We've already seen the cover of the June 2007 issue of DRUM! Magazine fearuting Neil Peart. But now, thanks to Counterparts member tst4eko we have scans of all the pics too. Check them out below.

Excellent! Thanks! Great scans.

As I may have mentioned in previous posts, this is also probably the best article of the three, with Alex in Guitar One, and Geddy in Bass Guitar mag. Not that the other two are bad, but the interview with Neil is more in depth and very well done.

I like the front cover, it looks like a high school graduation photo.
#4 - Posted 5/23/07 @4:11PM by unktehila [contact]

Re #3.... HA! it does. the old yearbook photo. LAME. why the hell don't they throw one of the far superior "action" shots on the cover??? then the cover would be frame/wall worthy.

I was kinda curious to know if the next Modern Drummer with Neil gracing the cover will have the new set!

But, check this pix out of Neil in high school. Gather all of the Rushgirls and see if any 'drool'! (hahaha)

Hey are you here Spin? How ya bin!?! just trying to catch up with everyone/thing. Wife in hospital with a broken ankle requiring pinning/plating.

Thankfully the bike that she fell off is okay and I have Rush S&A to keep me going! :-)

Wait a tick, does that article say that Neil graduated high school? I had always heard that he dropped out.
B...after a very long hiatus...
#8 - Posted 5/23/07 @7:14PM by Aaron [contact]

Bx3, I caught that too, I was thinking the same thing you were.
#9 - Posted 5/23/07 @8:02PM by Malnar [contact]

Dammit, i've got to get to the book store!
#10 - Posted 5/23/07 @8:12PM by Liverpool.78 [contact]

Not many drummers out there then, given how few posts!, or does it take longer to hit the keyboard with drumsticks? :-D

Malnar, yeah I went and bought all three at a Borders on Saturday. They are all worth having if you the funds, but Neil's article is hands down the best.

Now this issue of DRUM! solves the mystery, what is that mysterious china-looking, swish-like, maybe-riveted cymbal on Neil's right side? According to the setup guide in this article, it's a 20" Paragon prototype "Jingle Chinese". That's where the sizzly, jingly China sound heard in "Main Monkey Business", "Far Cry", and elsewhere on the album comes from... makes sense, no?

I third the observation about Neil not quite finishing high school, but haven't you all heard the rumors that he has a PhD or a master's? I'm a professor, and during my first year it got out that I was a Rush fanatic, and the dean of the college asked me about Neil's graduate degrees... Maybe somebody can get him an honorary doctorate?
#14 - Posted 5/23/07 @9:54PM by Aaron [contact]

Lost commercial and I have a tv right next to me!

Pat, I haven't heard anything about any degrees Neil has but he is obviously very intelligent. I realize you are a professor and I feel like I can say this to some degree since I have two bachelors and a masters degree, but the people with the most degrees aren't always the most educated. No offense. Neil is a self taught individual. I have a good friend, in his 70's, who only has a high school diploma, but is one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. I would never tell him that :) but it is true, as such I believe with Neil as well.
#15 - Posted 5/23/07 @10:21PM by Malnar [contact]

Yeah Aaron, i've heard a quote that went something like, PhD's can some of the stupidest people you can meet. No offense to PhD's and not a blanket statement, cause you have to be smart and work hard to get that, but really..
#16 - Posted 5/23/07 @10:26PM by Malnar [contact]

Oops Pat, hope your not a PhD. I said some. You sound smart. I'll get off this thread now.
#17 - Posted 5/23/07 @11:26PM by Aaron [contact]

Malnar, I think it's good that you say some. I have known various PhD's myself. Some that I have almost idolized, thinking them of extreme intelligence, and some I have seriously wondered about if you get my drift. In other words, I think it really depends more on the individual than the degree :)

Re#12... sounds like his Sabian "Jingle Chinese" or whatever is the same thing as Zildjian's Swish Knocker. iT's a beast... 22" with rivets and is LOUD as hell but also sounds dark, endless, and cool as sh*t

Hello, hello, hello...hello

WANTED: Fellow rushisaband.com readers who are musicians and would be interested in participating in an experimental musical project if you will.

In the modern world that we live in, eh, we are not restricted by time and distance when it comes to making musics with others. The digital realm has made it possible to collaborate with fellow musicians whom you have never met, and most likely never will. My idea is basically a musical verison of hot potato.... Send a recorded song, clip, idea..whatever to the person to your left and they will add/expand and send it either back to the original person or on to another collaborater. Eventually a song will form.

For example: A person who plays the drums sends me a 3-min type loop thing or whatever. I will then layer on a guitar track or two and send it to a person who likes to sing. A person who likes to write lyrics can send them to the singing person.... and so on and so forth. This cycle may involve as few as two people or many more depending on interest.

I, myself, play the guitar, a little keyboards and enjoy vocals from time to time. I am not a professional at any of them. Not even close. Thats not really the point. The point is to see what comes out of this mixture. Obviously, we are all Rush fans so it could be expected that the sound would be Rush influenced... But it doesn't have to be either. Whatever goes. Thats kind of the whole point. The final results could be listened to by anybody who is interested. Just shoot an email my way and I'll send you an mp3. Again, this would be just for fun and the sake of curiosity.

To get the ball rolling I will serve as the hub of where to send your clips and lyrics. For those involved, we will wait and see what comes in and start work from there. Obviously the system of how this would work would be a work in progress. My email address is jasonwluth2000@yahoo.com. Send music files in mp3 format please (wave is too huge).

I encourage anyone interested in participating in contacting me and/or sending some clips. I think it will be a lot of fun to see what develops and it is always more fun to work on a project with another person(s).

If we don't have any drummers to work with, we can always use simple drum loops as the foundation. For guitarists and keyboard people, it might be best to record a drum click along with your parts. At least to begin with. We'll just have to see how it goes.

Again my email is jasonwluth2000@yahoo.com

I'll be checking it, so start sending your stuff in!!!

Aaron, you said it well in #17. Think that's more what I meant to say. It was the whiskey talking last night.
#21 - Posted 5/24/07 @11:15AM by Aaron [contact]

Malnar, I was drinking last night too. That explains why I am going into work late today :) I seem to be more lucid for some reason in my posts when I am drinking, now what sense does that make ;0

Anyway, Malnar, I have been there, it's been a while since I have been married for a few years, but I remember that feeling. Try to hang in there and let Rush be your release.
#22 - Posted 5/24/07 @2:46PM by Malnar [contact]

That explains why I decided to leave work at 12:30 today. Tried to Stick It Out but couldn't do it. Taking a mental health holiday this afternoon. Cheers! (i'm drinking grape juicy juice right now as penance).
