Instrumental prog-rock band 4Front to include Rush tribute on new album Malice in Wonderland
Instrumental progressive rock band 4Front will be releasing their third album Malice in Wonderland on March 1st. 4Front's drummer is Hudson Music's senior drum editor Joe Bergamini. Bergamini co-produced and conducted the interviews on Neil Peart's Taking Center Stage: A Lifetime of Live Performance instructional DVD. The band is heavily influenced by Rush and other progressive rock acts and the new album includes a tribute track to Rush titled Many Places in a Rush. Rush album artist Hugh Syme also did the cover art for Malice in Wonderland. You can pre-order the album at Bergamini's website here, and it will also eventually be made available for digital download via iTunes, Amazon and other outlets. You can follow 4Front on Facebook here and watch this video of the band performing Blur from their 1998 album Gravity. Thanks to John at Cygnus-X1.net for the heads up.

Wow, really good.
I am hearing a keyboard part that's a bit like Tempus Fugit from Yes.
***SUPER BOWL CHAMPS***
just had to get that off my chest. Carry on folks :)
#6 - I had the same thought! Sounded immediately to me like a combination of "Like malice through the looking glass" and "A Lerxst in Wonderlande" (La Villa segment).
I love how the band is also playing on the number 4 like Rush do with the number 3. The clock on the Hugh Syme cover is at 4 o'clock.
"Big Scary Monsters" sounds heavily Rush-influenced and could also be referencing the "Monsters!" segment of La Villa that follows "A Lerxst in Wonderland."
All very cool.
#9 - this sounds good as well. thanks
A low res version of the opening track from Malice in Wonderland: link
Also, the Rush tribute track is not a cover, just Rush influenced.
Peace out.
"Instrumental progressive rock band" I'd argue it sounds more like jazz-fusion. At least this sound clip does. Good stuff, but a far cry from Mahavishnu O. I remain skeptical about the idea of a rush cover, but I'll try to be open minded. I hope it's a clever reinterpretation rather than a note for note cover.
Wow, Bergamini jams, stuff sounds great.
Just got Taking Center Stages and BUMMER ALERT: The audio in a few of the segments is screwed up. Disc 3, in particular, The Trees, all screwed up, as well as Disc 1, an interview segment. Wtf? First I thought, maybe Neil has come up with some crazy ass new beat, but no, it's a product defect. Got it through Amazon. Anyone else experience the same with Taking Center Stage? will be returning, but i hate to live without it for a few weeks. (Guess I'll live.)
I wonder if the album's title isn't a bit of a nod to Mr Peart's line from 'Ceiling Unlimited' -
"...like Malice through the looking glass."
#2 - A bit of the Dixie Dregs in there, too, but maybe it's just me.
Good stuff. Very interested to hear Many Places in a Rush.
Happy Birthday, Ed. Hope you're having an excellent day.
When I read "tribute to Rush" I thought--another lame cover. Glad to see it's an original composition with Rush in mind.
I generally don't like "bands influenced by Rush" but this is good. I'll have to look deeper at their music and maybe get the new one when it arrives.
