in rio. just wondering.
#109 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:18AM by kenster2112@sbcglobal.net [contact]

I really liked Peaceable Kingdom ,too. Also enderrated if not forgotten.
#110 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:18AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

are they still doing the opening to limelight the same way?
#111 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:20AM by permanentsignals [contact]

Am I the only person that thinks the song Vapor Trail is a great song ?
#112 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:25AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i agree permanentsignals,i like the song vapor trails alot.
#113 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:33AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i think vapor trails is a good album, even with some of the sound problems.
#114 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:34AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i liked it better than test for echo and even counterparts.
#115 - Posted 6/19/07 @2:44AM by permanentsignals [contact]

Tomorrow night in Raleigh, I can't wait. All seats are sold
out, but I believe the lawn and outside of the canopy are
still available. To my knowledge its been decades since Rush
has played interior NC. Only Charlotte in recent years.
#124 - Posted 6/19/07 @8:02AM by Syrinx2112

Well, I was at last night's Charlotte show. Let me just say this. OH MY GOD!!!! These gents are truly amazing. I have seen every tour since 2112 and they just keep getting better. This may have been their best and tightest performance I have seen. You could tell they were into it as was the audience. The new material sounded awesome live, especially Far Cry, The Larger Bowl and Armor and Sword. Entre Nous was awesome, ditto Digital Man. Heck, I even liked Summertime Blues (although I would have preferred another Rush song, maybe Temples, Earthshine, Trees). But hey, don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. These guys still bring it, better than anyone. THE GREATEST ROCK BAND, scratch that, THE GREATEST ENTERTAINMENT ACT...EVER!!! ROCK ON R-U-S-H !!!!!

Saw the Boys last night in Charlotte. 7th time since 1978, and its hard to imaging they can do what they do. To summarize the evening:

Dinner before the show $60.

3 Tickets $300

Hearing my 14 year old son say Wow! Wow! during Neal's Drum Solo Priceless!
#130 - Posted 6/19/07 @9:09AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

very cool, moss !!! did they solve the tech problem at beginning of between the wheels?did they still do the delayed start in limelight? does alex stand or sit during hope?

my thoughts exactly malignant lol
#134 - Posted 6/19/07 @9:56AM by wolfpacker [contact]

Wanted to respond to a couple of things above:

1) Set list changes - Geddy wanted to add CttH for Europe, and Neil said basically "fine, what do want to drop". Ged didn't want to drop anything. That was the end of it. (per Roadshow). Back on (iirc) they added Analog Kid and Trees on the second leg. Don't remember if they dropped anything.

2) Raleigh show - it is true that they have played Charlotte far for often than other places in NC. BUT, on the VT tour they played Raleigh. Show was on the 4th of July. Hot as Hades, but one of the best shows I've been to.

ive just decided that in addition to my home show(detroit), im going to go to the cincy show to meet up with bravest face and whoever else is there. gotta put some faces to these posts. i think all they have left is lawn seats though, oh well.
#142 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:13AM by raleighpackfan [contact]

Regarding NC shows, as someone already mentioned Rush played Raleigh on the VT tour and they also played Chapel Hill on the Counterparts tour.
#143 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:17AM by raleighpackfan [contact]

someone mentioned earlier that all seats are sold out in Raleigh...actually the seats are not sold out, they have a few gold circle seats available and some further back.
#144 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:19AM by moss92g [contact]

To answer necromancer:

I think they still have a little hitch with the opening of Limelight, but it doesnt realy detract from anything.

I didn't notice any problems in between the wheels.

Alex played Hope standing up. My son's response after watching Neal and Alex's solos

"There are no words to describe them".
#145 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:24AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

your son is absolutely correct, moss !! glad to hear they got btw straightened out, and i bet alex didnt even fire his tech ! lol i could see why alex would get pissed when that shit happened, but he is a prettyu cool and fair guy and they probably made ther corrections and moved on.
#146 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:28AM by moss92g [contact]

General comments about the show. The set list is good works realy well. One downside from the Charlotte amphitheater is that the sun is shining in on them when they open, and you don't really get the feel of the show until the 2nd set list after the sun goes down.

Circumstances was awsome. Entre Nous a very nice touch.

Far Cry is fantatstic live, I knew it would be after I listed to it a few times. Ditto for The Way The Wind Blows. I didn't care for the Larger Bowl that much myself, but that's just my opinion.

The instrumentals were all excellent.

The Sprit of Radio.... Totaly Awsome
Tom Sawyer... Ditto, but I think Alex really enjoyed playing it last night.
Subdivisions... Awsome.

For an almost 3 hours show, it was pretty flawless. There were some problems on one of the songs were Geddy's synth didn't sound quite right at times, but you have to really be picky to complain about it.

Lets face it, they are the best ever and its a priviledge to get to see them at this point. I wonder how much more they have left in the tank. I'd still like to see them one more time down the road.
#147 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:33AM by Oracle [contact]

Hey Necro...I'm pretty sure I'm going to the Cincy show as well and there are still tix around if you feel like coughing up the extra scratch to sit in the seats.
#148 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:36AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

moss, this maybe just wishful thinking on my part, but i still think they will have a few more tours in them and maybe a couple more albums at least.i think they will finish this tour and then come out with another album late 2009(followed by tour of course.)then there is the yr 2012, which i think will produce a huge tour, then two yrs later(2014)will be there r40 tour. that would bring them to their 60's, may be a good time to ride off into the sunset. maybe i should become their manager, i have their next seven yrs planned out.lol
#149 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:37AM by wolfpacker [contact]

"Regarding NC shows, as someone already mentioned Rush played Raleigh on the VT tour and they also played Chapel Hill on the Counterparts tour."

Yeah, if you go back over a decade you have the Chapel Hill shows (RTB with Primus as opener, CP with Candlebox) and the Hold Your Fire show at Reynolds (Tommy Shaw opened) on the campus of the NC State Wolfpack. I was front row at that one, right in front of Geddy.
#150 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:38AM by Oracle [contact]

Just checked with FedEX and my vinyl of S&A is on the truck to be delivered this morning!

Cannot wait to have the big artwork for this album!!! Gonna lay it on a non-Rush fan...try to school 'em. They went and saw Tool a couple of days ago and so it likely will have no affect on them. Bunch of egomaniacs.
#151 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:40AM by Oracle [contact]

I think the reason we haven't heard from BF yet is that he is mobile this morning...driving back home from the show...he won't be back on page until tonight.
#152 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:42AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

very cool oracle, but i think the lawn maybe the only thing i can afford anyway.seeing them on the 28th here in detroit, the cincy show would just be too get a second listen to them and hook up with our fellow rush maniacs from this site, i think that would be real fun to experience a rush show with people that are as fanatical and knowledgeable as myself about the best band in the world!!its a little last minute for me, so lawn will have to do. bravest face mentioned hooking up before the cincy show, sound good to you? are you seeing any other shows?
#153 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:50AM by raleighpackfan [contact]

good memory on the Reynolds Coliseum show...i wasn't going back that far, but since you mentioned it...i was in front too...that was my freshman year at State...staying in Bragaw dorm. They had a laser curtain effect across the front of the stage...Do you remember who the opener was supposed to be?? Great White. But they canceled last minute...I was in the bathroom when all of a sudden the opening chords of Blue Collar Man cranked up...awesome.
#154 - Posted 6/19/07 @10:57AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

am i the only one who thinks "one little victory" is a good song? i commented earlier that i thought that "secret touch" was a good tune but it always seems to get dissed.same with olv, i think their is a bias against anything from vapor trails because of what people( including the band) view as inferior sound production.all that being said, i think there are some good tunes on that record, in my humble opinion it is their SECOND best album since "signals". do the songs not translate well live? just wondering.
#155 - Posted 6/19/07 @11:00AM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

their BEST album since signals being "snakes and arrows"( actually i move it ahead of signals and rate "snakes" as their best since "moving pictures")
#156 - Posted 6/19/07 @11:11AM by Lamb Saag [contact]

Hi Necro,

I was thinking same thing for Cincy. Lawn tix are plentiful, pavilion seats are available too for the same price as a monthly mortgage payment.

Oracle, did you bite the bullet yet on pavillion tix?

Well folks, the Charlotte show was as flawless a show as I've ever seen. No more BTW problem! In fact, that was the best I've ever heard them do BTW. THEY WERE ON THEIR GAME LAST NIGHT. Geddy's vocals were stunning. He nailed the high parts in Freewill. His voice was great all night. One of the first things my son said when we sat down was, "Dad, look how many Jazz basses Geddy has on that stand down there!" It looked to me like there were at least five Fender Jazz and the Rick. Alex had no guitar problems at all from what I could tell. Neil was completely in the groove. Damn I love that new drum kit. The drum solo was a bit shorter but had some really fresh elements. It blew my son away, that's for sure! It's hard to describe the euphorea I experienced when they came out with Limelight. As many times as I've heard it I wasn't expecting it to hit me so hard...but it did. Chill bumps baby! Entre Nous has always been a favorite of mine and it sounded spectacular. My favorites of the night were Natural Science (they kicked major ass on it), Entre Nous, Witch Hunt, The Way the Wind Blows, Spindrift and Far Cry and my son's favorites were Armor and Sword, Spindrift, Natural Science and Freewill. It was a treat to see the Rick again on PTB. Bravest Face and MalNar, it was great to meet you guys. We met so many friendly and cool Rush fans. Something else - I was really proud of my hometown last night. Geddy was obviously very pleased with the enthusiasm of the crowd. One of the Verizon gaurds told me that he couldn't remember ever hearing such crowd enthusiasm as he heard last night. A FANTASTIC SHOW ALL THE WAY AROUND!!RUSH CONTINUES TO RULE!!!!!!!

#163 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:18PM by Spindrifter [contact]

Umm, whats Lamb doing in the family room?

jb, great review!

Deb, 2 months for you... But, 31 days for me! Ugh, think of Max and Liver. But, think of those in Scotland and Finland.... And the wait seems so freaking long for us here on this side of the pond.

Kenster....... My advice, sue em! Sue all of the bastards!
#167 - Posted 6/19/07 @12:58PM by SnowDoggy [contact]

Good job Rush.

Alternate "DEW" with "Summertime Blues" once in a while.

You see? Was that so hard?

Amazes me that they don't do this more often. Wouldn't you guys be bored to tears playing the same songs night after night after night??

Next alternate tune?
ANYTHING from Presto! This album is always overlooked. They only played "The Pass" on VT, and totally ignored it on R30. That's not enough.

Presto is always the album I recommend to non-Rush fans to try to bring them into the fold. My personal favorite.
#168 - Posted 6/19/07 @1:52PM by Oracle [contact]

#'s 152 and 156...Necro and Lamb...I'm still holding out on the Cincy tix...waiting for the prices to stabilize a bit. Likely though that I will opt for the freedom and the less expensive lawn...I want to get a seat but I just slammed down more than I will admit here for second row in St. Louis and I am going to take my daughter to the Milwaukee show...so I'm looking for a halfway decent ticket there. Besides...we could all hang out at Cincy if we get the lawn deal...would be fun as long as we agree to alternate on paying for beers...heh.

This touring thing with the gas prices and t shirt inflation is going to set me back a bunch.

Three shows in a two week period in August/September...got to save some of that green up so I don't end up walking back from Milwaukee.
#169 - Posted 6/19/07 @3:19PM by Makalu [contact]

Between the Wheels guitar problem finally fixed!...Alex gave a big smile to his tech, who was giving an enthusiastic thumbs up on the side of the stage!

Whoever designed the layout of this ampitheater blew it big time...the band is basically staring right into the sun at sunset...

of 3 shows seen thus far, this one sounded best...but I have to say that by far, the best time and fans were in West Palm...don't get me wrong, most Rush fans are cool...I'm just saying that the West Palm crowd was exceptional
#170 - Posted 6/19/07 @4:07PM by debbie [contact]

tg, come to St. Louis a couple days before your Indy show! LOL

Glad the guitar problems appear to be fixed. I wouldn't want to see an unhappy Alex (in 2 months! *laugh*)
#171 - Posted 6/19/07 @4:45PM by necromancer 2112 [contact]

i cant believe im going to go see them twice now, my hometown(detroit)and cincy 4 days later. this truly is the summer of RUSH!!!
#172 - Posted 6/19/07 @4:45PM by Ricbass4003 [contact]

Couple comments:
Why if a ticket agnency sells tix for loads of money is it okay but if you sell them for same it is scalping and illegal? Seems wrong.

Is anyone sure of the model Ricky that ged plays during Bangkok. To me it looks like a 4003. I know he owns both 4001 and 4003.

I like the looks of the set list. I like that it is different from the same sort of list they have been having. I am thrilled to be hearing circumstances and entre nous. I sort of agree about summer time blues that it could be replaced but for some reason the guys picked these songs for a reason and that is good enough for me. After reading everyones comments I am totally pumped for my chance to see the boys. Wish I could have won the meet and greet but perhaps I will have the privlage to meet ged at another time.
#173 - Posted 6/19/07 @7:25PM by Bravest Face [contact]

Timintey already has the photos up! Good job!! Just got in a little while ago, drove almost 9 hours today back from Charlotte, long drive, but the trip was well worth it! The guys rocked last night! It's too bad my seat kind of sucked, since I am short, as you can probably tell from the photo, when people stand up I have a difficult time seeing the show, although I would rather people stand during a Rush show and show the band the respect they deserve!!

A few negatives: It was hot as hell!! I took the remaining bit of water I had in my bottle and dumped it on my head at intermission, shit, that felt good :)

Also, there was a group of people, looked like a father and his teenage kids. They sat during almost the whole show and gave very little reaction or emotion. Hell, I've seen more energy out of people in a nursing home!! I think Malnar said it best when I told him about it: "What a waste of tickets" I second that.

I tried to upgrade my ticket but the only better available seats were obstructed view and I was going to take my chance on that. The good news was a guy sitting next me had some binoculars and let me look through them occasionally, so I got some good close up looks at the guys. This was a warm up for me for the Cincinnati show when I have a 12th row seat, that will be a much better view!

Also, what was up with Geddy wearing a Bears shirt?! Come on Ged, don't you know who won? :) Go Colts! I thought Geddy was a baseball fan anyway, he should have gone with a Cubs shirt or something ;)

The new S&A stuff sounded terrific, of course you had your fair share of casual fans who gave little reaction to these songs and the guy next to me said he had only listened to S&A a couple of times. I couldn't believe some people got up to go to the restroom during TMMB! Shit!! They don't know what they missed! TWTWB was absolutely freakin awesome to the core. In my opinion I think they pulled this one of the best, it was flawless!!

Of the older stuff, of course I enjoyed it all, but particularly found Witch Hunt to be really intriguing, the visuals were pretty wicked and really pulled you into it! Of course, for me, Digital Man was an absolute fav and I think they even lengthened it a bit from the album version, not much, but maybe by a minute or so.

Although I had heard about the South Park, Neil and Alex in bed, etc. I had not heard about the opening video to start the 2nd half. Weird!! I do mean weird in a good way!! Very interesting and creative!! A great addition to say the least!

Geddy also brought out a video recorder and filmed the audiience saying that it was still snowing back in Canada and he wanted Candadians to see what good weather was like, this was a joke if he was talking about Toronto obviously, but I am sure some parts of northern Canada it probably still is!! :) Also, I wouldn't exactly call the weather good, unless you enjoy a heat stroke! Geddy joked earlier in the show that as Canadians they were not used to such hot weather up north and that they would sweat along with us!

Overall, very good show. I think Cincy will be better for me because I will have a much better seat and I won't have to travel as far! It was great to meet Timintey, Jbfenderjazz, and Malnar!! Any others from the site, sorry I did not get to meet you as well!

Already counting down the days until Cincy on Sept. 1st, let's see....74 days away I think!

Please don't play Distant Early Warning again!

Already heard this one on the Vapor Trails tour.

Need Between the Wheels, just this once for me (but twice for all the R30 showgoers).

I guess BTW probably isn't working all that well due to recent technical difficulties.

Forgive my testing for echo- things on the web were curious last night. Malignant rhythms of some sort. : )
