Foo Fighters discuss Rush influence on new single Rope

Mon, Mar 21, 2011@11:33AM | comments removed/disabled

The new Foo Fighters single Rope has been garnering a few comparisons to Rush since even before its release back on March 1st. Back in early February Alan Cross of ExploreMusic.com described the track as follows:

... So what does it sound like? In a word, Rush. The interplay between guitars, bass and drums could be an instrumental bit from A Farewell to Kings or bits of "La Villa Strangiato" from Hemispheres, complete with multi-park drum breaks and quick shifts in time signature. (YFI: Taylor Hawkins is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGGGGGEEEE Rush fan. Dave is, too.) ...

In my Friday updates post a couple of weeks ago I had mentioned how Neil Peart's name had come up a couple of times in a recent Foo Fighters interview with MTV debuting the video for the song. Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins joked about the drum pattern in the chorus of the song saying he had thrown a Neil Peart lick in and then went on to say:

I owe Neil Peart a lot of money for the chorus of Rope. I'm splitting my royalties on that song with Neil Peart.

The video from this portion of the interview was just recently posted online to the MTV website. You can check it out below or at this link (thanks Power Windows):
