Updates and other random Rush stuff

I can safely say that yesterday was probably the most volatile and exhausting day on rushisaband.com since its inception. First, UK music site HMV posts artwork for Snakes & Arrows and causes quite a stir. As all this is happening, the complete track list for the album from the sell sheet surfaces online. Back to the artwork - I originally assume that the artwork is official. Reader John E convinces me otherwise ... then dives into some research of his own - and retracts his original assumption. Then the actual sell sheet surfaces - thus proving the validity of the track listing and album art. Not so fast! say many readers - they think it's a fake sell sheet. However, most of the naysayers -oddly enough - are the ones who dislike the artwork and track names. :) I personally don't think there's any reason to think the sell sheet is fake; other sites seem to agree too - although there's still a lot of doubt being expressed on all the various forums. Then to top it all off ... we find out that Geddy Lee had a cameo (albeit a brief one) on an episode of The Gilmore Girls! What a day. Whatever your opinion on the artwork/tracklisting, I think we can all agree that this is all pretty exciting ... and fun. :)

Ok then ... moving on. Tour dates! We have yet another unconfirmed date to report which you may have already heard about; Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, CT. I also mentioned the June 30th date at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center in Saratoga Springs, NY in a post earlier this week in case you missed it. Here's the summary of all the (technically unconfirmed) dates so far:

Jun. 13 - Nashville, TN @ Starwood Amphitheater (??) see here
Jun. 15 - West Palm Beach, FL @ Sound Advice Amphitheater
Jun. 16 - Tampa, FL @ Ford Amphitheater @ Florida State Fairgrounds
Jun. 18 - Atlanta, GA @ HiFi Buys Amphitheater
Jun. 19 - Charlotte, NC @ Verizon Wireless Amphitheater
Jun. 27 - Mansfield, MA @ Tweeter Center
Jun. 30 - Saratoga Springs, NY @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center
Jul. 02 - Wantaugh, NY @ Jones Beach Amphitheater
Jul. 04 - Darien Lake, NY @ Six Flags
Jul. 07 - Homdel, NJ @ PNC Arts Center
Jul. 09 - Uncasville, CT @ Mohegan Sun Arena

The sell sheet also mentioned a 48-date tour which I'm assuming is just the US/Canada, and we're supposed to get the full schedule this coming Tuesday.

Jazz trio The Bad Plus, which I mentioned in this post a couple weeks ago, will release their new album PROG on May 8th. You can pre-order it here. The album will contain a jazz version of Tom Sawyer.

Reader Stevie S uncovered a couple Rush references in the Jordan Sonnenblick book Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie . The first one is on page 12:

... Just then Brian chimed in (he had dropped a stick during "In the Mood" and may have been annoyed by the big applause after my solo). ...

And the second is one page 22:

... I put on the radio to WZZO, the rock station, and started playig drums on my legs along with the Rush song that was on. ...

Reader Matthew M sent me this link at Jalopnik.com which describes the Bertone Barchetta concept car; the description includes a dipshit 1980s prog-rock reference. :)

Geddy Lee apparently likes to hang out at the Academy Of Spherical Arts in Toronto.

In a recent interview with Dangle, Junior and Trudy from the cast of Reno 911 at Echo Online Rush gets a humorous mention:

In the new film, there seems to be a great deal of sexual tension between members of the Reno sheriff's department. Would you care to elaborate on this?

Dangle: "When you're constantly under the threat of death like we are, every minute we're on earth could be our last. Your hormones are cranked up to a really high state."

Junior: "When you're going into situations where you might be killed at any moment, chopped in the back by a meth head, your brain instinctively is saying 'mate, mate.'"

Dangle: "'... as quickly as you can.' And it must be, because if you look around, we're not all that attractive."

Junior: "Not a good looking bunch."

Trudy: "Mix that with sad, quiet desperation and you've got... "

Dangle: "You've got a recipe for frenching."

Junior: "Recipe for Frenching is playing in town tonight."

Dangle: "Yeah, they're the Rush cover band. Their Geddy Lee guy's very good. Their drummer's no Neil Peart. Are you going to ask right in front of her face what's been going on with me and Trudy? Trudy, if I can speak for Trudy, we have a love-hate relationship. She loves me and I hate her. Trudy was raised in a home... " (turns to Trudy) "Explain how you were raised."
