Updates and other random Rush stuff

It's been another big week of Rush news. Earlier this week the surprising rumor came out that Rush is seriously considering touring in 2009, probably as some kind of R:35 tour. Not only that, but the band is also mulling the idea of releasing some non-album connected songs online and/or as digital EPs in lieu of a new studio album. Whether this will actually come to fruition or not we'll all just have to wait and see, but it's given us all food for speculation if nothing else. We also learned yesterday the tracklist for the upcoming Rush: Retrospective 3 Atlantic-era greatest hits package. And although it doesn't look like there will be any unreleased live material there will be one live unreleased track - namely Ghost of a Chance - as was previously rumored. The package will include remastered versions of One Little Victory and Earthshine as well as a DVD of the Atlantic-era videos. In light of this, for my next poll I thought I'd ask everyone what their favorite song from the Retrospective 3 tracklist is. Take the poll and let us know.

In my last poll I asked everyone what VH1 Classic's Rush Hashanah special could have used more of. The winners in a virtual 3-way tie were Snakes & Arrows DVD footage, documentaries, and older concert footage - each receiving about 20% of the vote. Next up with 16% was interviews and music videos got 9%. Cowbell and Harry Satchel received about 7% each.

The CBC's Hockey Night in Canada is running a contest to determine a new Hockey Night in Canada Anthem. Alex Lifeson added a guitar track to one of the five finalist's anthems - Anthem #3 by elementary school music teacher Grahm McRae titled Eleventh Hour. The 5 finalists were whittled down to 2 last night and unfortunately Anthem #3 did not make the cut. The winner will be announced tomorrow.

Thanks to Michael of NeilPeartDrumsticks.com on Monday we got our first look at Neil Peart's kit for the upcoming Buddy Rich Memorial Concert. The concert happens next Saturday and will be streamed live on the DRUM Channel.

And on Tuesday we got a look at the guy in charge of the $700 billion bailout of the US financial system, who happens to be a Rush fan.

Earlier today we learned that New York based DJ Eddie Trunk will be co-hosting a new show on VH1 Classic called That Metal Show which premiers November 15th. He just announced yesterday via his blog that 2 of featured guests this season will be Alex Lifeson and Geddy Lee.

A team of St. Catherine, Ontario artists recently unveiled a project where they created a series of double-sided banners featuring famous St. Cathariners and hung them up at various locations downtown. One of these banners is our favorite St. Catheriner, Neil Peart. You can check out a picture of Neil's banner, which is hanging outside police headquarters, at this link. Thanks to robertkincaid96 for the heads up.

In this week's issue of Entertainment Weekly (Paul Newman on the cover), the editors on the Letters page asked readers who should be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It reads:

Rock & roll will never die...as long as there's a place in Cleveland designed to celebrate its existence. This year's crop of potential ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME inductees was recently announced. PopWatchers question the whereabouts of...

And then they list 4 artists with a picture and blurb including Rush. For the Rush blurb a reader named Karl writes:

Rush. They've had the same lineup for more than 30 years and continue to make great music on their own terms.

They also have a small picture of Alex and Geddy with their double-neck guitars. You can check out a scan of the article at this link (thanks Jim C). Thanks to Kelly D for the heads up.

And I leave you this week with a video of Incubus drummer Jose Pasillas playing Red Barchetta at a soundcheck (thanks rushfr:CP):

Have a great weekend!
