While I never grow tired of reading about Rush, this interview really had nothing new to offer. Portnoy's interviewing technique seem to be only a "measuring up" type interview. It seems though if Neil had the chance to interview a influence on him, he would totally imerse himself in that person and not try to compare himself

Now if Mike Portnoy only read as many books as The Professor. Maybe Dream Theater's lyrics would get better.
Not a put down to MP or NP. But, the interview seems like it was re-releasing everything that we already knew with nothing new. When I first heard that MP was doing the interview, I thought that it'd be cool and maybe MP had a list of fresh questions which would sum it up with new answers. Oh well!
I do have to say that b4 I found this site (Rush is a band) I relied on getting my Rush fix from Power Windows. And with no put down to Power Windows as it's awesome for the layout, pixs and the rest of the site. But, Ed... You kick ass with all of the up to date info. Keep up the good work man!
I agree with the people here. NP just rehashed all his tired old anecdotes and sayings in this intereview. It almost just sounded like advertising for his products, which to me is cheesy. I'm looking forward to the album for sure, but reading about it is becoming tiresome.
I wouldnt say that it's gotten to be tiresome. I think that MP should have gone in there with a list of better questions. NP just gave the same rough out with explaining it a little diffrently. But, after re-reading it again. a little news is better than no news at all.
It doesnt take a genius to be a die hard fan and still do an awesome interview.
Theres nothing cheesy about NP pushing his product. If he werent pushing it, would we be grabbing it? After everything the guy has been through, I'm happy enough to be able to enjoy buying anything that comes from him and enjoy it that I always look forward to the next one.

Maybe I'm too much of a DT/MP fanboy, but I'm not sure what everyone was expecting here.
I'm glad Mike asked about Rush abandoning the longer material, and while NP makes the same points that the others in Rush have probably made time and again, I do think Rush sometimes is a little too insulated when it comes to what us fans want (though I know from far to many interviews that Rush writes for themselves), and if they're going to revisit their stripped-down format from time to time, then why not keep the door open to an 8 to 15-minute track if it works?
When I first read about the idea of Portnoy interviewing different drummers I was excited and anxious to read the final product...but now, not so much. It was a very generic and ametuerish interview. I wish the magazine would have helped out with some one the questions and guided Portnoy a little. Hopefully he will get better as he goes along with the next few interviews.

One thing I was kind of hoping Neil would mention was his work with Vertical Horizon. Even though it's been a while since he did his work with them, and sort of old news, it would still be nice to hear what the progress is on that album. Does anybody know when any of the songs that Neil worked on will be released?

The real problem with this interview is it was conducted the first week of November. That is two and a half months ago. With the rate Ed gets us updated information, two and a half months might as well be two years. We have all seen it at least once or twice here within that amount of time. Keep it coming Ed!!!

Thanks Ed.
Never did the sharing of one article cause so much contraversy!
;-)
Seriously though - thanks!!
