To me from rush in Rio up to this bluray it seems they are using the unprocessed sound of Neil's kit or in other words the natural sound of his drums one of the things I've noticed is in going back and listening to the older concert dvds is how much more defined it sounds one example is when he hits the floor toms and especially his gong drum there is lower end or bottom end to the sound the recent concert blurays and dvds are flat not defined and I think that's why his drum sound gets lost in the mix. This is just an observation from me

After reading the posts here I am depressed and will be burning all my Rush stuff post 1985. Also canceling all holidays from here on out. Alcoholism seems like good life choice at this point.

Alex (Rush),

Do you read the reviews of the many audiophiles (people who are listening on serious high end systems and know what they are talking about) who are en masse agreeing that the 5.1 mix for the CA tour release is simply abysmal? What are your thoughts? Does a conversation need to occur with Mike Fraser, Rich Chycki, and Alan Weinrib regarding how completely they dropped the ball on this one? Do you think there is now an identifiable theme with Rush and horrible audio production? Is there indeed fire from whence the smoke of these horrible reviews originates?

Some other things that should have been asked:

1. Do you and your "bank" mates review for quality before commercially releasing what is now very arguably viewed as one of the worst sounding blu ray concerts ever? Do you feel that "care was taken" on the CA 5.1 mix?

Nice interview! I just finished watching the concert film last night, for my second time and I'm just blown away by it. In ways, it's a setlist that shouldn't work....but it works amazingly well! The playing by the band is just phenomenal and I really think they got the sound mix right, compared to the Time Machine Live album. And I may never want to hear Dreamline again without the strings! One last thing, I just have to say that I think Geddy sounds great. There's no doubt that his vocals are different from what they were 10 or 30 years ago, but I really appreciate what he is doing now.

Great stuff, I wouldn't want to put the setlist together if I were them. Man, the folks are always harsh on that aspect.
