Coheed and Cambria bass player doesn't mind the Rush comparison

[Music Preview: Popular prog-rock band tells a sci-fi saga]

Coheed and Cambria is a modern prog-rock band from New York named after the two characters in singer Claudio Sanchez's The Bag On Line Adventures comic book series. The band's first three records tell parts 2, 3 and 4 (Volume 1) of this sci-fi saga. Part 4 (Volume 2) and part 1 (a prelude) will be told in later albums it is assumed. Seldom do you read an article or review about Coheed and Cambria and not see a comparison to Rush and/or Geddy Lee. This article from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette containing an interview with bass player Michael Todd is no exception. From the article:

... Coheed and Cambria launched in 2001 as an expanded version of a pop-metal trio called Shabutie, which formed in 1995. With 2002's "The Second Stage Turbine Blade," the band introduced the world to a progressive emo-core sound that drew comparisons to Rush, particularly because of Sanchez's high-pitched wail.

Todd says the band never blanched at the comparisons to Rush and other prog-rock bands like Yes and King Crimson.

"I think it makes sense because it's outside the standard of rock 'n' roll today. Anything that departs from the three-minute song is progressive in itself. It seems like it's an all-encompassing description -- progressive -- so I think it's appropriate." ...
